Where did this end on year wind down time limit pop up from anyway? Link/quote from Patrick? I hope you didn't pluck that figure out of thin air Micon.

I think it was made up.  I have not specified a time frame.

Is bitcoin lending pretty much dead as a market segment now ?

I suspect loaning them to yourself-on-some-service as collateral might be the new "thing" to take its place;

that is, instead of loaning your bitcoins, using them as collateral to borrow other things.

That way you need not lose out on the gains in value your bitcoins make while "using" them to invest in other things.

-MarkM-

Sure. Someone could setup a service where you deposit bitcoins and can receive USD or other funny money and pay "normal" interest rates on that. Much better than trying to borrow bitcoins at insane rates plus if they default you have their bitcoins  Smiley

The lending segment isn't completely dead, but there is a group of people that have tried their best to kill it off because their opinion is everyone is dishonest.  I know a couple of people still doing lending, and I still get requests to finance various things.

(and seeing this post explains the question about BTC/USD collateral I've just sent a reply to.  In essence, if someone wants to deal in a real currency, make sure you have the right financial licenses/structure/compliance because that is an area where regulations do apply.)

Newsletter has just been sent, and about to do the payments for the week (0.4826%).

And, given the slots in the fund that were not taken up, considering reopening the fund to new members and not doing a Kraken#2.

Interesting to see that there are now some minor bets going on.  The three month date is rather arbitrary and I would suggest people don't waste their time/effort/money on it.  Having accepted deposits and catering to the demand of people that didn't want to get into the loan or investing market directly means (and has always meant) coins would be put into various places.  That includes HashKing and Nckrazze.  It also included a JRO investment (which was suspended a few weeks ago) and some other GLBSE where recent panic has tanked prices or scared away liquidity.  There are also those loans that were not pass-throughs that have decided to simply refuse to repay due to ineptitude of the people concerned.

I do read the interesting array of comments, fair or misguided, but the effort in trying to explain rationale has been proven to be largely pointless.  I did honour a bunch of PPT obligations in August that severely affected the spare coins that I had available (allocating about 10,000 coins), and I continue to turn down lending business that would actually help support the repayment of funds more quickly.  Not because of the likes of Puppet, Micon or many others that like to claim how foolish I am providing a service, but because of my obligations to people that have entrusted funds too me.  So for now, the payment process will continue as outlined.

67  Economy / Lending / Re: Loan Request "Time Sensitive." on: September 19, 2012, 11:24:02 PM
As an observation, 0.916% per week, rather than the 11% stated.
68  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Starfish BCB - Loans and Deposits on: September 19, 2012, 08:35:58 PM
Loans recently repaid from Ravi and JasinLee and payments from Sadpandatech, AndyRossy and Quickbitcoins amongst others.

Mixmastermine has decided to run/default, but it appears others have lost many more coins to him than I have (only 160) so despite him being a good customer earlier in the year, he's not now.  Highlights the importance time-stamping credit ratings because things change (so the paste of the WPW thread material needs to note the time at which the ratings were done.)

Next set of payments scheduled to go out tomorrow as planed/advised.
69  Economy / Lending / Re: Selling pirateat40 debt, hashking debt, Nckrazze, imsaguy debt on: September 18, 2012, 11:23:47 PM
I have offered a swap for the debt owed to me for the Imsaguy deposit.

zer0  Last Active:    June 08, 2012, 11:38:43 PM

Still no updates, dividends or response to PM's...

Any interest in finding out where Zer0 has disappeared to (last seen in June)?  or has anyone had news or contact since then?
71  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] Pirate Pass Through Bonds! on: September 15, 2012, 09:42:31 PM
I noticed there were some people after liquidity on PPT.A and PPT.B so added some bids at 0.32 to give effect to the insurance for those two bonds.

There isn't a bid wall any longer for PPT.A and PPT.B. What's the plan for creating a bidwall for these assets similar to the one that exists for PPT.E?

Fixed.
72  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Why I trust Patrick Harnett on: September 15, 2012, 05:00:43 AM

but you go back to caling people rude instead of answering the real issues like if harnett can make so much
money why does he need to constantly borrow more Huh

Actually, WifeofStarfish doesn't need to defend me or my business, and she wasn't attacking people like the crap that's been thrown at her for attempting to be civil.  It's not necessary for her to explain, and my previous attempts to explain have been ignored or deliberately misconstrued.  AND pull your arse out of your ears, I haven't been taking deposits for weeks (demonstrating the trolls are not interested in what is actually going on).
73  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] MOVETO.FUND - MoveTo Growth Fund on: September 15, 2012, 04:54:12 AM

Yes I know pirate has screwed up a lot of people, and a lot of deposit takers lied and were secretly, non-transparently and dishonestly investing more than they could afford into him (and we're definitely affected by this), but please try not to take it out on me. We will eventually come out of this credit crunch and survive and grow. I will not stop with my mission by running the spreadsheet every day to decide on new positions, to mark the NAV according to the 5-day average trading price for each asset we own, and help take steps to increase transparency in the bitcoin investment world. I believe that, thus far, I have set a good example by being honest and putting my own money on the line right there with my investors. Despite the fact that some were dishonest with me, I have always been honest - it's in my own long-term interest to be honest anyway, not to mention that even if I were dishonest, I would have my assets frozen by Nefario and be immediately doxed by other members. All scammers deserve prison in my opinion, and nothing less. They make me literally sick to my stomach.

Sorry for the rant, but I'm pretty pissed right now at what is going on in the community.

Thought this was worth quoting because it is a common experience, and probably in higher proportion with Bitcoin than normal currencies.  Yes, some people lied and passed funds into Pirate, and others simply screwed up or stole funds sucking a lot of coins out of the economy.  I can understand the shit cytokine is experiencing because I've had it as well, and sticking with it rather than hiding or claiming some "hack" is to be commended.
74  Economy / Securities / Re: Kraken Fund (closed to new accounts) on: September 15, 2012, 04:47:48 AM
I didn't think I had implied that - but certainly working on recovery is a sensible approach.  My contact with the man himself has been pretty limited (non existent the past week), not that I exchanged pm's with him very often.

I have a legal case running in Australia currently to recover funds from someone - so I know the cost and length of time it takes.  But otherwise, my approach is not a public one as that is not how these processes work.

Okay, I wish you the best of luck. I really hope this gets resolved in a good way for all of us.

Thanks.

I was going to say I couldn't think of anyone that would disagree, but unfortunately, there are several people I can think of that want this to all end badly.

Nice to know the private newsletter is getting some circulation and that Chaang took the time to read it.  Fortunately the PPT series retains value and I am committed to paying out on those even if it takes a little time.  I am less sure of the Tygrr bonds which are possibly worthless given the additional issue of liabilities without clarity of assets to back them.  I am also pleased I didn't take up Chaang's request to take over his PPT business on GLBSE although it might have been better for his investors if I had done so (but we'll never know).
Wait, so almost all the PPT operators tried to sell their operations to you when it became obvious the situation was unsustainable?

Like rats off a sinking ship  Cheesy

You mis-typify the PPT.x situation.  Collectively as a group (six of us) there were discussions around how to make it profitable and provide a good return to investors.  One of the things, because of its structure, was that it was quite small compared to the other passthroughs (12k vs 25k for a "trust" account and 150k that Payb.tc was assumed to have).  I didn't agree with some of the suggestions being made and thought they would be too far away from what the contracts allowed.  I could also see a use for the asset and liked how it runs, so I negotiated with the other five holders to purchase their stakes in the business.  Then BS&T closed and things were rather screwed up as I looked after the obligations at the time, and continue to do so.

Other than Chaang, I did not have anyone else ask me to take over their PPTs, but I did have a few people ask if they could operate sub accounts (three people), and the recovery efforts I'm taking aims to have them repaid as well.  Nothing particularly complicated.
77  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Starfish BCB - Loans and Deposits on: September 15, 2012, 01:20:03 AM
That list covered everything, not just Starfish.  There was also my personal BS&T account, and before some of the GLBSE assets that have since been trashed such as the JRO assets.  Thanks for positing it.
So you included your personal BS&T account under "assets"? That was what? 10K?

From March it was 4k at BS&T.  Also had a bunch of hardware, funds from GLBSE and other long term investments.  It was quite straight forward that all of the deposits in Starfish were covered by non BS&T assets - if that's the actual question.  When I brought out the PPT.x series the balance in the account changed, and I had some other funds parked in BS&T (again, not related to starfish, actually related to some mining assets).  The other aspect that doesn't show on the assets/liabilities list are the coins I moved in and out of the account.

Dont let the bastards get you down Patrick.

Actually, they are proving to be slightly irritating noise in the back ground currently, and I rather don't care what they have to say.  The people I do care about are the people that have funds tied up in this mess, and while the trolls may have "saved" people from themselves and can have some nice "I told you so", they are probably the largest contributors to the current situation.  They would of course deny that and probably spend the next few hours explaining why I am wrong.

Anyway, weekly interest has been paid, and available funds (loan repayment proceeds) have been pro-rata paid to those with withdrawal requests.  Transactions will hit the blockchain when the wallet syncs properly.
