Would you consider to back Aurora with gold, land, fiat, or stocks?

It's not planed and I do not think it will ever be on the plan to be honest.

You don't really need to back a cryptocurrency with anything for it to store value as everything has value as long as people believe and decide it is of value.

Could someone summarize the benefits of Auroracoin?

I assume your question is what benefits Auroracoin has over other cryptocurrencies.

As such Auroracoin has the advantage of being distributed and publicly noticed in Iceland.
Auroracoin has no plans of technical advantage over other altcoins but has one of the highest rate for success because of it's distribution within Iceland.

As to why Iceland is a perfect place for a cryptocurrency economy to be born.
These are just some of the reasons what the benefits of Auroracoin are.

  • Iceland has a small population of 330.000 people.
  • We had a complete bank crash in 2008 making people more aware of the dangers the current monetary system.
  • We have the highest internet usage in the world and people here easily adapt to new technologies.
  • We had over 10% of the Icelandic nation claim their portion of Auroracoin in 2014.
  • Everything can be executed in a small scale in a developed economy.

If there is a place in the world that cryptocurrencies would work it would be Iceland.

I've recorded a few times with the camera on the dashboard and it doesn't really have much if any shaking at all so I'm not sure we will need some extra solution.

I would think the main thing is if we should have it on the dashboard or on the hood. Mostly depends on the time this would take us. If too long then the camera might run out of battery.

I have an extra battery pack for it but if this would take half the day, I'm not sure that it would do. We like to record the whole thing as a video instead of making the GoPro take the time lapse as we might miss some important frames like that. Better to process it afterwards.

Use two identical cammeras with long lenses 100-350mm.
Install the cammeras inside two different cars on the other side of the road. And be sure it's a place where people are walking often.
Frame the subject from oposite directions.
Power up the cammeras from the car battery.
Be sure you heave beafy memory cards. 64GB+
Let it roll all day long on 1080p resolution.

"Install the cammeras inside two different cars on the other side of the road. And be sure it's a place where people are walking often." This is Iceland, you don't find people walking about. Smiley

The idea was to drive the car around the city past all the bus stops that have an Auroracoin ad.

So...... what did everyone have for breakfast this morning?

https://www.soylent.com/

I don't have to think about what to eat, and it's cheaper than eating out at breakfast and lunch on the go.

Plus, it's full of troll tears, so it keeps me going through the day.

Nice!

Do they have it in green?

I guess @apcoins means when we start to promote actively in Iceland and the exchange is opened up. We start promotion on April 26th with the busstop campaign. The exchange will open up after block 225000, which most likely will be on or about May 1st.

Here are two examples of the final design that has been sent to the printer:

Greetings from the UK!

Best of luck with your forthcoming campaign.

I hope you will not be offended by a suggestion from a mere foreigner, but would it not be wise to include a (very large) QR code linking to the Aurora website, so that people standing at a bus-stop (or just walking by) can scan it with their phones and gain some information about AUR 'on the spot' ?

Hi Cryptonaire and thanks for the suggestion.

This of course was discussed but the fact is that if anything else would be on the poster it would be a different strategy than we are currently taking. The idea is that we are not trying to sell people anything on the spot. We are just there and the logo and name will sync into peoples subconscious and that is what we are aiming for. Fine if people get curious and want to know more they will google and find us I have no worries about that.

But the campaign will first make it's impact when they see the logo on the biggest news websites or on the evening news that will follow the opening of the Exchange and other promotional efforts we are planing. Then people will give more attention to the news as it will trigger something in their mind. On top of that they will absorb the news with a more open mind and more trust for the brand as it's been lingering in their mind without people knowing it. So that is the main purpose of the campaign. We will have tons of other opportunities to get people to check out more information about Auroracoin and this campaign will make those opportunities more successful.

This is not the extent of our plans to promote Auroracoin, it's merely the beginning. Smiley
68  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: AURORACOIN - Empowering Financial Freedom on: April 18, 2016, 02:15:16 PM
At first i was proposing paid press release/article, but it is now obvious that it is worthless. We will get full coverage without asking anybody.

I'd advise to stay away from paid press releases too, any more in crypto they are used by shills to make their project look more legit or bigger than it really is. I don't think AUR would have any problem attracting REAL journalists when the time is right.

No worries. It has never been considered. All media attention we have had and will have will be from real interest not because we paid them for it.
69  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: AURORACOIN - Empowering Financial Freedom on: April 18, 2016, 09:22:41 AM

I am only suggesting here, I believe you need to write more than a logo, people will don't know what it means if you don't explain and people has a busy life to ask themselves what that logo means, if you put on it something like'' The digital currency of ICELAND, you are in control of  your money not the banks''  There is too much blank space on those poster and its important to utilize nicely all empty spaces

Sometimes less = more my friend ;-)

It's the whitespace that draws the attention. And this initial campaign is not to sell Auroracoin in one single blow, we just want people to get familiar with the brand. Seeing the posters all over Reykjavik makes Auroracoin real to the people, thats the main target of this first campaign.

More detailed campaigns will follow shortly after.

yes I do understand your point but people are busy to think more what that symbol means and might think is just pure decoration if you don't make them think, They need to associate that logo to something, trust me people will not ask themselves what it means if you don't give them a reason

The point is, we don't need them to ask anything yet. All we want to accomplish with this campaign is a subconscious recognition of the logo (brand). It's to make sure they will start asking serious questions once the real media offensive starts.

Ok its a good idea Smiley I never saw it that way but it sounds good to me if it works Smiley

People will notice the logo regardless if they know it or not. They might not think about it for a second but it was submitted to their mind. However when they see it again on TV or in a news article something will click in their head and they will feel familiar with it and have more trust for it. That is the objective of the bus stop campaign.
70  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Auroracoin: Importing private keys from Android wallet to desktop wallet on: April 17, 2016, 12:44:19 PM
I just faced problem with importing private keys from my Android wallet to desktop based.

I used openssl to decrypt this key using command enc -d -aes-256-cbc -in keyfile -a -k psswd.
In output I got 52 chars long key.  When trying to importprivatekeys in debug console I got message: Invalid private key encoding (code -5)

So far I read compatible length of key is 58 chars.

Now would like to ask this question:

Are all android based wallets always using same kind encryption when creating backup keys : aes-256-cbc ?
Is command I used to decrypt keys correct?

Sorry, I'm just begginer, anyone help appreciated.

Hey degxtra1.

We are looking into this and it might have something to do with the import function in the new wallet.
We will have updates on the matter in this thread http://auroraspjall.is/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=349
71  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: AURORACOIN - Empowering Financial Freedom on: April 17, 2016, 12:38:08 PM

We, the Auroracoin development team, do however see a problem in the way you present your actions. You most of the time create a feeling that you are some sort of official entity, responsible for Auroracoin development, which you obviously are not. This has led to many confusions in the past and we are afraid it will continue to do so in the future.

Again, I also contributed 500 AUR to your December project in good faith and on a personal title, so I think that proves we are not against you. We only want to see you respecting the hard work we are doing to reach the official goals of this project and stop trying to impose your private agenda here.

Perhaps it's time you start your own thread where you can focus on your plans with Auroracoin in SA. I ask you kindly once more to stop spamming them here, for this thread is the official Ann of Auroracoin and that's focused on getting it accepted and used in Iceland

Tnx! Martin

I was redirected to this forum from coinmarketcap.

This thread is labelled announcements, here and on coinmarket cap.

UNFORTUNATELY That does not mean this thread is reserved for official announcements only and I think that is the problem you are facibg

Anyone can make announcements here.

There are no rules as to what I can and can't say here.

Why don't you make a thread with the rule that no one can make an announcement except for the official development team.

Well I'm sure that your wish might come true. Half the dev team has wanted to move to a moderated thread just because they have a difficult time handling your bs here and the fact that you prevent any logical discussion about the project here by constantly hijacking the thread derailing the conversations with your spam of completely unrelated, misguided and delusional comments.

I and some others have been opposed such an action because it is damaging to the coin and it indicates that we have something to hide while that is not the fact. But since you continue to spam every page with your crap the resistance to such a change reduces as people are starting to deem you more harmful than moving to a moderated thread.

So if you are really a supporter of this project you will quit this endless spam of delusional rant and do something that assists with the project goal of getting Auroracoin adopted in Iceland. If not you have revealed that you are here to try and damage the project and that will eventually lead to a moderated thread as people can't really stand you any more and you confuse new members on this thread. If you choose that way I can promise you that you will never have a voice in this Auroracoin community again.

So time to show what your real intentions are...
72  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: AURORACOIN - Empowering Financial Freedom on: April 17, 2016, 10:53:42 AM
so auroracoin make their comeback right now ?
it's up because of that panama papper?
or there's something that make it valuable?

or it's just same like before.pump and dump scheme

Yes you can say Auroracoin is making a comeback though it actually never left. Smiley
We have been preparing for this for over a year now.

Here are just a few things form the top of my mind that has been done in that time.

  • Assembled a versatile dev team
  • The remainder of the premine has been burned (by Balduro)
  • We have moved to DigiByte's codebase and the coin will go multi-algo on block 225000
  • We have founded Auraráđ (The Icelandic Auroracoin Foundation)
  • Established the legality of owning, using and trading cryptocurrencies in Iceland
  • Created an exchange that only has an ISK - AUR trading pair for Icelanders. (In open beta till the beginning May)
  • New wallets including a Hive web wallet
  • Acquired the auroracoin.is and auroracoin.com domains
  • Taken over some of the larger Twitter and Facebook groups
  • New official forum
  • Various tip bots

Some of the things that we are working on

  • New Android wallet
  • Multi-algo mining pool
  • Merchant tools
  • Merchant service
  • New website

Some of the exposure plans that we are working on

  • Bus stop hangers ad campaign
  • Exposure in various media in Iceland and abroad actually (It's premature to mention a lot of it so I wont)
  • Hackathon is being planed
  • Regular foundation meetings. Both member meetings and open meetings
  • We have been and will continue to arrange meetings with influential people in our society and introduce the to what we are doing

These are just a few examples of the work taking place. I'm sure I left a lot out and besides there are a lot of individual efforts taking place that I don't even know about.

To answer your other questions.
The Panama papers are not the reason the price is going up. The price is going up because people are noticing the work we are doing. The Panama papers however is a factor in why people checked us out again so clearly it has had an impact. The price raise is because of pure speculation like it was the first time around, on the believe that we might actually be successful in getting an Auroracoin economy going in Iceland based on the work we have been doing.

Regarding your last statement. Personally I don't believe that Auroracoin was ever a PnD scheme. It was very unfortunate that there were so many unrealistic expectations which pumped up the price to something very unsustainable which had nowhere to go but down. If not for that Auroracoin would have done better in the beginning. For these same reasons the new dev team decided unanimously to work mostly in silence for the past year so that we can build up the infrastructure that was missing when Auroracoin was launched in Iceland.

Till just a few weeks ago we have not had any promotion of Auroracoin in Iceland. The reason for that is we didn't want people to get attention on Auroracoin again while the infrastructure was still missing or some uncertainty was still in the air. But now we believe we are in the right place to start promoting Auroracoin in Iceland, educate the Icelandic public about the fact that they are slaves of dept in our current monetary system and that we have an amazing opportunity here to take back our financial freedom and show the rest of the world that it can be done.

Regardless of Auroracoin or any cryptocurrency for that matter is a viable solution today for a full scale monetary system, in my opinion it's at least a step in the right direction.

Sorry for the long answer, I just got rolling and it wasn't that easy to stop  Grin
73  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: AURORACOIN - Empowering Financial Freedom on: April 16, 2016, 08:52:48 PM
Can't wait for the bus stop campaign, and launch of the exchange! We are headed above 1 $

It will be interesting to see what reaction we will get but you shouldn't expect too much. This is just the beginning and I seriously doubt we will have an explosion in usage but we will get noticed and that is our goal. The rest will come over the next couple of years with continuous efforts to promote, develop and educate people here.

This project can't be built on top of just a handful of people. This is a community project and our goal is to get people involved with the project and contribute. That's the long journey we are just starting now and if we do our work well we will get more people involved and so accelerate the reach and usage of Auroracoin in Iceland.
74  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: AURORACOIN - Empowering Financial Freedom on: April 16, 2016, 03:18:03 PM
I want to set up a proper Auroracoin hackathon here in Iceland.
I think it would bring good attention to Auroracoin here (especially from developers) and it can return something useful for the Auroracoin ecosystem.

What do you guys think about that idea?

How would you handle such an event.
  • What aspect of Auroracoin would you focus it on?
  • What kind of rules and rewards would you set?
  • How would you judge the competition?

75  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: AURORACOIN - Empowering Financial Freedom on: April 16, 2016, 10:31:07 AM
What blocksize limit would be needed to support a well-established use of auroracoin in Iceland?

Can we get away with a "pure chain scaling" approach? That would be fantastic.

I didn't follow this development much lately. What is a "pure chain scaling" approach?

Is it just me, I can't seem to find a nice AUR block explorer? Why isn't there one?

How would you define a nice block explorer? Smiley

There are some listed in the OP. You looking for something that those don't offer?

"auroracoind getblocktemplate"
error: {"code":-7,"message":"Out of memory"}

"auroracoind getwork"
error: {"code":-7,"message":"Out of memory"}

rmm ok, default is scrypt, not sha :/

The hardfork will be at block 225000 so we have not popped over to multi-algo yet.
78  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: AURORACOIN - Empowering Financial Freedom on: April 14, 2016, 02:07:33 PM
that looks very promising, why dont you have a signature campaign on the bitcoin forum?

I'm by no means saying that it's a bad idea and I appreciate the suggestion but those campaigns might be suitable for some coins and services but possible drawbacks of such campaigns is that you get a lot of people who don't really support your coin saying all kind of things that might be in complete contrast to what we are trying to do and stand for. So it might actually backfire and reflect badly on Auroracoin.

Currently we want to focus all our efforts on Iceland and getting Icelanders to start using Auroracoin. That will always be our nr.1 priority and nothing will get Auroracoin more attention from the crypto community than progress and success in Iceland. Smiley
79  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: AURORACOIN - Empowering Financial Freedom on: April 13, 2016, 05:37:29 PM

VERY WELL DONE!! And all this will happen 1st MAY?

Well, actually the busstop campaign will start on april 26th  Grin

And actually the exchange will not open on the 1st. Smiley

The bus stop campaign will start on 26th. and will last 1 week. In the end of that week we will open up the exchange.

Huge protests in Iceland today 8 - 10k people. Numbers are still unconfirmed.

All these people discuss AUR ?

All these people are angry and they will continue to be angry at the 1% elite telling them that the Icelandic Króna is a solid currency while they ditch it themselves and store their value on offshore accounts in other currencies.

The scene has been set and people are now more than ever receptive to what we have to say.
