Never heard of it or read about it on this forum. Is there no information from a web search?

GreenAddress is safe and legit , this is the official discussion here in the forum :

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=521988.0

some features :

- Transactions limits
- Gentle, unlock funds if GreenAddress should disappear
- BIP38 nfc and qrcode login
- Full independent opensource client side blockchain data verification via electrum network
....

The forum was down briefly this morning, though aside from the downtime last week it's been pretty stable for me. I guess it may be up and down if theymos is working behind the scenes trying to fix the problems we've been having.

I've noticed a few cannot connect to SMF database messages over the past week
But the frequency and downtime seem to be shorter but still fairly frequent
Guess there are still some kinks

Edit: Thanks Redsnow good to know

i think who the recent offline periods, was done for reindex search data.
now, search function it is enabled again!!!

but i'm not sure...

i don't found any theymos posts who talk about recent problems.

Maybe  try to read these posts :

No problem you are welcome !

I sometimes get 503 errors at random times.

It sucks when you waste time writing a long answer just to see the 503 error when you click submit

A simple Bad gateway error (maybe 502). Maybe theymos is fixing some  DB errors before migrate in the new forum software.
5143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The long addresses are really annoying with all the letters and numbers... on: February 02, 2015, 06:25:41 PM
Bitcoin addresses should only be used ONCE.

Bitcoin addresses are designed to be single use addresses for sending payments to your wallet. Though technically they can be reused as many times as you want, doing so significantly impacts your privacy and the security of your coins and it has a signifcant impact on the privacy of everyone you directly transact with and a small impact on the privacy of everyone using Bitcoin. Therefore you should never reuse an address and always use a fresh address for every transaction. You may notice many wallets (such as Bitcoin Core and the new beta version of electrum) are now "hiding" used addresses and now have a receive tab that gives you a new address each time you want to receive coins, this is to discourage address reuse.

Such a solution as you are describing will only encourage address reuse, which is bad for the above reasons. However there are things like genjix's stealth address implementation which essentially allows the sender to generate a new address in the receivers wallet, that when combined with a keyserver of some sort could implement this in a safe way, and I believe one day we will be using something like this and Bitcoin addresses will no longer be a thing the user even sees. The whole idea of a Bitcoin address is very flawed.

Yes only for the question of anonymity , but maybe some person doesn't want to use every time a new bitcoin address and prefer to keep/use only one (like a merchant).
5144  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What should I build for my next Hackathon? on: February 02, 2015, 06:18:45 PM
Hey!

A hackathon is coming up, and I was wondering what I should build.

I want it to be something open source so that everyone can benefit from it.

Please let me know if you have some ideas you would like implemented!

Thanks.

Try the reverse of BitPay, i.e. accept FIAT and Pay in Bitcoin. It would be very handy for merchants across the globe.

That's a very great idea...  but I think it will be very difficult to make it due to the "volatility of the bitcoin price".

There is also the issue of chargebacks.

Hmmm... yeah you're right. It will be "impossible" to make it...

5146  Economy / Speculation / Re: Next block halving reward ? Price going ... on: February 02, 2015, 06:12:26 PM
By the next block halving reward which will be 12.5 BTC as a reward (going to happen in late 2016 , early 2017) instead of 25 BTC (now)
Where the price is going , logically the price should go UP of course since there is less supply . How much the price could reach and can we see another scenario ? (price going down)

"logically" only if demand remains the same.

I think and hope it would, but I just wanted to call out that point.

Maybe before  the halving I think there will be an "huge dump" ..... and obviously after a little pump.

...irrefutable video evidence.

Lol oh really?

Irrefutable evidence of what? That the guy can dick around and not show his "hand carving" skills on the high level of detail his other pieces sold had?

Lol  Grin

Sorry, I should have added the caveat "irrefutable if you have a functioning brain stem". Regardless there are more videos on the way and here you all are STILL leaping at conclusions before all the evidence is in. Whatever is most entertaining to you, even if it means harassing users daily for weeks. If you had anything better to do we wouldn't be seeing multiple daily posts from you or the 4chan brigade. Just admit you are here to entertain yourself, and you could give a fuck less about anyone or anything on this forum.

Don't you have anything better to do than whinge incessantly about this? That's all you contribute to this forum now aside from bumping your own listings. You've got to be either trolling yourself or absolutely deluded if you think butchering a piece of wood to create something I'd be mildly impressed by a teenager making in his High School woodwork class is 'irrefutable evidence'. There seems to be only a handful of people who are buying WC's bullshit including you and two of those have been confirmed to be alts of his. Until he actually shows a video of him actually carving the coins he claims to be able to do nobody in their right mind is buying his grossly exaggerated claims. The only thing he's proved so far is he's an amateur woodworker. Amateur being the keyword here.

Exactly , I think everyone of us can make the same "hand carved" works... It is obviously that his pieces not worth ~ 14 k dollars.

I think the unique problem here is that WoodCollector didn't  "hand carved" his original pieces , and advertised as "hand carved".

The original cheap ones he sold that are on the macro crude scale like the video demonstration are handmade with power tools and machine made stencils.

The expensive ones with very micro detail that he sold for thousands of dollars are definitely laser made.

No human can hand carve a single perfect circle or a single perfect right angle. His works of arts have several thousand geometrically perfect right angles, perfect circles, perfect spheres and etched to a uniform depth across the entire work of art. ImFuckingPossible by hand.

The video shows nothing to dispel the use of a laser engraver.

~BCX~

Yes you are right , indeed I've seen all the videos and at the end my personal opinion is :

He didn't hand carved nothing , he always used dremel & other  tools.

These are real hand carved pieces :

@ducatitalia , news about the situation ? Does he repay you or not ?

This is the latest communication from oscarftw from Jan 29:
Gonna fix this soon. Having some difficulties will be closed tonight or tomorrow I guess

Hoping he comes through---Would be such a shame to ruin a senior level account over this small loan.  I've offered to try and work something out to assist...awaiting his response..

Ok , I've left him a negative feedback ... that's very bad. I hope he will repay you.

I don't know , are you using  the google dns ? (try , but I don't think this is the solution). However for me the forum works properly.

Good catch CanaryInTheMine , I've left him a negative feedback.

Amazing :

Well, maybe I'll let them keep a few bitcoins and let them know I found them, but there will be one hell of a transaction fee for my services.  Or if I found a wallet with something like 47,000 bitcoins in it, I'll tell the owner I just decided to retire from PC repair work, and their computer is my last job, and it's free.

This is unlikely to happen, most of the people who call me for PC repair are too ignorant to understand the concept of Bitcoins.

And finding nude photos on a computer is actually pretty rare for me.  I usually spend little to no time looking through their photos, I just Copy and Paste the photo folders to a hard drive in my testing PC and them back their drive after the work is finished so I can save them from the non-running PC and be their hero.

Most photos I do see in the folders are something like 300 photos of their 3 year old little brat at the park, or their aunt Wanda's trip to the Spam festival.  I have no interest in looking at them.

I think all the DB will  be transferred in the new forum.
