Wow, that's crazy.  I'm sad my miners pointed over to westhash for a few hours because the rate went above .0120

:p

All of my rigs are churning away, just can't get to the web, no biggie.

Kano, I'd recommend you look at AWS (amazon web services) for your DNS.  I host like 4 zones with Route 53 and I think it costs me like .55 usd a month or something ridiculously low.

Question to Bitmain, Dogie or whoever is in the know:

Will Bitmain sell their next gen 14/16nm Finfet machines or solely mine themselves? Any time frame?

Bitmain says s7 late july.

idk if this is 14 nm though....

i reckon Bitmain will always sell miners to anyone who buys them and pays the electric bill.
much easier profit for Bitmain that way.

Considering the heavy delays for 14/16nm production sites as well as the increased demand from large manufacturers (samsung, apple, et al) I really doubt we'll see anything in the 14/16 space this year actually released.

The noise we've heard earlier from TSMC and Global Foundries was that Bitcoin ASIC manufacturers are ideal for first runs of new production processes due to low price sensitivity and high tolerance for low yield. Samsung and Apple et al. have much tighter margins and prefer mature processes. But, as you say, there have been heavy delays. Plus, Bitcoin mining gear manufacturers are not in excellent shape nowadays.

That's a good point, I hadn't considered that really.

It just seems so weird that NO ONE has announced a product or even teased one.  I expected to hear something from the Austin meeting last month and nothing came out of it.
TBH it worries me. It's hard to make investment plans when the mining landscape is like this. Buying 0.4-0.6w/gh gear when actors like KnC are pumping out sub 0.1w/gh gear is risky when the price is either flat or falling. If we get a 5x/10x BTC price jump, the sheer amount of gear and electricity needed to pump the hashrate, even to make S3s unprofitable, would make it much easier. But if we can't get next gen gear, the hashrate will catch up with us eventually. You'd think there'd be a market for bleeding edge gear for smaller or home miners, but the string of Bitcoin ASIC bankruptcies of late isn't encouraging.

I know KnC says they've rolled out their 16nm but KnC says a lot of things, some not true after their shipping delays and being sued over it.

Fact is, if they're producing 0.7w/gh gear, everything else will be obsolete, unless Bitmain also has 16/14nm taped out and ready in mass quantities.  I've just finished a deal for a space with cheap power in WA state, but at this point, I'm loathe to purchase any miners to put in the space.

If KnC really are done selling HW, then there is a limit to how much hashing power they can pump into the network without being accused of enabling a 51% attack. Even if they spread their hashing power over onto other pools, they would be foolish to risk damaging BTC by sparking a debate regarding one actor having control over more than 51% of the hashing power. This should limit network growth until someone else gets 14/16nm going. However, it's hard trust KnC to act responsibly.

I have been very impressed with Bitmain, and hope to buy from them again. However, I have been impressed with them for the wrong reasons. They build products that work and they ship them when they are supposed to. It kind of says a lot about Bitcoin that this is seen as generous. Reminds me of a Chris Rock bit: "Quit bragging about stuff you're supposed to do! "I take care of my kids!", you're supposed to take care of your kids! "I have never been to jail!", well, you're not supposed to go to jail!".

I'm super salty we won't see any more Spondoolies boxes in the consumer space Sad

Ugh, 200kw to use and I just can't see investing money into it.  It'll break even and a little bit more with the gear I have, but I think its best to wait until late July to see what shakes out.

Sorry about hijacking your thread, I'm honestly interested in buying the miners, but for some reason the market for used miners is frankly outrageous.  For some reason people seem to think these should sell for what they were originally priced at new or in some cases even more (ebay.com).

I've got more power being delivered next week to my small hosting space, when that's delivered, I'll make an offer, but I'm thinking in the ~300 per range, if that's not something the seller would be interested in at all, I understand, but I think paying more than that for used gear when next gen is around the corner is crazy.

....Around the corner...... Really? You mean possibly at the end of the year!?  Cheesy

On here people KNOW the prices and market, so no need to low ball or mis-lead with prices you could never fill yourself. I understand buying low, sell high, but when you try to back your comments with fake info, it just makes you look......like an ahole.  Wink

If someone doesn't like the prices, MOVE ON.

I think its a fair point that S5s can be had for around 375 shipped, new, from the manufacturer.

Edit: this isn't the thread I thought it was where someone was asking 375 + shipping for used S5s.

Commentary: I don't see why everyone gets upset on these boards when prices are negotiated. It's just business. If someone offers an "unfairly" low price, don't sell to them. If someone asks an "unfairly" high price, don't buy from them. It a that simple. Prices are only "wrong" when transactions aren't made. As for trying to convince the other party to change what they are bidding/asking, that's fair game of course. And if you use speculation or made up "info" in an attempt to do so, you will lose credibility and come off as a dumbass. These miners are only "worth" what buyers are willing to pay for them. They are still profitable to mine with for the most part, so you have to assume the seller needs liquidity sooner than expected or they are bearish on mining profitability going forward. Buyers are obviously bullish on mining profitability going forward. Of course economic factors are not the only factors. There may be collectors or hobbyists who are motivated by other factors than profitability.

Commentary TL;DR: free markets are complicated. Don't take it personal and get upset with how they function.

Edit 2: apologies for the rant and hijacking the thread. Back to our regularly scheduled sale then.

Man .. never thought holding an auction would be such a hot topic.

Sorry dude, I apologize for the hijack :p

I have 4 of each, the SP20Es run about 5% more efficient and two or three degrees cooler.

That's about right from what I see with my SP20 and SP20e's.

Man.. now you have me all curious.... time to get the current meter out Smiley

Ok .. underclocked the difference shrinks to about 10 watts based on my readings at 1200 ghash @ 649 watts SP20 vs 1200 ghash @ 639 watts for the SP20E

I run mine around 800w at the wall for pretty much all my SP20s, (3 per 2880 IBM PSU) and the SP20es run 4 - 5% less draw for the same hash, but it does shrink when you get to the 600w range

Whatever it was was just a weird glitch, put kano.is on top, rebooted and after 10 minutes I'm seeing 2489gh/sec on the control panel, so ... who knows? :p
71  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1800 TH] Kano CKPool (kano.is) from the cgminer devs [0.9% PPLNS] on: June 06, 2015, 03:42:12 AM
Hey Kano, I have a strange issue with my S4+ on the pool.

It only runs at half speed for some reason.  Runs fine on btcguild or even nicehash, but when your pool is on top I get half speed.

Has anyone else had that happen?

Where is the hash rate showing the drop?
The pool reported hash rate takes time to get accurate as long as you are only mining at the pool.
If you are mining multiple pool then of course it will not show full speed.

If you PM me the worker name I can see what the exact numbers are.
The shift graph/shift information shows the exact accepted hash rate total over the shift, so if you started after the start of the shift it will be below your hash rate, if you started before the shift started, then it will show your full average accepted hash rate for the whole time of the shift.
Edit: the graph lets you see it at the single worker level.

I'm looking at the miner status page, usually after 5 minutes the mining rate sits where I expect it to be for this box, around 2550gh/sec, except for this pool which is so bizarre.  I'll PM you the worker name.  I only had it on the pool for a short while.  Who knows, maybe it was a one time glitch.  I'll try to put it back on the pool and see what happens.

What are you basing the speed on? Is the miner set in fail-over? etc. Gonna need more info than that it's running in half speed.

edit; opppsss...sorry kano. Didn't mean to step on any toes. It's a question I'll stay out of.

Not sure what you mean by failover.

In miner configuration, if kano.is is the mining pool the S4+ runs at around between 1050gh/sec and 1150gh/sec compared to running on btcguild or nicehash where it runs at the expeceted speed of around 2550gh/sec

How long have these been mining?  Are they the SP20E or the SP20?

Have they been running full power (1.6th/sec+) or at lower rates?

76  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How do small Farms of antminer s5's control all of them? on: June 04, 2015, 09:37:22 PM
I have a small farm, 15 boxes total (sp20s, s4+, s5s) and I use an expect script to change the cgminer.conf when I'm doing bulk changes.

I'm looking to expand out another 40 s5s, but I've been holding off hoping for new tech chips.
77  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4+ Discussion and Support Thread on: June 03, 2015, 07:56:08 AM
So I've placed them behind a small firewall and opened port 3333, nothing arriving at the pool, but I can ping the pool main ip from the device. Do I need to setup NAT for this?
Would be so much easier with an IP restriction....

You don't need inbound NAT, and you don't need to open port 3333 inbound, as long as the box can reach the internet and make a TCP connection is should be fine.
78  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [PPS multipool] NiceHash.com pool - higher profits than direct mining BTC! on: June 03, 2015, 07:50:13 AM
We've just recently updated our stratum servers code which improves mining performance for Antminer S5 and similar miners. You should get close to 0% rejects and optimal speed (the same as on other optimal configured pools).

Do you think this will fix the issue with the S5 locking up from time to time?

We do not know why S5 has this problem, but if it is due to fast job switching, this should be resolved now too. Basically, if your S5 had problems only on NH/WH and all other SHA256 mining pools worked fine for you, then NH/WH will work fine for you from now on too.

That's been my experience, I have an s4+ and 6 s5s and I would get random lockups only on nicehash.

All 7 have been running for a while on btcguild since I switched them off of Nicehash without issue.

I'll put them on again this weekend and do a 3 day trial and let you know how it goes.

First thing I did was put an ACL on the switch my bitmain gear is connected to cutting off all traffic other than outbound or management from my workstation.

There was a thread about this months and months ago or maybe in the product thread for the s4 or s5?
