awesome work guys educating others on working with HBN. I have been busy this week. I was involved in the Blackcoin distribution so that took most my time up. I also have been working on two other trades that required a bit of focus and patience. I plan to do an end-of- month wrap up tonight hopefully.

hey everyone. Quick apology for my delayed update. I have been extremely busy so please understand that although you may see me online and posting in other threads, sometimes I am not available to post in this thread. I also have a 9-5 job plus my addiction to HBO, AMC, FX and Showtime doesn't help much.

Unrelated to HBN update:

MINT had my focus for a bit the month of February and I made out very well. Mined a bunch of MINT during the first week, bought a nice chunk @ 8 satoshis and dumped it all @ 28 satoshis. Coin devs need to understand that 20% APR is not attractive for a long term investment, when MINT can lose/gain over 100% in one day. I rolled some of my profits in Blackcoin, but lost about 1/3 on the downtrend. dumped the last of my BC at around 1200 satoshis. I was really just messing around with some of my profits, so all in all I came out ahead.

Anyways, lets move on to the Hobonickels.

February:

PoS coins mined: 6024.111203 HBN
Orphans: 14 blocks
Biggest PoS block: 874.411018 HBN

Year Total:

PoS coins mined: 6675.467624 HBN
Orphans: 18 blocks
Biggest PoS block: 874.411018 HBN

Account Size:

87401.186728  HBN

As you guys recall, I sold 3000 HBN when the coin rallied above 30000 satoshis. The book value on the 3000 HBN was slightly over 1 BTC. I still have 3675.46 HBN that have been PoS mined. The book value on these coins as of this post is 0.69966057 BTC using a price of 19036 Satoshis. Since the book value is less than 1 BTC, I will continue to hold these coins. I might not sell even if the PoS mined coins are valued over 1 BTC, as I still feel that HBN is undervalued.

HBN, along with other PoS coins, have held up very well against the BTC sell off. I still see PoS investing as a new concept and it might take some time for it to really catch on. It seems like there are alot of scamcoins coming out, trying to trick people into "investing" into utter trash. Most of these coins fail for many reasons, but one of those reasons are useless devs. So here is a quick way to know if a dev is any good.

Excellent Dev

Read through his posts and you will see that he is VERY active with hobonickels. Always there to give a helping hand, implementing features like coin-control and multiple wallets. (Everyone point and laugh at Feathercoin for implementing coin control hahaha). Also big things are going to be coming out with the release of 1.4v. Exciting stuff indeed you guys should check out the main hobonickels thread here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=303749.0

pulled off a successful scam. No innovation, no proof of being a long-standing member, produced a couple screenshots of a wallet and scammed people for a lot of BTC. Basically, if the name of the dev matches the name of the coin, chances are it's a scamcoin. People need to stop chasing the "next great coin" and look at the coins that have been around for a while. Research the devs, talk to the communities. Get involved. It breaks my soul to know that people are getting scammed by 12 year olds using MS Paint and copy/pasting scrypt coins, when they can be making sound investments into coins like Hobonickels. This allowing people like Trans to innovate, create and come up with new ideas that are beneficial to everyone involved in the crypto-community.

If you guys want to keep derping around and like getting scammed by these soul less scum bags please be my guest. But I hope that this journal can educate the few people here that are serious about making money and plan to stay in the game for the long haul.

On that note, Hobonickels been a successful investment so far. I am very happy with the results. Questions, Comments, Concerns please feel free to address them in this thread or PM me.

@tokyoghetto, what is your mining hashrate?

My GPU setup is down to 1100 khash. I have a bunch of GPUs laying around not even mining anymore. I am selling off most of my rigs. If I ever need some extra juice I hop over to leaserig.net and buy up some firepower. I am getting ready to switch over to ASICS when the blade-style miners come out. I have my finger on the trigger on some Gridseed miners but they have a ton of issues so I will wait for a more refined version to come out.

Coin devs need to understand that 20% APR is not attractive for a long term investment, when *insert coin name* can lose/gain over 100% in one day.

Quoted for truth.

I'm looking at you Mint, Blackcoin, Cachecoin, CryptoCash, etc, etc...Those devs should have went back and helped fix the old coins - but I gues there's no quick profit in those.

I wish so many would catch on and just adopt the NVC/HBN model. Balthazar & Tranz have the bugs worked out. It's not a shame to admit they did it right and incorporate the good stuff - that's what coding and open source is about.

You may want to checkout the pre-release of 1.4 (1.3.5.0) A lot of nice features. Clean up the orphans, and get better information about staking.

https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/4390-preparing-hbn-v14/?p=64557

Still some work to do for the full 1.4 release, but I thought it was important stuff to get out to users.

Enjoy!

Hey tokyoghetto, Thanks for this journal, its definitely piqued my interest. Been a lurker here for a short while and I finally have an unanswered question!

I still dont get how holding coins to generate interest encourages the use of the coin. Why should people adopt a PoS coin? What value does it give people, not investors? I mean, I can have all these coins, but if no ones wants them because they arent able to buy stuff with them whats the point?

I feel a lot of alt coins will have this problem in the future. Its too fresh a market right now for the top choices to emerge.

Thanks

Nice work tranz. The HBN client keeps getting better and better.

So today I finally have a chance to do some book keeping and a mid-month update. I started the month getting a ton of orphans. I used coin control to consolidate small blocks into bigger blocks. I used a new wallet to move the coins into. The total amount move is 9951.601078 HBN. The main wallet has 80321.389757 HBN for a grand total of 90272.990835 HBN. Sweet! I broke the 90000 mark. Now for the monthly stats.

March

PoS coins mined: 2771.796594
Orphans: too many for my lazy ass to count

Year to date:

PoS coins mined: 9447.264218
PoS coins sold: 3000 HBN
PoS coins held: 6447.264218 HBN

Account Size to date:

90272.990835 HBN

I am really tempted to sell some PoS mined coins and do something stupid with them. I have 6447.264218 HBN coins that have been PoS mined. This would give me 1.06266413 BTC if sold @ 16532 satoshis, the current best bid on Cryptsy. Something tells me that I should hold and compound these coins. HBN has been very stable while other alts have been getting crushed. I will have to wait a bit before I am sure about my next move, but not a bad return for the year so far.

This is a good question.

My simple answer would be.  PoS give you the ability to generate returns with virtually no hardware for mining.  So if you compare the investment made in your HBN for instance VS the investment made on a Mining rig, well the latter will depreciate and cost a lot to generate some BTC (electricity, maintenance, failure, blablabla). On the other hand PoS cost no electricity and you can mine it from your laptop... And can make an interesting amount of BTC for your buck.  Sure the investment is risky and could drop in price on the market... But as long as you hold, the price will rise up and then you could sell... That's why the community behind and the developement (core dev and promotion) of the coin is so important. Like tokyo said, HBN is pretty stable while other coins are droping in value... Do I need to say more?

Back to the PoS mining vs PoW mining

at current market price, tokyo's portfolio is valued at 14.82245768 BTC (9 464$ @ 638.50 USD/BTC)

that same portfolio generates ~1800 HBN / 10 days
this 1800HBN at current market price are worth : 0.29555267 BTC
it's about the equivalent of a 4 MH/s rig.

If you ask me, that's pretty damn cool Smiley
Plus if you consider that HBN is undervalued or has seen higher prices... that same 1800 HBN / 10 days could be worth much more when the market picks up again... This is why I think he wants to hold them a bit longer  Wink

So why people would want to spend it? I don't know ... but I know why I would want to buy some more  Grin

I just finished selling 3000 HBN at market on HBN. Wanted to feed the liquidity providers. got about .50 BTC. I am going to take this btc and plow it into a hail-mary trade. the remaining PoS mined coins I am going to compound until I get back to 1 BTC in value on PoS mined coins.

Thanks for the updates tokyo. Illuminating, as usual.

Also wanted to say the Hobonickels 1.4 wallet looks fantastic. Tranz really does put alot of dev work into his baby.  As far as I know it is the best PoS coin wallet around.

This is correct. Its one of the reasons why I am so torn about buying Scrypt Asics. To enter into that arena now means entering a hardware arms race. I enjoy mining and building rigs, but I can't stand the heat and noise, dealing with downed miners, spending money on RMA shipments. It has become a bit much. Yesterday I picked up a 7950 RMA I just received from MSI and its still sitting in the shipping package. I don't even have the heart to add it to my rig.

I still believe HBN and a select few PoS coins are undervalued. Its one of the reasons I hold most of my coins. I needed to sell those 3000 coins because its part of my trading plan and I need to sacrifice the coins to realize profits. In addition to that, I have a fiscal responsibility to sell those coins to other liquidity providers, as they are important part of the altcoin ecosystem.

QFT +1

Can't agree more about mining.

And as a PoS investor, we all have a responsibility to the system. Awesome.
