501  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy#2] Avalon ASICs CHIPS! 1 chip = .078BTC = 282Mhash! on: May 02, 2013, 04:20:13 PM
Nice! That's that's 144G/Hash! at about 1250watts. At current difficulty, it'd make you $28,269.58/month, before electricity costs (about $150 in energy cost).

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aoe35iPRQzfodExmdE5DdHo2OWo4YVUtUHZpNEg5X0E#gid=0

That would be one AWESOME rig to have.

I'm just gonna have a puny 120-chip rig to start, assuming this second buy actually funds. 85 if it doesn't.  Undecided

Avalon's confirmed orders of chips ALONE are going to quadruple the network hashrate.  Add in the other ASICs, difficulty will be between 6x and 10x+ higher, and prices seem to be dropping down
502  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 2 Batch's of avalon chips available - 6.1btc w/ zefir's batch #1 + 20.1btc chips on: May 02, 2013, 04:17:34 PM
Sent 20.164 BTC for the 252 chips remaining on ragingazn628's 1st group by to atsecure  @ his address 1KZqvEDfxN7ciANDTeJqrkRdVyY983KwiD

transaction ID : b68098d0d438c68f9334685da8419e2c8aeae6de2a975b43caf8ea2f1f2ed5ad
503  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Ann] Funded Group ASIC buy, Chips available on: May 02, 2013, 02:26:06 AM
Looking into it, the actual address that all the avalon asic chip BTC goes to has "only" about 660,000 chips or 187 THash/second

of course as they keep taking orders this will go up, but the rate of orders have been slowing down.

apologize for the psuedo-derail
504  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: So many ASIC's Miner join, GPU mining will die on: May 02, 2013, 01:40:52 AM
Litecoin and maybe what, feathercoin? are the only altcoins that are resistant/immune to asics and fpgas.  all other litecoins can be mined by asics..
505  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New ASIC Cedartec on: May 02, 2013, 01:38:40 AM

fan noise, truly the most important spec in an ASIC

also, the fact that it's 25 dB

dB relative to WHAT?
506  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DIY PCB with AVALON - [OP Makeover - Forming List of Developers] on: May 02, 2013, 01:08:48 AM
* Make it simple enough that anyone with a DIY spirit can assemble one of these with
some simple low priced tools.
https://www.sparkfun.com/tutorials/category/2
DIY manufacturing may be an avenue to get these out much faster.
Expect a few hours assembly time per board.

How do you plan to do this with all the QFN + Thermal pad chips?

Not saying it's impossible

Just, can be damn tricky.
507  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DIY PCB with AVALON - [OP Makeover - Forming List of Developers] on: May 02, 2013, 01:00:33 AM
With 256 chips per board you can hash conservatively 64GHs/s per board. You can stack up to 5 of these boards together for over 320 Ghs/s per unit.

Worth to try...
And also each board could double as a pro grade waffle iron...

Nah! We are talking here less than 2.5 KW (including PS losses). Currently I am wasting much more power in my mining rig and only achieving less than 3 GHs/s with 6 Radeon HD cards!

I used to work for different companies as a design EE and I and used to handled power waste (heat losses) evacuation efficiently. So I know what I am talking about...
Problem is they're these damn tiny QFN chips each burning 2.something watts

It can be done of course, just less than ideal
508  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 490,000 Avalon chips already ordered - 150T/hash spike coming in August on: May 02, 2013, 12:58:10 AM
The chips will arrive before batch III it would seem.    If they can make 20 avalons at day and start in 2 weeks from now, that means batch II won't complete until 3rd week of june putting batch III at shipping complete end of july.   When is everyone supposed to get their chips?

in my opinion?: the chips are going to be delayed too, and probably delayed more.

I purchased order #10177. I don't think they started from 0. The earliest posted order I know of is Zefir's @ #9725.

Thats 452 orders of 10k sets of chips.  That's 4,520,000 Avalon chips ordered.
1274.64 Terahash/second.
Difficulty of god knows
That can't possibly be right.

That is not right. A lot of order numbers are just people clicking "buy" without paying.
https://blockchain.info/address/1FGAftzSTztFSB8LMwsrdCKTyqGY6zr3sU shows 66 batches bought so far. That's all.

i see, that makes more sense.  based on the BTC going to that address, we will see, assuming NO MORE orders (unlikely), 186.38 Thash/sec come online (network is currently ~75 THash/sec)

I suppose Avalon has never said anything about how long they will keep taking orders and shit have they?
509  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Klondike - 16 chip ASIC Open Source Board - Preliminary on: May 02, 2013, 12:54:29 AM
I just saw that zefir was posting something about "sample" chips that get sent by the factory in May before the final chips. First I heard about this.

He said that he would distribute them to buyers in proportion to their order qty. I don't think he knows yet what qty of samples may be due.

So if anyone interested in my board has large chip orders with him you may be able to get some sample qty. in May. If so, it would be very, very, very helpful to try and arrange for those samples to be sent on to me for early board testing so that I can debug and once we know the board works, we can order a large batch in time for final chip deliveries.

BTW I'm moving the power connector down to the end and turning it so that a right angle connector could be used. A little better for those who want to stack boards.
Could you get something that 'emulates' the function of the Avalon chips, populate a PCB or two with all the other components,  just to see that everything else works first?  Then you know it there's problems its because of the avalon chip and not something else

I see now you're already doing that, nice!

Couple other thoughts offhand..

* good ole fashioned 63/37 lead solder is going to be the easiest to work with and reflow at the lowest temp.  do you see any reason NOT to get that?  (Maybe the default cheap deals from boardhouses use RoHS HASL now..)
* I'm guessing your OP pic was when you were trying for a 2 layer board (plane fill on top layer) - aye, forget that.  you can also get somewhat better heatsinking by tieing all the thermal vias on the ground pad of the QFN to the ground plane with no thermal relief.  I will have to check, i once saw an appnote about SMT heatsinking with copper planes (both internal and external) and they calculated the degrees C/W of various configuratins of plane size, plane thickness (e.g. 1oz copper up to 10oz copper, etc).  May prove useful for these little QFN buggers.  Who knows, maybe it could keep the heat down and allow for a little OC headroom.

* what are your overall dimensions roughly?  it looks like this will panalize very nicely.  i'm assuming 0.062" FR4.
* what board house were you looking to get this from?

I have a few tweaks and ideas i'd like to try, i plan to mill out some initial test pcbs (only 2 layer but just to confirm some thermodynamics and mechanical fit) and order some 4 layer boards

It just kind of sucks these are all QFN with a thermal pad for the heatsinking, makes it difficult to DIY.    Seems like this is the sort of thing you really have to pick & replace + reflow.

45nm eh?  What's your power efficiency?

based on your ship time i'd say i don't trust it, zero.  that and the website is giving me BFL deja vu
511  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Ann] Funded Group ASIC buy, Chips available on: May 02, 2013, 12:01:33 AM
Can I ask when your batch #10177 order was placed?

Also how you plan to divy up the import tax/customs/etc (the estimated $404.82) - proportional to # of chips, or averaged equally across everyone, etc?

I'm interested

Sorry but I don't exactly follow, what do you mean you bought batch (#10177)?  You bought 10,177 chips?  Order #10,177 on avalon?  There surely haven't been 10,177 orders for 10,000 chips..

When did Avalon start selling their chips?
513  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [LTC][Pool][PPS]notroll.in PPS Pool -scam alert- on: May 01, 2013, 11:10:41 PM
reading through the thread the site owner has paid back some of the top people who were owed LTC (one was owed ~900)

but i think it requires manual intervention or something, the hot wallet will hit 50 LTC and people will withdraw from it instantly  if you have more than 50 you could never get your money out.

Where? He OFFERED to put up a page where people could submit a form for reimbursement, but that was almost a month ago. He hasn't put a page up, or said anything since.

People that have successfully cashed out of notroll.in because they were lucky enough to try when the hot wallet had enough funds to cover their withdrawl isn't the same as being reimbursed for the money that Nicksasa stole from them.

I'm referring to Yochdog who had 900 something coins, and couldn't ever cash out because the hot wallet would never get near that  (generally anyone with more than 50 LTC to pay out is in this predicament).  Nick contacted him to let him get his coins - so I and others just have to play the waiting game

it has nothing to do with the double-paying/money taking/whatever thing.

Iirc the 'proof' was like 45,000 btc being moved.  It was damn close to the number for 10k chips x 50

10 batches aka 100k chips? I think people had posted evidence of 500k chips being bought?

Fine by me.

I am interested in buying the 20.1btc on ragingazn628's first order  -- Assuming that's OK with him and John K. -- I'm not sure how it will work as i believe that deal with through escrow?

Chips would be coming directly to myself for DIY/self-sourced boards, not to a third party, if it matters.

You can put me down for 24 BTC worth of chips, maybe more (if i can get money out of places) - can send the 24btc before the weekend

For everyone else having issues with payouts, just spam the withdraw button every few minutes, the pool sometimes gets balance in the wallet and can pay you.

This only works for small miners with a small balance. Any users with a large balance will not be able to receive their payout.

Quote
Sitting on close to 200 LTC and getting transaction failed...

Unless Nick comes back, you have no chance of getting this out because of the reason above. ^^^
There are too many smaller miners still mining this pool that are spamming the withdraw button every time a block is found. This rapidly reduces the hot wallets supply.
So unless for some crazy reason the pool finds 4 blocks extremely fast, and no one other than you withdraws from the pool, you won't be seeing this LTC until (if) Nick comes back.
i'm saddened to find out you can only withdrawl the full amount at once now
