4741  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which Is The Best Cryptocurrency To Buy Presently? on: September 08, 2021, 09:44:43 AM
First, I agree with the previous opinions that you should inform yourself better before investing, otherwise you are playing roulette.

Between Bitcoin or Ethereum, I clearly choose Bitcoin, because it is decentralized and because it was not premined by 70%. If you study the difference between Bitcoin and what we call shitcoins you will see that although there are 11,753 cryptocurrencies, there are 11,752 that share many characteristics and one that is essentially different from the rest, which is Bitcoin.

I hope that someday you will come to understand the difference.
4742  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Will crypto exchanges like Crypto.com automatically report tax information? on: September 08, 2021, 08:16:37 AM
If you are referring to whether the information will appear in the draft of the income tax return, I would say no in most cases. Coinbase reports to the IRS, but in other cases, like Bitstamp, simply reports gross proceeds to the authorities, and I understand that they only provide more information if the authorities request it.

You have to think that there are people from all over the world who make transactions on the exchanges. It is not like a bank in a country that automatically reports X type of transactions to the tax authorities of that country. At least in the vast majority of cases you will have to declare it yourself.
4743  Economy / Economics / Re: Visa reportedly aims to integrate Bitcoin payments in Brazil on: September 08, 2021, 07:27:18 AM
-snip

I saw the news yesterday and I really thought it was great. What makes me wonder about this is the tax issue. I don't know the fiscal regulation in Brazil, but if this becomes generalized, it will be a hassle to declare each payment for capital gains tax, or hopefully there will be programs that do it automatically, but if so, the countries' treasuries will also have to develop programs that check automatically, I don't see treasury officials checking thousands and thousands of transactions between $0.50 and $100.

While the right wing does the opposite by supporting and embracing bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. As seen by florida, texas and now brazil. All of which are heavily attacked by left wing media for various reasons.

That could be one of the most important emerging trends as far as cryptocurrencies go in 2021.

Theoretically, political right-wingers should have an economic conception in the style of the Austrian School, which advocated the gold standard, and today it would be the Bitcoin. I am not surprised by what you say then. The thing is that in recent decades, some political right-wingers have also taken a liking to massively print fiat money.

If the trend you say consolidates, in the end we are going to see Bitcoin being accused of being sexist, racist, oppressive, etc. Lol.
4744  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Holding KYC Bitcoin and non-KYC Bitcoin on: September 08, 2021, 05:57:14 AM
As always with these sort of threads, if privacy is not too strong a concern, it could be easier for someone to give a better answer if you mentioned your friend's tax residence, different countries have different law and realities, etc. Your friend may be unjustly worried but in some jurisdictions it may actually seem that for certain crimes guilt is presumed.

No need, it's already clear, I'll wait a little bit to see if any more interesting answer comes up and I'll proceed to lock the thread. Anyway I don't trust giving data to someone who calls himself "malevolent", lol.

The ATMs are gonna RIP you sideways man.

I agree.

Lets say btc is 100k, they will say okay we'll buy btc and give you cash but you're gonna sell btc for 60k to us. so you might as well pay cap gain taxes at that point.

Not a chance. It doesn't work that way.

Also, I wouldn't talk about laundering anything if I were you. At least use code words or something. if you live in the USA, and maybe a few other nations, the IRS/glow boys probably read these forums.

You're not laundering btc, you're cleaning it or legitimizing it or something. Dont criminalize yourself. and yeah ik you prob dont have any info connected to your account here but still. dont talk like that, only saying it to you any anyone else reading this because I support your game plan so I'm just saying.

Yes, maybe "launder" isn't the most appropriate word, but I'm not talking about me to begin with, I'm talking about my friend, I don't have that problem. Besides, we are talking about a purchased amount of a few hundred that has turned into a few thousand. That is not a problem today. The IRS is not going to waste time starting an investigation, requesting IPs, etc. because someone supposedly has $3k that they have not declared (yet). It's not even a tax crime.

Edit: I am locking the thread, as there is another similar one and my friend went to consult a specialized tax advisor and he has already solved the doubt.

4745  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 07, 2021, 06:35:34 PM
The large drop was almost instantaneous. This points to liquidations of positions taken out on exchanges offering silly levels of leverage. Once we dropped some 5% the liquidations began and we had a cascading effect.
I guess the noobs will never learn or this was an intentional push down by some nefarious entity (insert your favourite villain here).

I agree with this. I think this is likely what happened.

The sooner we can limit leverage the better (unless you are kinggoldminer of course).

I don't agree with this at all. A few weeks back Bitcoin went up $10k in a day because the opposite happened: short leveraged positions were liquidated in cascade.

Bitcoin is strong enough as a long-term project for anyone who wants to bet against it to bet that they will not be able to break it.

Only weak projects succumb to shorts. The strong have short term volatility from shorts but long term gains.

On the other hand, how would you do it, does a politician have to come in and establish a ban on leverage in this market? Politicians of the world would have to agree and they haven't reached an agreement to ban bitcoin or to regulate it globally (yet).

This is not like the US regulator temporarily banning short positions in the NASDAQ. It is a global market.

I don't see it.
4746  Economy / Speculation / Re: The bitcoin market just gifted the El Salvadorians 15% discount on: September 07, 2021, 04:05:30 PM
I like your reading of the situation. Instead of panicking, thinking the world is going to end and hesitating to sell, much better to think we can buy at a discount price.

I just made a purchase. Fuck FUD!
4747  Other / Meta / Re: What happened to BitcoinTalk in the last years? on: September 07, 2021, 11:09:56 AM
Why do I have the feeling that the first 3 posts in this topic are coming from a Chinese farm? Smiley
I had the same feeling at first, but I don't think OP is part of it.  The writing is too good, especially compared to the two posts that followed it (which I have no doubt are part of a farm).  Then again, what the hell do I know?  They could all be RainbowKun's alts or kwalxdrzdz's or whatever that dude's name was.

I see some similarities. First, to me that a newbie who registered on January 3 but only started posting two days ago is talking about how Bitcointalk has changed in the last few years smells funny.

Then, the first responder, he registered on August 4 but only wrote 3 posts since then and comes just today to respond to this one. The second responder, registered on July 5 and that same day wrote a few posts, but has a gap in his posts like the other two and the first thread he has responded to today is this one.

It is clear to me that they are somehow connected.

4748  Other / Meta / Re: Ban Appeal for Pokapoka124 on: September 07, 2021, 10:03:33 AM
Honestly, I think the forum would need to review its policy on punishment for plagiarism. I do think that a warning should be there for first offenders before the ultimate strike.

I doubt that the forum is going to revise its policy on how to deal with plagiarism, but I agree with you. If it's just one case, if it happened a while ago, if it's moderate (not someone just copy-pasting whole paragraphs, but some sentence), don't rush into banning him.

Hi WO friends.

I got myself a hat. It's a sponsored hat, but I like being part of the hat-wearing family.

That kind of a hat does not really count.

Sure you are within the rules of the forum, but you seem to be outside of the parameters of WO "acceptable" hats that are either made by Xhomer10x or perhaps some custom-built approximation of such.. but a sponsored hat...

Fuck, you've left me shocked, JJG.
4750  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 07, 2021, 04:21:55 AM
I later today had a convince of mind that El Salvador has impact in the price of bitcoin increase from $50000 to $52000 as the country bought 200 bitcoin and more to be bought.

https://mobile.twitter.com/nayibbukele/status/1434968475928248331

200 bitcoin is a tiny amount.

I believe that if this has had an effect on the market, it is more a psychological issue than the quantity purchased.

4752  Economy / Services / Re: [CFNP] BestChange Signature Campaign | Sr Member+ on: September 07, 2021, 02:21:52 AM
Wednesday is counting day in the BestChange signature campaign and then a new week begins. from that day should wear a signature, you have enough time to finish your current campaign.

Thank you.

Well, but I've already finished the week in the other campaign, so I've already changed the signature, I don't mind wearing it one more day.

we hope everything is ok with your previous posts, you are probably under the microscope now like everyone else when you are accepted into the campaign  Wink

I also hope everything is ok.
4753  Economy / Services / Re: [CFNP] BestChange Signature Campaign | Sr Member+ on: September 06, 2021, 03:30:50 PM
Mpamaegbu has solved his problems with blocking the account and remains the participant of the signature campaign. Poker Player is taken in the campaign to replace Pokapoka124.

Bitcointalk Profile: Poker Player
Amount of merit earned in the last 120 days: 340
BTC Address: 33yHyZqAXxpnxRv8Ybfmo92US2goPtmTxD

Thank you for accepting me. I will wait a few hours to change the signature because the campaign I was in ends today.

I will edit this post with the start post number as soon as I change the signature.

Congratulations to Mpamaegbu too, because although I don't know him, and the first thing I saw about him in the forum was the plagiarism problem, I have realized that he is very well liked in the community.

4754  Economy / Services / Re: [CFNP] Duelbits.com | Signature Campaign ~ Full Members+ | Up to $70/Week on: September 06, 2021, 02:35:45 PM
Hi @Hhampuz,

Thank you very much for the opportunity you have given me to participate in the campaign during this short period of time, but this is going to be my last week. Today from 23:59:59 CET, probably tomorrow, I will change my signature.

Thanks for everything and best regards.
4755  Other / Meta / Re: Do you think some plagiarism can happen "by mistake"? on: September 05, 2021, 06:22:46 PM
In this I do not agree with you at all. You are basically telling two criminals to hide the evidence of the crime, so to speak.

It is rather inappropriate to compare plagiarists with criminals. Let's put them in jail. Cheesy

That's why I said "so to speak", lol.

What's your vision? Stop the spread of plagiarism by removing it and correcting the user who made a mistake so that he understands that it is not worth doing this, or in any case, make sure that he is banned forever, despite the fact that he is ready to correct himself and continue to be a part of the forum? I choose the first option.

My vision is that if it is a minor case, which happened only once, I could accept that person being given a second chance. But if it happened repeatedly, 3, 5, 10 times or more, I prefer to ban him and never come back. There are a majority of us who do not cheat.

But it's not so much my view as Sir Theymos', I understand he doesn't tolerate plagiarism very much, although he lets the odd mild case pass.

4756  Other / Meta / Re: Do you think some plagiarism can happen "by mistake"? on: September 05, 2021, 05:15:33 PM
Does something surprise you? This is an ordinary useless forum troll who sits with an alt account. He is scared to present his main account due to his cowardly nature. Most of his words can be safely divided by zero, since they have no basis whatsoever.

I didn't know him and I've just recently seen the feedback you left him (neutral btw, was that negative changed to neutral?).

I would advise these 2 users to just go through the history of their posts, and find all possible omissions themselves, so as not to continue to feed the troll.

In this I do not agree with you at all. You are basically telling two criminals to hide the evidence of the crime, so to speak. If they have plagiarized repeatedly they don't have to delete the evidence, what they have to be is banned from the forum, which has already happened in at least one case, and never come back, as the rules say.

Another thing is that he might be a troll, but he is a troll who discovers plagiarists.
4757  Other / Meta / Re: Report plagiarism (copy/paste) here. Mods: please give temp or permban as needed on: September 05, 2021, 04:05:48 PM
It's just the red that was copied and this is the only instance of plagiarism?

As far as I can tell, yes.

UPDATE: Mpamaegbu has responded and will be creating an appeal thread in Meta. Let's do our best to support him Smiley

Before jumping the gun, let's look at what the person who discovered the plagiarism says. I have asked him to expose all the evidence he has now:

Just my two sats and waiting for the best result of Mpamaegbu.
I am one of those people who like to shake the nerves of others, so if Mpamaegbu successfully appeals against the ban and is unbanned, I will provide new evidence since I have something in store. I am such an obnoxious brute only on weekends, on other days I enjoy watching such scandals drinking Piña colada.

Hey man. On the one hand I thank you for the work you do against plagiarists, but on the other hand I think you should expose all the evidence you have now. I think it would be the most honest thing to do and would save the forum the most work.
4759  Economy / Economics / Re: El Salvador retirees protest against Bitcoin as legal tender on: September 05, 2021, 05:53:36 AM
Then do you agree with me when I said that El Salvador’s Bitcoin Legal Tender Law should NOT force users to accept Bitcoin? Because you posted something that questioned why those people were protesting.

Not completely. No government should force users to accept Bitcoin, or Euros or USD or any kind of fiat. But yeah, you've got a point there.
4760  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ESPN into a betting deal worth 3 billion dollars $$$ on: September 05, 2021, 05:47:54 AM
From what i understand from the article i am not sure they are entering the gambling space or they are planning to lease out their brand image to gambling sites and planning to earn money that way.

I think it is more to lease out their brand image, kind of advertising:

Quote
But executives have said they want the company to avoid being directly involved in gambling transactions.

A brand-licensing deal would allow ESPN to profit from the boom in sports gambling without taking bets and making payouts to winners, which requires licenses in individual states.

Source: ESPN Explores Sports-Betting Deal Worth at Least $3 Billion

I don't know what would happen with this if the recent ban on gambling ads in Spain (although not a total ban, it reduces it a lot), becomes generalized and they start copying it all over the world, although I don't think so.
