Also, if I were to build a mining rig (thinking about 3x5770) would it be profitable? As in would it pay for itself + more over time? If so, how long would that take?

Use this: http://tpbitcalc.appspot.com

3x5770 would get you around 600MH/second I think. Check here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison
582  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bit-pay Merchant Solutions for Charities & Non-Profits on: October 07, 2011, 03:21:12 AM
We have a 501(c)(3) organization now accepting Bitcoin donations with Bit-Pay.

http://templeoftantra.org/

We have verified their status with the IRS and Bit-Pay will process all Bitcoin donations free of charge for the charity!

Your payment page looks pretty good. I hadn't seen it until now.

There haven't been much news from Camp BX lately... Are SEPA transfers still on the roadmap?
584  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Flexcoin Payments went out on: October 06, 2011, 06:06:05 PM
Wow... 6.5% interest. That's a lot more than last month and it is much more than the 1% fee. Looks like a lot of people withdrew money during September.

I'm seeing 0.2867%, which annualizes to about 3.4%  Last month was .004867%, or 5.8% annually.

I just found out that this is based on a daily average. I withdrew some money during the month so my 6.5% is wrong...
585  Economy / Speculation / Re: Does anyone know what makes the price stagnate for days on end? on: October 06, 2011, 05:32:39 PM
...

Believe me, there are way more than one bot. A lot of people are doing arbitrage at MtGox and TradeHill. CampBX and ExchB also have some players...
586  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Too many new coins, not enough new Bitcoiners on: October 06, 2011, 04:45:44 PM
The coin production will halve next year. Just relax and wait. Inflation will go away eventually...
587  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin7.com 'hacked'. Database and wallets 'stolen' on: October 06, 2011, 04:31:03 PM
I liked the way CampBX handled their shit from the beginning, and I still think they are the way to go in the long run. They just need some market makers Smiley You can tell their knowledge and effort are above average.

We haven't heard from them for I while... I wonder what they have been up to. I would really like to have SEPA transfers for example.

As for bitcoin7, I wasn't expecting this. A lot of people were using it so I thought they had appropriate security measures in place.
588  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] bitaddress.org Safe JavaScript Bitcoin address/private key [BOUNTY 0.1BTC] on: October 06, 2011, 03:59:49 AM
This is making me think I should create a tab to convert between different private key formats. I like just showing one private key format on bitaddress to keep things simple otherwise people might think they need both private keys and not realize the two private keys are equivalent and just being shown in a different format. Although, I'd rather contact MtGox and have them add the Sipa Wallet Import Format (WIF), I had to do some manual JavaScript work to convert from WIF to HEX to redeem at MtGox.

Couldn't you just make a few checkboxes or something?
589  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BOUNTY] 1000 BTC for getting a major business to accept Bitcoin on: October 05, 2011, 11:37:22 PM
I doubt that any business with 100 millions USD of revenue would accept bitcoins right now. Do you realize how much a 1% shift in Bitcoin price (which happens everyday) would affect the company? Million dollar companies don't play the roulette with their revenues. Every dollar is accounted for.

It's important for people to understand that exchange rate risk has been virtually eliminated by at least one company, Bit-pay.com.  They are an ideal candidate to provide the merchant solution for any sizable business. They enable the business to receive the Bitcoins automatically converted into USD instantly.

Yes, bit-pay is the only acceptable way of doing it. Proposing Bitcoin to a big company without mentioning bit-pay would never work (also, don't forget that bit-pay is limited to US only).

592  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why is crossing any whole dollar price so psychologially difficult? on: October 04, 2011, 03:35:17 AM
So, have we scared off the 'speculators'?

I do not believe so. There was a similar stagnation during the last 10 days of July and look where we are now...
593  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My company is asking for business ideas. I can give 10 min pitch about bitcoins. on: October 03, 2011, 05:34:47 PM
Our company is going through a strategic shift.  The CEO sent out an email asking for people for ideas.  If I have an idea I will get the opportunity to stand in front of the CEO and management for 10 min to talk about whatever I want.  I don't know how bitcoins can help the health or well-being industry.  Maybe I have not thought of it yet.

I just think there is a small chance that if the idea is good enough then my company would be able to fund a bitcoin project.  What is in it for you?  Well, I can't give you anything.  This is more of an attempt by me to promote bitcoins because I believe in it.  And if a company with money could develop something relating to bitcoins it would just be a bonus for the bitcoin economy.

I understand and maybe someone will come up with a nice idea. I just think that 5 years is a lot of time. Meanwhile, Bitcoin could be legally forbidden in your country, a better crypto currency might come along, someone could "destroy" the network with constant 51% attacks, etc. It's a high risk investment.

But good luck with that.
594  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My company is asking for business ideas. I can give 10 min pitch about bitcoins. on: October 03, 2011, 05:15:38 PM
Just don't do it... You won't be able to answer most of the questions. A 5 year revenue plan doesn't make any sense. Who knows where we will Bitcoin be 5 years from now...
595  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: I want to teach you how to make money. [Sticky Please] on: October 03, 2011, 05:24:48 AM
Update:

Restarted the system. Balance is 1443.33

Next time I "stop" the system the balance should be around 1700.00

Maria.

I didn't get it... What happens if you don't stop the system? Will you lose money?
596  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So it's fair to say bitcoins are worth $5 bucks? on: October 03, 2011, 02:22:30 AM
Well in July we pretty much had the same thing and look what happened.

Exactly. Look at the last 10 days of July. At the time everyone said that a bitcoin was worth $14.
597  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Getting feet wet - SOLO ONLY hardware list on: October 01, 2011, 07:08:11 PM
The card uses 19W.  About 0.7 Mhash/s per watt isn't very good, but not terrible either.  166 kWh/year for a 1:17 chance to win 50.fees bitcoins at current difficulty is not bad.  The power isn't free (I don't pay for it, but I care about it), but the alternative to mining is an electrical oven.  I don't care that much about 2.82 BTC a year either, providing no pool downtime or difficulty changes, but I would care about a anonymous virgin block of 50 + fees.

Good luck with that then. Next year we will have the 7000 series and probably FPGAs/ASICs so your 20 years will become 100 years and then 1000 years and you still won't have any coins.
598  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ERROR: Cannot connect to localhost: Connection refused on: October 01, 2011, 07:00:44 PM
Choose one of the pools from here. You can register at http://deepbit.net  for example. Now add your user/pass and the pool URL to the miner. See here for instructions: https://deepbit.net/help.php

Since you seem to be casual mining, don't forget to take a look here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison
Find your GPU card on that list and then input the Mhash/s value here: http://tpbitcalc.appspot.com/

You can now see how many bitcoins you will earn per day (probably not many...)
599  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ERROR: Cannot connect to localhost: Connection refused on: October 01, 2011, 10:30:38 AM
You must mine at a pool. Where do all this people trying to solo mine come from? Is the mining tutorial aimed at solo mining or something?
600  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why is crossing any whole dollar price so psychologially difficult? on: October 01, 2011, 04:12:24 AM
I personally like to place my trades at $5.072912 or something just to make it random.

I do that too. I think about what will be the highest/lowest price and then I add random decimal places to it.  Cool
