521  Economy / Marketplace / Computer accessories (SATA, IDE, PSU, DVI cables etc) for BTC on: February 17, 2011, 10:38:07 AM
I have plenty of different types of cables for sale:

  • USB printer cables
  • Power leads (UK type plug)
  • SATA
  • IDE
  • PS2 extension leads
  • VGA extension leads
  • DVI monitor cables
  • Serial cables (null modem type)
  • PSU Molex (4-pin standard type connector) to SATA power connector
  • PSU Molex (4-pin standard type connector to PCI-eXpress power connector(6-PIN)
  • Cat-5 patch cables (straight-through and cross-over)

Most of them are new, some are used.

If you're looking for something else just ask, I may have it.

Probably using clearcoin for paying him would have been a better idea (setting the expiry period to 30 days each time you pay him). Still, not ideal...

Thanks for your feedback thekid...

My thought was that the use of bitcoins "in and of itself" is like a discount. But I'm still just experimenting with the system. I have made 17 bitcoins so far!

I have not figured out how to think about this experiment. Do I try and actually make money on it or do I view it as just marketing, and hope that bitcoin clients will spend real money later.

I don't understand you - shouldn't you be hoping that clients will pay you in Bitcoins? You can always exchange them for "real money" or spend them on something.

My thought is that inorder for bitcoin to become more legitimate, one should be able to make money with it. If the whole point is just to get people to spend USD in the future it sort of marginalized bitcoins as a currency.

The whole point is to get people to stop using USD and start using Bitcoin. Then you won't need to worry about getting USD anymore since you will be able to pay for stuff with Bitcoins.

Also, selling retail is a much different business model then selling a service (which seems to be mostly what bitcoins are spent on) because there are real costs involved, not just time. I have to pay for shipping, the product being shipped, and the person to pack the order.

The way I am doing it to keep my "books" in order is - if someone buys something from my shop for Bitcoin - I then buy this item from my shop myself for the "real money" and send this item to the customer. I put this into my registry as a normal sale. The customer gets an invoice in "real currency" and I keep the Bitcoins.
524  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: python OpenCL bitcoin miner on: February 16, 2011, 11:50:31 PM
I know, the script is not a problem - but where in the code do I add it (and how Smiley)?

At the top of BitcoinMiner.py  add
Code:
import.os
Near
Code:
def blockFound(self, hash, accepted):
add
Code:
def sendmail(self):
                os.system("./your_mailing_script")
In
Code:
def blockFound(self, hash, accepted):
add
Code:
                self.sendmail()

The script will run if the block is either accepted or invalid/stale but the latter is also important to know. You can add hash and or date to the arguments. Remember than in Python indentation matters.

The next time I get an email you're getting some coins!

If this will allow us to see real-time stats, especially on a per-worker basis, I like it. Since I leave myself connected almost 24/7, disconnecting only when work requires me to, I don't see this affecting me much at all.

Same here. Slush is really doing a great job.

Is there any way of checking how many "immature" (currently maturing) coins there are using bitcoind?
527  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: python OpenCL bitcoin miner on: February 16, 2011, 11:12:04 PM
Would it be hard to get the miner to send an email message everytime the block was accepted?

The easiest would be to specify a program to be executed, when a block/share is accepted.

Then you can write a script / batch file to send an email, play a sound, send an SMS, whatever.

I know, the script is not a problem - but where in the code do I add it (and how Smiley)?

I think this was mentioned before, but couldn't find it on the forum:

Would it be hard to get the miner to send an email message everytime the block was accepted?
529  Economy / Marketplace / Re: I buy vintage PC games for Bitcoins on: February 16, 2011, 10:50:54 PM
I have many games from way before 2000 like early 1990s, how much for one game and who pays for shipping.

Did you get that list for me?
530  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Help getting GPU mining working... on: February 16, 2011, 10:26:35 PM
I had ordered a 1kw psu from new egg and it should be here tomorrow. Now Im thinking i should have went with 850..

Will a 1kw power supply actually cost more to run than an 850 powering the same components?

I think you will be much safer with the 1000W, especially if you overclock.

I have a 1000W one running two 5850, and a 750W one running single 5970.

My very professional cooling solution for the 5970: Cheesy

532  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: ATI Overdrive on Linux for 5850 and 5970? on: February 16, 2011, 10:08:21 PM
Mahkul, whose 5850 card are you running and which bios?  I have a Diamond 5850PE51G that won't let me go above 775 MHz using aticonfig.  I tried several overclocking bioses including MSI and ASUS, but Linux won't boot with them in.

They are Sapphire. As for the Bios version I will check that for you tomorrow; the clock... I think I was able to go up to 900MHz, but will let you know for definite tomorrow.

As for the 5970 it is a Sapphire as well and I was able to overclock it to 1010MHz (GPU core clock!). I must get some better cooling solution, because the temperature goes too high on them at that frequency, so I have to run them at 800MHz for now (getting 306Mhash/s each core).
533  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: ATI Overdrive on Linux for 5850 and 5970? on: February 16, 2011, 05:06:51 PM
Guys, any idea what's the maximum temperature value that's "safe" for 5970?
534  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Ubuntu won't install when 5970 is in the slot on: February 16, 2011, 03:59:05 PM
Just to confirm that I was able to install Ubuntu using the built-in card (the motherboard model is: ASUS MZNPV-VN). Then I had to manually install ATI drivers in order to use the 5970. The same problem occured on ASUS P5GC-MX/1333 motherboard (Ubuntu installer would not boot when the monitor was connected to the 5970). Hopefullly someone will find this helpful.
535  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Should we ban something on the Bitcoin marketplace? on: February 16, 2011, 02:21:05 PM
If you ban illegal goods here, another place for them will appear.

I think that's the whole point of the discussion - to keep it away from THIS forum if at all.
536  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Ubuntu won't install when 5970 is in the slot on: February 16, 2011, 11:02:52 AM
The card works fine under Windows. I am going to install Ubuntu using the standard graphics card and then try to install Ati CCC. Will let you know how I got on.
537  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Ubuntu won't install when 5970 is in the slot on: February 15, 2011, 05:36:37 PM
I had a similar problem with my dual 5970 installation (but in contrast to your problem, it worked fine with a single card). It turned out to be ATI Catalyst bug and upgrading to 10.12 solved the problems.

Could you try to log into console while booting? Ctrl-ALT-F1 should give a login screen. You may also try installing openssh-server and login remotely (actually I had to do this way because console did not work) but it maybe hard when there is no full system.

You may indeed try installing the system with one card and try installing the drivers later. There is also possibility of a motherboard-card conflict. Does it work with Windows?

You again. Wink Thanks for the quick response.

I am actually installing using the in-built graphics card and am going to try and install the 5970 later. Do you think this will work?
538  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Usability Issue on: February 15, 2011, 05:29:14 PM
This is needed.
539  Bitcoin / Mining / Ubuntu won't install when 5970 is in the slot on: February 15, 2011, 05:11:49 PM
I just got myself two 5970s. I put one of them into the motherboard (ASUS P5GC-1333) and tried to install Ubuntu from the CD, but it only gets past the booting message "Loading ISOLINUX" then the screen changes to Ubuntu splash screen (the one with those "progress dots") and stays like that forever. I tried with both cards - and the result is the same. If I take the card out and use the motherboard's in-built graphics card the problem goes away and the installation goes past that point. Any thoughts?

EDIT: If I install Ubuntu while using my built-in card (but keeping the 5970 in the slot) will I still be able to use it for mining (if I manage to install the drivers later) - or does it have to be the main graphics adapter on the OS?

540  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: ATI Overdrive on Linux for 5850 and 5970? on: February 14, 2011, 03:41:22 PM
Anyone knows how to overclock these on Linux? I have ATI Catalyst on Ubuntu, but it's missing the overdrive section that windoze has...

First,

Code:
aticonfig --od-enable

Then

Code:
aticonfig --od-setclocks=coreclock,memclock --adapter=num

where num is 0,1,2,... or "all".

Commit is for setting it permanently (it will clock at this value after restart)

Code:
aticonfig --odcc --adapter=all

This command checks the clock
Code:
aticonfig --odgc --adapter=all

And this one temperature:
Code:
aticonfig --odgt --adapter=all

The list of these commands is avalable by
Code:
aticonfig --help

To set the fan at 70%

Code:
aticonfig --pplib-cmd "set fanspeed 0 70"

If you have multicard display, you need to set
export DISPLAY=:0.num,

where num is GPU num before submiiting the set fanspeed command.

You're just impossible man. I sent a few coins again. Wink
