581  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) CLOSED AND COMPLETED! on: June 03, 2013, 02:25:19 PM
Got mine today. Apparently theres an issue with using cgminer 3.2.0 with ubuntu. so worked fine after downgrading to 3.1.1. Will try on the pi later...  Boy these run hot.

3.1.1

Thanks works perfectly with 3.1.1 . Will keep an eye out for direct usb linux support.

pastebin (don't paste here) the output of the end of 'dmesg' when you plug the AMU in
also 2 cgminer outputs:
1) cgminer -n
2) cgminer -D -T -verbose ... your options ... 2> debug.log
and let that run for about 30 seconds - and pastebin it or upload the log somewhere

I don't have a powered hub, I guess I better get one to see what's happening myself
(tried to get one last week and oddly none of the shops I went to had one ... except one that was crap)

One other thing to try is to leave it unplugged for about a minute then see if that fixes it
I had mine go into a weird state not being recognised after using different OSs and being left unplugged for a while fixed it for me
The error I got when this happened in the debug log was an error 4 setting the baud
I might try see if that is reproduceable - the error and the unplug fix, and if so, when it happens print a message to do that.

Here you go: http://pastebin.com/tRWSfvNV

I hope it helps. I would be happy to provide more info, if needed.

Leaving it unplugged for a minute had no effect.

Thank you kano and fydel!

Some additional data: http://pastebin.com/2W2wte3z Smiley Note: rpi -> usb hub -> 1 AMU

Regarding the hub: just connected a single AMU directly to the rpi (usb hub disconnected, rpi power cycled) and have had the same issue. Guess the powered usb hub is not the cause.
Same eror there also
Code:

Yep trying to sort out what causes it (and what fixes it) ...

Is this resolved yet? If so how?

I too see

Ive added the udev rules.
The moment i plug it in, /dev/ttyUSB0 is automatically added . I can use the usbtest.py just fine. The result i get is same as what it says it should be.

Now, whenever i run cgminer, it removes the  /dev/ttyUSB0 interface, and i cant get it back without removing and adding the erruptor again.

Tried running cgminer (tried both the master and 3.2.0) , tried both with and without sudo.

Is there a way to force cgminer to use the old serial interface?

Thinking... if the goal is co-location, i dont think datacenters  allow 1kw for 1 or 2u rackspace... its just too dense...

Checking that out. There are plenty of GPU servers that throw that sort of wattage and more so not sure that is a hard and fast rule depending on the nature of the data center and what services they provide.  [...]

The thing is typically a datacenter will bill you per rack unit, and a particular amount of power(and hence cooling expense) comes with it. Generally people that need more power buy more rack units than they need. Ive never investigated this point, but thats my understanding.

hmm... after writing the above i googled a little... it seems power is not an issue.

https://www.stackpop.com/search/colocation  hit search without entering anything, choose cabinet space 1U .. there is a provider offering 15A even...

Trying to fit 512 into a rack mounted server... wish me luck.

Looks good.
Appears to be 2 or 3U.
Possible to fit it all in 1u?

I think the PSU is not gonna take full length space, if thats so then ample room for some embedded computer to control these suckers...

why not sell original Fan + heatsink with it ??
all ztex have Fan + heatsink
I can include it with the heatsink + fan i got it with gratis... but it would probably increase shipping costs and im not very happy with its quality. They generally work fine, but occasionally when powering up one or 2 fans wont startup and needs a slight finger nudge. I have been told by someone thats due to the fact i use a barrel adapter(con3) instead if con2.

If you accept that then ill include the fan + heatsink. If you want me to send you the fan+heatsink as per the close-up shot, thats gonna cost extra.

592  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] ZTEX 1.15y-like 4x Spartan 6 boards on: June 02, 2013, 12:25:18 PM
I'm possibly interested in selling a few ZTEX 1.15y-like boards (100% Ztex 1.15y hardware and software compatible) as I need the money to buy some stuff. It's a shame having to sell some of them as I just got them not long ago.   They mine stably at around 820-880MH/s depending on the cooling - I've been getting them mine nicely at about 840 each stacked together in the hot tropical weather here with a good fan pointed at them.

I'm looking around 6 BTC per board only (no fans, heatsink, USB cable or power adapter) included to start your own mining. Please PM me if you're interested, and confirm your location so that I can calculate the shipping. I'm open to haggling though, so just PM me to ask.

I have 11 boards, but only interested in selling a couple.

Fan + heatsink + power brick + usb cable = 0.5 BTC extra and will possibly increase shipping cost.

Escrow possible at buyers expense.

Thanks,
turtle83

10 units with raspberry pi on top. Happily hashing.

The 11th unit literally on my desktop. On this unit i am trying a different heatsink/fan which works better than the ones with the other 10 boards.

I had the exact same issue with Ubuntu should be similar in CentOS. The problem is that the fglrx module can only be loaded by xorg, so youd need GUI available.

Here is how i run it in "headless" mode.
Set the OS to autologin as your user in GUI. Then throw away the monitor, dont need it anymore. On reboot, your user would get logged in automatically.

Then, when running the mining program (thru ssh or whatever), prepend it with
Code:
DISPLAY=:0.0

If you can get this to work :-
Code:
DISPLAY=:0.0 aticonfig --odgt --od-getclocks
Then the mining application (cgminer, etc) will all work with "DISPLAY=:0.0 " before it.

Technically not headless since it needs user to be logged on locally, but since its now autologged in ... for practical purposes its headless.

Thats the short version... Long version is figure out some kind of minimalistic xserver which loads the fglrx modules....

to my understanding it is possible to run 127USB devices from the one host...... any ideas why i am failing to pass 58? would love to add another 2 racks to that photo for ya!

linux or windows?

I like this case... was thinking off using it for a single GPU rig if i ever needed a proper case for it.

If you use raspi or linux router as the host, then fit more k16 instead of the motherboard. The sideways ventilation could be an added advantage.
596  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Something like a Raspberry Pi .. but with cpu power ? on: May 31, 2013, 10:23:54 PM
in case it helps... i use

Code:
cgminer <snip:pools> --queue=5 --syslog

Dont think that should matter....

Try out my binary and let me know if that helped. Maybe some library you have installed sucks more CPU than it should... If my .deb also sucks cpu, i could give u a dump of each package version i have installed, and then u can compare with yours...
597  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Something like a Raspberry Pi .. but with cpu power ? on: May 31, 2013, 10:03:32 PM
Also no GUI or anything.. just a naked "wheezy" with openvpn and cgminer 3.2.0..

I compiled it myself directly on the pi.. disabled anything but ztex fpga's ..

Hmm, I'll try your binary.. Strange..

And... also how much memory does your system have? Have u tuned the amount of memory allocated for GPU? Maybe if its starved of memory cgminer needs to do more stuff? Just speculating...
598  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Something like a Raspberry Pi .. but with cpu power ? on: May 31, 2013, 09:53:11 PM
Hey,

I'm using a rpi with some fpga boards but already hitting the limits of the ARM cpu with something around 10 boards.. Load is quite high even though it's already overclocked and cgminer usually uses us relatively low cpu.

Is there something (embedded) which is as easy to set up as an rpi but has more/enough cpu power ? A beagleboard is too expensive, could also buy an eee pc for that.. But maybe someone has an other idea ?

beaglebone black is for ~$45 - 50. Its for 20-30% more juice.

BTW which board do you run with pi? I run 10 ztex quads @20 - 25% cpu on pi model B

Hmm strange, me too... 10 ztex @ 70% CPU... Which version of cgminer are you using ? Any special options ? My system load is always around 0.70 - 0.75 ..

The load average is irrelavent, but 70% CPU sounds like a lot.

I used 3.1.0, 3.1.1 and currently on 3.2.0 all use similar CPU ... The binary i use is linked from my sig.

FWIW i use Raspbian Server Edition from http://sirlagz.net/2013/02/14/raspbian-server-edition-version-2-3/ and not running any fancy GUI things on it.

Are you using model A or B?

As a linux user & admin of ~14 years I think its revolting to see someone so rude and entitled come out of the OSS camp.

I doubt the 14 years claim. You obviously have not interacted with anyone else in the OSS camp Smiley
