481  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Height of Greed- Deny Satoshi's Bitcoin on: June 05, 2014, 03:08:06 PM
Is Bitcoin truly democratic? Tongue

No.  Bitcoin is decentralized.
482  Economy / Speculation / Re: i just bought another bitcoin on: June 05, 2014, 01:05:29 AM
i haven't bought any in over a year.. bitcoin's too volatile for my blood. i guess i'm just conservative like that. i'm well aware that whatever amount i have, there's a good chance it will be worth nothing.

Are you just being pessimistic so you don't get disappointed?  You know BTC is going way higher than $1,000.  The momentum in the industry is becoming scary.   At this point its impossible for BTC to not fill nearly all the hopes and dreams of its founders.

483  Economy / Speculation / Re: A Stonewall Example of Market Manipulation/Engineering? on: June 05, 2014, 01:03:08 AM
the more I watch the shenanigans and utter bullshit trading on the Bitcoin exchanges, the more I am convinced that we are going up, because some whale entity has decided that we are going up and he/they have the clout to ensure that we do.

Mat you converted me to this viewpoint last week, and I posted literally 5 minutes before the $680-ish crash because ... well .. it took an IQ of twelve to figure out that's right about where they dumped last time.

Obviously being pumped and dumped.  They don't have Gox to ride the $100 differences anymore, so they have to create their own.

484  Economy / Speculation / Re: This forum is full of future millionaires on: June 04, 2014, 07:56:44 PM

I'm with Hyena on this one.  Spent 15 years of my life "playing it safe" and conservative, and it got me nowhere really. While other more daring risk takers during that time made a killing.  No more for me, I've flipped the switch.  Bitcoin will either prove to be the game changing technology and cryptocurrency that many believe it will be, or it will go down to zero.  And I guess if that happens I'll ride it down along with millions of others.  But I just don't see that as the outcome, at least not for the next 3-5 years.  It's going to turn the world of finance on it's head.  And I'm strapped in.

Great post.  I think a lot of us here may be like this.  At least those of us in the 30+ age range.  My best friend is a wealth advisor for ameriprise and has gone the "warren buffet" route (extremely slow returns, gradual, but guaranteed) and he still struggles to do all the things he wants to do.  I was the same way, and when Bitcoin came, something just made me change.  Threw caution to the wind.  I said "f*ck it" and started buying and buying and buying at $80.00.  Friends calling me crazy.   I actually felt like a total fool at the time.  But it became like an addiction.  The more I read about it, the more something inside me *knew* this was going somewhere.  One of my only super powers is shit like this.  I know when I see something that is going to be huge.  Even if everyone around me says it wont.  I have yet to be wrong.  I just have *never* taken the leap because I was afraid to take the risk.   I literally was in the sales office of a new condo complex in 2003 ready to buy as the housing boom was getting started.  It was a gamble.  And I didn't take it.  I could have purchased a place for $120,000 that sold for $750,000 less than a year and a half later.   I *always* miss the boat.  And I always know I'm missing it.  But never had the balls to go for it.

This time I am "all in".  Because this time I listened to my intuition and decided to take the risk on it.

485  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Observer Effect (over $1000 by 16 June) on: June 04, 2014, 07:50:46 PM
In regards to the chart in the OP:

Is there any indication that each of the new jumps, or general movement over time has slowed in volatility?

I am no expert in these charts.  I guess I am wondering if there is reason to believe that the *percent* increases we've seen might realistically decrease as we move to the right?

That is what most non chart people would say.  We've seen our 8000% increase already.  What reason do we have to believe it will continue along the 'same line'  ?

486  Economy / Speculation / Re: Tomorrow (Thursday) might break 700 on: June 04, 2014, 07:46:15 PM
There used to be 'guaranteed' weekend dip. There ain't no more. These patterns come and go as markets change.

I was going to ask about the whole previous "Weekend" thing.  Maybe that was a "Gox bot" thing.  And now that they're gone ...

487  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is it my imagination or does Bitcoin tend to gravitate towards $666 on: June 04, 2014, 07:45:25 PM
The price is less than 666, so time to start buying?  ;p

LOL.  Pretty much guaranteed return to $666 at least, thanks to Satan.

488  Economy / Speculation / Re: Spring Rally! on: June 04, 2014, 07:43:50 PM
Well since we are saying how high it will go this time
I say between 2 to 3x the previous range low
So Around 1800-2500 this time around  Grin

That's about what I'm guessing:  $2500 ± 500

The peak of the new bubble should really be around that value, I would sell some coins when we will break through $2000
if the rally will be in exponential mode.

489  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will BTC reach $50,000? on: June 04, 2014, 07:39:34 PM
Of course. Many (perhaps a majority of the more senior posters) here have hundreds of coins.

The real question is how many billionaires we'd have.

You reckon the majority of seniors have hundreds? I would've thought an awful lot would've lost, gambled, sold or been scammed out of a big chunk of their holdings if they'd had that much to begin with.

According to the polls taken on this site, anonymous polls (therefor no risk to admitting), the vast majority of the posters here have 10 coins or less.

Something like 80% of the posters here.  Among those who voted.

11 - 100 coins was like 10%.   The rest fit into the remaining 10%-ish.

490  Economy / Speculation / Re: Nobody owns any bitcoin (well basically nobody!) on: June 04, 2014, 07:34:08 PM
How about this:

Bitcoin adoption isn't going to happen as people buying Bitcoin.

Its going to happen as Bitcoin becomes the backbone to countless money transfer and payment systems.

Maybe?
491  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2014-06-04 Crash on: June 04, 2014, 06:40:46 PM

Bitcoin is a project created by the NSA

Very possibly true.  Or some other govt agency, or combination of agencies.

Quote
...in order to take money from the crazy anti-government libertarian movement, by getting them to invest all of their money into the project and then pulling the plug.

Aaaaaand now you're talking nonsense.   Didn't even make it through 1 full sentence.  What motivation would they have for that stupidity?   How about the first fully trackable financial system?  Isnt that a wee bit more feasible?  Or maybe some elites got sick of bailing out banks and they actually created this thing to accomplish that.  There are a thousand possible reasons why even a government might invent Bitcoin.  And its no coincidence to me that the US Govt - whom we all expected to ban bitcoin, has welcomed it with open arms.  Think about that a little bit.  Not to mention Dorian working on secret govt projects ...

If you're going to have conspiracy theories - use viable feasible logic.  Its way more fun Smiley

I'm amazed you could all make sense of the OP.

Totally unable to read or comprehend what was written.

But based on the responses - people have talked themselves up into such a hype that "such and such" alt coin is "going to the moon" that they actually believe what they say.  They have to.  They missed the bitcoin train, so they must sell this dream so they can get rich also.  In the end, there are a whole bunch of people obsessing on Alts as worthy of their time and effort.  Comparable and possibly better than Bitcoin.   These folks don't understand network effect, first mover advantage, and have zero comprehension that it is infrastructure and adoption and commerce that make a coin succeed.  Without that, you've got nothing but a pump and dump.   Wolong is the *only* reason Dogecoin became famous after the first spike.  It would have died right then and there if he and his team hadn't come along to conduct numerous pumps and dumps.   And a lot of people made money off them.  Meanwhile the enthusiasts were screaming "to the moon!" thinking it was organic value increase.

So you're saying Bitcoin can save someone from being ass raped by a spouse who wishes to take something she doesn't deserve?

Yet another reason why Bitcoin is awesome.

495  Economy / Speculation / Re: BOOM! BREAKING: Apple to allow bitcoin transmitting apps in AppStore on: June 02, 2014, 09:20:08 PM
If IRS says Bitcoin is "okay" then Bitcoin is "an approved virtual currency".

Don't read into it too much.  They left it vague because they're not idiots, and they know there is more than one.

Otherwise they have to rewrite the sentence over and over.

496  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Apple Approves Bitcoin Wallets on: June 02, 2014, 09:15:40 PM
Its so cute watching the people who are "too cool for Apple" act unimpressed.

Go back 12 months and think how excited you would be if Apple even *acknowledged* Bitcoin existed.

This is huge news.

That's really your problem with this article? It seemed like a pretty common explanation that tries to keep things simple.

499  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Promoting Bitcoin on Facebook on: June 02, 2014, 08:04:21 PM
...

Facebook has at least one BTC group, search for "Miami International Bitcoin" there.

EDIT: They have over 800 members, many NOT from Miami.

Strange suggestion.

Try searching "Bitcoin" and you'll find one with 10,000 members.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/TheBitcoin/

Although that fucking stupid banner needs to go.   It was suggested to be changed, but the maturity level of the folks on that page is apparently about twelve, so you can imagine how that went over.
