Freicoin is not sitting so pretty at the moment. There is only one buy order in LTC over at the Freicoin exchange. https://cryptonit.net/exchange/2/6Two things that have kept Freicoin down is the difficulty and distribution of coins. I get the feeling that the core group behind FRC were not alt-coin miners. Otherwise the key feature of most alt-coins, being that the difficulty is adjusted more regularly, would surely have been incorporated. The 80% distribution of Freicoins by the foundation is always going to freak out the markets. At any point the foundation can release a large number of coins to someone legitimately which could be used in a dump. Regardless of the opportunities this could present to traders this is more likely to scare away investors. I know the 80% foundation coins may have seemed big and clever to the developers, but the rest of the world does not like it. How long can you say that you are right and everyone else is wrong.

I do not understand why anyone would shut down their rigs when mining Litecoin to dump for Bitcoin yields more. We are not going to see a Litecoin ASIC for a while yet.

Wow. I guess Icebreaker just came on here to troll or to put incorrect information into the public domain. Whatever he is up to he clearly has his own personal agenda in mind.

I'm guessing that the OP has just stumbled onto NVC and is asking us to fill in some blanks. If he knew the history of NVC I'm very sure he would not have made that post.
I'm more interested in the future than the past. Novacoin beating Litecoin to BTC0.01 last night bodes well for the new altcoin. But they are not like for like. You cannot compare them in this way. It is easier to mine Litecoins than it is Novacoin so you would naturally expect Litecoin to be worth less than Novacoin. Regardless of that fact Litecoin has been seen higher than Novacoin in recent days.

Normally when I start getting lower hash rates it is due to heat. These cards do not make it six months without an air dusting. Get an air duster, take the cards out and make sure that the heat sink is free from dust. One of my mining rigs went from 1200Kh last week to 900Kh because one of the cards was hitting 85C. With an air dust and increased fan speed they are running full speed again at 77C.
For a 7970 I have the following set which is not much different from your setup.
"scrypt" : true, "kernel" : "scrypt", "kernel-path" : "/usr/local/bin", "intensity" : "13", "vectors" : "1", "worksize" : "256", "shaders" : "2048", "gpu-threads" : "1", "thread-concurrency" : "8192", "lookup-gap" : "2", "queue" : "3"
With this I get 550Kh stock and 600Kh at 1125/1650 GPU/RAM.

Didn't Pooler stop registrations so that the pool did not run over 51% of the total network?
This should no longer be the concern that it was so perhaps Pooler will grow the user base on his pool.

Worry about LTC ASICs when LTC FPGAs appear.
|
|
|
If it is a DDOS again it is probably due to the high price of LTC than continued NVC support. NVC came crashing down at the same time that Khaos changed his Khore pool to payout at 120 confirmations rather than 520.
Then again last time this happened because of LTC, litecoinpool was DDOS attacked as well so maybe it is something else.
Could you explain the bolded text It happened before when the BTC block reward halved. The LTC hashrate and price went up as miners moved over from BTC. Then litecoinpool and BTC-e was hit by a week long DDOS after which the extra interest that LTC had gained was lost and some more. It will not be surprising if this happens again, with the rise of ASICs, sending BTC miners venturing away from BTC to other potentially greener pastures like LTC.

I often lament the fact that this forum is not moderated more to keep junk like this off of here.
Someone could be naive enough to let this person access their desktop remotely.

Just talk about homosexuals as all Christians I have come across think this is an abomination for some reason. I like to put it like this. Do you think that Jesus, in amongst all his preachings of man being equal and treating other like you want to be treated yourself said, "Oh and by the way, stone all the gays". That seems like an unlikely thing for the Jesus we imagine to say and would indeed seem an ugly thing to have come from his mouth.
The old testament said the following which is what most Christians cite when hating on gays.
Leviticus 20:13 If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them
Leviticus also said the following. Use at your leisure to ridicule the above 20:13.
Don't let cattle graze with other kinds of Cattle (Leviticus 19:19) Don't have a variety of crops on the same field. (Leviticus 19:19) Don't wear clothes made of more than one fabric (Leviticus 19:19) Don't cut your hair nor shave. (Leviticus 19:27) Any person who curseth his mother or father, must be killed. (Leviticus 20:9) If a man cheats on his wife, or vise versa, both the man and the woman must die. (Leviticus 20:10) If a man sleeps with his father's wife... both him and his father's wife is to be put to death. (Leviticus 20:11) If a man sleeps with his wife and her mother they are all to be burnt to death. (Leviticus 20:14) If a man or woman has sex with an animal, both human and animal must be killed. (Leviticus 20:15-16) If a man has sex with a woman on her period, they are both to be "cut off from their people" (Leviticus 20:18) Psychics, wizards, and so on are to be stoned to death. (Leviticus 20:27) If a priest's daughter is a whore, she is to be burnt at the stake. (Leviticus 21:9) People who have flat noses, or is blind or lame, cannot go to an altar of God (Leviticus 21:17-18) Anyone who curses or blasphemes God, should be stoned to death by the community. (Leviticus 24:14-16) Don't let cattle graze with other kinds of Cattle (Leviticus 19:19)

Are you planning to update Novacoin to include the changes to PPCoin 0.3?

These attacks are only keeping the coin value higher as miners are not able to get NVC to dump. Looks like any GPU miners coming over from BTC right now will easily make the choice to mine NVC to dump for LTC.
Right now it looks like Balthazar has played his cards just right. NVC may well end up being the silver to BTC gold.

Wouldn't be surprised if a Russian millionaire is behind the pump n dump of nvc. While I think we might need a new major ltc-exchange and it's possible for btc-e to lose a large base of its ltc-traders, I am a bit shocked at how opportunistic some ltc-miners are. Will they will jump on the next train, no matter the destination?
It would make sense for LTC miners to move over to NVC just to trade for about 4-5x the amount of LTC they would normally get. LTC users buying into NVC would be a bit strange! Crazy Rabbit, I assume you mean GPU only

I presume the Novacoin attacks intend to suppress the coin until people move away to something else. This is perhaps having the opposite effect as since the price has been pushed very high probably by an artificial pump, the miners are generally unable to mine the coins that would have otherwise pushed the price back down.
BTC-e took a risk on Novacoin. They released the coin on their site which has a large Litecoin user base. They must have anticipated a backlash but decided that it out weighs the benefit of launching a GPU only coin at a time when ASICs are coming online. Now anyone coming over from Bitcoin mining will look at the price of Litecoin and Novacoin and decide to go Novacoin. A lot of these people do not even need the pools as they have enough hashing power to go solo. As the miners coming over from BTC will be looking trade any altcoins back to BTC they will not care about the history of coins but just see what is best for day trading at that current time.
If the attacks stop we can get back to dumping Novacoin and hopefully win the battle against how ever much money there is behind the pump.

The block reward for LTC is 50 and the block reward for NVC is 16 and going down slowly so they do not yield the same amount of coins.
Mining NVC with 40% of the coins than I would get with LTC and 506% more value I end up with 202% more BTC from mining NVC than with LTC.
If you want to mine LTC then it is still best to mine NVC, dump for BTC and buy twice the amount of LTC that you could have mined.
