501  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] | BlackCoin (BC/BLK) | PoS | Incompetent Dev | Split Community on: May 14, 2014, 07:30:48 AM
If one wins, another(s) always lose. Rock solid rule.
Another one. Hype cant last long. None of the new alts have roots strong and spread enough to hold their hyped price.
502  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] | BlackCoin (BC/BLK) | PoS | Incompetent Dev | Split Community on: May 14, 2014, 07:03:05 AM
Interesting. While it somewhat benefits to BC to have several ANN threads, its still confusing for members. Much info is split. Its kind of annoying.
Alternate cryptocurrencies subforum has become a big mess with all those alts incoming left and right.
Perhaps we could push bitcointalk devs to create additional subforums. Like in CCT maybe?
503  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Digit [DIG] | Something Different! | Fully Transparent! | 1000 DIG blocks! on: May 14, 2014, 06:56:06 AM
Yes, i think you need time and more posts to become full member. Takes about 1-2 months i guess.
504  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Digit [DIG] | Something Different! | Fully Transparent! | 1000 DIG blocks! on: May 14, 2014, 05:55:05 AM
why my DIGIT signature is in black&white?
want back my colors!!!  Angry

Yeah, unfortunately bitcointalk forum rules steal you colors until you are full member.

CoinedUp would be nice indeed! They have decent volumes and their API should be good.
I really like DSF the attitude. Too bad that Announcements subforum is overflowed with all the "get rich quick" coins.
506  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MINT]Mintcoin V1.9.1, Energy Saving Coin *27 Exchanges *57 Merchants on: May 13, 2014, 08:43:55 PM
Its not that im too concerned about how much of premine goes where. Im interested about how much premine is already been sold off and how much is left?
Since i am rather big investor in this coin and i have dedicated a lot of hours for compiling wallets for mintcoin, i think i deserve to know more than i know now.
507  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MINT]Mintcoin V1.9.1, Energy Saving Coin *27 Exchanges *57 Merchants on: May 13, 2014, 07:04:31 PM
In short term, MINT will not get you much profit. Probably not anything at all.
In long term? Yes it may.
Still waiting for mintcointeam to step up and share info about premine.

CPU mining profitable with any of those algos?

What's the best way to keep coins safe, offline I assume, in a paper wallet?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=597634.msg6570991#msg6570991

First question and answer. It applies to any coin really.

- safe password (dont store your password on your PC)
- good internet security (for windows) Encrypted drive and dont run as root (for linux)
- think before clicking sucpicious links
- have your router firewalled and passthrough only the ports you really need.

515  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How PoS works on: May 12, 2014, 04:45:30 PM
Few pointers.

PoS staking/minting does not really increase your monthly electricity bill. (if your system or wallet is not bugged or damaged)
For example on any i5/i7 desktop machine you could run 10 PoS wallets staking at the same time and still be below 5% on cpu load on average.
So thats not an issue at all for most cases.

Another thing.
People tend to overrate compounding interest. Its not that big of the sum you win by having your wallet online 24/7. Most cases not worth it.
Just take your wallet online once per week and for most coins you will lose pretty much nothing.

Would be nice to calculate and make spreadsheet for popular coins, but i dont know if anyone is up for it.

Hi David.
Looks like common Arc problem lately.
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=177178
Perhaps just compile without UPNP and forward your port manually:
Code:
make -f makefile.unix USE_UPNP=-
for daemon or same for qt.

Did not work (make: *** No rule to make target 'makefile.unix'. Stop.). http://pastebin.com/LzA5AYCj
How do I forward port manually?

Depending on your router, log in to it and there should be an option for that. Do you even need router port forwarding? Is your router firewalled?
You need to be in /coinname/src directory in order to compile daemon.
This is how i do it on Ubuntu. Also should hold true on Debian.
Code:
make -f makefile.unix USE_UPNP=-

You need to be in /coinname directory in order to compile qt wallet:
Code:
qmake USE_UPNP=-
make

I also have had some stoppages while compiling various coins. Usually i find my answers faster by googleŽing.
But when i am available, and i think i can help, i will gladly assist.
517  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ASIC-RESISTANT] UltraCoin (UTC) - Ultrafast 6 second transactions!! on: May 12, 2014, 02:07:11 PM
Hi all, tried solo mining through my wallet's console with "setgenerate true" but was showing O hashpersec!

I've now downloaded the recommended minerd software, can someone please help me set up the bat file to get running?

I using a FX-9370 cpu overclocked to 4.9 GHz!

Did your check if CPU got loaded at all?
518  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - Version 1.4. Stake For Charity. on: May 12, 2014, 01:52:37 PM
I guess the speed of transaction is quick enough for all coins with 60s or faster block time. Besides, PoW/PoS coins have generally faster blocks than stated, because PoS difficulty being independent from PoW difficulty.
If i am not mistaken, then Fastcoin has had many problems because of its 12s block time?

I have not seen any faster coin than Fastcoin tho.
519  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Proof of Stake Coin List on: May 12, 2014, 01:46:27 PM
Even considering compounding interest (which takes CPU ressources, by the way since you let your wallet on), this is still too low in a world where price can drop 50% in one day. It's fortunate min's price is very stable, but no evidence this will be the same for this one.

Its rather obvious that coins in babyshoes will have large movements. It the matter of market dept - or the absent of it. Even bitcoin is still a small child.

I have no doubt that HBN is one of the gems in the pot of cryptocoins.  Im curious how HBN staking formula will do in long term period (i mean in 3-5 years time). It attracts to keep more coins in your wallet, but creates a lot of excessive supply when there is no demand for coins and difficulty is low. Seems controversial strategy to me.
Digit PoW being driven by demand/difficulty and PoS smoothly pressuring PoW towards the end looks like a good idea to me.
Both have interesting formula for PoW/PoS.  HBN is already proved to be solid. Lets see how the Digit does.

PS. I guess this topic is not right for this kind of discussion. Perhaps we could continue interesting coins discussion somewhere else?
520  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crapcoins vs Promising Coins. Short Guide: How to tell the difference? on: May 12, 2014, 12:01:19 PM
jabo38 has very good points.

Is Bitcoin source code limited so that you cant develop on top of it? I dont know if it is.
The point is. Theres no need to invent the wheel twice if you can take the source and develop it further.

Sooner or later people will start to realize that coins with no innovativity are bad choice even for quick pump and dump. With all those coins,  there will be no pump to dump for!  Grin
