4541  Economy / Securities / Re: Selling 17500 shares of GLBSE (actual shares) on: October 05, 2012, 05:38:41 PM
How have you guys not seen this as a potential major problem?

Having access to the database doesn't necessarily mean you'd be able to migrate stocks if GLBSE becomes legally restrained from doing business, but it's critical that someone other than Nefario be able to access the database in the event of a catastrophe and it's worrying that you guys don't seem to have planned for that possibility.  Have any of you taken legal advice regarding your own liability in respect of GLBSE?

GLBSE can continue if Nefario is just hit by a bus or something. The secret-sharing-protected data includes passwords for the server.

I believe that BitcoinGlobal is legally a non-entity and each individual is liable only for his own actions. No one signed the bylaws or any partnership contract.

theymos, any updates from the shareholder meeting?

Hasn't happened yet.
4542  Economy / Securities / Re: Selling 17500 shares of GLBSE (actual shares) on: October 05, 2012, 03:17:24 PM
Important question:

Do you or any of the other shareholders have access to any of the backups of GLBSE's database?
In the event it gets shut down (by law enforcement or by anything else) we need some way to ensure that stocks can be migrated...

The shareholders can work together (using Shamir's secret sharing) to access GLBSE's wallet, but I don't know if we have access to database backups. I never downloaded any database backups. And Nefario could disable all of this if ordered to do so by a court.
4543  Other / Meta / Re: Dealing with Signature spam ? (Here's my today's irrevelant post) on: October 05, 2012, 02:35:23 PM
It's a standard CSS2 property, and http://www.w3schools.com/cssref/pr_dim_max-height.asp claims that it's supported in all the major browsers (though not in IE6 or earlier). If it's not supported, the only side-effect is that you see the entire signature instead of just the top 30pt.

This seems to work well. I added it. I used 42px instead of 30pt -- the same height limit as ads. Thanks!
4544  Economy / Securities / Re: Selling 17500 shares of GLBSE (actual shares) on: October 05, 2012, 02:27:48 PM
As a major stockholder can you at least tell us that you do know what is going on (Nefario has told you exactly what is going on)?

Not asking you to divulge what is going on, just to tell us you do know what it is.

I don't know what's going on. There is a shareholder meeting later today, and Nefario had better have a damn good excuse for doing this and keeping shareholders in the dark or he's unlikely to be CEO any longer.
4545  Other / Meta / Re: While I was sleeping they deleted "The beginning of the end" topic... on: October 05, 2012, 02:25:16 PM
I remember that one thread I was discussing in was deleted and I had found it offensive. I have no copies of the text I've posted in that thread, and I spent hours in total writing all that.

I can give you copies. Posts are almost never permanently deleted. (I still have deleted posts from 2010.)

Threads shouldn't be deleted on the grounds of them being off-topic or dumb. If you don't want them to be bumped, lock and move them to off-topic.

That creates too much clutter, and it isn't convenient for moderators. Moving a post is currently much more difficult than deleting it, and even if that was fixed moderators would still have to think about whether each post should be deleted (because it's automatic spam, etc.) or removed-but-archived.

Considering bids under 0.3 now?

Yes.
4547  Other / Meta / Re: Rand-om musings. on: October 05, 2012, 12:46:00 PM
Yeah, that's too many. Please limit yourself to one or two per day, Atlas.
4548  Other / Meta / Re: Dealing with Signature spam ? (Here's my today's irrevelant post) on: October 05, 2012, 02:54:52 AM
Why bother parsing the signature markup when you can just put this in the CSS?

Is that widely-supported?
4549  Other / Meta / Unanswered PMs to theymos on: October 05, 2012, 02:45:19 AM
The forum's PM system isn't perfect, so I occasionally miss/lose PMs, especially if the PM is about something more complicated than average and I put it on my to-do list (i.e. I keep the PM open in a tab and if my browser crashes I probably lose it). I received ~500 PMs in September, and I think I lost some of them. If you sent me a PM and I didn't respond after a week or so, send it again. You can also email me.
4550  Other / Meta / Re: Dealing with Signature spam ? (Here's my today's irrevelant post) on: October 05, 2012, 01:56:04 AM
So instead of outright banning the behavior you think it would be wise to put some rules into effect to at least minimize the influence of what are viewed as bad decisions. Why not let people make impossibly huge signatures and encourage people to carefully weigh ignoring people who take it 'too far'. It might be good for the forums too, if you know what I mean. (financially). Heck, I bet BFL would support any such move... and they wouldn't be alone!

Really, what innovation lies in a sig waiting to be let free without the shackles of size restriction?

That might be OK if there was a web-of-trust rating/ignore system in place, but as things are now it's too much work to ignore people with annoying signatures.
4551  Other / Meta / Re: 'Good post' - feature on: October 05, 2012, 01:51:11 AM
That'd be OK, though it's not a high priority.

One of the optional features in the specification for new forum software is a "thanks" button which could be used like that.
4552  Other / Meta / Re: signature filters on: October 05, 2012, 01:27:12 AM
That is one of the most convoluted areas of SMF ever to add stuff too.. I offer to help you get that text field in AND make it filter sigs.

The filtering part is easy, but I would appreciate it if you could write a little guide on how to add new profile settings. Thanks.

I'll need to figure out how to prevent users from writing really complex regex patterns that take forever to run. Maybe support basic regex only.
4553  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Thai Baht (฿) has always been the most frequently used Bitcoin symbol right? on: October 05, 2012, 12:14:34 AM
Is the "TC" supposed to actually be invisible? I see it as "B⃦TC"

Sounds like your browser is ignoring parts of my webfont, likely in violation of standards. Smiley

Anyone know how to fix this?
4554  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Thai Baht (฿) has always been the most frequently used Bitcoin symbol right? on: October 04, 2012, 07:35:02 PM
This is a bad idea, because the browser isn't guaranteed to copy the invisible TC.

Are you sure? The characters are "visible", but the font defines them to have zero width.

4557  Economy / Securities / Re: GLBSE is offline We will update our users on Saturday. on: October 04, 2012, 04:42:58 PM
Who controls the funds that were transferred to GLBSE? Nefario alone? (I genuinely don't know how GLBSE works.)

I have some of it, though Nefario has most of it.

Oh, I have the measurements taken care of. I was just wondering if I could do this.

Yeah, that's fine.

Yes. Test your ad carefully. I don't have time to fix ads or send them back to you so you can fix them.
