4801  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin's huge carbon footprint - deal breaker on: June 24, 2019, 01:50:19 PM
Well, in this world where people actually care about the planet - you can't say this is any good...
https://edition.cnn.com/2019/06/14/tech/bitcoin-carbon-footprint-trnd/index.html

Bitcoin is definitely spewing out WAY TOO much carbon dioxide and is going to kill us all.  Can't fix it either because the entire notion of blockchain requires competitive mining.  It is only going to get much worse as Bitcoin value increases.  Total ruin.

I really think this is the death knell for Bitcoin.

Lol! Mints worldwide are emitting way more electricity that bitcoin consumes. Why should we need physical money after all? If these is your perspective of bitcoin mining, then you should start with mints worldwide. Carbon emission is indeed a challenge which world leaders need to address at some point of time! But targetting Bitcoin mining for that, is not going to help at all!

On the flipside, it is much easier for miners to switch from conventional energy source to alternative source! But it is not possible for big factories to rely on alternate source due to their high consumption!

BTW, do you think thermal power generation process does any less harm to the nature??
4802  Economy / Economics / Re: Any other areas that blockchain can be used? on: June 24, 2019, 03:52:18 AM
Facebook and Libra are focusing on Financial area. Is there any other area that blockchain can be used?? It's hard for me to imagine anything else.

Don't compare Blockchain and cryptocurrencies, these are absolutely different areas! While blockchain is a technology, bitcoin is just one of its use cases.

However, please read the below link to learn more about possible use cases of blockchain,

Hope this helps!
4803  Local / India / Re: State of Cryptocurrency's Legality in India - Collection of fact based news on: June 24, 2019, 03:44:36 AM
Thank you for putting this links together! It will really help people to understand the legislative progress of cryptos in India. However, as a early adopter, I diligently follow Crypto Kanoon to get all my doubts cleared about cryptos in India. I recommend you to add their YouTube channel link and Twitter handle details to the main thread because these are Goldmines!

Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8FCcWDNe2N8EfEiVd7AwtA
Twitter handle: https://twitter.com/cryptokanoon

They are a group of lawyers and even have an email ID where you   can post your concerns and tax questions! They have been tremendously helpful to me since all these years!
4804  Local / India / Re: A new risk has surfaced in p2p trading, beware and stay safe! on: June 24, 2019, 03:25:11 AM

Yes! And the worst part is that you won't know it immediately! While you are happy that you have received the money against your bitcoin and released the escrow, probably you will get a police visit on the next day or so! In the meantime, hacker are getting away with your bitcoin. It's better to look the reputation of the trader first!

You must be aware of escrow.ms case so it's really too risky to even deal with reputed users. Those users may have also received hacked funds and will forward it to you. That's why I always dealt with Indian exchanges that sent money through their bank accounts rather than private individuals whose source of money is unknown. I got a call immediately from citrus when this happened to me so it doesn't take long.

I have been using localbitcoins since a long time now. And by God's grace, never faced any such issues! But what local exchange do you prefer to cash out ypur bitcoins?? I have never used anything other than LBC, so a recommendation will be helpful!

I am seriously thinking of leaving LBC now due to such risks! Also I am wondering how an Indian crypto exchange is still operating their business banking accounts in India even after the RBI ban on crypto businesses!
4805  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Libra vs. Bitcoin - What's the Dif? on: June 24, 2019, 03:16:39 AM
So in short,
Bitcoin is:
Good

Libra is:
Bad
 Grin

Quote
The cheapest, fastest, and most secure way to send money yet invented.
There are already altcoins that's way more cheaper, faster and more secure than Bitcoin, it's just that Bitcoin is the father and pioneer of cryptocurrency.

I won't particularly say Libra is bad because of many reasons. When Bitcoin came to the market back in 2008-09, it shook the world and especially the banking system! But it failed to get the desired support from the regulatory authorities.

What Libra is trying to do is to take the game another notch higher. Facebook is actually trying to capture the mass banking segment using their technology. Libra is definitely a game changer for the cryptos! But yes, you won't get what bitcoin offers to us, but that certainly doesn't make it bad.

Cryptonites -Blockchain Brothers: "Data is the new global currency"

Welcome back to the no BS blockchain channel covering bitcoin, cryptocurrency and everything around fintech. Episode 4 is here with Cyrus Fazel, co-founder and CEO of SwissBorg and more importantly a family member. In this episode, we will answer some very critical questions related to cryptocurrency, wealth management, and data monetization.

(click on the picture to be redirected to the youtube video)

I would rather say, TIME is the future global currency, not data! I am sure we can have a reasonable number of constructive arguments but if we are thinking to move to a regime where everyone will get equal payment without any discrimination, TIME can only solve this! Data also has a big value in the market today and only a couple of IT conglomerates like Facebook, Google, Apple etc. are making real use of it! But when it comes to equality and ensuring proper wealth distribution, TIME has no competitor!

Also when we talk about Global currency, it has to be built on a standardized platform. Do you have a better standardized and Global platform other than TIME?? It needs profound though process from the Global think tanks, but I believe it is only currency that will be used in the future! Data is just becoming a commodity which is controlled by few privileged corporate!
4807  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: hello, is there way to pay rent into a bank account in the UK using btc? on: June 23, 2019, 02:48:13 PM
hello, is there way to pay rent into a bank account in the UK using btc?

You can use https://localbitcoins.com/ service for this, ones you send the btc to the page then place the sell order and use the rent bill info for the bank transaction, once the buyer sends you the receipt then send that information to your landlord as the rent payment.

This should work.

Yes, That's correct! But a majority of the traders don't send payments to a third party accounts. Means you need to convert your bitcoins to your own bank account which you can later transfer to your landlord's account. The traders usually won't transfer it directly to your landlord's account. Because third party transfers come with a significant risk attached with it.

Also not just Localbitcoins, there are paxful, bisq and other exchanges available as well! However, there is no other way to pay directly in bitcoin to a bank account. You need to have a trader to exchange it first!

4809  Local / India / Re: A new risk has surfaced in p2p trading, beware and stay safe! on: June 20, 2019, 04:50:18 PM
This is nothing new. I was sent fraudulent citris cash funds and even after I filed an FIR, I couldn't get my money back. Here sending money from fraudulent bank accounts means the hackers are risking such a huge fraud so it would be for money in lakhs. But since the receiver also is falling in trouble, it's dangerous to receive such money as you can also look like the perpetrator.

Yes! And the worst part is that you won't know it immediately! While you are happy that you have received the money against your bitcoin and released the escrow, probably you will get a police visit on the next day or so! In the meantime, hacker are getting away with your bitcoin. It's better to look the reputation of the trader first!

4812  Economy / Speculation / Re: John McAfee Says- If Bitcoin Breaks 100k you can bet it will break a million on: June 20, 2019, 01:35:05 PM
John McAfee, the future presidential candidate says that If Bitcoin Breaks 100k you can bet it will break a million.

What's your point of view on this, let me know!

John McAfee says a lot of things! I see no reason to bank on such comments. There is an open challenge he had given which is still active. He said that if bitcoin price doesn't reach to 1 million usd by the end of 2020, he will eat his dick. Even though he is one of the most influential figure in crypto world, such useless comments certainly bring his value down!

Bitcoin reaching 1 million is a dream which will never come true! Even 100k is very very difficult! It's always better to stay close to reality!
4813  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Members of US Congress already telling Facebook to halt libra on: June 20, 2019, 03:30:59 AM
Well here we go another downfall of centralized crypto.

https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-48688359

The gist of it is that they want to fully look into and approve it before it launches. The issue is Congress is tech challenged, so let's just see how well this goes as it signals a bumpy start for the Libra project.

(Btw Libra? Really way to copycat your ex Winklevoss buds and their Gemini name)

That is going to happen in almost every country! Since FB is an US company so US lawmakers are getting their hands dirty first. Facebook will face a lot of regulatory challenges in majority of the countries, especially in Asia!

What Facebook is trying to achieve is to create and establish a global virtual currency with stable price which people can spend almost anywhere in the world. Facebook is trying to do it within the legal limits which bitcoin didn't care about! 2020 seems like a very stringent deadline for this!
4814  Economy / Gambling / Re: Can a site in BETA be posted here for pre-launch feedback? on: June 20, 2019, 03:22:41 AM
I'm part of a team working on a sports betting site and we're about to go into beta testing and we need proper feedback from real users. Would it be against community etiquette to post a beta site here?

It's great that you are actually seeking feedback from the real users and letting us know that the website is in beta testing! We have had many examples where people have copy pasted FAQ from other websites and forgot to delete that name and started a full fledged website.

Bring it on! There is no specific rule for that!
4815  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: this is what every country will do on: June 20, 2019, 02:30:34 AM
Lithuania is preparing new rules to govern cryptocurrency transactions, requiring businesses to prove the identity of clients, local daily news outlet Delfi reported on June 12.

As part of its obligations to impose European Union anti-money laundering (AML) regulations, Lithuania’s finance ministry will seek to completely formalize crypto-based exchange operations.

Parliament approved the move during a sitting on Wednesday, Delfi says, while a time frame remains uncertain for implementation.

Once the rules come into effect, any transactions worth over €1,000 ($1,127) involving cryptocurrency — be it into or out of fiat or from one cryptocurrency to another — will face stringent reporting requirements.

Exchanges or similar businesses will have to gather identity information about the buyer, while large operations over €15,000 ($16,919) will oblige them to inform Lithuania’s Financial Crime Investigation Service.

https://cointelegraph.com/news/lithuania-to-regulate-cryptocurrency-exchange-sector-with-obligatory-id-checks

AML is one framework that every country will have to oblige! No exceptions should be given! While I am not against the crypto circulation among the masses, but we will also have to ensure that such transactions are not helping terrorism or any other illegal activities! Bitcoin has already earned a bad reputation due to its involvement with Silk road, NZ terrorist attack and many other! It's our job to ensure that such things don't happen again! Regulation exactly means that!
4816  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Want to achieve success in trading? on: June 19, 2019, 02:22:54 PM
Trading is not easy at all. It is very difficult and technical work. It is difficult to achieve success in trading. I am giving some tips which hope to work better in trading. Hopefully these will be successful in trading if you follow them.

Set your goal first
Do not invest more than you can afford
Be patient
Use prudent leverage
Stay aware

These are just few psychological quotients mentioned here! In reality, it takes much more to be successful in trading! It required education, it requires strategy, it requires interest in current market news! Where are those??

I would rather suggest everyone to understand various strategies of trading that professional traders follow. There are lots of YouTube channels that anyone can follow to learn about those! Make use of those contents!

Please update your thread with some good videos about trading. Let me start,

There are hundreds more but these two should help anyone to start!
4817  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin equal Blockchain? on: June 19, 2019, 01:47:15 PM
Yes definatly  bitcoin is totally dependant  on blockchain technology.. without blockchain technology bitcoin  is just algorithmic  or codes and nothing.. but with blockchain it is a currency...

I think you did not get the question! Your answer would have made sense if the question was - "Is blockchain equal to bitcoin?".

However, the question was asked in a different manner where Bitcoin's equality is being compared to blockchain. The correct answer is NO!

If blockchain is galaxy, then bitcoin is just a small meteor! Bitcoin is just one of the practical implementations of blockchain in financial technology field.
4818  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why do you gamble? on: June 19, 2019, 01:34:35 PM
This is a simple question, but one with a much deeper meaning.

Have you ever considered the reason behind your gambling habit or in some cases addiction? Do you gamble for fun or do you gamble for potential profit?

Do you gamble because you are bored or because you have some medical condition that prevents you from going out to experience other type of entertainment?

Do you gamble, because you hope that a big jackpot will solve all your debt problems or that a big jackpot would fund your dreams?

We should always consider why we do specific things in life and if those things are constructive or damaging in some way and then evaluate our actions to prevent harmful situations.

Looking forward to your responses.  Cheesy

I am sure you will get mixed bag of responses on your question. While a lot of people gamble to make some quick money, you will also find a good percentage of gamers who looks at it as an entertainment.

When I started making money online in 2009, I also tried to gamble with my earned money (I wasn't aware of cryptos then). The main motto behind gambling that time was to make some quick profit. But as I grew older and more experienced, I realized that I am not that lucky which will make me rich overnight! So I stopped playing slot and dice games and moved to forex trading. And trust me, forex trading was nothing less than gambling!

Now when I gamble, it's purely entertainment and I strictly keep my bankroll under control. If I make loss, I don't try to recover that loss by putting extra money in!
4819  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin prices skyrocket thanks to Facebook on: June 19, 2019, 09:16:15 AM
The latest monitoring shows that the price of Bitcoin is above USD 9,200 per chip. The increasing crypto currency value is in line with its market capitalization which also jumped to USD 163 billion,

It's been a while since the digital currency posted that value. The last time Bitcoin had a price above USD 9,000 occurred in May 2018, or more than a year ago.

Investigating, the presence of Facebook's digital currency has contributed to controlling the value of Bitcoin. Some investors say the social networking plan is encouraging people to buy Bitcoin. This shows optimism for the increasingly widespread application of cryptocurrency in the mainstream financial system.

Not long ago, Facebook was rumored to be launching its digital currency on June 18. That date is much faster than the previous news that said that they would only launch digital currency globally by 2020.

Later, the digital currency which is called to be called stablecoin can be an option for Facebook employees as a form of payment of their salaries. In addition, the company made by Mark Zuckerberg also targets the currency to be used in developing countries where many residents still do not have bank accounts.

Nope! I don't think facebook has slightest relation with the bitcoin's price surge! Probably it has just help to boost the morale of the crypto users worldwide, but nothing else.

Like you, even I am looking for a valid answer behind this steady growth in bitcoin's price and hovering over to a lot of news website for some insight. I encourage you to read the below article which seems to be the most realistic explanation behind this growth,

https://www.coindesk.com/bitcoins-2019-price-run-driven-by-real-transaction-growth-analysis-shows

Facebook is nowhere mentioned it seems!
