Moon is 2nd place in the Coinpayments.net survey -- which coins they will add to their payment platform

Once merchants can accept Mooncoin for payments easily that adds to their value and keeps the currency going.

VOTE for MOON here:

In the rare event it does become mainstream, you won't be able to move for the celebrity endorsed coins.

I think this is inevitable. May take 2-3 years, or it may start happening in 2014, but you will see celebrities/companies/brands creating currencies regularly.

You will see companies devoting massive resources to be one of the top currencies/payment systems - if Apple or Google isn't working on something like this already I'd be amazed. The potential benefits for them would be huge.

Voted and added my voice to the Crypsty crowd. Thanks!

Just trying to do my part, @Crackmacs.

Moon is currently the one with the most votes -- keep them coming, guys!
544  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Coin Payments Coin Vote on: January 06, 2014, 05:41:13 AM
If I could vote for two, I'd vote for Earth and Moon (how can you have one without the other, after all?)  but since I'm limited to one, I'm all in for Mooncoin!  Smiley
545  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MOON] Mooncoin: You know where it's headed! WE HAVE LIFTOFF! on: January 06, 2014, 05:32:06 AM
Guys, you can now VOTE for Moon to be added to Coinpayments.net in this thread:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=397540.0

Coins with enough votes will be added to their platform so people can accept Mooncoin for payments on their website, their offline business, etc.   I just put in my vote; now it's your turn.

Earlier the linked thread was only for suggesting which coins to be included in the vote; enough people asked for it so now you can actually vote.  This is progress in the right direction.

Add your voice and vote with the link above!

There have also been a lot more requests for it in the Cryptsy thread -- add your voice there if you haven't yet:

Hashrate falling to sad, sad levels.... coin dying.... must dump.... rocket crashing.

I'm taking advantage of the resulting difficulty drop by only mining with one PC at the moment, yet getting just as many coins as I was with three PCs...

OK, I've just started a Mooncoin giveaway. You can see this post on my site for details:

and here's my first tweet about it:

https://twitter.com/plaintech/status/419761138427887616

I'm giving away 500 Moon to anyone who retweets the above tweet or who uses the social share buttons on the page on my site.  Reply in the comments on my site or via Twitter with your wallet address and I'll send it.

Everyone who joins in will be entered into a drawing I'll hold in a few days and I'll award the winner 25,000 Moon (in addition to the 500).

Edit: increased the amounts I'm giving away and updated the Twitter link to point to the new tweet

Hi. I'd really like to see Mooncoin (Moon) added to your platform.

I am planning to start talking to local businesses to get them to accept cryptocurrency as payment. I'd been looking at BitPay but I really like that you guys support a wide variety of altcoins, not just BTC, so now I'm leaning towards getting people to sign up with you.

A lot of people dismiss the altcoins, but even "bit players" (if you excuse the pun) in the gigantic new market and new economy we're only just starting to see develop around cryptos will be important.

To help create this future we need to support a wide range of coins - I really love that Coinpayments.net is doing this.  Very forward thinking.

Please add Mooncoin!  Thanks!  Smiley
549  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MOON] Mooncoin: You know where it's headed! WE HAVE LIFTOFF! on: January 05, 2014, 02:29:00 AM
I'm still mining.  People need to look at the bigger picture of the cryptocurrency market.  It is in its infancy and any coin which lasts through the coming weeks/months has the potential to be a small player in an absolutely unprecedentedly large market.

Even a small player in a market that big can turn you a real profit, we just need to keep it moving.

As I've mentioned, the way to keep the currency going is for it to function as a currency - i.e. people & businesses need to be able to accept it for payments.

Coinpayments.net is having the vote I mentioned yesterday to decide which currencies they will add to their payment platform.

Go here and vote for Mooncoin:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=397540.0

There are no votes yet for any currency since they opened the thread, so even a few people voting for Moon should get them to add it.  Take two seconds to post in the Coinpayments thread asking them to add Mooncoin.

If you use Twitter, tweet about #Mooncoin

If you use Facebook, post about it.

Do the same with any social media. Dogecoin got a lot of buzz that got it going because people were talking about.  So talk. Smiley

But start by voting for it here:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=397540.0
550  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MOON] Mooncoin: You know where it's headed! WE HAVE LIFTOFF! on: January 04, 2014, 12:57:19 PM
Long-term viability of the currency requires people to be able to buy stuff with it.

Coinpayments.net, an alternative to Bitpay, currently has 34 cryptocurrencies they support and want to add more.

Looking at this page:

https://www.coinpayments.net/index.php?cmd=coinreq

it looks like they're already considering adding it to their platform!

According to the front page of their site they're going to have people vote for which ones to add next; I'll post a link as soon as I see the survey is up.  Using the form on the page I linked to ask them to add Moon probably would help, too.

Maybe I should get my nearby grocery store (not a chain) to start using Coinpayments. I had been planning to talk to the manager to get him to sign up for Bitpay, but Coinpayments gives me more options.

Anyway, don't dump your coins people.  Although I did just pick up a few thousand for next to nothing on Coinex, so maybe you keep doing it for now on second thought...
551  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MOON] Mooncoin: You know where it's headed! WE HAVE LIFTOFF! on: January 04, 2014, 01:29:24 AM
I'd like to see Mooncoin be one of them and think it has a better chance potentially than some of the others we already have.

Why do you think Mooncoin has a better chance? I am curious..

Probably because he's holding a lot  Roll Eyes

Heh. Yes, I am holding, but I'm holding because I see some potential in it not the other way around. Smiley

Not going to make any huge claims here; it's partially based on the name and image being of better quality than many of the newer coins, and it also got my attention because it featured on Multipool right out of the gate.  I think we're only seeing the start of this cryptocurrency market/economy and there is a huge amount of room for many to succeed.

I especially think this is true with services that will allow increasingly easy exchange and payment between multiple currencies and which enable merchants to accept multiple currencies simultaneously instead of picking one over another (like the Coinpayments.net service I mentioned upthread).

My guess is that altcoins will start being adopted (and of course made) by companies, countries, and communities of people.  Things will become simultaneously more balkanized in the sense of there being many competing currencies, yet at the same more cohesive and interconnected because the technology will allow money to flow from one to the other easily.

So many currencies have a potential future, but individual ones like this will still need to get and build some momentum to make it to the explosive growth phase I see coming for crypto in general.

Anyway, call it a gut feeling if that's easier. Gotta run.  Smiley

Here's a suggestion that may help Mooncoin grow - there's a company called Coinpayments.net which is a checkout system like Bitpay, but accepts a variety of altcoins including Dogecoin and Unobtanium.

They are looking for votes on which new currencies to add and merchants would be able to easily accept any or all of the currencies CoinPayments supports.  They are looking for suggestions and will be having a vote in a few days.

Here is their currency request form:

https://www.coinpayments.net/index.php?cmd=coinreq

I'm going to submit a request they add Mooncoin and hopefully the dev will do so as well.  Why not take a minute and fill out the form if you want to help out?
553  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MOON] Mooncoin: You know where it's headed! WE HAVE LIFTOFF! on: January 03, 2014, 11:58:18 PM
Personally, I'd like to see it on Cryptsy soon -- not to dump it, but to sell a portion and hold the majority.  Gives me a little money to reinvest in my projects, but I'd want to hold most of it for longer term.

The entire crypto market will go up this year and with the flood of new currencies that is about to hit (we've seen nothing yet) I think there's a better long term chance for coins that get at least a little established now. But the ones that are around later this year will gain value and utility.

I think there will be a large number of currencies which will gain a degree of market share; I'd like to see Mooncoin be one of them and think it has a better chance potentially than some of the others we already have. Just needs a chance to gain some momentum and exposure.  I'm thinking about doing a little giveaway on Twitter maybe.

Ohh and PS, we just got a massive frontend webserver upgrade.  More servers - much, much faster

Ryan, I was checking out some of your other pools and noticed I had no way to register for most of the ones I tried, aside from the Mooncoin pool.  There's a terms and conditions box that doesn't display properly on some registration pages that gives you no way to agree to it, and so you can't actually register.  Tried it on Mac Firefox & Safari.

FYI, the developer has been working on Mooncoin -- I saw a post on Twitter where they announced that there is now an OS X wallet available on the official download site:

http://download.mooncoin.info/

I've installed it on Mountain Lion (haven't tried it on a computer with Mavericks yet) and it works for me.  I much prefer holding my coins myself rather than leaving them in an online wallet.

Hopefully Cryptsy will make it available for trading soon.
557  Bitcoin / Electrum / Electrum custom data folder error (Mac OS) on: January 03, 2014, 01:35:53 AM
Hi. I was trying to set up Electrum on a Mac to use a custom data folder so that I could use an encrypted disk image for storing my wallet/multiple future wallets.

If I run the application from the command line with the -w option I can get the program to run without problems using the custom folder.  However, I'd like to be able to have a Dock icon rather than have to use the command line.

With every other currency I'm using with a standard  -Qt wallet (including the official Bitcoin wallet) I have no problems using Automator to create an application that runs a shell script opening the wallet from a custom location, which lets me add the icon to my Dock.

This doesn't work with Electrum for some reason and I get an error that says "The action 'Run Shell Script' encountered an error.  Check the action's properties and try running the workflow again."

I also tried using a .conf file to see if I could specify the datadir path there, but if I run Electrum from the GUI or the command line it crashes with an error "ConfigParser.MissingSectionHeaderError: File contains no section headers."  which makes me think I'm not formatting the .conf file correctly, but I'm not sure.

If anyone has run into this before and have any suggestions, I'd appreciate them.  Thanks.
558  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Mooncoin OS X wallet now available on: January 03, 2014, 01:17:28 AM
I wanted to post this to the Mooncoin thread, but I only created my account a few days ago here (although I've been reading the site for a while now) so I can't post to the thread.  Looks like the rules require me to post in the Newbies area before I can post anywhere else so here I am.

I don't know why this hasn't been posted to the official Mooncoin thread, but I saw the dev post on Twitter that there are now working wallets for both Windows and Mac OS X.  I just downloaded the OS X client and was able to run it on a Mac with Mountain Lion -- haven't tested it on Mavericks yet, but looks good so far.

The official download page for both clients is located here:

http://download.mooncoin.info/

Hope that helps.
