So it all depends on the fact if I feel like being a dick or not. Sounds dangerous Chris. Tongue

That's a little on the half-empty side, but yes. LOL I'm always reminded of the many times that we ran out of products, from those for sale like our 2018 GOLD pennies or those given away for free like our 2019 ZEPHER pennies. In all cases, there were a very limited number, and in the end, after all the coins were claimed, several members were generously offering one or more of their coins to other fellow collectors who had missed the opportunity. Sure, some people succumb to their greedier natures, but on the whole, I like to believe in the overall goodness and generosity of our unique collecting community here at BitcoinTalk.org. We're all in this together. (But a little friendly competition never hurts, either.) Wink

(And again, I am not convinced that the seller should play the role of morality police.)

Regards,
Chris

Thanks for playing in this auction, everyone! Smiley

Since there are only 10 of these coins being made and one among the rarest Bitcoin Penny coins ever minted, can we have an auction rule like a user can bid only on 1 coin. This would make 7 different individuals to have 7 coins instead of 1 guy having 4 or 5 or 7 coins. I guess this would be a better idea since 7 of the unique collectors would be having a hand on these rarities. Hearing other's opinion on this!

That's a good question, H_H. Thanks for asking it. We used to hold our more rare and exclusive sales/auctions in that same way, with a small purchase limit per person. However, I've always wondered if it might be wiser to simply let the people bid freely and determine for themselves what bids or purchases are fair and responsible according to their own community beliefs. (In other words, I am not convinced that the seller should play the role of morality police.) In summary, this "no limit" multi-auction is a kind of experiment. However, I fully expect that, in the end, everything will work out in the best way. Smiley

Good luck, everyone!

Regards,
Chris
564  Economy / Collectibles / [AUCTION] Bitcoin Penny™ 2020 Sample Coins | 7 of 10 on: November 18, 2019, 04:14:31 PM
THE RUMORS ARE TRUE — Bitcoin Penny™ Commemorative Coins are CHANGING!

Starting in 2020, our classic Copper Collection will increase in size from 23mm to a slightly larger 25mm. This size change gives us a larger palette for more intricate designs. Plus, it’s easier to apply our custom holographic security stickers to your beloved DIY Mini Physicals (our physical bitcoins). In addition, the metal content is also changing from the previous 97% copper to a brilliant .999 FINE COPPER! And to add a tasty cherry on top of all this coppery goodness, our 2020 Copper Collection will be minted by the very same mint that produces our stellar Prescious Metals Collections! (And that means many more MS68 grades and above!)

While these changes do increase our production costs significantly, we plan to continue offering our little coins at the same low prices as always.

To help offset our increased production costs, we are auctioning seven (7) individual sample coins that we had minted in advance of next year’s release. These sample coins were minted in the same 25mm size and .999 FINE COPPER purity as our upcoming 2020 Copper Collection. They feature the double-sided SILVER EAGLE designs from our 2019 Precious Metals Collection — both the Right-Facing Eagle and the rarer Left-Facing Eagle. (We already had those dies in the 25mm sizes, so naturally we used them for these samples.)

Only ten (10) of these sample coins were ever minted, so they are quite rare. The remaining three (3) are currently being used for patina and packaging experiments.

NOTE: Once again, these sample coins are made from .999 FINE COPPER. They are NOT made from 1/4 OZ SILVER as stamped on the coins.

AUCTION RULES

This is a short 72-hour multi-auction. Each of these seven (7) sample coins will be auctioned SEPARATELY. In other words, you are bidding on one (1) sample coin per bid. If you wish to bid on more than one (1) sample coin, then please place your multiple bids in the following (or similar) format:

Quote from: YOU
2 coins @ .0105 BTC each
3 coins@ .02 BTC each
…so forth and so on…

Starting Bid: 0.0000 BTC
Bid Increments: 0.0001 BTC

Start Time: Immediately
End Time: Thursday, November 21, 2019 @ 11AM EST (GMT -5:00).

Anti-Sniping Rule / Grace Period: There will be a grace period of ten (10) minutes following the last bid. When ten (10) minutes pass without a new bid, the auction will be officially ended. For example, if someone places a bid on Thursday, November 21 at 10:55 AM, then the auction will extend until 11:05 AM. If another bid is placed at 11:03 AM, then the auction extends until 11:13 AM, and so forth.

Newbie / Alt- Rule: Any bid from a newbie member whose registration date falls after the original posting of this auction may be subject to cancellation.

i don't doubt your experience, but when the boxes go for 500 bucks that has to get one's attention.  Do they think this crypto card is going to go even higher!!??  The rookies for that year are ok, but there is no George Brett, right?

Please feel free to doubt my experience. I won't take offense. It's good to question. I've only been doing this as long as most of you. I just happen to be researching/buying/investing in many more baseball cards than just the A&G/Ginter cards. I've spent a lot of time learning about baseball cards, the brands, the market, the long-term investment aspect, and the cyclical selling/distribution of those cards. (I've got quite an impressive collection of Javier Baez rookie cards.) For example, it's common advice not to bother selling your baseball cards from after the post-season has ended until spring training has started. Those months are very slow for baseball card sales, and the prices fall dramatically. An exception is Christmas sales. Plus, sales go in short cycles depending on the release date of the next series released. For example, if Topps Chrome cards are released on July 1, then they will be the hot card to buy/flip/sell until the Bowman Chrome cards are released on September 1. At that time, most pro sellers are busy chasing the new releases, so they're less interested in the older releases. That's why interest seems to die off. The cards aren't all gone. They're simply being saved for later years in hopes that the cases will someday be worth a lot more money. It's a long-term investment strategy. (The hot rookie today may wash out tomorrow, and the so-so rookie today may become a superstar tomorrow. You never know what may happen, which is why pro collectors save cases for the future. It's a long-term investment.)

And I have to respectfully disagree about the rookies from 2018 being "ok." I've spoken with several pro collectors, and they all say the same thing: In any given year, you're lucky to get one really great rookie. However, the 2018 year was phenomenal, because it gave us MANY really great rookies — Ohtani, Acuna, Soto, Torres, Andujar, Albies... In fact, I'd wager that the wide assortment of future HOF players from the 2018 season is one of the biggest reasons why pro collectors are HODLing sealed cases. (That, and as I said above, they're simply focusing on the next/newest releases. After all, this is their business. They make a living on focusing on the newest releases and HODLing the older releases. Their business formula goes something like: Buy X number of cases, crack and flip Y of those for short-term profit, save the remaining Z for long-term investment.)

At least, that's the info that I've been given from pro baseball card investors.

Regards,
Chris

That solar powered solar eclipse that I gave away, went to a well respected member of this forum. Glad that he got it.

Me too, I am hoping the silver mini #83 will show up in one of the two remaining boxes owned by members on this forum.  As far as I know there are only three boxes left unopened unless there are some that have been tucked away and never opened.

I can assure you that there are probably dozens of Ginter X cases — not boxes, cases — left sealed and unopened. That's what pro card sellers do. They buy several cases at a time, store them sealed and in pristine condition, then place them on the market years later. Just because we don't see them on eBay doesn't mean they don't exist. (Lots of negatives in that sentence, but you know what I mean.)

However, I do hope that you pull the silver mini in one of your remaining boxes. It would be nice to see it found by a forum member. Good luck.

Me

I found wood mini's for 2018 A&G when I looked on ebay for the sold wood mini's.  Of course finding the #83 is a whole different story.  There were quite a lot more boxes made of where the wood mini is most likely hiding so I am focused on the silver mini as there is only a few boxes left in my opinion.  Would be happy with a red mini or even a black mini especially if they graded a psa 10.  Either way the red mini's are a 25K card when its time comes.

FWIW, not all of the wood mini cards were lost. Only the base cards 1-300 were lost. The wood mini cards that you've seen in the wild are the high number cards which were found inside the rip cards only, and were correctly distributed.

Chris
571  Economy / Collectibles / [SALE] The First Physical Dogecoin | Crypto Imperator #001 | 10K DOGE | MS68 on: November 09, 2019, 06:58:43 PM
I've decided to take offers on a very special coin and the STAR of my personal collection — the 2014 Crypto Imperator 10,000 Physical Dogecoin with Serial Number 001. (Yes, it's FULLY FUNDED.)

This beautiful little coin is special for 3 important reasons.

FIRST, this brass 10K DOGE was the very first coin ever released by the popular Crypto Imperator (who has since released many more highly collectible coins to the crypto-community).

SECOND, only the first 100 of these 10K DOGE coins were serialized, and this is the very first of those serialized coins with SERIAL #001.

THIRD (and perhaps the most important), Crypto Imperator's 10K DOGE was the very first PRE-FUNDED physical Dogecoin. Ever.

So to summarize... this particular specimen is the very FIRST serial number of the very FIRST Crypto Imperator release which was the very FIRST pre-funded physical Dogecoin. Ever. (Impressive, right?)

* Serial number 001 is laser-engraved below the public first bits.

Price = .3 BTC. SOLD

Chris

575  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [INFO] Topps Allen & Ginter Reference Thread on: October 31, 2019, 08:59:10 PM
I found a few mislabeled ginter cards by PSA that completely shocked me.  The smallest minor error by PSA could result in a huge difference in value.  When buying make sure the card matches the label or you could end up over paying and a slight chance you can pick up a treasure if you know what you are looking for.

PSA error cards are OK, but fairly common. (The PSA variety aren't really error cards, IMO. They are simply mislabeled cards.) I prefer error cards by the card manufacturer. (Still fairly common, tho.) For example, my favorite player is Javier Baez of the Chicago Cubs, and I found this little gem on eBay a few weeks ago. It's a Javier Baez relic card, but it has the hand-scribbled notes that belong inside the Dan Rather relic card.

Here are photos of my error card along with pics of what the two cards should look like. (FWIW, I haven't found another one of these Baez/Rather error cards.)
