Major software update soon:
- bugfixes from ByteCoin
- Mac OSX build fixed

This doesn't really prevent botnets... you can just torrent the blockchain and distribute it amongst all peers in the botnet.  Worse, it totally breaks any chance of having SPV clients in the future.

It looks like that the most modern desktop CPU like core i7 yields the best performance. I need to get my server retired because it is not relevant any more

After reading the post above, I've got a guick question to MRO miners. I was planning on using a few old servers (6 CORE OPTERON 32GB) and mining MRO but was wondering if I've perhaps missed the the boat and there is no point? Is there a way I can work out what I can expect or can anybody give me a rough idea?

Current network hashrate is diff / 60

Everyday there are 24*60 blocks miner

so (your_hr / network_hr) * (24 * 60) = number of blocks per day

Pools will be up soon in any case.

GUI client most wanted.

othe is working on it, hopefully one will be available soon.

i am still offering 1000 MRO bounty for first open source pool.

Are you executing it somewhere that requires root permissions?  Other than that I don't know.

what to expect from a I7-quad mining?

Couple of blocks a day on linux

For people looking to sync their linux machines, I have uploaded a recent blockchain.bin here: DOWNLOAD

Do i have to backup the wallet.bin file?

Ideally, the keys can be used to recover everything in theory but we haven't figured out exactly how to yet.

i have a newbie question. I have become familiar with mining using windows.thanks for all the help. However, the hash on the other platform seems higher. i think it is ubuntu.

is ubuntu linux.
can ubuntu be installed and run on my current system or do i have to uninstall windows.

is there a step by step guide installing ubuntu (linux)

thank you

You can install it alongside Windows. There is an option in the installer to do so.  So you just burn the 13.10 iso or put it on a USB with RUFUS and boot, install

Update on GUI: othe from VertCoin has notified me that he is working on it.

It is the end of solo mining: Estimated Hashrate: 9392 H/s

Not quite; with a newer Intel Quad at 16 H/s, you will still get 2.5 blocks per day or so at difficulty 565000.

fresh install of 13.10 works fine, i recommend you just shrink your volume a bit and install it alongside your current linux part.
573  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore XPM GPU Miner discussion on: April 28, 2014, 04:32:57 PM
is it true that the v4.0 consume similar power as scrypt mining?
Which would only mean it is optimized to full potential, right?

Not necessary, right? Speed increase vs power consumption increase might not be worth it?

I'll hook up my Kill-A-Watt meter later on in the day and show what one 7970 does in my AMD system.
Can you also compare the performance/watt usage results of +nofee option and v3.0.

I'm just comparing with the fee on.

Here's my findings with a single 7970:
Idle: 125 watts
Claymore v4.0: 344 watts (1080core/1500mem)/360 watts (1150core/1500mem)
Primegpu v2.00: 342 watts (1080core/1500mem)/354 watts (1150core/1500mem)
Scrypt: 436 watts (1080core/1500mem) @ 750 kh/s

+ They generate much less heat for me, and the summer is starting here

It's dramatic on multiGPU setups.  For me, 3x 7970 on scrypt is 825 W, while Claymore was 545 W.

update on pools:
The NOMP guy (zone117x) is looking to fork his open source software and get a pool going, so one should hopefully be up soon.

update on faucet:
Free monero has been sent to everyone who PM'd me.

I’ve got this error repeating over and over.
I think it's still mining however.

type "exit" then restart the daemon.

I haven't seen this before.  However, you should be able to access the wallet from backed up wallet.bin files.  Remember to always exit the wallet with "exit".
No backup. Is it possible to recover from wallet.bin.keys and wallet.bin.address.txt? It appears bitmonerod wiped my wallet.bin  Sad

I am not sure, but I think you should be able to.  wallet.dat I believe includes all the regenerated private keys using your master key (wallet.bin.keys) and nonces found on the blockchain.  However, getting it to rescan all the blocks is a problem.  Let me look at the source code.

You might be able to get it to manually rescan by deleting the blockchain data in .bitmonero, starting the daemon and the wallet, letting the daemon download all the blocks again, and then entering "refresh" in the wallet.
577  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [BCN][BMR] Hashrate is growing in both CryptoNote-based currencies on: April 28, 2014, 04:02:10 PM
Current MRO hash rate is 9190 H/s

How about BCN?

difficulty / 120, you'll have to sync the daemon and check with "set_log 1"

All,

It looks like there is a way to decrease block time to eh ... seconds https://eprint.iacr.org/2013/881.pdf Is it practical to do so?

The practicality of this has been debated, because at the point when blocks are generated in seconds you end up with massive bandwidth loss due to most blocks containing duplicate tx (which the paper doesn't really address).  Still, it's good as an "orphan capture" technology that adds orphan work to the main chain to help further secure it, hence why ethereum is using it with 1 minute blocks.

So, I installed the Windows package, downloaded the blockchain successfully, worked out the firewall rules, and actually got the daemon to show that I was hashing. CPU usage with the daemon running is > 95%. I have a 2.8 GH AMD Sempron processor, 8 GB of RAM, on a 64-bit Windows 8 machine.

The problem is that the highest hash rate I have seen so far is 0.1 H/s. Most of the time it is showing zero.

What's with that??

At this point, I don't see any reason to run my processor at 100% if I am not getting any significant hashing power out of the deal

Any suggestions?

Rick

That CPU is likely too slow, especially if you're hashing with GPUs on that machine.
