I see my coupons now .075btc x 3

when do they expire? expiration date is useful to know since it will give an indication when they will be available again for batch 4.

I predict there will be a big drop in price for batch 5, the reason is simple for batch 4 there are a lot of coupons for the people that did not want the refund which reduces the need for price reduction beyond the 7.7% for drop hash rate, and another 9% for difficulty increase, but as expected they will sell out quickly, for batch 5  all the coupons will be gone, and further increases in difficulty will force them to drop the price further, and by then mostly everyone that wanted one will have at least one, once they start selling from stock is when prices will be the lowest, just like it happened with the S1, history repeats. currently the s3 is the best deal for the money that I am aware of.

for me, validity time:

2014-07-12 00:00:00~2014-08-16 00:00:00

What do you recommend me guys then if i plan to run 2 S3 at 212,50 Frequency(~424,81 GH/s? - 362W / each, 724 W total). Use 1 corsair CX750W for 2 S3 with that frequency(212,50 - 362 W), or 1 corsair for each S3, and buy i dont know a 1000W new PSU for 2 more S3.

thanks
I thought they consumed ~360w for the ~480gh?

Is everyone else getting this high of power consumption at that low of speeds?
62  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 23, 2014, 10:16:39 AM
Well the S3's destroyed my Thermaltake 600W PSUs which had previously been powering cubes without any issues. They ran fine with them for about 30 minutes although cables were getting pretty hot, not 100% sure why it killed them yet. One PSU went peacefully, the other gave a nice fireworks display.  Shocked    Ended up using a Corsair RM1000 to power both and they have been running pretty good since, with no hot cables.  Grin

For the past few days one S3 was only avging 380GHs and showed no 'x' and everything looked fine but after a reboot it kicked it somewhat back in gear. Currently around 430GHs avg now. The other has been running fine avging 440GHs. No overclocking attempts at this point.
Thanks for replying, I'm hoping some more will share stories.

Which model thermaltake psu was that? You used it for only one unit?

This is the main reason I am on the search for a quality PSU which can handle the proper power on the 12V rail. I'm worried about using split pci-e cables because 24/7 operation and hot cables doesn't always end up good Sad Problem for me searching is the amount of PCI-e cables that actually come with most sub 1000w psu. I might end up getting a handful of the molex to PCI-e adapters Sad

What power supplies are you guys using to power your units?
64  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: July 23, 2014, 08:06:50 AM
You want to leave your miners outside?

I can protect them from the sun so they would be cooler than inside a room, and in winter, middle part of terrace has roof so no problem and water doesnt get there, also i can protect them with something else.

Thing is its impossible to have 2 or more miners inside a room, so much hot....

How is the humidity?

Very low, i live in madrid, spain.

There are smaller versions, the 3 shelf and 4 shelf version. You might be able to find something local.

Im calling lets see what happens.....  Embarrassed Embarrassed Embarrassed

they are telling me that i have to describe the articles because they dont understand me. I told them they are electronic devices for mining bitcoins, and the girl didnt understand what it was.... i have to send an email explaining it.

ffs

You really should of described it as computer electronics. The word bitcoin never helps. Also you can call it development hardware or something fancy. You can always tone it down and describe it as a computer board with a aluminum shroud and fans, it consists of chips, mosfets, and capacitors as many computers parts do.

Maybe this is not the best advice to give, but I know for sure it's more difficult explaining what a bitcoin asic is then vaguely claiming it's just some computer hardware.

just out of curiosity, how does the rockminer R3 compare to the antminer S3 ?

cost is similar and its bit faster but does consume bit more power. Is that it ?

it definitely consumes more power, and when it comes to GH vs Watt that's what seems to matter the most.
The biggest thing for rockminer is they shipped the R3 weeks ago so many people have had a head start with mining those units.

Is there a go-to power supply any of you have been going to power 2-4 of these units?
Most seem limited on PCI-e cables, I would love to know.
67  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 23, 2014, 07:07:51 AM
Question for you S3 owners.

What is considered the "overclocked" speeds that require 4 PCI-e connectors?

Many power supplies are a pain now a days, I don't know what to do if I plan on running 2 off one PSU because 8PCI-E cables is really not the norm.

On the Supernova 1300 G2 by EVGA it has 6 PCI-E 8pins, and not enough molex to do a molex to pci-e adaptor. Also curious what kind of PSU you all are using for these units.

Any advice will be great, thanks in advance!

the evga has six cables  4 single cables and 2 double cables……

you can use 2 single cables and a double cable filling all 4 jacks.

Been there done that.

As for overclock  225 237 250 = overclock.
That is sort of the thing, 1300W psu to power 2 of these sucks! Is there a go-to power supply people have been using to power 2-3 2-4 of these things?
68  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: {BFL} WHAT THE:!( Butterfly Lads won't deliver the Monarch Till JUNE or JULY:( on: July 23, 2014, 07:05:10 AM
BFL stated they were taping out chips in August 2013 and were ready to ship finished products in November 2013.  They are at least 9 months late on their promises.  I really hope BFL is ready to ship cards in volume when they ship (August?  Maybe September?) and won't repeat their trickle production of 2013 where a few products were shipped per day.  In that scenario some Monarch customers would be receiving their product sometime in 2015 (going on BFL's past performance).

I think it's time people got together. This is a US based company correct? They should not be getting away with this kind of crap.

It's a flat out BS scenario for anyone who has spent their money with these scumbags.

Dude,Sonny paid off the law, only thing that makes sense  Roll Eyes  Yes,you can buy your way out of ANYTHING in Merica!!!! Its like Mexico, but you need millions here instead of a few thousand dollars there Cheesy
There is no denying that.
They have been lucky someone hasn't took matters into their own hands.

Have anyone of you received responses about your batch1 orders?
72  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive RockMiner R3-Box Setup [HD] on: July 22, 2014, 11:17:21 PM
Dogie, by any chance could I motivate you in creating some form of additional cooling to the R3 Box guide? Smiley

Maybe compiling a list of different types of heatsinks (purchased cheap) that can be applied all around the different things of the miner, such as mosfets, to provide additional cooling and possibly prolong the life of the unit?

Mosfets and vregs are designed to operate up to 125C so it won't make a difference. I'm also not a fan of adding hovering metal components to a PCB when not required (hence I never recommended 32 of them on the S1...).

What will make a difference is adding a 4 pin fan onto the other end to get rid of the huge temperature difference between the front and back boards. The header is split pin so you can't use any old fan.

indeed, the fan I agree with, the rest not so much.

Just because something is rated to 125C doesn't mean it performs at it's best or longest when pushed to the limits. These units don't have 2year warranty or even 1year warranty so my goal is not having to repair popped/melted/oozing capacitors or burnt mosfets. Same goes for using 1299w on a 1300w power supply. There is a reason people use good thermal adhesive Wink I wouldn't want a heatsink falling on my board creating some fireworks!

I do appreciate you responding I will just take the guide for what it is and keep the rest towards the community

Get yourself an infrared temp probe and have a look at some of the board temps. I'd be surprised if you saw components over 70C. In terms of failure rates, that's statistically insignificant compared to 50C. You're probably more likely to cause damage trying to mess with them then letting them do their own things. They will not be the source of your failure.
You are right, I should probably get a probe and see what is running the hottest so I can apply the proper heat sinks and proper adhesives.

Any chance you know of the safe/recommended/max temperatures of the chips themselves?

I've been searching a bit, there is no way to set a minimum worker difficulty?

Not on the website. However, I think the server honors difficulty requests sent by stratum as a command-line option of your miner.

Through my research I read that the server actually rejects the command line setting on bfgminer

Really curious if it can or can't be done, can anyone provide answer?

It can not.  There is pretty much zero reason to set a custom difficulty.  The server already pretty aggressively chooses an appropriate difficulty.

Wouldn't having large asics doing higher difficulty ease the load on the server?

I understand a machine can do 1024 difficulty fast, so running 256 will just submit more shares at a more aggressive rate correct?

I was under the impression it was the opposite, that if 1024 was set and the machine could run through it it would end up submitting more shares at a higher rate than 256 from the constant new work and submitting more shares of less difficulty.

(Sorry I am a little bit confused at this point!)

The pool targets each worker submitting 16 shares per minute, or one every ~4 seconds.  Whatever difficulty it takes to do this at your hash rate (higher difficulty, less shares/min) the pool tries to use.  Higher target difficulty shares are worth more, but found less frequently.  Likewise lower target difficulty shares are found more often, but worth proportionally less. (I specifically say target difficulty because the achieved difficulty is meaningless.)

This is to make sure you submit enough shares to make stats usable and at the same time limit the amount needed to send to the pool.  16 shares per minute is pretty aggressive.  Some people want far fewer shares/min (higher difficulty) for some reason, which makes no sense and just adds unnecessary variance.

With the pool setting the difficulty appropriately, the pool can determine what works best for the pool load, also.

I do appreciate you taking the time to explain this.
I kept assuming because my units can do 1024 very quick on majority of pools that I was some how missing out on shares/work done by doing smaller shares at a more "aggressive" rate. I'll be quite honest, I see them buzz through 1024 so when I seen the speed of 256 it just felt as if it was slowed down. Maybe just my perception.

Thank you for explaining Smiley I will continue to give a run on your pool. You have very good feedback and people backing you up.

Let's find blocks now! Smiley Smiley
