NNTP support is definitely an idea I like, but I don't think it's important enough of a feature to require in the first version. There are probably only dozens of people who would use it.
5962  Other / Meta / Re: Moderation policy? on: October 18, 2011, 04:29:10 AM
Yeah, I stumbled across it and deleted it.
5963  Other / Meta / Re: How do you manage to read this forum ? (Suggestions) on: October 18, 2011, 02:45:34 AM
I skim four of the main sections on every visit, and a couple others every once in a while. The others I don't read unless someone points me to a topic there. I check my "show new replies to your posts" a lot.

The next forum software is required to have a watchlist feature, which I think will help a lot.

Later on other ways of viewing topics might be added. For example, topics could be viewed in a strict chronological order without bumping so you don't miss any topics. You could also maintain a list of people you like and have topics they post in highlighted.

I don't like global ratings (like Reddit). While I agree that these communities are often fun, it is difficult to express controversial opinions with such systems.
5964  Other / Meta / Re: BitcoinEXpress on: October 17, 2011, 09:24:51 PM
I would have deleted that reply in the OP (and other replies in that topic), as it is off-topic. The topic is locked now, so I'm not going to waste time with it.

I haven't gone through many of BitcoinEXpress's posts, but he's never had any valid reports on his posts except for the one in the OP. Those posts I did skim through contained reasonable arguments. I don't care if he insults people as long as he also posts constructive, on-topic ideas.
5965  Other / Off-topic / Re: The $1.91 Debt on: October 16, 2011, 01:52:58 AM
He borrowed much more from me in the past. I have no doubt he'll pay it back.

Although I am sure everyone knows you meant October, I will be the fella who mentions the mistype.

My apologies in advance for being "that guy"
Wink

Thanks. I fixed it.

Probably I'll have the month perfectly memorized no earlier than the 31st. Smiley

The auctions end should be announced in the start post, including GMT-Time.

It was:
- Auction ends: exactly 4 days after the time of this post

When does the auction end?

October 15 12:29:29 AM, US central time. Exactly 4 days from the time of the OP.

This auction ends 7 days from the time of the OP. That's 08:28:30 UTC on the 22nd of October.
5968  Economy / Services / Re: Advertise on this forum - Round 5 on: October 15, 2011, 08:50:29 AM
How come you ended Round 4 only 5 days after you posted it? -_-;

That's when it was scheduled to end. This auction is longer.
5969  Economy / Services / Re: Advertise on this forum - Round 4 on: October 15, 2011, 08:32:15 AM
The auction has ended. I've verified that Dree12's last list is the final result. Winners have received PMs, and I'll put up the ads late today (assuming I receive all payments and info in time).

I think this format was pretty successful. It seemed to run smoothly once the exact rules were figured out, and the forum raised more BTC than any previous round.

Thanks to dree12 for keeping track of the bids.

In order to collect more money for the creation of good forum software, the forum is selling ad space in the area beneath the first post of every topic page.

Your visible ad text (ignoring link URLs, etc.) must be less than 150 characters in length, and it can only contain links: no other style. It will be prefixed with "Advertisement:". Ad text may not contain lies, misrepresentation, or inappropriate language. Ads may be rejected for other reasons.

There are 10 total ad slots which are randomly rotated. So one ad slot has a one in ten chance of appearing. Eight of the slots are for sale here. (One of the remaining slots has random factoids, and one links to the current ad auction.)

The ad lasts 7 days starting from when I put it up.

Stats: On the 27th of September, 2011 there were about 730,000 views of topics. So one slot would have appeared around 73,000 times per day. The ad doesn't appear on topic pages with only one post, though, and it only appears for people using the default theme.

Info about the current ad slots:

Auction rules

Post your bids in this thread. Prices must be stated in BTC per slot. You must state the max number of slots you want. When the auction ends, the highest bidders will have their slots filled until all eight slots are filled.

So if someone bids for 8 slots @ 5 BTC and this is the highest bid, then he'll get all 8 slots. If the two highest bids are 8 slots @ 4 BTC and 1 slot @ 5 BTC, then the first person will get 7 slots and the second person will get 1 slot.

- When you bid, all of your previous bids are automatically canceled.
- All bid prices must be divisible by 0.5.
- The bidding starts at 0.5.
- The auction ends exactly 7 days after the time of this post. (Hint: if you have your local timezone configured in the forum settings, this time will be very easy to figure out.)
- If two people bid at the same price, the person who bid first will have his slots filled first.
- Bids are considered invalid and will be ignored if they do not specify both a price and a max quantity, or if they could not possibly win any slots

If any valid bids occur less than 30 minutes before the auction end time, then the auction will be extended by 30 minutes. If any valid bids occur less than 30 minutes before the new end time, then the auction will be extended again, etc. The time will not extend beyond 6 hours total.
5971  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: client generated .07 bitcoins...help on: October 15, 2011, 02:54:18 AM
That's what happens when your pool pays out directly from the generation transaction. Everyone who the pool pays sees "Generated" with the appropriate amount.
5972  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitcoinExpress' Message to me on: October 15, 2011, 02:42:10 AM
I can confirm that this was sent.

Cryptoxchange wisely decided to drop any Solidcoin plans after I gave them a demonstration on what they could expect if they supported Solidcoin. Needless to say they decided to wisely to rebuke Solidcoin.

I won't attack BTC-E because they exchange Tenebrix and I hold over 1.25 Million given to me by Lolcust to not fork his chain on launch LOL....

Slowly unloading TBX on BTC-E, so all is good there for the time being.

Free Money Baby, lots of it, and the more people like you, fight with me, the more popular you make me.  Grin Grin Grin

(if there is a problem with this, please point it out!)

I'm just going to consider bids without both a price and a quantity to be invalid.

Thanks for keeping track of the bids.

8 bitcoins

How many slots?
5975  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie restrictions on: October 14, 2011, 02:59:23 AM
I've been reading for months, before making an account, then never posted because I never saw the need to. Now I wanted to post something, and couldn't, took me ages before finding these restrictions. Might I suggest they are actually listed in the profile or something, so wellwilling people can actually know about it?

It's in the "registration agreement" now, so most new users should notice it.

@theymos - how many more times you going to be doing this?

Until we switch to the new software. Hopefully not more than a month or two.

The only source for this seems to be that one Google+ post, so I'm still hopeful that it's not true.
5979  Other / Off-topic / Re: Sig Ads - Deleted? WTF? on: October 13, 2011, 05:26:51 AM
Code:
grep "&" g2/*|sed "s/&#\([0-9]\+\)/\\\x\1/g"

\x takes hexadecimal ASCII codes, but the entities used by the forum are decimal Unicode codes.

I don't think it can be done with sed s.

I'm assuming GoWest has priority since he bid first

Right.
