521  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bithumb under attack ? on: June 21, 2018, 01:45:40 PM
condolence to those who have lost their money, this is why I don't recommend using an exchange as a way to store btc/altcoins.
No customer will lose their money because Bithumb promised to cover all the stolen coins using their own funds.

This bad news only make the market crash a few hours and the price of crypto back to bullish at the moment,  look like crypto community still strong and bullish trend will continue, although any bad news but the price still uptrend and this is good thing for crypto market.
Yes, the hacking only caused a slight drop from $6750 to $6650 yesterday, perhaps the full compensation policy minimized the effect. There was also the Tether FUD clarification that brought the price back up to $6800.
522  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Twitch now accept crypto! (AMAZON platform) on: June 21, 2018, 01:28:22 PM
If you read the article you would know that it wasn't Twitch that accept crypto, Streamlabs did. Streamlabs make it possible for streamers to accept crypto tips. So this isn't directly related to Twitch, let alone Amazon.
523  Economy / Economics / Re: Is the government really scary? on: June 21, 2018, 12:58:43 PM
Many people say the government is not interested in cryptocurrency. Many people think the government has prohibit
crypto to protect investors from risks. Maybe in your country, that's true. But in some countries, especially developing countries, the government just wants to rob your assets. They rob publicly, lawfully and as much as possible. they are really bandits.I'm not afraid what they do. Because we have many ways to fight them. But this world is not as simple as you think. They can kill you if you are demonstrating.
You can ask any vietnamese that : Do you support your government ? I bet 99% answer is never. 1% remaining I'm sure they are goverment employee or their family. Wink
The answer will be different, depends on your country. I wouldn't say my government (Indonesian) is a bandit and robbing people assets. I don't see the whole government as one bad party. There are people working for the government who use their power to take advantage of others: corruption, embezzlement, nepotism, etc. but they do it individually, for the sake of their own. There are also good people in the government who work with their heart, honestly contributing to their country and the people.

The reason government not regulating crypto is reasonable and I understand why they don't make it legal yet. Crypto is a new thing, a technological breakthrough with a potentially big impact on the world economy. Regulating these things take time and my country isn't the one who likely take the first lead to regulate crypto. As long as the govt is not prohibiting crypto ownership and exchange, I'm good.

526  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What is the point of bitmex? on: June 20, 2018, 01:57:05 PM
Bitmex is not a "normal" crypto exchange where you can trade a coin with another coin. It's a derivative exchange, you can only trade BTC and several altcoins futures contracts in Bitmex. All contracts are bought and sold in Bitcoin, that's why you don't see other deposit/withdraw option other than Bitcoin. You can't deposit/withdraw USD, everything is in BTC.

Has anyone used this exchange do you like it?
It is one of the top Bitcoin derivative exchanges out there. Other exchanges that offer derivative contract includes Bitfinex, OKCoin, and 1Fox.
527  Economy / Speculation / Re: This price drop has occured before on: June 20, 2018, 01:34:01 PM
For the last 4 months there's been a lot of FUD and a lot of people stopped believing in the better future. What happened to bitcoin, when it went down from $20k to $6k seemed unique and frightening. And yet it isn't. During November 2013 bitcoin went extremely up in terms of the price and topped at about $1.2k. However, 2014 wasn't a good year for bitcoin, because it dropped from that high price down to $250 at the beginning of 2015, so I might've looked back than that bitcoin would never be great again.
But as we all know not only bitcoin recover (it took the coin another year to do that), but it also went up 20x since then. This year we have another very similar price drop. The only difference is that the market capitalization is a lot bigger and that lots of people care about what is happening with bitcoin nowadays.
So we really should not be afraid so much, since we have a historical example of bitcoin getting out of a similar situation before.
I've got to agree that the "correction" is not unique, but there's nothing more frightening than losing 60% of your investment within months. This is the way Bitcoin saying "hello" to new adopters haha. There's no reason to believe that Bitcoin will recover and make new ATH like it did in 2013-2017. It's just another hopium people used to ease with their losses. 2017 ATH was fueled by futures hype, the market was going crazy because of it. Today the futures market are still there, yet the price is back to $6K range. If there's any, what kind of development could bring Bitcoin back to $20K? I just can't think any. Maybe this is the fair price for Bitcoin.
528  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-06-20] BTC to fall after massive $30 million HACK heist in South Korea on: June 20, 2018, 11:15:08 AM
Usually when a hack is publicized, the effects would already manifest in the market within minutes, but apparently this one one hasn't and it's been hours. Glad to know that Bithumb would take responsibility of the losses their users may have incurred during the said hack so all is good.
There's a slight drop from $6750 to $6550 right after the hack announced. But yeah, the effect was not as bad as we expect. I was expecting a dump to sub $6K. I guess it has to do with the full reimburse that BitHumb will cover.

You may have the best application service in the world but if all you do is  ignore cyber security don't blame Bitcoin.
They have been the largest South Korean exchange for some time, pretty sure they didn't simply ignore their security. Setting up a hackproof system maybe not as easy as it sounds.
529  Economy / Speculation / Re: What do you think about the current market? on: June 19, 2018, 04:56:07 AM
The current market has a lot of good news. However, the bitcoin price is not only not increasing as expected but also continuously decreasing, causing many people to lose confidence in it. Bitcoin prices continuously dropped from the highest level near $ 20,000 to nearly 6,500. $ current. Do you think there is an organization that is making bitcoin to buy in?
Obviously, the surge to $20K is not natural and the market went fully FOMO back then. The bear has tried many times to break $6K with no success. I would say that the bottom is in but I'm not sure because despite all the good news (LN, SEC), the market didn't move up by much and the volume keeps decreasing.

Someone is deliberately influencing the price negatively!
when can we start mooning again?
too much dumps in these months...
Not anytime soon. I'm talking about years before the next moon Cheesy

531  Local / Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian) / Re: Is Bitcoin illegal in Indonesia on: June 19, 2018, 01:40:29 AM
Exchanging crypto is still allowed here, you're just not allowed to make any payment with crypto. The biggest Indonesian exchange is indodax.com so that's my recommendation. However, you need to comply with their KYC procedure before making fiat (IDR) transaction.
532  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: can bitcoin would actually be overthrown? on: June 19, 2018, 01:30:25 AM
There are a lot of rumor right now while the value of bitcoin is decreasing that is can be potentially be overthrown. i know for a fact the bitcoins technology is kind of outdated compared to the new ones coming out of the market, but the coins value is so high right now and is also wildly known because of this popularity bitcoin invites new investors in the platform.I think ETH would be the toughest contender in overthrowing the coin perhaps it also has grown popularity over the couple of years of its existence and is also continuing to grow.

Can bitcoin can be potentially overthrown by other coins? what are you thoughts? and what coins do you think can out run bitcoin?
How is Bitcoin outdated? What tech do you want to see in Bitcoin? A lot of newer coins are throwing out features that don't solve any problem.
Overthrown by Ethereum? I don't think so. Last year was the last time ETH could ever get so close to the flippening

533  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Why Never Sell At A Loss Is A Terrible Advice on: June 18, 2018, 11:48:00 AM
Only new, uneducated traders take that kind of advice. Like The Pharmacist said, "it's not a loss until I sell" sound somewhat comforting but also misleading. You lose a lot of time bag holding that coin, and as OP said there's also potential losses as you can re-enter lower or spend it on a better asset.

An educated trader must have a plan before taking a position. They must know what they expect of the market, where to put the stop loss, where to take profit. All of those must be set before executing the trade. Without all that, you're basically gambling with your position, and I wouldn't call it "trading".
534  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Resources to learn crypto trading? on: June 18, 2018, 08:36:58 AM
My first technical analysis learning source is https://www.babypips.com/learn/forex

The course is not fully meant for crypto, it is made for forex. But forex and crypto TA shouldn't be different, no? Babypips covers a lot of material only in a few web pages. It's more like a summary and an introduction to the basic, not a really depth one, but it should be a good start.
535  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think/believe Bitcoins 2017 highs were artificially inflated? on: June 18, 2018, 07:25:07 AM
As the title says, Do you think Bitcoin's 2017 highs were artificially inflated? Is it possible to manipulate price of Bitcoin?
Answer to the second question, yes. It's possible to manipulate the price of Bitcoin. But I don't think that it is the main cause of 2017 ATH. Last year's ATH was caused by the futures hype (CME, CBOE) and the market basically went full FOMO, causing the price surge to $19K in months. So, unlike 2013 where there was a suspicious activity in Mt.Gox, so far we had no clue about manipulation in 2017 bull run.

Bitcoin can be manipulated. Manipulation takes place at the exchange of Mt. Gox, this price manipulation is done by two bots and listed as "??" in the user's country. They named this bot "Mark" and "Willy".

Markus buys and sells bitcoins at seemingly random prices and does not pay for transaction fees. After further examination, Mark does not actually pay for Bitcoin received. Mark earns 335,889 bitcoins and is active from February 14, 2013 through September 27, 2013.

Seven hours after Mark becomes inactive, Willy appears with 49 accounts. Each of these Willy accounts sequentially purchases bitcoins worth US $ 2.5 million and then becomes inactive. During this period, bitcoin prices soared.

536  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does crypto need to step out of Bitcoins shadow? Opinions please? on: June 16, 2018, 12:57:38 PM
Hi guys, just wondering about other peoples opinion on this.

In order for the world of Crypto to grow and be mass-adopted, do you think crypto needs to step out of the shadow of Bitcoin or do you think its the other way round and that people should scoop up Bitcoin and let it always rule the roost?
Should be the other way around. Honestly, my impression so far is that most altcoins are just being used as a tool for speculative trading. Sure there are some outliers that actually useful like Ethereum but most are just meant to make gains from crazy speculative trading. Devs pre-mining a coin, ICO organizers take a lot of stakes, pump and dump, market manipulation, that's all I see from most altcoin so far. If crypto ecosystem wants to grow, people need to move on from these things, forget about getting rich quick with a 100x coin, and focus more on things that actually work and have real impact: Bitcoin.
537  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin and Fiat - this is how I see the future on: June 16, 2018, 11:32:56 AM
In my own opinion, if the entire world or most of the people who are living in a country will be preferring cryptocurrency over fiat and governments can do nothing about that because people will always look for an alternative way to earn money and cryptocurrency is the answer.
Well as long as the government is still in power, they could do a lot of things to its citizen. If crypto is still illegal, the govt can sue you and put you in jail. Those people who prefer crypto must fight their way to legalize crypto in their country. Btw, legalization has nothing to do with earning money. I think in most country trading and gaining value from crypto is still allowed.

At a time where I see currencies moving away from cash to digital I think the reason is partly so that governments can control the flow of their currency more particularly for laundering. They can possibly gain more taxation from a cashless currency because cash cannot be fully traced. If i sell my car for cash to another individual the government dont get any revenue from that because it is not traceable.
I agree with your point, digital payment will make it easier to monitor cash flows. It also will reduce the cost of cash—paper and coin don't come out of nowhere, they have to be printed and minted. But your car selling example is a bit off IMO, the govt would know anyway even if you pay by cash.
538  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency market - what are you doing in this market conditions? on: June 16, 2018, 07:25:06 AM
What are you doing right now in this bear market?
Do you think we are in a bear market or is it just a correction?
This is a bear market IMO. I think we're going back to 2014 all over again. If this assumption is correct then we won't see any significant bull run until 2022, 4 years after last ATH just like 2013-2017. Keep in that the halving will occur on 2021. Last time (2016) the bull run was a year after the halving, so this would be a nice coincidence too! (cherry picking, I know Cheesy)

I mostly accumulating here, buying every once in a while. You don't have to wait for the bottom to get a good buy, don't try to catch the falling knife they say. Buy all the way down and you'll get a good price average. I also margin trade sometime, opening a short during this bear trend can be so rewarding.
539  Other / Meta / Re: How many characters is in Hero Member Rank?? on: June 16, 2018, 07:07:25 AM
Do you mean maximum character on signature? It's the same. The maximum character in signature for member rank and above is 4000 characters.

Perhaps the allowed signature styling should change with activity score / membergroup. Like:
- Newbie: No styling (including links) allowed. Max 40 characters.
- Jr. Member: Links allowed. Max 100 characters.
- Member: Unlimited length.
- Full: Color allowed.
- Sr. Member: Size allowed
- Hero: Background color allowed

Then newbies will be less effective advertisers, which would hopefully significantly reduce the incentive for low-content posts. And when people become capable of effectively advertising through their signatures, they'll have invested a lot of time into their accounts, and they won't risk being banned by spamming.
540  Economy / Reputation / Re: Gleb Gamow account was sold Proof on: June 16, 2018, 07:04:18 AM
just wondering, if Hilariousandco can see the PM of  the user, then he can find from the AGLD pms, who bought this account?
Who are  the potential buyers of this account.
Should not we publish and red tag all the potential buyers of  this account, including OP?
AFAIK global mod can only see reported PM. theymos is the only person who's able to see all PMs.
