61  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Difficulty jumps 28% on: June 21, 2013, 10:09:09 AM
Dont bother with difficulty guys.

Its very simple.

3600BTC/day global

so for example now i have 1GHs unit and global hash rate is 100THs

100……..3600
0.001…….x

x=0.001*3600/100

x=0.036BTC/day

So if the hash rate will be 1000THs in september and i will receive Jupiter from KnC on time it will be like this:

1000…….3600
0.350…….x

x=1.26BTC/day

Dont speculate about difficulty its not important, the number of units in network is not important.

The only important think is your H/s and global H/s nothing else !!!!!!

Its easier to predict the global hash rate than difficulty. Predicting difficulty is wasting of time.

This isn't technically true - if the network has rate doubles before the next difficulty readjustment block then you'll see ~7000 BTC/day.  As it stands difficulty seems to be lagging a fair bit behind so we're likely getting ~400 BTC/day on average.
Let me know if I'm wrong here.

How do I request a cashout?
63  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Is Avalon mining with customer hardware? Answer is here. on: June 18, 2013, 10:55:29 AM
These guys are pretty smart, right?  If they were going to mine for profit don't you think they'd do it solo rather than on a pool where everyone can see?  They certainly have the hash power.
Having said that I still agree that testing profits should go to the people that bought the miners.
64  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Is Avalon mining with customer hardware? Answer is here. on: June 17, 2013, 09:48:55 AM
It does kinda look like testing to my untrained eye, but ethically they should be sending the coins to the payment address.
Having said that, I'm not completely naive...

Personally, I paid for my asic in $ (which I converted to BTC) so I don't care if I earn the BTC back or not, only the $.
If I had paid in BTC (say I earned through mining) then it would be a different story.

I see this a lot, and I think it's kind of a fallacy: You made the decision to buy when BTC was a certain price, and the math told you that you would make back more BTC than you invested. Effectively, you gave up that amount of $ that you could have invested in BTC alone. If you don't earn back the BTC from the miner that you paid on it, it is a worse investment than just buying the BTC in the first place.

Yeah that's actually a good point now I think about it, maybe I'd have been better off just holding the coins :/

discuss.

Doesn't matter if it's a scam, it doesn't look like they'll ever pay for themselves with the currently difficulty rate of change.  Who'd buy them anyway?  Wink

Hey guys I keep getting the following error when I try to restore my backed up wallet file...

https://i.imgur.com/dXwkTLY.png

Any idea what is causing it?  I've tried several computers.

My balance appears ok (as unconfirmed) and it seems to happen as soon as the client starts downloading the blockchain.

FIXED!!

Just had to download the blockchain first, then copy across the wallet file, then it keeps downloading the blockchain again.

So what happened this last 2 weeks then?

Did BFL start delivering more than a couple of units?
Did ASICMiner crank up some more blades?
Are Avalon mining with my unit Sad

If you are going to quote pictures remove the IMG tags.

For example:

Turns into:
http://koshersamurai.files.wordpress.com/2012/11/red-dumbass.jpg

Everyone can still see that it is there IF they want to click on it they can. Now, they don't have to scroll through a bunch of reposted pictures so you can say, "Oooh, cool."

^Well that lasted all of 0 posts... Smiley

The last GB mobo I bought was great (not for mining though and a fews years back) but this one has been a real POS and it wasn't particularly cheap.  Time to switch brands for my next upgrade me thinks

I 'acquired' Win7 ultimate and installed the 32bit version (had 64bit last time and it crashed).  Just go to that big torrent site and it's the one with the highest seeds if you search for 'Windows 7' then installed only:

Realtek network drivers (latest from GB website as the network didn't work first boot)
AMD Drivers version 11.11 (don't ask me why, read somewhere they can be a little quicker but not really imo). I didn't install all the other crap like the AMD transcoding software.
Windows Security Essentials (latest version)
cgminer 3.11
GPU-Z
NOTHING ELSE (e.g. no SP1, no .NET...)

I TURNED OFF automatic updates.  So Windows is miles out of date but if it's a dedicated mining pc it should be ok I think.
I had cgminer running 36 hours with no issues (without overclocking).  However it took a little bit of effort as one of my cards keeps crashing with intensity above 15.
I have 4 x 6950s, all different brands.

Hope that helps!

Got it working - turns out it's a common problem with my MB that only the USB3 ports work :/

I've gone back to Winblows for the time being./

Thanks.

Personally, I consider break even in USD as 'break even'.  It's what I use every day, and over half the cost of mine was in $ as I didn't have the BTC.
I can see how miners who paid solely in BTC consider that to be break even though.
77  Bitcoin / Mining support / Xubuntu not recognising mouse or network - help! on: May 26, 2013, 03:01:31 AM
Hey guys,

I have 4 x 6950s running (well...not really or I wouldn't be here) on a Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 motherboard, it has worked previously but with some stability problems.  Cgminer kept blue screening on close/restart in Windows 7, so using cgwatcher to fix sick/dead cpus caused the pc to crash. After that it would lock on booting and then require a further restart to boot. I tried reinstalling, now it crashes instantly on starting cgminer (tried 3.01 and 2.11.3 also 12.8, 13.1, 13.4 and 13.5 beta AMD drivers).  I've tried BAMT and won't boot with all four cards plugged in (works with one though) so now I'm trying Xubuntu 12.04 which is supposed to be easy.

But...when the installer runs it doesn't pick up my usb mouse (I tried 2, they both work in the bios) or my usb 3 drive (which is where I want to install it).  I tried plugging in a hard drive but it had some error about creating a partition.  Also it won't connect to the network (Realtek chipset I think).

This is beyond a joke now, I can't do anything without a mouse and I can't update anything or mine without internet.  Please help me Sad I'm not a linux expert so any help needs to be clearly explained.

Thanks

uh, yeah, right.  And what is this 'remainder of the price'?
