5682  Economy / Speculation / Re: Damn, I should've bought bitcoin earlier! on: March 28, 2021, 04:37:46 PM
Lately I have been thinking more about what will happen in the next cycle than in this one. For me Bitcoin is going to be at least a 4 year plan. Probably a lifetime plan, but for the next few years I'm not going to do anything but accumulate and hold (maybe spend some minimal amount).

If you look at the WO thread there are people who have been accumulating and holding for a long time and to this day have already achieved financial freedom or very good financial stability. They would not have achieved that if they had sold at every little rise in price.

5683  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Don't buy merits on: March 28, 2021, 04:29:30 PM
I agree. Those who get the fast lane and try to cheat the system will probably end up like the guy I discovered in the following thread:

Can someone check if there is something wrong with this?

He ended up opening this thread:

I apologise from you alll

But it was useless.
5684  Economy / Speculation / Re: Exchanges Bitcoin Reserves on: March 28, 2021, 07:40:56 AM
What are your thoughts on the Bitcoin reserves of exchanges? Can this guarantee an indicator for Bitcoin price action?

No indicator can grantee the bitcoin price action but these indicators helps in determine only the probability of the price actions. It you see outflow of bitcoin from the exchanges which leads to conclusion that people are buying bitcoin and keeping them in their private wallets for long term gains. This will decrease the supply in exchanges and hence make the price rise parabolically.

Yes, I think so. It's one more indicator that goes along the lines of what most of us think: that the price at least in the medium term has to keep going up. It cannot be taken as the only indicator to explain the price rise, but it reinforces the current picture we see regarding Bitcoin of increasing demand and reduced supply.
5685  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Have anyone tried to stop gamblers from losing while they keep on wagering. on: March 28, 2021, 07:33:54 AM
I see two problems here. 1) You don't know how the person will react if you try to make them stop. 2) Even if you get him to stop playing at that moment, if he is a person who has self-control problems, he is going to end up losing more than he should at another moment.

So I think it's not worth it because you risk him having a bad reaction and you don't solve anything.
5686  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The Phases/Stages Of Bitcoin on: March 28, 2021, 07:29:31 AM
I was just thinking about what might be the "Phases of Bitcoin".    Feel free to put your own opinions here on what phases bitcoin is going through.

Quote
-snip

OP, where are you quoting that from? I have seen that somewhere or at least it was something similar. Well, it seems quite right when describing the past but we'll see if Phase D comes to fruition. In any case, if it becomes the International Trade Currency, replacing the USD, will mean a substantial change in the world economic system. Something similar to what happened in 1971, but in this case more positive for the majority of the population.
5687  Economy / Speculation / Re: Limited Bitcoin Supply Will Push Price to Incredible Numbers, Says Ark Invest’s on: March 28, 2021, 05:02:17 AM
Yeah, well, but that's just half of the story. The other half is the increasing demand. Both facts account for the present and future rise in price. But yes, that doesn't mean that the price is going to go up in a straight line, as price rises some people will want to sell and realize profits but this is the normal scenario. What's important is the price tendency due to the equation demand-supply.
5688  Economy / Economics / Re: Over the Past 300 Years, No Fiat Money Has Escaped Going to 0 on: March 28, 2021, 04:58:20 AM
Aren't you forgetting about the British Pound? It lost a lot of value over the year but I don't think it ever went to 0.

Even if we changed it to 99% of fiat money crashes every 300 years, does it mean we have to wait for it to happen? The Lira is dying as we speak but it won't make people lose everything if they get rid of it and invest.

Well done, the Pound has indeed been around for hundreds of years and never gone to zero. OP also ignores all the currencies in use currently that have not gone to zero. The USD has been around for over 220 years as well and depreciates slowly and intentionally and it's worked well for a long time.

But the point here is that even if the statement made by OP is false strictly speaking, the tendency of any fiat currency is going to 0. Both the Pound and the USD have lost more than 99% of their value and they keep going down. So they haven't reached zero yet but they are on their way to.
5689  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Governments are looking to buy Bitcoin, NYDIG CEO confirms on: March 28, 2021, 04:54:57 AM
It is clear that if Bitcoin is Gold 2.0, being much better, governments will end up buying bitcoin for their reserves in the same way they own gold. The same will happen with central banks, even if they don't want to admit it at the moment. Logically, they will start with the most crypto-friendly countries, as is the case here.
5690  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I have papersafe bitcoin stock certificate with balance. on: March 27, 2021, 02:58:15 PM
I've just put the address on an explorer out of curiousity. It has 0.01 BTC. Not bad if you are able to recover them and not too bad either if you aren't able to because you have forgotten the passphrase or something. It isn't a life changing amount. I will follow the thread to see how it goes. GL!
5691  Other / Meta / Re: Why do people beg on this forum? on: March 27, 2021, 02:51:14 PM
They simply beg because they know that money moves in this forum. In other forums they can also ask but it does not move the same money that moves here. In this thread, all but one of us (Jet Cash) participate in signature campaigns, which means that we receive money regularly through the forum.

If we add that this is a Bitcoin forum, which is a digital money, I think it is clear that if you want to get money by begging you are more likely to get it in this forum than in this one:

5692  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Books on Libertarianism Everyone Must Be Forced to Read on: March 27, 2021, 10:33:21 AM
Conversely, if you're a lazy fool born to an ultra-rich family, you'll get sent to the best private school, be fast-tracked into a great job, then through the revolving door into politics and maybe even become prime minister or president, from where you'll do everything you can to maintain the unfairness that worked so well in your own favour.

LOL. You have given Boris Johnson as an example but when I started reading the sentence I thought of George W. Bush, who would be another example of what you say. If he had been George Bush's son, he would not have been hired even to work at McDonald's.

Regarding the issue of interventionism, in general I agree, what happens is that just as the lack of interventionism can lead to the injustices you mention, interventionism is not perfect either and if we take things to the extreme in the most interventionist societies, injustices like that also occur. Let's look at how the children of politicians live in Venezuela for example and then look at how the rest of the population lives, who go hungry. I know Venezuela would not be a model of the society you are defending, but I was giving an extreme example.

On the other hand, how would you intervene to prevent people like Boris Johnson or George W. Bush from having advantages over those born in poorer families?
5693  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Retirement Funds Starting to Buy Bitcoins Nasdaq Say on: March 27, 2021, 10:19:21 AM
This is awesome and scary at the same time. A lot of huge companies are already trying to get a piece of the pie on large increments. Should there ever be a huge crash, we all know that these entities aren't as die-hard as most of us here, and would surely cut losses that'll send bitcoin into an even deeper pit.

For me it's not scary. Contrary to what you say, this type of investment funds are not going to sell Bitcoin simply because there is a moment of panic in the market, unlike what retail investors do.

To me this is good news and what I believe is that there is going to be a day in a few years when most investors in the stock market are going to be exposed in some way or another to bitcoin, either because they own a fund or stocks that have bought Bitcoin or because the companies owned allow the purchase of Bitcoin through them as happens with Paypal. This is along the lines of normalization and mass adption and is nothing but good.

Market crashes will always happen and it is one thing we cannot avoid.
5694  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How to win at roulette? on: March 27, 2021, 10:11:58 AM
It's way more simple than you can imagine : just run a roulette business and you will be sitting on a nice 2.70% house edge,  talking about European roulette ( single zero one) , that is quite a bit of HE considering most of dice sites have around 1% and the most of players keep on losing to dice as well.

Joking a bit but not even that much.

Seriously speaking to win big on roulette imo you just have to make one single allin bet and pray for luck ...like this guy did.

This sums it all up. It's amazing how every now and then we have people asking how to beat a casino game. With today's information everyone would know that there is no way to beat the casino by following strategies, because you are playing an EV-game. Another thing is that you play a game and get lucky in the short term as you say, but in that case what I recommend is to take your money and leave the casino. And don't come back. Never. The more times you play, the closer your real results will be to the mathematically expected results (which translate into losses for you).

What is clear to me is that casinos still have a great future because people don't get it into their heads and keep playing hoping to find the winning strategy.

5695  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A quick thought on how to help/save bitcoin. on: March 27, 2021, 05:52:46 AM
If you look more closely you can see that such things do not always successfully affect the market. In fact most times they are ignored by the majority specially if the post is against the ongoing market trend.
But you can also see that such effects are small and short term.

This.

The same applies to the stock market. Today Biden sneezes and the market goes down, China's president laughs and the market goes up, to give examples in a simple way. Relatively minor events can make the price of a given stock go up or down in the short term, but if the company is strong and has good fundamentals, the long-term trend is always up.

It is the same thing that happens with Bitcoin, the fundamentals are good, and it doesn't matter if in the short term a tweet or a certain piece of news makes the price go down a little, the long term trend will be to keep going up.

That's why I don't think it's worth wasting time with collective actions.

Just HODL.
5696  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Exchange rates - crypto to fiat on: March 27, 2021, 05:44:35 AM
The company that provides you with the service has to earn something, otherwise it would have to close and could not provide you with the service. That is why every time you make a currency exchange they will charge you a commission.

On the other hand, if you are trading amounts of about 10 euros, I would recommend you to be quiet. 10 euros is a pittance and if you are trading you will be eaten up by commissions. Worry about accumulating more capital and then you will think about trading. Try to buy every week or every month 10 euros of Bitcoin, or more if you can. Don't touch it, don't trade it, don't sell it. You will see how in the medium-long term it will be very profitable.

5697  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How science works on: March 27, 2021, 05:39:53 AM
... And this is how science proceeds. Previous theories are revealed to be simply approximations.

That sounds to me quite like Karl Popper, according to whom scientific theories cannot be verified, they can only be falsified, so that we can only gradually get closer to the truth.

Every advancement that tears down preconceptions is welcomed. Because the search is for truth, not for the reinforcement of an ideology.

I would argue that it is not that science works this way, but that it should work this way. Most of the time it does but even to this day there are parts of science where questions about established preconceptions are not so welcome.
5698  Other / Meta / Re: Why the witch hunt, mods? on: March 26, 2021, 11:58:01 AM
Maybe what has happened, as it has been pointed out, is that a member of the forum has seen a post of yours that he considers low quality and then he went to look at your whole story while on a reporting spree. That happened to me once but only got like 3 posts deleted. So, that guy reports quite a few of your posts and a moderator if he sees they are one-liners or something like that deletes them, thus the short space between deletions. But let's see if moderator Hilarious or another can shed some light on it. Hilarious was very helpful in my case.
5699  Economy / Speculation / Re: 3 reasons why BTC will unlikely trade below $50,000 in the near term on: March 26, 2021, 10:12:47 AM
That's a very bullish way of convincing investors to join.
Traders are seeing it differently when they see the charts that the rise isn't sustainable. This is why they are predicting at least it will take months before getting back up to its feet again and while it's happening, a slow decline of price to maybe around $40-45K will take place. The advice I got was to wait a little longer before buying BTC again.

It is characteristic of bull markets that resistance becomes support. We will see if what the article says is true. I believe that the 50k is behaving as a support, and that we will reach $100k little by little, without much trouble.
5700  Economy / Economics / Re: America stimulus support add strength to the dollar as investment increase on: March 26, 2021, 10:10:30 AM
There will be consequences, but famine won't be one of them.
...

So famine, out of the question,

Just to point out: I was not talking about famine literally, I was just using the expression, which applied to reality can refer to several areas. However, other countries that have printed en masse, such as Venezuela, have had famine, so I don't think it's totally out of the question, despite the particularities of the USA.

But yes, in general I agree that inflation is most likely to go another way, at least in the US.
