561  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Good post but very annoying on: January 04, 2014, 03:04:02 PM
Sounds like all he's saying really is, if you plan to invest a lot of FIAT money into Bitcoin, make sure you legally declare it first so that you only get taxed on the profits made, not the total sum open converting back to FIAT.
562  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Listen to bitcoin...fucking awesome! on: January 04, 2014, 03:01:07 PM
Clicked on ops link, virus checker immediately shut it down saying trojan. I would advise those on desktops to steer clear of that site.

563  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NSA can rob peoples BTC wallet in new devices such as the iphone on: December 31, 2013, 12:49:41 PM
It honestly makes me sad that we have this whole generation of people growing up that find conspiracy sites and take them at face value without even using their brains to question their validity properly, but that's the Internet for you, it's power to spread as much mis-information as real information.

Der Speigel, the Guardian, NYT,  WSJ etc are hardly conspiracy sites. The recent iPhone and WiFi news regarding NSA capabilities was reported there. It makes me sad when facts are ignored or dismissed.

If the capability is there it is naive to think only the NSA will have it for long.

Who said anything about The Guardian newspaper website being a conspiracy site?.  Tell me, does it also make you sad when said supposed facts get twisted beyond all recognition into some alternative 'truth'?
Too many blind extremist views, at either end, not enough thinking and common sense...

565  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why switching to mBTC won't increase Bitcoin price. on: December 22, 2013, 04:05:38 AM
No I don't buy this argument at all, it doesn't matter whether its BTC, mBTC, uBTC or whatever, if someone wants to dip their toe into bitcoins they'll be thinking in one thing first and foremost, and thats how much to spendin their existing FIAT. So they'll say ok, lets try out this Bitcoin thing I've heard about, i'm gonna spend 50 dollars into it.  That'll be their decision process, how many dollars, pounds etc do I want to use to buy Bitcoins with.

567  Economy / Speculation / Re: It's over. Bitcoin is finished. on: December 08, 2013, 06:22:31 PM
This is such early days still, it's like starting a thread saying your sons failed his university degree.... when he's still 4 months old.
568  Economy / Speculation / Re: It's over. Bitcoin is finished. on: December 07, 2013, 11:42:27 PM
Anonymint, is that you?  Grin
569  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why didn't you sell? on: December 07, 2013, 10:58:01 PM

(More reasons are welcome)

I'm surprised you couldn't think of 3 of the most obvious reasons:

1) Some people genuinely believe in it becomming a true currency, so why not hold onto the currency of the future.
2) Some hold very little, or generated it from mining or just free/task websites so would rather wait for any potential greater return.
3) I think a lot of people saw this sudden very steep rise of the past couple weeks as nothing more than a bubble which was going to burst, irrespective of the longterm trend. And if you see it as a long term trend, you're not losing anything, sure you can make some short term extra gains by trying to predict a bubble bursting, selling just before the burst then buying back in at the low, but if you just hold and see long term potentially, you're not losing any value that you already had either.

Count me in for 2) and 3). I saw this as a sharp bubble, but still see Bitcoin as a long term uptrend, in other words, I'm not at all worried, even when it dropped to almost $500 I wasn't worried. Also my bitcoins were generated from task websites, I haven't spent a single penny of FIAT, I want to see what happens in the long term. I wont feel like I lost much if Bitcoin dies, and honestly don't see Bitcoin dying anytime soon.
570  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do I protect my air-gapped wallet from latest malware that travel by sound? on: December 06, 2013, 03:04:42 PM
as we know the latest malware and virus (e.g. BadBIOS) hack your computers and steal your data by travelling through computer speakers, thus jumping over air-gap protection.

how do i protect my bitcoin wallet from these threats?

Who's we?, we the stupid people we?. What you describe is impossible, period.
Communication through sound between two devices would only work if both had speaker and mic and both had specific installed software running and it would have to be in freq range both speaker and mic could emit and detect (ie audible to humans given poor freq range of most computer speakers and mics) and even then it would be rather unreliable.
571  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Depressed that I was not an early adopter on: December 01, 2013, 02:54:16 AM
Can't help but feel this way

You are an early adopter. How many people do you know who have Bitcoins? When everyone has it like with Facebook that is when you should be depressed.

Well that's the question isn't it, will Bitcoin turn out to be the Facebook, or the MySpace?. Time will tell...
572  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why Bitcoin is not as global as you might think on: November 29, 2013, 04:34:24 PM
You don't have to be a miner or even near a miner to use Bitcoins, so I've no idea what the OP's point is. As long as you have an internet connection, you can transfer Bitcoins to anyone else in the world with an internet connection.
573  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cracking the Code on: November 29, 2013, 06:09:35 AM
I still can't decide whether Anonymint is a very successful troll at winding people up, or he really is that incapable of understanding how the mining process and nodes actually work. If the former, congratulations. If the latter, I feel sorry for his lack of understanding. There's no point repeating what others have said as they've already explained the reasons why Anonymints argument makes no logical sense,so there's really nothing more to add.
574  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 1.49 stolen on: November 29, 2013, 01:22:34 AM
no i had firewall. antivirus, vpn, and i surf standard on proxy. so in my mind i am anonymous.... but guess not. going to buy avalon in hand tomorrow for a good price. hope to mine back what i lost. and this time cold storage. i guess no online wallet is secure enough. any tips what cold wallet is the best? and how to combine it with deposit to other people when i want to spend??

Which anti-virus software do you use?. McAfee and Norton are pretty much crap imho, heavy resource hungry rubbish who's realtime protection is meh.  I use ESET Nod32, very cpu/memory efficient, very good at blocking anything dodgy, especially when surfing different websites soon as it sniffs out something dodgy, be it a dodgy page or a dodgy ad it blocks it and lets you know.

Speaking of ads, its defo worth using adblock plus in whatever browser you use, not only does it get rid of annoying ads, but also blocks off ads with malicious code.
575  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Pump-N-Dump on: November 28, 2013, 09:16:08 PM
There's such a strong steady constant upward volume on Bitcoin right now that even with these erratic dumps now it passed $1000, its not causing any major crash, so I'm not too concerned or bothered about it.
576  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: BTC-E.COM Is it a scam and who are they? on: November 28, 2013, 09:09:54 PM
I've used BTC-E to trade Bitcoins for other alt-currencies and doubled my Bitcoin money from it (from surge in litecoin price mostly), no problems there. Can't speak for depositing and withdrawing FIAT money with them though, but for alt-alt crypto trading they work really fast and easy.
577  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Worlds most expensive pizza? on: November 27, 2013, 11:34:16 PM
I wonder how he is feeling now.

I wonder if the person that sold him the pizza cashed out those bitcoins straight away or decided to hang onto them, or maybe even forgot about them...
578  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi: The first anonymous USD Billionair on: November 27, 2013, 11:30:41 PM
Satoshi uses his funds to turn himself into Superman, then goes back in time to found the Illuminati.

more like tony stark. and he uses his exo suit to fight bad mutant politicians and banksters.

If bitcoin becomes "the" global currency, wouldn't that make Satoshi himself the ultimate bankster?

Satoshi the trillionare?

Tis a strange thought isnt it, if 1 Bitcoin ever became worth an insane amount and FIAT was not in hyper-inflation, $100,000 or up, all those holding a large amount of coins would be insanely wealthy, wealthier than all the big oil barons and steel company billionares of the world.

I can't really imagine that happening though, mind you some said the idea of $1000 per coin is utter madness when they were worth just $1 each...
579  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: will the bitcoin reach $1000 one day...? on: November 27, 2013, 05:39:41 PM
Bitcoin has not yet reached £1000.  Sad

It depends on which exchange you go by. If by the Chinese one it touched $1000 a couple days back already. MTGox peaked well over $1000 today.
580  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin on UK TV BBC Newsnight on: November 26, 2013, 12:24:28 AM
bitcoin was mentioned on BBC's newsnight today.

seems that the presenter and a representative from western union world first, along with Max keiser were discussing bitcoin for under 4 minutes. the presenter and WU world first rep hardly gave max keiser a chance to represent bitcoin.

I completely disagree, if anything it was Max who got the most points across, he himself was the one doing most of the interrupting and I thought his points came through pretty clearly.
