This is a double-sided issue. On the one hand it's nice that kids learn compassion and reaching out a helping hand. On the other, it is organised in a "compulsory-voluntary" manner (Norway has had this practice for years - called "Operasjon dagsverk" / "Operation a day's work", where school kids work for money for one day - washing cars, cleaning gardens, and then the money is sent to the poor and needy in Africa).

There is also a concern that these refugee centres may be hubs of various diseases, and that trained medical personnel would be better suited for doing the above described job. Reports from Hungary already indicate a pre-epidemic state among the refugees.

So, there came to their camp some unknown to recruiters in July – they promised free shipping to Europe. One had to agree to the offer quickly and to go right away. ...

US refuses to receive PM Medvedev’s delegation to coordinate anti-terrorist actions in Syria

Quote
Washington has refused to receive a Russian military delegation, headed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, to discuss coordinated action on the fight against terrorism in Syria, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said.

“We have proposed to Americans what President Vladimir Putin informed the public about yesterday, namely, to send a delegation of military experts to Moscow to agree on a whole number of joint steps, afterwards we would be ready to send a high delegation led by Prime Minister Medvedev to Washington,” Lavrov told the Russian Parliament on Thursday.

"Today we were told that they will not be able to send a delegation to Moscow. At the same time, they are unable to receive our delegation in Washington," he added.

And newly USA bombed to smithereens a power plant and a transformer station in Aleppo. The pattern is the same as in Donbass, where US-backed Ukros hit primarily power plants, water pipes, hospitals, schools, and infrastructure/social objects
524  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was shot down by an air-to-air missile on: October 14, 2015, 12:41:17 PM
I thought it was an air-to-air missile? Don't change propaganda mid stream, it looks even less believable.

No one is changing the "propaganda". I still think the plane was hit with cannon fire and an AA rocket. Russian authorities may be conceding to the Western view of BUK in trying to find a compromise, acceptable to the West. That way the Western BUK-propaganda would not be looking as foolish. Russia has done it in the past - went along with a partial lie to save the faces of the Western "partners".

See, for example, independent and exhaustive investigation by Michel Brun of the KAL-007 shoot-down. He found enough hard evidence to pinpoint the location to the west coast of Japan, yet USSR took the blame for it, as if the shoot-down occurred over Sakhalin... All in the name of avoiding WWIII

EDIT: Besides, it's of the secondary importance what destroyed that plane, as long as those who ordered the execution of this atrocity are found and brought to justice.

‘It remains our belief’: US insists rebels downed MH17 with BUK missile, ignores Dutch report
https://www.rt.com/news/318613-usa-rebels-mh17-buk/

Quote
Despite a 15-month-long Dutch-led probe not definitively concluding who fired the BUK surface-to-air missile or the precise location from which it originated, the US continues to pursue its “belief” that it was east Ukrainian rebels who downed flight MH17.

The State department spokesman Mark Toner welcomed “the important findings” of the Dutch Safety Board (DSB) presented on Tuesday, briefing journalists that the Dutch report “validated” the US theory that the Malaysia-bound flight carrying nearly 300 passengers was downed “by a BUK surface-to-air missile” from “separatist-controlled territory.”

“The unintelligible babbling we have to read constantly simply aims at, on one hand, confusing, and on the other hand – to form a desired public opinion, which could effectively be called propaganda,” Russia’s Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson said at a media briefing in Moscow.

...

Also, Russia aviation authorities say that the rocket could have only been launched from Zaroshenskoej, which was controlled by Kiev:
https://russian.rt.com/article/123551

And further accuses Netherlands of substituting the evidence - the strike elements of the rocket:
http://www.mk.ru/politics/2015/10/14/rosaviaciya-razgromila-gollandskiy-doklad-po-boingu-mh17.html?

In this article it is pointed out that the fuselage lacks butterfly-shaped holes, characteristic for BUK shrapnel damage, something the Dutch report does not address. So the BUK theory is still, in a way, rejected by the Russian side.

In conclusion, what Russia does here is not propaganda, but science. The West puts forth a hypothesis: "it's BUK's". (USA says it's an axiom Roll Eyes ). Russia says, fine, let's do some experiments, like detonating a warhead near an airliner fuselage or calculating where a hypothetical rocket was launched from to match the observed radio (silence) data, and see if experiments strengthen or weaken the hypothesis.
525  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was shot down by an air-to-air missile on: October 13, 2015, 02:58:25 PM
Holland presented a report on MH-17 shoot-down. As expected, it did everything to present the party that has the most to lose from this false flag as the guilty one, and did not address such trivialities as observable facts. For example: if the plane was hit by BUK, all it's passengers would have been instantly killed by shrapnel. How come many had time to pull oxygen masks over their faces? Why were only pilots' bodies riddled with holes? The plane would not have been airworthy after a BUK impact. How come it could fly (glide?) for so long after it lost air contact inside the Ukraine-controlled territory.

https://www.rt.com/news/318457-mh17-report-plane-crash/

https://www.rt.com/news/318536-mh17-investigation-dutch-report/

Dutch experts say the rocket must have been shot from the DNR-controlled village Snezhnoje (btw, it means "Snowy" in Russian). But Almaz-Antey, the weapons maker, conducted several simulations, which show that the rocket could only have been launched from Ukrainian territory...

MH17 downed by outdated BUK missile fired from Kiev-controlled area – Defense system manufacturer
https://www.rt.com/news/318531-mh17-experiment-almaz-antey/

Quote
Two full-scale experiments by the Almaz-Antey defense company aimed at recreating the MH17 crash conclude the missile that downed the flight was an old BUK model fired from a Ukraine-controlled area, contesting the preliminary theory by Dutch investigators.

Two detonations of Buk missiles near aluminum panels and the cockpits of decommissioned Ilyushin Il-86 passenger airliners in July and October have produced what the company calls conclusive results.

In the course of the international investigation, "the company was provided with three T-shaped strike elements, which looked like 9M38M1 [model] strike elements, which caused specialists to make their conclusion on the missile type in June," said Almaz Antey’s CEO.

Washington, by the decision of the US Congress, will be demanding of the IS-terrorist supporting Ukro-nazi government in Kiev that they continue the civil war in Donbass (effectively, the genocide of the Russian population there) until the bitter end. USA will pay $300million annually to achieve this.

EU may have not liked so much the latest pronouncements from the insane asylum formerly called Ukraine. During his UN speech drunk Poroshenko announced that “Russia is attempting to destabilize ISIS,” which I think embarrassed every remaining sane Ukrainian on the face of the Earth. Later Poroshenko proposed that Ukraine should gather data on families of Russian pilots in Syria in order to pass them on to ISIS so they would terrorize these families. Anton Gerashchenko, former advisor to Poroshenko and present Ukraine’s interior ministry advisor, announced that Ukraine should send troops to help ISIS take revenge on Russia.
527  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian parliament grants Vladimir Putin right to deploy military in Syria on: October 10, 2015, 05:56:25 PM
Chief of Pentagon Carter virtually declared war against Russia yesterday. He basically said that if Russia does not stop what it's doing in Syria (fighting ISIS terrorists) and does not get out of there, Russian soldiers will start dying and then war will be transferred to the Russian soil. Less radical statements than his were treated as declarations of war in the times past!

At the same time, StateDep said that they will be giving military and air support to militant groups in Syria. When asked which groups, the spokesperson evaded the question saying that there are many such groups there. Basically US declares military support to ISIS, just like they supported Taliban before.

And finally, when I thought that the bottom of double standards was reached, somebody knocked from below. US announces that it will introduce new round of sanctions against Russia for... assisting Syria in their fight against ISIS terrorists.

Undaunted, Russian Air and Space Forces continue assisting Syria in their strive to preserve sovereignty. One town was completely liberated from ISIS yesterday and a valley there is being cleared now. Also Russian forces conducted a series of missile strikes from the Caspian fleet of small frigates (alarming USA to no end my this unexpected move) and from the Black Sea fleet ships, which are located near the Syrian shore.
528  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian parliament grants Vladimir Putin right to deploy military in Syria on: October 08, 2015, 06:29:02 PM
Haha. So both Russia and the USA are using ISIS as an excuse to expand military operations.

Well, at least Russia is very specific in their targets (Russian marines did also some "target practice" from sea, hitting several ISIS posts) and transparent in reporting what they hit. And judging by the howling coming from ISIS, Russians are hitting them, as opposed to Americans, who were bombing ISIS for a year with not a peep of disapproval coming from ISIS...  Cool

Also, Russia is not expanding it military operations (Russia had its sole foreign military naval base in Syria for years) - it's stopping ISIS from expanding to the Russia's borders, which was a very real existential threat to Russia.
529  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian parliament grants Vladimir Putin right to deploy military in Syria on: October 08, 2015, 06:24:15 PM
For those, who doubter that Washington is the common denominator between ISIS and the coup d'etat in Ukraine, here is one more proof.

Poroshenko, the Washington-installed gauleither of Ukraine, in his stupidity let slip the intent of his masters. Yesterday Poroshenko said that Ukraine should gather information about Russian fighter pilots working in Syria and pass it on to ISIS!

Meanwhile Washington did another of their political 180 U-turns and now says that Russia is only bombing the "Syrian opposition army" (all 100 people in it). This came as a response to President Putin's suggestion that the opposition army and the Syrian Army should cooperate in dealing with the common enemy: ISIS. USA were very quick in saying that Syrian opposition will net be allowed to do it.

Poroshenko said that the decision by the leadership of DNR and LNR to postpone the elections in the republics until the next year is "a step towards returning of Ukraine into Donbass" (note the formulation - it's as if Ukraine seeks to join Donbass!) Smiley

http://lenta.ru/news/2015/10/06/petro/

The real reason for postponement is to ensure the political stability in the republics, giving them more time to mature. DNR and LNR still demand from Kiev to observe Minsk agreements, points which include granting Donbass special status, general amnesty and changes to Ukrainian Constitution.

Meanwhile, Ukraine may try something in DNR while the attention is on Syria, if only to create a false-flag for their masters - yesterday the republican army shot down the 5th Ukrainian military UAV that attempted to overfly the territory of the republic. (Where does Ukraine get these UAVs from?)
531  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Chinese warplanes to join Russia in Syria on: October 06, 2015, 09:20:39 PM
War is not the solution of any problem. Syria Govt should sit with the Opposition to resolve the issues peacefully.

You are mixing up opposition and ISIS terrorists. As for the opposition, Syrian government held talks with it in Kazahstan.

Actually, what apollofire wrote, got me to take a close look at how MSM portraits Russian assistance in fighting terrorists in the region. The conclusion is: MSM is in overdrive mode, rebranding "ISIS, the bad ruthless, head-chopping terrorists, whom USA was right to bomb for the past year" into "ISIS, the good helpless opposition, whom Russia has no right to touch."

Other short news items that have "accidentally" slipped the Western MSM attention:

- On the second day of Russian operations, the president of Iraq voiced an opinion that he'd welcome Russian help in his country, combating ISIS.

- Yesterday, the vice-president of Afghanistan was in Russia, and during talks with the head of Chechen Republic aired an idea that Russia would be welcome to help combat terrorists in his country.

Both Iraq and Afghanistan are presumably example of success of the American interventionalism. Russia will hardly go into Afghanistan - it would be a political suicide for any president, because Afghanistan for Russia bears the same negative connotation as Vietnam (and Iraq and Afghanistan) for USA. As for Iraq, Russia has no ambition acting as a world policeman - it solves a very specific problem in Syria, a problem that can potentially threaten Russian borders.

- While I am on the topic of Afghanistan, USA bombed a hospital belonging to Doctors without Borders, burning several children alive...
http://www.vz.ru/news/2015/10/6/770838.html

- Syrian ambassador to Russia said yesterday that Russian military acts in close cooperation with Syrian authorities and that no opposition is harmed in the process.

- Washington grudgingly confirmed this, saying that Russia does not bomb opposition outposts (but this tiny truth gets drowned in the hurricane of lies in the MSM)

The situation with the opposition is somewhat similar to that in Ukraine in February 2014. When Yanukovich came to an agreement with the opposition, guaranteed by EU top-brass, USA saw fit to side with the Ukrainian Nazis and conduct a coup d'etat on the next day. The same in Syria now. As it seems that opposition and Assad may come to some sort of agreement, USA desperately needs a new "opposition", even if that means ISIS.

- Syrian minister of information noted that since Russian anti-terrorist bombings started, the leaders of ISIS were very vocal in cursing Russia, something, which was not the case when USA announced about its intentions to and started their bombings a year ago.

- Syrian special forces intercepted a convoy with arms and munitions that was en route to ISIS today.

- And finally, Turkey is outraged with Russia's actions. Turkey as a front for NATO, was hoping to create a no-fly zone over Syria (like in Lybia, with the same expected outcome) so as not to allow Syrian government forces conduct aerial raids against terrorists of ISIS.
532  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian parliament grants Vladimir Putin right to deploy military in Syria on: October 06, 2015, 06:56:50 PM
It's not about the regime of Obama or the presidency of Assad or the balancing act of Putin. It's about standing up to the dark forces that strive to destroy the last vestiges of international law and to violate and abolish the notion of sovereign states.

As for NATO, it long ago morphed into what can be described as a North-American Terrorist Organisation - it's last transformation happened when it violated the sovereignty of Yugoslavia, bombed that country into oblivion, killing and displacing hundreds of thousands of Serbs in the process. Iraq, Afghanistan, Tunis, Lybia, Egypt, and now Syria are just continuations of that unchecked aggression from USNATO.

War is not going to end the crises. UN should actively engage with the Syria govt to resolve the issue.

Agree. And at least Russia is doing just that - cooperating with Syrian government. On the other hand, military operations are needed to mop up the mess others created. Another such mess was ended by Russia/USSR exactly 70 years ago. Wink

Today is the 5th day of Russian aerial assistance to the Syrian army in their common fight against Islamic terrorists of ISIS.

Today's results are: 3 stores of munitions, 4 command centres and a base of the terrorists have been destroyed.

Below is an article containing several videos, as Russian military operates in full transparency.
http://www.aif.ru/society/army/samolety_vks_rossii_udarili_po_8_obektam_igil_v_provincii_idlib

Yesterday another ISIS command centre was destroyed, which several groups of terrorists laid down weapons and surrendered to the Syrian authorities. Several other groups abandoned their positions and started escaping North in the direction of Turkey and Europe (the choice of direction is thought-provoking).

And the day before yesterday a camouflaged munitions and explosives factory used by ISIS was destroyed.

Now, stating the obvious, if the American goal of bombing Syria for the past year was to eradicate terrorists, you'd expect USA celebrating such advances. But no. The goal was always, as Obama stated, to overthrow yet another legitimate government in the Middle East.

Russia's progress is so spectacular so far, that USA is in full panic mode. Chief of Pentagon Carter said today that Pentagon will do everything it can (including military force) to oppose Russia in its fight with terrorism in Syria. (Remember how USA supplied Taliban with Stingers, which lead to slowing down and then negating an initially successful Soviet fight against Taliban terrorists in Afghanistan?)

http://tvzvezda.ru/news/vstrane_i_mire/content/201510051506-x7gc.htm
http://russian.rt.com/article/120768

Also, NATO is calling for an extraordinary meeting, while the chief of NATO issues a warning, saying that Russian actions in Syria puts it at odds with NATO.

http://www.gazeta.ru/politics/news/2015/10/05/n_7670837.shtml?

In other words, both NATO and USA have openly and officially stated their allegiance with and support of the Islamic terrorists of ISIS. That's the only way to interpret such statements.

Meanwhile, Russian military ship "Cesar Kunikov" entered Mediterranean sea with a shipment of munitions and supplies to the Syrian army.

http://lenta.ru/news/2015/10/05/vmf/

Russia also sends humanitarian / medical / refugee camping aid to Syria. Its aim is to allow Syrians, who were displaced by ISIS to stay in Syria and not flee the country, with the goal of rebuilding the country once ISIS is defeated.

...

Russia has consistently opposed terrorism in all its forms. Today, we provide military-technical assistance to Iraq, Syria and other regional countries fighting terrorist groups. We think it’s a big mistake to refuse to cooperate with the Syrian authorities and government forces who valiantly fight terrorists on the ground.

We should finally admit that President Assad’s government forces and the Kurdish militia are the only forces really fighting terrorists in Syria. Yes, we are aware of all the problems and conflicts in the region, but we definitely have to consider the actual situation on the ground.

Dear colleagues, I must note that such an honest and frank approach on Russia's part has been recently used as a pretext for accusing it of its growing ambitions — as if those who say that have no ambitions at all. However, it is not about Russia's ambitions, dear colleagues, but about the recognition of the fact that we can no longer tolerate the current state of affairs in the world.

What we actually propose is to be guided by common values and common interests rather than by ambitions. Relying on international law, we must join efforts to address the problems that all of us are facing, and create a genuinely broad international coalition against terrorism. Similar to the anti-Hitler coalition, it could unite a broad range of parties willing to stand firm against those who, just like the Nazis, sow evil and hatred of humankind. And of course, Muslim nations should play a key role in such a coalition, since Islamic State not only poses a direct threat to them, but also tarnishes one of the greatest world religions with its atrocities. The ideologues of these extremists make a mockery of Islam and subvert its true humanist values.
...

And I have some news regarding Syria later today.

Rose is so painting himself into a corner with every question. Take, for example, this:

Quote
CHARLIE ROSE: The Secretary of State John Kerry said that the United States welcomed your assistance in the fight against the Islamic State. Others have taken note of the fact that these are combat planes and manpad systems that are being used against the conventional army, not extremists.

VLADIMIR PUTIN: There is only one regular army there. That is the army of Syrian President al-Assad. And he is confronted with what some of our international partners interpret as an opposition. In reality, al-Assad's army is fighting against terrorist organisations. You should know better than me about the hearings that have just taken place in the United States Senate, where the military and Pentagon representatives, if I am not mistaken, reported to the senators about what the United States had done to train the combat part of the opposition forces. The initial aim was to train between 5,000 and 6,000 fighters, and then 12,000 more. It turns out that only 60 of these fighters have been properly trained, and as few as 4 or 5 people actually carry weapons, while the rest of them have deserted with the American weapons to join ISIS. That is the first point.

Dont think War or Military Deployment is the solution for the on-going crises. UN should play active role to end the crises. Thanks

I agree with you but it seems that UN  is unable to carry out any active policy in the Middle East because of disagreements between the main political forces in the Security Council.
Russia and America should agree and act together in Syria, this is the only way to end the conflict and chaos in Syria.
Unfortunately, it seems that now it is not a realistic option.

To a certain degree, Russia and USA agreed. US military tops called Russian colleagues and did some coordination over telepresence on the 1st of October. That may not have made it to the US news. Also, Russia is acting in Syria within the UN mandate, and, more importantly, on the official request from the legitimate government of Syria.

In the latest edition of "News of the Week" with Dmitrij Kiseljov (Russian journalist under Western sanctions for NOT telling lies), he very accurately described Russian position on Syria: "USA is far away, while Russia has to live in this hemisphere. If the Islamic terrorists conquer Syria, their resources will be freed up to mount an attack on Russia. It is therefore in Russian existential interests to eradicate ISIS before it takes root and spreads to the Russian borders."

To add to that, yesterday Germany extradited to Russia a terrorist harking from North Ossetia, who underwent training in ISIS camps in Syria, which target terrorists for operations on Russian territory. North Ossetia still remembers the terrorist attack in Beslan, so terrorists are frowned upon. If anyone wonders how that terrorist turned up in Germany, my guess is: with the wave of "refugees".

And as usual, a very good step-by-step unbiased (ok, maybe only slightly biased) analysis of the situation by Lada Ray:

https://futuristrendcast.wordpress.com/2015/10/01/russia-strikes-isil-isis-positions-in-syria-what-does-it-mean/

Two points pertaining concerns in this thread:

Quote
4. Of course, US and its EU/NATO allies have been invading and bombing countries regularly.

Russia for many, many years has NOT done any military operations outside its borders, except the four-day war with Georgia, which was a response to Georgia’s aggression against S. Ossetia, resulting in the deaths of eight Russian UN-mandated peacekeepers, thus forcing Russia to respond.

This, therefore, is the first (if you don’t count the former Soviet Republic of Georgia’s brief peace-keeping operation) case of Russian interference in a foreign conflict.

It is important to remember that while US, UK, France, Turkey and Israel have never been invited to Syria, Russia is acting upon a direct invitation and plea for help of the Syrian government. The staggering difference should be understood fully.

Russia is the ONLY legitimate foreign presence in Syria!

5. Some have been worried that Syria may become a new Afghanistan for Russia. As we know, Afghanistan ended in 1989 in the Soviet troops withdrawal, followed by the collapse of the USSR. When Brezhnev first went into Afghanistan in 1980 it was also done after an official invitation and multiple pleas for help by the Afghan government. US was secretly training Taliban and Al Qaeda to fight the Russian-leaning Afghan government, in order to lure the USSR into Afghanistan. These fears of the repeat of the past problems are understandable, but unfounded.

Putin isn’t Gorbachev, who made a lot of mistakes; present day Russia isn’t the old USSR. I can predict with absolute confidence that nothing similar to the Soviet Afghanistan business will take place here. This story is very different.

And, of course, this:

What about the mushrooms? and fishing? maybe some local plants that are edible?
The question about mushrooms is to the point, since Russians & co are mushroom experts. The Finns and the Germans are too, very knowledgeable. From them "mushroom knowledge" has sifted into Sweden and Norway.

I have a little Russian wooden figure of a mushroom (Gribok) - you know, rather like those little dolls with smaller dolls inside; it was given to me by a Russian colleague who went mushroom hunting with me in the Bergen area (west coast of Norway) once.

My mother was very knowledgeable indeed, knew umpty sorts of edible mushrooms. There are mushroom clubs/associations in Norway, usually led by botanists; they do scientific work as well as arrange excursions to different areas in the season.

The best places of all are those where there are animals grazing, they spread the "seeds". Grazing horses are good "providers" of champignon. Up in Finnmark (up towards the North Pole) there were so many mushrooms everywhere you got completely cross-eyed. They had sheep as well as raindeer herds.

He-he. That is so. There are many good mushroom spot around Oslo (as there were around Moscow, where I grew up). My preference lies with (in Norwegian) steinsopp, brunn- and rødskrubb, as well as piggsopp and kantarelle - (sorry, don't know their English names: Google translate suggests boletus, brown scrub, leccinum versipelle for the first three)

Meanwhile, Ukraine lost crimea (forever) , lost a part of the south-eastern provinces (at least), lack of money, still dependant with Gazprom, corruption will never end, violence... etc

Such a beautiful country ruined by the NATO (political side) & Russians (land side) !
Hope it will recover from this mess soon!

During the last century Ukraine's territory was growing steadily at the cost of Russian lands (as well as, to a lesser degree, Hungarian and Polish), so call it karma. Smiley

The only blame that I can lay on Russia for the current mess in Ukraine, is that Russia did not intervene much earlier, and gave the likes of Nudelman and Biden the free run of the country for so many years. Once Russia was back on track after the desolation of the 90s, it should have paid a much closer attention to what was being done to its closest (in all aspects - economical, cultural, territorial, ethnic) neighbour.
