I don't know what usually happens in the USA, but here your bank account would suddenly be empty.
Refusing to pay is probably not the same as tax evasion.

In the USA, they'll empty your bank account and you'll end up in a prison cell, like Irwin Schiff.
502  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do people think income tax is ok? on: January 14, 2014, 09:09:53 PM
I said nobody is forcing you to pay taxes and they're not regardless of the definitions you provide. If you don't want to pay taxes you can either A) Not work, b) Earn under the tax threshold, C) Move to somewhere that doesn't require taxes) D) or don't get caught not paying taxes.

Items A), B), and C) aren't valid examples because generally there is no tax imposed on you in these situations and therefore no tax is due.  Item D) implies that a tax is due but isn't being imposed on you because the would be imposer doesn't realize that a tax is due.  What about when a tax is due and is being imposed on you?  What happens if you simply refuse to pay it?

Then yours isn't a valid example either. Name me one place that sends out the police to lock you up for not paying the taxes you don't owe? If you owe a tax then you owe a tax. Nobody is forcing you into a position where you owe any taxes in the first place. You make that decision yourself.

And D) Then it's not being forced or enforced is it?

I wasn't providing an example.  I was asking a question.  The question is about taxes that are owed and being imposed on you.  The question has nothing to do with taxes that aren't owed, because a tax that isn't owed, isn't a tax.  (If someone sends me a bill that says I don't owe them anything, then it isn't really a bill.)  Those first three examples you provide are ways of avoiding taxes, which is not the same as refusing to pay taxes that are owed and being imposed on you.  In this situation, if you refuse to pay, people with guns will eventually be sent out to lock you up.

Ridiculous comparison. Nobody is putting a gun to your head and forcing you to pay taxes.

What does happen when you don't pay taxes?

You don't get thrown in a gas chamber that's for sure.

You're changing the discussion.  Elwar didn't say that people who don't pay taxes are thrown in a gas chamber.  He was pointing out that people do things they wouldn't otherwise do--like enter a gas chamber or pay taxes--because they are forced to against their will.

I think you will find he changed the discussion, but I'll reiterate: Nobody is putting a gun to your head and forcing you to pay taxes.

And I'll ask again.  What does happen when you don't pay taxes?  Notice I'm not asking what DOESN'T happen.  There are literally an unlimited number of things that don't happen.  My question is what DOES happen?

You want to know what does happen when you don't pay taxes?

I already know what happens when you don't pay taxes.  I want to see if you know.

508  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The most compelling Bitcoin presentation I've ever seen: Andreas M. Antonopoulos on: January 14, 2014, 02:53:41 AM
My only advice would be to not use derogatory terms for describing the FED, WU etc. Objectively explaining improvements over the established system is enough. Sure you can throw a joke at them but don't call them crooks, imo.

I disagree.  There's no reason to sugarcoat anything.  We need more people who aren't afraid to "call a spade a spade".
509  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Name the 0.0001 BTC unit - Final Poll on: January 11, 2014, 05:36:37 PM
And the winning name, 29.3% of the votes to the 24.8% of the runner-up:

One bit = 0.0001 BTC

The 0.1 BTC prize belongs to jakioflap for the initial proposal.

The acceptance of the name is still up in the air, of course; the final competition wasn't far behind vote-wise.

Congratulations on the win!

So 1 bit = .1 millibits Huh

Why do people think income tax is ok?

Well, some don't earn enough to pay much, if any, in income tax so they aren't really bothered by it.  In fact, they are the ones that tend to be on the receiving end of the income redistribution.

If everyone was required to pay their "fair share" and we all had the same flat tax on our income, the idea of an income tax would probably be done away with in favor of a flat sales tax.
511  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam Report: Projects on: January 11, 2014, 04:13:03 AM
Hi guys,

I am looking for a loan of 100 BTC, this does not have to be all from one person if multiple people are willing to lend to me.
I realise I am a new member (only registered yesterday) however I have been lurking and reading for a while and my reason for registering is for posting this post.
Whilst I know I am trustworthy with the amount of scamming I have read about going on here recently and the anonymity of bitcoin I understand this may be not easy to believe. I am willing to do anything required to prove I am legit - open to suggestions on that one.

I would like this loan to be over 28 days with 10% interest (negociable) with 4 weekly repayments, again terms negociable.

I am happy to answer any/all questions.

Thanks for your time.

I can fund 100 BTC and agree with the terms of repayment.  However, to ensure you're not a bot, I request a pic of yourself holding a piece of paper with your forum name on it, with a shoe on your head before I send.

lol i am not desperate enough to send a pic of a shoe on my head lol
i am legit and i appreciate its hard to believe but I am - any way i can verify that i will

He didn't sound too excited about taking a pic with a shoe on his head when asked to do so after requesting his first 100 BTC loan.  He may have known that his pictures were published online by the press and would make it easier to identify him.
512  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam Report: Projects on: January 11, 2014, 03:49:48 AM
One thing that doesn't fit: that news article was posted as early as August 2011 and mentioned him going to jail for 10 months, but he registered an account here and began posting in February 2012.

Perhaps he was released early or put on probation.  I wonder if his release date is a matter of public record.
513  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: I have 23 Bitcoins I want to sell. on: January 10, 2014, 12:36:45 AM
I send him the pictures for the western Union transaction
And he not want to send me the bitcoin

Mind if we see those pics too?

will you please show us your btc address with 14BTC

Sure, it's scattered across a few but here.

I think that covers 14, i have thousands, i just don't advertise those addresses publicly. I hope you understand why.

Edit: Removing addresses as it seems as someone has pointed out below that someone used an address for something on reddit, more than likely a typo on their part, but none the less i dont want to hear a ton of crap from the peanut gallery of idiots who think they are geniuses around here, as can clearly be seen again below, my address was generated by my armory client yesterday for 2 transactions and there were no donations of anything into it.

Oh absolutely, I'm sure it was just a typo.   Grin

lol so i was right about this guy all along shocking lol

Yeah, he got a little sloppy and reused a BTC Address that was used to beg for donations on reddit last month.  The original reddit post was deleted, but that other site I linked to had an archived copy of it.
515  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Vs. Paypal - and PayPal is getting sued. on: January 09, 2014, 10:26:30 PM
Please post an address for donations.

Hey guys, thanks for the support, I wasnt really looking for donations. The minute someone starts seeking money for something a conversation usually turns from being productive into a whole other conversations about "scam, rippoff, blah blah, troll some more etc." Im sure you get the idea. I will post an address for now for people who want to send donations for whatever, but i do have to re-state, as of now, the legal team is not charging me anything so donations would be more on principal than anything. Also if posting a donation address starts to take this thread off topic and in another direction, please understand that i will take down the address. I do not want this to turn into one of "those" threads.

Again, thank you all for your support, we are patiently awaiting confirmation from the post office that the letter has been delivered and signed for. I will be sure and update you all once that happens as that is when the 2 weeks to take action clock begins.

(also on a side note, i had one of our buyers get scared and back out on a Round 1 batch 2 ( march delivery) BA x-3 machine because of paypal freezing their funds as well for sending us payment through paypal. If anyone is interested i can contact BA and see if they will allow an address transfer or something if you want to buy it. Just message me)

Donation address: 1A8anGihV3pvHeuhqzGsAjt2S71WY2qea4

Why the sudden change of heart?  There was no issue with some poor woman using another BTC Addresse that you claim to control in this thread:

How much btc you want exchange. You can accept WU and escrows

I really dont know any escrow people and really dont trust ANYONE. If you can show me a way to do escrow that does not involve a 3rd human being i am all for it. But for all i know, the person you want me to "escrow" with could be your partner in crime. Not saying you personally if ya know what i mean. just that someone could do that, and i am sure it has been done before. If you can show me a way 1000000000000000000000% that escrow actually makes a transaction safe without having a 3rd human in the middle i am open to it for sure, but whats great about bitcoin for me is no middle man, which a 3rd human would be.

As for price, i always use preev.com one of the only places that i know of that averages all the exchanges together rather than hold people hostage to what a single particular exchange is doing at the moment. A person could make a killing some days on just the exchange differences from minute to minute between them BTC-e $749, Camp BX, $809, Bitstamp $800, MT Gox. $892. so i just go with the average from preev.com Currently $819

Guess I need to quote this post too, now that he's started deleting and editing his posts.

I googled that first BTC Address that you listed and this site was the top hit:

I'm sorry what is that? As you can clearly see here: http://imgur.com/gbTCgWe That address is a perminant address that i generated with my armory client yesterday to transfer some funds into. So if you are implying that i am a woman. Or that i received any donations your smoking crack there my friend.

I'm sure it's just a coincidence that this poor woman was using the same BTC Address as you.  Nothing for anyone to be concerned about.  Kiss

please use a forum escrow this is to protect both parties dont say i didnt warn you

As i have stated, i would prefer to do this as a face to face transaction for someone locally, with a 3rd party human in the middle i still have no protection as the escrow party could be a friend of the scammer for all i know.

yea a trusted forum escrow that deals with hundreds of thousands of dollars a day is going to risk his forum reputation for a few of your bitcoins sorry but thats HIGHLY unlikely

True, but it was also HIGHLY unlikely 5 years ago when i started mining bitcoins that it was going to make me a milti millionaire, and here i am today with a net worth of over 75 million usd. so my interpretation of what is probable or likely as you put it has changed a lot. i have sold off a ton of bitcoin in the past few months via just posting on craigslist and never been ripped off F2F. The one and only time, and not even my own BTC i helped a friend sell a few coins online he got conned.

I would rather not make this a debate thread on escrow, i dont trust a 3rd person any more than the person i am selling to, or more than they trust me. So i guess i will remove the Western Union option and stick to my guns on Local transaction only.

Quoting this for the record.
