461  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: July 05, 2013, 01:06:47 AM
The client I'm currently using for DVC is the 0.3.24-beta version.  I'm thinking I'd like to change to the client found here (https://www.box.com/s/crfmuuhe0f32w5g4nt4i) but haven't downloaded it yet.  If I download the next client and try it out, will the old one still run just fine?  Can I have two DVC clients running on the same computer?

It should.  This will probably change in a future build, but for now they are interoperable as long as you do not encrypt the wallet file.

I am curious.  It seems you joined the forum a month and a half after the new version came out.  Yet you still choose to download the older version.  I have gotten a few support pms and every single time it has turned out they downloaded the old version, and an update fixes their issues.  Why did you choose the old version still?
462  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: July 03, 2013, 07:55:24 PM
Yes, the clients read directly from the receiver files.

NOW I understand why we need to use an address from an actual client (as opposed to something web-based)!

They are unrelated.  The reason web based wallets do not work is they are not set up to handle generated coins.  This proves true for all the coin chains, not just devcoin with it's receiver files.

463  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: is this really the official place to download devcoin wallet on: July 02, 2013, 01:35:32 PM
You should get the newer build if you want devcoin branding.

Well waddya know! They managed to get the word "Devcoin" at the top of the window.

And what's this? The experimental build even replaces all the instances of "Bitcoin" in the tray icons hover and right click dialogues!

These are some incredible advancements to the bitcoin cloning process, I can't wait 'till we figure out how to replace the logo!  Grin

Hmmm... logo is replaced for me.

Guys, how do I start my own thread?  I don't want to post off topic stuff on here but I also can't find a thread for what I wanna post but I can't seem to be able to start my own thread.

So how do I start my own thread?  And please don't tell me I don't have enough coins under my name cause I had a Sr level account with nearly 400 posts but now with the new rules I got knocked Down to a lower level and everytime I post it still says 70 posts.  I really don't like this new system.  Looks like I have to find a Mickey thread and just troll it out with mindless 3 word posts.

When you are at the level that lists all the threads, look for a link to 'new topic'.

Quote
I understand the need to keep trolls out but I should be getting credit for my few daily posts and I've been stuck at 70 posts (exactly) for 4 days now and I've been posting a few posts everyday.  I think this new system needs some tweaking.

Thanks in advance!

You are misunderstanding the system.  The 70 is not your number of posts, but a level that is based on a combination of post count and posting activities sliced into two week periods. This was done, just so your idea of finding a thread to make mindless posts into would not help boost your rank more quickly.
465  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: is this really the official place to download devcoin wallet on: July 02, 2013, 12:55:40 AM
That's the right place last i checked.

There's a few receivers missing (18-24) that you can grab from here: http://www.darkgamex.ch/devcoin/

It looks like crap, still bitcoin branded everywhere, and virus scanners hate it (pretty sure it's actually clean though), but it's the only qt wallet for windows. Hopefully a new one will be available once markm finishes mergecoin.

You should get the newer build if you want devcoin branding.

As for the virus scanners, the client still has mining code in it, and some virus scanners seem to trigger on that for anything they did not whitelist.
466  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: is this really the official place to download devcoin wallet on: July 02, 2013, 12:52:47 AM
The is an official build, but it is the old build.  I have no idea why, but they just added links to the newer builds instead of ever cleaning out the links to the old build, which leads to lots of people continuing to download the old build instead of the newer one.

http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=devcoin  ,you would be better off with one of the
first three links for the windows build, and not the windows bundle that for some reason is still linked.

468  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Devcoin QT Wallet For Windows Users Discussion Thread on: June 30, 2013, 02:26:12 PM
hi everyone. sorry for reviving this thread, but ive run into a problem with my wallet.  I cant seem to get it to connect. I have turned off firewall, downloaded recievers, etc.  Huh So, to try to avoid the hassle all together, can i use a cryptsy.com address for the writer submissions? It would make my life a whole lot easier. Cheesy

Thanks.  Cool

Probably not, but you could ask cryptsy.  For the most part, exchange addresses do not support getting generated coins.

What program did you download and from where?

469  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] peatio.com the world's first 100 percent public owned bitcoin exchange on: June 30, 2013, 08:28:34 AM
So, it's 100% publicly owned ?
Because the shareholder own it ?
So how is it any different than any other exchange owned by its shareholders ?

Are there any existing bitcoin exchanges which have issued shares? I'm not aware of any myself, but please let me know if there are.

I know of two off hand.

Vircurex ( https://cryptostocks.com/securities/34 ) and Crypto-Trade ( https://btct.co/security/CRYPTO-TRADE ).   A little surprised you did not find them doing your market/competitor analysis, especially Vircurex as it has been around for awhile.
470  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Free State Project - Western States on: June 28, 2013, 04:53:09 AM
Didn't the fsp research a bunch of states then vote on them?  Maybe it would make sense to find that research and results as a starting point?  On the other hand,   it may be too early to dilute their effort.
471  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] [DVC] ASCMDVCPT Cryptostock Investment on: June 27, 2013, 10:53:58 PM
When/how/where? To buy a share?

Vircurex.  I just want to point out that DVC has been falling.  Wink

472  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: June 25, 2013, 12:36:18 PM
ASCMDVCPT shares for a more reasonable price. Without competitive share prices, people are just going to sell their DVC for BTC and invest in ASICMINER directly. Perhaps someone could offer a service that acts sort of like ASCMDVCPT, but with the price fixed to the TAT.ASICMINER value?

There are a couple of things that could make the price higher.  More people able to buy in at 1/1000 of a share, so you pay a bit of a premium  for the extra divisibility.    It also has a 1% fee vs 5% for TAT, so you potentially get more of a return over the long run, even with the current  0.2% currency conversion fees.

Quote
One other solution I considered was to make some sort of service allowing people to buy things directly with DVC - think BitPay or Gyft but with DVC instead. This way people wouldn't be in such a hurry to sell off their DVC for fiat. Although of course the problem here is the service would still be forced to somehow exchange the DVC for fiat in order to actually purchase the goods for their customers.

Thoughts?

Better for adding value to the currency may be a bitmit in dvc?  Then people may not even convert to fiat but stay in dvc to later buy something they want.

473  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Running NTP on: June 18, 2013, 10:17:17 PM

It has long been considered a best practice for networked machines to have good time.
A lot of effort has been put into this area.   One of the results of this has been the Network Time Protocol, and freely available software to implement it.   I have always thought that every networked computer capable of running ntp should.  I think good timekeeping and ECC memory are both surprisingly under demanded.

In the *coin world, it would allow for the timestamp tolerances to be tightened up, and be made more accurate.  They would no longer need to be allowed to slide backwards.  Some coins, such as i0coin, have put an ntpdate like implementation into themselves.  This is a band-aid fix compared to what running a proper ntpd can do, and it costs more resources to run.   It also is not scalable,  every running *coin or time sensitive program should not be adding to the load on the time servers.

So I am curious,  do you run ntp? If not, why not? Would you run ntp if a new chain required it, assuming that you would have run it if it did not?  If not, why not?
474  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Devcoin on: June 12, 2013, 06:05:24 PM
Have you guys tried asking BTC-e to start trading DVC yet? It would help ALTcointip bot to start showing DVC USD/EURO/RUR values next to DVC tips.

It is somewhere in this thread, but not sure how to easily find it, so a recap.

They did add trading in DVC,  they limited the number of decimal places prices could be set to.  This did not work with DVC as the price would have had to have been far above the the price on vircurex at the time. This did not work too well of course.  Rather then fix this, they then removed DVC as an option due to it having no trading volume.

I suggest  doing what http://dvcticker.appspot.com/ does  and using vircurex for dvc prices.

476  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New Ixcoin fork -> I0coin on: June 05, 2013, 06:55:11 AM
according to valgrind every CheckBlock creates 1+ leak, no matter if you mined it or someone else. ive only saw this so far in i0coin
using the basic tools for debugging before assumptions is a good idea Tongue

I did not see that yet. Maybe running out of ram screwed up my valgrind results?  Though I don't even see anything in CheckBlock, in the version I have, that allocates memory off hand.    What assumptions are being made?    CheckBlock also is called regardless of mm being on or not,  it would not explain the rapid growth in memory usage once the mm blocks are hit would it?  Hopefully I can get a new computer soon and actually run i0coin again to get better data.

BTW, could you add block size to the information shown on your blockexporer?

If we could find some suitable nodes to bake in, we could release new binaries with working seed nodes.

IF so make it! Free is a hard to beat price.

I'm fairly sure coinhunter runs the mcxnow exchange

No that would be Realsolid.

Coinhunter has made it clear that him and Realsolid are not the same person.  Cheesy

Coinhunter will be back! So will ArtForz and Lolcust.

~BCX~

you are right, but I did not think too many people knew it as of yet.  I guess I better get to work on that code for Lolcust, but I just can't get motivated, especially being out of disk space lately.
