I decided it would be a great idea to move .7 BTC to a wallet, encrypt it and forget the passphrase.......

The last part wasn't part of the plan lmao.

I remember losing a small amount of bitcoin after playing with gpg and encrypting one of my cold storage addresses, then deleting both the encrypted copy and the unencrypted address keys. Oops. Smiley

Sorry boys, bear market is over, we won't even see $250 again.

Quite a bold statement. Made me remember the good old time when someone from speculation board made a side bet of btc dropping below 500$ when the "stable" price was near 800$ and a lot of people though that he was stupid delusional bear.

Not sure why you are so bearish mm. You have reasons or just sold your stash?

Two stupid threads alone today from trollypop. Why the mods allow newcomers to start threads or even bypass newb jail is beyond me. Market has changed so the troll is irrelevant at this point.

I pity the poor sod. Wasted a year of his life slagging off something he secretly loves yet failed to get close to the bottom Wink
Too bad they don't get a real job and then have steady money coming in to stock their own wallet up with coin instead of ramble online just to get another sock ignored.

I am curious to know how he comes up with the usernames though Smiley

bfxdata.com is also useful for seeing how the leverage is building up on long and short side..

487  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: July 28, 2015, 12:33:33 PM
Unfortunately for money to have store of value efficiency it must ultimately have value which with bitcoin rests again on its currency efficiency.

Miners could only store non dust UTXOs in easily accessible storage and ignore incoming txns that spend them unless the fee is worth the cost to look the UTXOs up. There are so many possibilities.   Your problem is that you are a central planner even tho you dont know it -- you are forcing a particular solution (expensive limited txns) onto the network as a whole.

He refuses to understand where the speculative value of bitcoin lies, the decentralised cheap unlimited transactional nature of bitcoin coupled with first mover advantage and importantly the expectation of progressive adoptive waves of new users.

If bitcoin is crippled and day to day transactions are forced off chain then bitcoin ceases to maintain either it's attractiveness or advantages over competing usurper chains. It isn't hard to see a migration of new users to alternate chains or digital monetary media and a collapse in the exchange price of bitcoin if that scenario plays out.

Does the Core team really believe bitcoin will maintain it's speculative value if it continues to be a play thing for 10,000 people globally? Wink

BTC-e is still more than $10 below other USD markets. Any reasons for this? I doubt the fatfinger/flash crash has to do with it anymore as that was a while ago. Ideas?

I have been wondering about this too. Assuming they have a large portion east european customers (which may or not be the case): Bitcoin price is depressed, which is the same as the dollar price is pressed upwards (assuming we trade in the bitcoin/dollar pair), so: Some people use bitcoin to move dollars into east europe?

I can understand the attraction of using btc-e for I'll gotten gains and washing money.

But why with a history of flash crashes through manipulative selling anyone would trade there is beyond me. Not rolling back trades in that scenario sends the wrong signals.

A wider point is that DDOS attacks should also be made ineffectual by preventing those short selling during such attacks from profiteering by simply rolling back trades. Removing the ability to profit tends to remove such clandestine market operations.

It is all over. $20 here we come...

Roll Eyes I know it's painful to have lost the opportunity to be an early adopter, but this is just sad. And it's also wrong, because someone could take you seriously.
well its still possible to go to 20 dollars if the people who stole from exchanges and satoshi decide to start dumping their coins in enormous amounts, even though it has small chances of happening, its still possible

People dont tend to deliberately waste money.

All these doomer threads have one thing in common, an OP who failed to buy in at lower levels and hopes the price will crash allowing history to repeat and enrich them in the process. Far more delusionary than bulls like me suggesting the price will rise commensurate with the next adoption wave.

Why does everybody here become Nerdchills just because the Bitcoin price changed today +1.6% ?

Euro/Usd rallied today as well by 1.35%.. But in Forex you have the opportunity to trade with up to 200x leverage... Which makes a 1% move 200% gains...

The sad thing is you can't really trade Bitcoin with 20x leverage because the liquidity is so shity.

You were here this morning educating us on how Bitcoin cannot move up. Now you wonder why it's going up.

Good luck with those CFDs and 200x leverage.

lol I wouldn't call a 1.6% going really up at Bitcoin....

I hate to break it to you but you aren't fooling anyone on here with your forex l33t trading chat. Most of the bulls on here have been round the block a few times.
491  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 27, 2015, 11:21:00 PM
I think I worked out the bear game plan:

1. Short at 298 on finex - the price is going to double digits, right?
2. Price continues to rise
3. Huh
4. Profit!

Give up guys.
492  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 27, 2015, 10:58:28 PM

But we will be back to 230 by Friday.

I see the bears are shorting again here at 300. It is basically a last stand for them.

Any appreciable buying now will eviscerate the remaining 10,666 shorts on finex.

Place your bets!

If the bears don't understand or care to learn about the context of the market compared to its prior actions--that is, how the last six months has been coiling the spring of this rally--they deserve to lose money.

I do wonder if they believe the crap they spew.

I only believe you, inca..   Grin Grin Grin

Barring disaster I believe bitcoin will go on for many years into the future and succeed. The very nature of bitcoin, it's scarcity, hype cycles and adoption waves means that it will be volatile way into the future. Previously that has been upward volatility and I see no reason for that to stop being the case yet.

I would be extremely surprised if bitcoin doesn't moon at least once in the next two years.

496  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is there a quiet redistribution / accumulation going on? on: July 27, 2015, 05:55:39 PM
Do you think in the past year and a half (since ATH), has there been a quiet redistribution of bitcoins? Do you think major players are quietly accumulating right now?
...

Of course there has been a redistribution, from early adopters to piglets bagholders bitcoin enthusiasts.
Major players are quietly distributing now, they will accumulate when we'll reach double digits (or close).

You keep trotting out this scenario but each time it looks less and less likely.

Besides, the high volume capitulation at 160 and the months later were the accumulation phase. Shorts are down by 25k on bitfinex, I wonder why they aren't reaccumulating for double digits! Smiley

498  Economy / Speculation / Re: PnF TA on: July 26, 2015, 10:08:03 PM

Looks like week of Aug 10 will ensue the big sell off in gold (and probably also Bitcoin):

Do you know when the big sell off started the previous summer (from the 685$ high to 165$ bottom)? August 11th!

It made a nice double top 685$ and 665$ and the rest is history...
Will it repeat itself (315 and 305?)?

I think the market is in a different place technically... we really didn't get a high volume capitulation before the run to $600 last summer, so there was still excess supply waiting in the wings to bring the price down. Contrast that to the record high volume in January during the selloff to $166--that event alone was enough to make the market bullish for some time. And if you've been watching the tape, volume trailed off dramatically in May/June with multiple failed tests to the lows. If we could have sold off, it would have been then. That's enough to convince me that there aren't enough sellers to bring the price down very far, even if we fail to break $315 definitively.

I agree bassclef. We may or may not breach 300/315 in the next hours/days but the bear is over. The capitulation low in January was obvious to many on here and now after six months we have a very bullish technical picture appearing. Accumulation time may be coming to and end.
499  Economy / Speculation / Re: Free money available on: July 26, 2015, 09:15:47 PM
and i thought there really is free money here

There is. Just go long BTC and wait years. Free money doesn't say anything about the interest rate. (And optionally loan BTC at roughly 30% per annum return denominated in BTC at bitfinex so others can sell your BTC short)

Or the alternative is sell BTC and wait some months.

Also "free money" doesn't speak to the risk involved, e.g. the risk of being long BTC for years (your life priorities and needs change while BTC is < $100 for example) or the risk of borrowing BTC to sell short. Even doing nothing, breathing or driving in a car has risk.

Your timing and risk profile determines your choice amongst those options. For me, the optimum choice was to sell BTC for dollars at $300+. Because I need to expend the dollars over the next months on mathematicians and programmers. And I can't tolerate a drop in the dollar value, because my near-term expenses are in dollars. Also my upside is on R&D and not expending my time watching my short positions. And return of dollars is more crucial to me than riskier capital gains on dollars, because my upside is much greater on R&D with much less risk vs. reward, than on speculate investing. Others have different situations thus a different choice to make.

The interest rates have turned (as of yesterday in shocking development which has been predicted since the 1980s) which implies collapsing global liquidity, thus you don't stand a chance in hell of being correct against me and Armstrong's supercomputer with $1 billion of historical data pattern matched for periodic patterns.

inca I am not retired and when I replace Bitcoin, you can go hide under a rock.

inca, I suggest you view a volatility chart of which the recent pattern low was how in May we called for the rise to $315 (long-term trend line, now headed to $320) as well as the seasonality factor for gold which was pointed out by Armstrong.

Sorry thought you were retired. Replace bitcoin? Sure let me buy 50$ worth of coins when you launch Wink
