921  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New Ixcoin fork -> I0coin (or IBcoin) on: August 13, 2011, 07:18:40 AM
Well, the differences from the original code aren't many. I bet we could make a little program to create currencies. You choose:
- Name
- BTC per block
- Difficulty increase
(...)

Then click a button and that's it. You have another currency  Cool

I could try to do it, but I don't have the time at the moment...

I'm not a fool, I am a profiteer without shame!

Well, I don't blame you. Ixcoins are for you! Cool

But I am curious to know if Thomas can build a currency with people that only want to profit from speculation. We'll see...

Truthfully I do not understand why all the hate for IXC, how is it a threat to BTC, serious question?

As for me, I don't think it is a threat to BTC. Ixcoins can harm or benefit bitoins. It is too early to tell.

What I don't like is the idea behind it (which is none). I believe in BTC and I support it. Ixcoins only have one motivation: profit. I think it is wrong from a conceptual point of view.

I'll put 100BTC in any escrow that we can both agree upon and when I PROVE it!

It's mine or if I can't It's yours.

DDOS are usually made from botnets with thousands of compromised machines, you cannot charge the machine owners or ISP's for that traffic

The idea is that the money you currently pay to your ISP will be partly divided among the sites you visit. This could be interesting not only to defeat DDOS, but also to help supporting websites.
926  Other / Archival / Re: delete on: August 12, 2011, 11:19:02 PM
On the bright side, we now know what critical defect in bitcoins are solved by ixcoins -- insufficient divisibility.

I really laughed. Cheesy

You will also have to contact every hosting service to tell them to start accepting payments. How will I earn money with my web server running at my laptop in my basement? And how are you going to pay me Euros when I get visits from Zimbabwe?
928  Other / Off-topic / Re: DDoS, the ultimate solution on: August 12, 2011, 11:06:55 PM
Interesting concept. But how did you develop this solution? You created an ISP?

Well, can't I just buy girls with bitcoins?

Good point. How many merchants accept bitcion currently?

932  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: bitmarket.eu sucks on: August 12, 2011, 08:42:06 PM
Im not a fan of them because, if I understand it right, they have a fairly limited API and don't allow you to trade with it. The API is market data only - lame!

It doesn't make sense for them to have an API. The trades are not handled by them.

I have a bitmarket.eu account. It took 2 or 3 days to activate. I just gave them my ebay account as a reference (I only bought on ebay, but I have a clean record). I am glad that they don't allow everyone in. It's an exchange based on trust and I hope it stays that way.

So, OP, why do you need to use bitmarket so bad?
933  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: IxCoin is a SCAM on: August 12, 2011, 07:40:07 PM
DoubleC did you read that above? He doesn't think your exchange is legitimate.

From what I understand, he is just saying that he won't support it. I won't support it either because I don't believe in ixcoins. It's nothing personal. It's just that not everything is about profit for me. I was like the 4th person to comment the thread so I could have been a really early adopter, but I chose not to. I don't like it.

I really like the idea behind bitcoins and I want it to succeed. With ixcoins...Well, I just see profit profit profit. Nothing new.

Level 9 - is the swf supposed to 404?

I'm there too and I'm clueless  Huh
935  Other / Off-topic / Re: test out my game on: August 12, 2011, 05:58:44 PM
edit: in fact one of the levels involves hacking a cookie

OK, thank you Wink Level 6 done with python. Moving on to the 7th...
936  Other / Off-topic / Re: test out my game on: August 12, 2011, 05:36:18 PM
Lol, I'm probably not cut out for this sort of game if I can't get past the 1st level, eh?  Tongue

There are lots of games like this around the web (not trying do demotivate OP. he has done a great work here) and the first level is always looking at the source code. I almost wish I could start on level 2 Tongue

I am having some trouble loading levels. Do you use cookies or something? I had cookies turned off because I thought level codes would be enough, but they don't seem to work...

I don't see a problem here. Change the code and most of the users will use the new version. Problem solved.

Does that imply that the current chain is invalid, or we just need to update the client?
939  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Ixcoin - a new Bitcoin fork on: August 12, 2011, 04:09:33 PM
There's a guy here saying the code will break once it reaches 21 million coins

It's pretty good, also at level 5, probably a javascript test.

There's no spoiler tag? Well, I guess this will do Tongue

There's a variable missing that throws an exception. Either he forgot it or we are supposed to guess...
