I think we arent quite there yet, because Bitcoin is still fairly hard to use and most people dont understand why they need it.
Give it a year, I think the Bitcoin world will look a lot different and a lot more people will understand why they want some.
Agreed.

Let's say the presale is over an people got their emunies at $0.1 a piece. What prevents other people from putting in buyorders at $0.0001 ? Obviously there would a demand that nobody would be willing to fill.
So my question is what triggers inflation? Would you guys fill the demand at $0.0001 and inflate the whole currency by giving other ppl more?
I don't understand this part of eMu either, can someone provide an explanation?

Oh... some of what I published was 'draft' material, so I suppose that's fair. Yeah, after reading some of the comments left by raters for other writers - things like (incomplete) and giving a 30, I went back and deleted all bookmark pages like the one for a chapter in progress! The rating is supposed to be for the author, with a random article given as an "example" of work, but it wouldn't surprise me if those scores actually reflected the article linked more than all the articles combined...some writers are just so prolific! EDIT: can I just say, I god damn love python: http://dvccountdown.blisteringdevelopers.com/devtome/31/hunterbuntercan do it in the url so you can link it directly now...took about 1 minute to write and 3 minutes to test. (Yours would have been http://dvccountdown.blisteringdevelopers.com/devtome/31/matt608 if I'd thought of it sooner) It's completely reasonable for an incomplete work to not receive the highest rating, as there is clearly room for improvement, but if I may say so my incomplete novel draft had some really good chapters in it (mixed in with the not so good ones), and overall I would say is much better than some of my complete stories which I wrote a long time ago and published to Devtome in the same round. So it does seem a little unfair to get a such low rating automatically for incompleteness when there is some really good stuff included in that incomplete story. E.g. chapter 11 I am quite pleased with: http://devtome.com/doku.php?id=hengemaster_novel#chaper_11

I thought I published over 50k words this round but only got 29 shares. I could be wrong because I can't remember if I published Hengemaster Novel ( http://devtome.com/doku.php?id=hengemaster_novel) in this round or in the round before. Can someone please check? Thanks.

I'm now offering 1000 / 1500 DVC to each person who votes to add DVC / BTC to Cryptsy: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=408884EDIT: if anyone wants to donate DVC to help keep this alive (or so I can increase the reward - I want 1000 people voting for it on Cryptsy) 1M8A5WqBuQYU8yBfWeEp9jZTMzCfHxv5Bg I was the second person to vote: 1GkHzAqYr6dw6ze9Fd3NuKAFnGRwH3gbZT

Anyone know why people are dumping their DVC?

Maybe this is an opportunity to justify a hard fork with anonymity built into the core protocol as well as the solution to this issue, such as Proof of Stake mining or requiring every other block to be mined with Scrypt?

We will be providing consulting, advising entrepreneurs, and providing investment capital to expand their ventures.
We will be providing the following products and services to our clients.
Consulting Cannabis Entrepreneurs Opening Cannabis Dispensaries Opening Cannabis Cultivation Centers Opening Cannabis Evaluation Centers Selling Supplies; Retail and/or Wholesale Providing Cannabis Education Services
This is an interesting proposal but I need more details. You mention you will be providing investment capital to expand your clients ventures, but you didn't list this as one of the services you will be providing. How much of your funds will go towards investing in other cannabis start-ups? When you say you will be "opening cannabis dispensaries, cultivation centres and evaluation centres", what does "opening" actually mean? If you wont continue to run these centres, what role will you have in them? Also, what is your role with the 4 gardens you have operating already? Feel free to PM me answers to these questions if you prefer.

I'm surprised by the bearishness here. I have 80% confidence that by half way through 2014 bitcoin will be over $1500 and lets call it 65% confidence it will be over $2000 half way through the year, and 30% confidence it will be over $3000 at half way. By the end of 2014 I expect the price to be between $5000-$10000.

The OP has a point. A big part of bitcoin's brilliance is its distribution mechanism. That's half the problem of launching a new currency, distribution, and mining is a beautiful solution to that problem.

We need giveaway threads to be put in its own subforum immediately. That should clear up about half the spam.

What if, when you mine a block, as well as receiving coins you also receive a code that can be used to unlock something/gain access to something.
Maybe the codes could be sold and traded like the coins.
Maybe the codes could be used to create a decentralised hash power for rent network, allowing people who don't have mining rigs (such as myself) to easily rent hashing power from the network, providing the miners with another way to earn from their rigs. Each rig mining this alt coin could generate a fresh code every 24 hours. Old codes expire automatically. If you sell or give your code to someome else it would allow them to 'take over' your mining rig for 24 hours, allowing them to point it at a coin of their choosing. OR maybe the miner should be able to choose how long their code is valid for, then it could be sold down the line to multiple people.
Or maybe many other things could be done with these codes?
Maybe this is a bad idea I don't know.
Anyone have any relevant thoughts?

I hate to say it but I have some level of agreement with the OP about there being a coming alt coin crash. IMO pretty much all of the alts are in a huge bubble, we don't seriously think these clones will ever rival bitcoin. As people have said its the greater fool theory in action. It's not exactly the same with all alts though, some do offer 'innovation' or at least, changes to bitcoin. When bitcon gets on its next big move up some time next year there will be a big altcoin crash as everyone dumps their alts to get back on the 'real' crypto. After that the alts will rise again.

I think it would be better to continue the discussion here.
As a donator/investor I'd be happy to be able to read the discussion about solutions to these issues here, and I'm sure everyone else who donated/invested would be too.
