Thanks for advertising SC again, should have you on the CPF eh?

BTW it's not one million BLOCKS, it's one million coins will be generated in the genesis block. So you may want to get your handlers to proof read your statements before you release them. Smiley Also we aren't sure of the redistribution method yet, it may be that all addresses with a positive balance get sent their balance, hence all funds from the genesis block would be exhausted quickly.

Restarting with a new genesis block cleans the chain of the mess created by hackers and spammers and also allows the client to be easier to maintain due to not needing to support the old hackable protocol.

And when the SC network restarts it won't be vulnerable to 51% exploits and you'll be unable to do anything..... Probably has to hurt your ego that SC will be the only viable chain soon.... Smiley Keep up with the attacks, you're doing a good job destroying bitcoin.

Can any of you explain how is this network really getting shut down and what really happens when it gets restarted.
What if 2+ miners keep the rigs running and people do not download hes "new and improved" client?

The existing network is likely going to be hacked and toyed with , anyone wanting to trust their coins after block 35250 will be basically doing it with a prayer. Smiley

The reason people will download the new client is because it wan't be vulnerable to these hacks inherent in bitcoin.

If anyone is having trouble selling their SolidCoins the irc channel is buying them at fairly decent prices.
504  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ALERT] BitcoinEXpress says Solidcoin is next on: September 13, 2011, 08:00:08 AM
Do you even think about what you post? You will simply find a "Valid" point and restart the chain LOL
What about the block chain between the "Valid Point" and the actual point of attack? Just screw those blocks huh?

Well the exchanges, pools, etc will be notified and nothing will happen. You'll be working on a chain no one supports? Anyone past that point will know their coins are worthless so will stop accruing them. As soon as you generate just a few blocks it will be obvious and emails sent. You better work fast maestro!!

Here's a little something for you to chew on since Solidcoin has the exact same flaw as Geist Geld launched yesterday.

Except it's a little harder with SC isn't it? Checkpoints, higher difficulty, etc. BTC is also vulnerable to the same thing so not sure what you're trying to prove here.

With ArtForz exploit (before we optimized it) I was able to run the difficulty down to 0.6 in seconds, hold it there while I mined 20,000 blocks in 73 minutes without a single orphan. The chain creator Lolcust was powerless to stop it and no one but me could generate blocks. What would happen if I was able to hold Solidcoin down to a difficulty of say 4 and mine it for three days at 200-300 GH/s without orphans. You would be dealing with a block storm for days for starters as well as multi-forked chain.

Oh wow, you artificially lowered the difficultly on a fledgling chain at already low difficulty. Congrats. If only your mother gave you a bit of praise now and then you wouldn't be looking for a tiny amount of internet notoriety eh. lol.
505  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ALERT] BitcoinEXpress says Solidcoin is next on: September 13, 2011, 07:11:17 AM
Oh noes. Quick everyone sell your SolidCoins before they are worthless!!!  Grin

Unlike _every_other_chain_ SolidCoin will be the first to solve the 51% problem. Wouldn't really matter if it gets attacked, it will just stop the network temporarily as we move to include the fix, restart the chain from a valid point, everyone keeps their coins and we will be secure from all known attacks. In a way it would be good for the true SolidCoin supporters as the threat will likely weaken the price allowing them to get more coins before the restart.

SolidCoin is still in it's fledgling state so having the network shutdown for a few days isn't exactly that big a deal (unlike say BTC). But for namecoin/btc/i0/ixc I think this new issue is certainly the start of some interesting times... and it's just the beginning as I have identified other issues that can be used against them. And if I have it's likely others will soon too. I have no interest in attacking other chains though as I'd rather have the better product and "win" through that method. People hacking other chains do so because they don't have the skills to make a more secure chain, otherwise they'd be like me making one. Artforz, etc , have been in the bitcoin scene for over a year now and done nearly nothing to improve it. All artforz did was take some other guys opencl hashing code and use it to mine coins, pro styles there eh.
506  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Who is more arrogant? BitcoinEXpress or CoinHunter? on: September 13, 2011, 02:21:28 AM
To be fair, if it can be done, it should be done, so that we can figure out a way to fix/ protect against it.  Even if he's out there for profit, there should be a way to protect against this....

If not, then I guess we lose... time to go back to playing progressquest instead of bitcoin quest...

Better to have one of our own attack us (and tell us about it), rather than some random and have us all very confused.

It's been known about since the start of Bitcoin, there are also test networks for such things. There is only one purpose for attacking "live" chains, and anyone defending them is pretty stupid in my opinion.
507  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Namecoin attack threat - Please withdraw your Namecoins ASAP on: September 13, 2011, 01:47:04 AM
The fact these "hackers" are allowed to post here even though some of them have already caused monetary loss to others is surprising. By helping facilitate people known to have done such things the forum owners themselves could be liable for damages. And I'd advise anyone affected to date by such things to look into it.
508  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] New Solidcoin Client Fully Open-Source! on: September 09, 2011, 06:39:25 AM
I've created a thread on the SolidCoin forum that you "open source" client people may want to vote "no" on .

Updated main post with newer screenshot.

Maybe you could fill me in on what I did exactly that warrants a ban.

Subtle trolling? If you think it's wrong give me a PM.
510  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CoinHunter now censoring posts on SolidCoin forums on: September 08, 2011, 03:21:03 PM
Yes but you call logical point driven fact based criticism an insult and editing comments to change them to what you like is really beyond what I would call "moderation".

I personally haven't edited any comments, I simply delete offending posts until the person writes a post that doesn't contain insults or other offending material. If they keep posting in the same manner they get banned. If you or others have hard time being civil on the internet then it's not the place for you basically.
511  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SolidCoin 1.10 Preview on: September 08, 2011, 09:16:18 AM
PM who? What is your irc username?

RealSolid on freenode.
512  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SolidCoin 1.10 Preview on: September 08, 2011, 07:21:57 AM
Except those of us that are banned from the IRC channel. :p

PM me if you think you shouldn't be or want to get access back.
513  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CoinHunter now censoring posts on SolidCoin forums on: September 08, 2011, 07:17:12 AM
Yeah unfortunately for some the forum is moderated. Luckily everyone else appreciates that Tongue . Criticism is fine but when people join and start throwing insults at others then you will be moderated. Quite simple , don't be an asshat and you won't get cut. If you want to insult me and/or others, then do it here. Smiley
514  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / SolidCoin 1.10 Preview on: September 08, 2011, 07:13:29 AM

So as everyone should know work has been going on with the new 1.10 client. This new client has quite a few new features and hundreds of internal differences from the previous SolidCoin.

These include :-

*) Multiple wallet support. Including changes to API to support them for businesses. Still compatible with the old API through the selection of a "Default" wallet.
*) Networking improvements designed to improve efficiency of the connected nodes
*) Multithreaded rewrite. Hundreds of lines have been rewritten to provide a much smoother multithreaded experience.
*) Cleanup of the code. Restructured parts of it to allow it be extended more easily in the future
*) 64bit support on Windows
*) More GUI enhancements and features.

If you want to get access to a beta before the public release join IRC and wait for the announcement.

Comments and suggestions can be given at the SolidCoinTalk forum
515  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Discussion between SolidCoin Founder and Gavin Andresen on: September 06, 2011, 03:40:01 AM
No, Gavin told you you should have listened. He was right. The network wouldn't have even been attackable if you weren't such an arrogant prick.

That's wrong, the same attack (and others artforz is aware of) are possible with Bitcoin, at relatively little expense. The reason artforz decided to attack SolidCoin was due to his own ego, dislike for me and the project and the fact he is malicious in nature. Artforz "warning" me is also a bit of a joke, he sent me about 5 lines of text, mainly talking about 51% attacks. I simply said the "extra" 51% attacks are irrelevant because at 51% you're dead anyhow. This somehow get's translated into me "fobbing him off" and "not listening" . It's a bit of a joke.

I don't like a few people it doesn't mean I want to harm them. That is the difference between a professional and a hacker who couldn't care less. Anyone cheering on the SC attacks is just asking to be proved a fool when bitcoin is attacked in the same manner.

In regards to Gavin, if he didn't come to the channel ignorant about what had been going on with regards to attacks to SolidCoin and some of bitcoin developers comments and attitudes things would have gone a lot better. It was fathers day that day, and I had to spend part of my day away from my family dealing with more shit from a hacker. He was asking me a favour and insulted me in the process. Obviously bitcoin supporters won't be happy with the conversation because I didn't act like Jesus entered the channel but I do feel the lead developer of Bitcoin shouldn't be ignorant about what is going on in his own "scene". And he should try at least to use his influence with people he knows.

516  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Discussion between SolidCoin Founder and Gavin Andresen on: September 06, 2011, 03:03:45 AM
More +1 Gavin praise.  I had not read all that shit until now.  Even giving the benefit of the doubt to RealSolid on how he initially went into the conversation, his not accepting the fact that Gavin does not = the Bitcoin supporters nor control them, well there you go, the rest of the conversation is pretty much moot after that.

I understand Gavin has very little influence or control over the other developers. What I didn't appreciate was Gavin telling me to "listen to" the hacker which attacked the network. I had already fixed the issues which artforz was taking advantage of to disrupt service to thousands of people. If you can't see that it is indeed offensive to come into a channel and tell someone that the guy attacking the network you support is smart and worthy of being listened to then I can't help you.

If artforz had any decency about him he would have simply left our discussion where it was (about 5 lines worth). Instead he went malicious and people are congratulating him on it? The mind boggles.

When bitcoin starts being attacked will the same people be congratulating the FBI or SomethingAwful trolls for "strengthening" the network?

Run run run!!! Wink

I wonder if the price of bitcoin will now drop b/c everyone cashing out their SC to btc to their local currency. Just a thought.

Strangely they are also still allowing deposits? This company is going nowhere fast. Running SolidCoin on a slow VPS with limited storage and then complain when it crashes and needing to have their "tech team" look at it.... not very professional.
518  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] New Solidcoin Client Fully Open-Source! on: September 06, 2011, 02:48:13 AM
Oh, and if you think the orphan block handling "improvements" (aka completely disabling it) in 1.031 doesn't hurt anything (well, other than nodes not catching up to the current block under certain circumstances)...

Under certain circumstances. Heh. You could say this with many things currently in Bitcoin.

I'm adding orphan storage to 1.10 but doing it properly,  ie will only store a certain amount on a rotating buffer to get around attacks people like you have created. The same issue you're talking about exists if you're flooding a node with shit, so it's not a complete solution is it? The reason I didn't implement a more thorough solution is I wanted to protect the users from the attacks you and others have created immediately, which it has done to this point.

grep your debug.log for "getblocks".
Notice some nodes appear to be sending a GetBlocks for *every single block they get* while downloading the chain?
Notice the block #s are nowhere near the "bad evil hacker" blocks?
You got 3 guesses which versions are exhibiting that broken behaviour.

Broken behaviour? A few extra getblock requests isn't going to hurt anything and in a lot of instances increases the speed of initial block downloading. Your FUD about chain forks is ridiculous. The people who are on the latest block (most of the network outside initial downloaders) won't be affected by orphan storage removal. In instances where multiple blocks are generated fast they still get the blocks quickly, it's just not as entirely efficient as 1.10 will be with it.
519  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] New Solidcoin Client Fully Open-Source! on: September 06, 2011, 02:39:33 AM
SolidCoin isn't poor. You're just pathetic.

So someone pathetic created something which isn't poor? Nice. Smiley
520  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] SolidCoin - new and improved block chain. Secure from pools on: September 06, 2011, 02:28:25 AM
Pretty sure I was around 90 MB yesterday (24 hrs ago). now 119 MB.

Some people are seeing that folder consume a few gigabytes. However the actual "blocks" which are stored in blk0001.dat give you the size of the chain at the moment. You can clear the "database" directory and __db files after shutting down the client if it hasn't done so for you already and it will free up the space.
