************ Dash Release Update : 11.2.17 ************************ - Fixed the "locking up" issue that would cause masternodes to go offline and general instability - Masternode list changes - Udjin - Better icon images - Crowning - Improved Chinese Translation https://www.dashpay.io/downloads/Mandatory? Protocol bump? it isn't mandatory, but you'd better update or you MN may crash. Not a protocol change tho.

Evan has some kind of kill switch too
It is called spork and it allows the holder of the keys (Evan?) to roll back code under spork without a hard fork. As more code is placed under spork the degree of centralization increases since coin features under spork can be taken out without a hard fork by the holder of the keys. One can see from the code, https://github.com/darkcoin/darkcoin/blob/master/src/spork.h that instant X and the masternode payments are under spork. Now here is an interesting question: What proportion of the code in a Decentralized Virtual Currency has to be under spork in order to turn it into a Centralized Virtual Currency, according to FinCEN http://www.fincen.gov/statutes_regs/guidance/html/FIN-2013-G001.html? The spork needs the consensus of the network (miners and MN operators MUST agree on the code) to be activated, how does it increase the degree of centralization?

Is the counter counting only operators on the latest version? Considering enforcement is on, it only matters those that are on the latest protocol as the others aren't getting paid. Thank you. Do you know how to activate the 5% of the MN incomes donation to development ?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=757255.msg10888788#msg10888788As far as I know Syscoin is ahead its competitors in the building of a decentralized marketplace. They have just entered the public beta testing. http://syscoin.market/#/I have a 'feeling' Syscoin is ahead here... but I agree... that marketing they have ( and notice in articles like that one ) we don't have.... so perhaps, besides smart Devs, Syscoin needs a marketing guru to step in....

We're very aware of this but also that we need to make sure our offering / distinction from SDC is clear when we put out those marketing materials. SDC does NOT store offers on the blockchain, you have to have your node up and running at all times to sell your goods. SYS stores offers on the chain, so long as ANY Syscoin node is up, your items can be purchased. MAJOR DIFFERENCE.Also, because SYS offers are backed by the chain they are also more secure in that they are harder to fake, forge, etc. There are other advantages to using SYS that I can't disclose yet due to ongoing partnership discussions but you're right- we do need to step up marketing now that "the race is on" but I still feel our tech is well ahead of the competition (decentralized-market wise). I'm working on rolling out the Blockmarket Beta3 web UI right now, give me a few hrs and I'll have it and the blog post about it up Also something to point out is that SDC is clearly targeting the 1% of the global market that wants to use their platform for (lets be honest)- "Darknet" purchases. While the SYS team makes no stipulations on what you can and can't sell on the SYS blockchain, nor do we have any control over it- we are really thinking and targeting SYS towards more mainstream use cases (the 99%)- thus integrations with Magento, Press2Shop, etc. Challenging eBay and Craigslist. Acting as a redundancy mechanism for mainstream merchants like Amazon- we WILL be approaching these parties when the time is right. These are the type of players you approach once you have a complete and holistic offering which Blockmarket is evolving into being along with the syscoin-api already publicly available in our GitHub repo. While it is inevitable that SYS will probably materialize in a DNM fashion in one form or another [first], that's not our main target. That being said, the flexibility the SYS decentralized market implementation offers through public, private, and curated markets is another value-add that the competition's implementation does not support. We're watching the competition closely; SDC has good marketing, but I think other competitors that store their offers on-chain are a much bigger threat... and there aren't that many of them out there We'll be reaching out to journos very soon now that beta 3 is more tightly integrated with the wallet, sorry but to me that motherboard article read like a paid plug piece for SDC. Good marketing for sure though! We're taking note, the value of marketing like that is not lost on us They are genuine guys tho.

how can p2p nodes be centralized lmfao, oh Joshuar...

it's implementation of gmaxwell's coinjoin is snotty at best
Can you explain the differences between gmaxwell's coinjoin and Darkcoin's mixing, thanks. Hi, can you please? Based on K. Atlas's review only the initial prototype of Darksend was based on gmaxwell's conjoin. Since RC4 Darksend+is still based on the CoinJoin protocol, but improves user convenience by turning the mixing process into a background, passive (but still online) process. This approach can be described as ahead-of-time (AOT) mixing, as opposed to the customary just-in-time (JIT) mixing typical of most CoinJoin implementations today. And, as far as I know, the traditional Coinjoin relies on a centralized unity, whilst Dash's mixing relies on p2p nodes (MNs). So saying darksend is a broken coinjoin implementation is a false statement, correct me if I am wrong.

... There is a key in the config file that identifies the node so you can start it remotely from the cold wallet. ...
You obviously don't know what a cold wallet is. A cold wallet is one in which the private keys are NOT stored on a machine with ANY access to or from ANY other machine at all. So, it is therefore IMPOSSIBLE to "start (a node) remotely from (a) cold wallet." It is huge failures in basic security concepts that make the D-coin akin to a mirage, and almost like a Trojan Horse, in my opinion. If you compromize the server running the daemon and get access to the MN private key you still won't be able to touch the 1k deposit. MN priv keys have nothing to do with addresses private keys. What huge failures in basic security are you referring to?

Did you "Email dan@syscoin.org with a signed message from your Syscoin wallet and your address for verification on the blockchain." ? @seb1234 hit the nail on the head, for legal reasons we need proof you're a SYS investor (that you hold >=1 SYS) before we can show any docs (as they are very pertinent to investors). If you send me ( dan@syscoin.org) a signed message from your SYS wallet including your address (which I'll check on the block explorer). I'll happily send you a password to the page to access the legal docs We'd love to make them more accessible, but must abide by UK procedures as well. sorry for the noob question but how can i send a signed message from my sys wallet? Open the wallet >> file > sign a message. Write the message and the address you want to sign and generate the signature. Then provide the signature + address to them.

The sync is really fast compared to other coins!
Lots of nodes thats why Its still a bit slow for my liking...I seem to remember reading something about a potential improvement to sync speeds in the future. Sadly I can't remember specifically what the proposal was. Take in mind that hardware specs of your machine take an important role in the process. Having a SSD improves a lot the sync performance.
