Some users have been asking me questions about what happened with the pool and KGW exploit. They were confused that the two were somehow connected and I thought I would clear it up.

Pool Exploit

The pool exploit was due to a miss-configuration of the stratum mining software that allowed miners to submit lower than normal difficulty shares. These shares were technically worthless and should have been invalid, but the software couldn't tell. If you're pool is still affected by this, here is how to fix it.

Use the branch "Feature(MultiAlgo)" from this repo: https://github.com/Crypto-Expert/stratum-mining

After cloning that and checking out the correct branch, modify algo/coindefinition.py to use xcoin_hash.

Here's an example configuration for Darkcoin: http://paste.ubuntu.com/7116297/

KimotoGravityWell vs DarkGravityWave

We recently experienced a spike of difficulty from 300 to 10048 for one block. This was done by using a timewarp exploit on KimotoGravityWell where the user would submit an invalid timestamp on a block. To fix this issue without causing any unintended issues I implemented my own difficulty algorithm called DarkGravityWave, which uses 2 Exponential Moving Averages and 1 Simple Moving Average. These respond very quickly to shifts in the hashrate, but when invalid timestamps appear they can't impact the difficulty like we experienced before.

today i checked on that stratum darkcoin but how to execute that? i will need it in a few days for solomining rigs.

Is there a proper solution to get the wallet to sync past block 34139?

I started with no user data and a freshly compiled wallet from newest github revision, the nodes from 10-20 pages back and still no full sync. Tried without those nodes, again no user data, and same issue.

Any help?

I just compiled a new node list, not complete yet. Its p2p pool nodes and random connected nodes to my other nodes, all those nodes are pretty much 24/7 currently.
try at your own risk

i just loaded a fresh compiled qt wallet wit hthese nodes in 3 minutes

Going to put a run of these together if there's enough interest. If I get 15 orders I can get these to US residents for $23usd (payable in BTC or DRK, can use Moolah for Escrow), non-us residents we just need to figure out a shipping surcharge.

Sizes are up to 4xl

If you want in, shoot me a PM or email me at my handle name @ cointrepid.com

EDIT: Design updated to include website text

UPDATE I've had a few requests from folks in Europe, it seems most European countries would add $10 to the shipping, so shipping to the EU is available for a total of $33 (countries I've checked so far are the UK, Germany, and Belgium)

Canada only adds $5 to the shipping, so for Canadians it would be $28

Why not make versions with different cool binary messages on it ^^,actually it says "o",  would be neat.
At least it should say darkcoin , or the darkcoin website url or some custom code

I have an idea, if you could send an encrypted messages for example certain size with the darksend block.
like when you pay bills, you put in refence code, or a simple small message to the person or company you are paying.
This way you could send messages with the payments for example delivery address or something like that..

could this theoretically be done?

This is something we have on our task list to add in the future.
What would be the effect on blockchain size?
Do you have anything planned concerning blockchain size?

So with all this talk about early adopters - how many DRK would you be happy to hold right now? Obviously we'd all like a million of them but realistically given the risk-reward how many do you think is sufficient? Im mining and considering buying some more to bump me up to 1-2k.

10 is minimum,
50 is minor,
100 is good
500 recognizable
>1000 from here it gets interesting

lol

What is this all about?

people arguing about darkcoin on coindesk!!!!

It's a non-factual claim. None were premined -- that's 0.00%. It was a fair launch and like many cryptos, early adopters enjoyed lower mining difficulty. The amount mined in the first 24h is about 2% the 84M max. I honestly wish people could let the coins compete on the quality of their features & implementations rather than manufacturing FUD.
The ONLY thing about DRK that prevents much higher prices is due to what you just said.

Current coin supply is less than 4 million DRK. 2% of 84 million is...
1.6 million, so in the first week probably 80% of the DRK was mined
No premine, but certainly a small number of people have this 80%

I have no problems with people that were smart enough and lucky enough to have mined the first 80%. Just dont keep promoting it as no-premine. It is technically true, but from a practical standpoint misleading and is an attack vector for credible complaints.

So a small number of people now have $2 million USD worth of DRK and they continue to cash out. Based on total volumes traded, there is still a long ways to go before even $1 million of that is sold.

James

Thats as true as sad.
However, 1 million is like nothing in the investment/speculation world. One individual can take this out, Not even considering crazy risk averse hedgefunds or mass media effect as as we witnessed in bitcoin the black market effect, next cyprus, china users or whatever ^^.

The only problem with DarkCoin is that it is getting lost here in this sea of shit/scam/clone coins. It is a very hard mud to come out of, not to mention that early adopters of BTC do not entertain the thought of a #2 and for obvious psychological reasons.

Also each altcoin thread has their own set of diehards, so the story of FUD and FUD defence is common for every alt Sad I'd say don't worry about it too much.

I think short term, a one/two page DGW article/paper would be neat! Throw in chaeplin's pretty graphs and it would surely get a lot more recognition.

Maybe im one of those old guys, lol. Indeed, i ignored ALL altcoins till about a week ago when i recognized dark, for the simple reason they had no real innovation - just plain forks (sloppy launched, planned, coded and maintained) with some cosmetics but no real value - this is different with dark in my opinion right now.

LOL @ "old guy"  Cheesy

Welcome onboard. What kind of hashpower do you have, I am guessing very high for you to be able to solo mine. As the difficulty has now been settling above 300, not sure if solo mining is the way to go. You could setup a p2pool though (very easy!) or use one of the existing ones for a flavor similar to solo mine.

See my sig ^^.
Indeed im about to switch completely from solo to pooled mining if my success rate stays so low solomining. Later this week i add a bit hahsrate, not sure f still mining solo till then.
Anyways, when i quit solo ill def go 100% P2Pool.

What I like about this coin is, that the marketing will start when darksend works smoothly. So you can expect more value in the future...
What I like about this coin (personal view) -
* It brings innovation x 3 and counting... (x11, DarkSend, DGW) whereas most alts are pure copycats
* It has an actual person standing behind it whereas most alts devs hide (makes it easier to dump & run)
* It has a full-time dev whereas most alt devs rolled-out the coin, and just let it be...
* It solves a real need, whereas most alts solve nothing beyond what Bitcoin already provides.
* Devs DO rather than TALK, whereas most alts are marketing pumpers
* Devs listen to the community, whereas in most alts devs wouldn't care less.
* The community is genuine long-term believers, whereas in most alts if the coin jumps everyone dumps.

+1, couldn’t agree more.

Yes, it's also sort of stupid to complain about having a somewhat larger supply up front - if you mine at the same rate the entire time, you will probably never reach critical trading mass in time for it to actually be useful. More important is how it was mined: Everyone who wanted to mine at launch could - anyone, not just devs and their friends.

It makes a big difference. Even with the rapid mining at the beginning (which I might add was planned and announced), the distribution of coins was fair.

Hehe, the only reason i missed that out was i ignored all alt cryptos till i found darkcoin for a fluke a week ago when the major mining was already done.

However i jumped in directly when i recognized it and was still able to solomine some blocks what gets very tough now.

I just wonder why the distribution has to be so over-proportional in the beginning, well its done now but we could argue about this very much.

We have to arrange with that, its by far no reason to insta quit, for this the coin has too much innovation.

can anyone point me to a 32bit miner that can mine DRK?

or does one not exist?  Thanks in advance
the GPU miner is here
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=475795.0
but there isn't a 32 bit CPU miner that i know of

Yeah, i should have been more clear, need a 32-bit cpu miner to make use of a couple of old servers sitting idle.  Thanks for the info anyway

havent     tried but should work if compiled from source on linux.

BTW, the DarkCoin clone, Hirocoin...... a lot of people over there are excited by the fact that it uses X11, and its low power usage.

Clearly a big selling point over here also, but they seem to be doing a good job at marketing the X11.  I see X11 written around the place a lot more than here.  Just a thought Smiley... As it seems that X11 is getting a decent amount of attention now.

let them be.
Those who actually get what darkcoin represents are here, let the otehrs jump the train when they are force woke up - Πάντα ῥεῖ  , lol
75  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | No Premine | Hard Fork At 34140 (DGW) on: March 17, 2014, 10:44:06 PM

So here's the plan for development, tell me if this makes sense or not:

1.) Beta V4, V5...  - Large changes that require everyone to upgrade to use DarkSend
2.) Beyond this point, DarkSend is ready for real use and will be available in binary form (closed source still)
3.) Release Candidates - RC1, RC2, etc - I'll be taking bug reports, but these are smaller changes and none of them should require everyone to update
4.) First stable release - I think this stage should also be closed source until we're sure everything is perfect
5.) Public audits, where the closed source is shared with someone who people trust to review DarkSend (I'm not sure who that would be yet)
6.) After all audits pass and we have a real product, opensource

That sounds good... How many more betas do you think? Is there anything we (I mean everyone else, you are the busy one!) can do to help out in the meantime?

+1
im eager to support darkcoin where possible ^^

What the heck is going on with the price of DRK?

one point is distributing the hash-power of the miner
1. drk.coinmine.pl with 4 Gh/s -> 40 %
2. dark.suchpool.pw with 2.8 Gh/s -> 30 %
3. drkpool.com with 0.6 Gh/s -> 6 %
4. lotterymining.com with 0.6 Gh/s -> 6 %
5. p2p-pool with 0.25 Gh/s -> 2.5 %

it would be optimal to have 4 big pools with 20 % (now 2 Gh/s) - when 1 of the 4 pools is down then the other 3 have each 30  %
when you are an investor in this DRK and you realize that the network is not safe - you will not invest in it!

please distribute your hashrate wisely!

any updates on this?

P2Pool must become bigger.

Centralized systems are always a risk !

Get a look at http://darkcoin.mine.nu

24/7 Miners should really consider P2Pool and mine on the closer node to them.

They can add several backup nodes and wherever they mine on the P2Pool Network they will keep on earning the same DRK amount.

I recognized that new miners find the P2P reward system confusing or dont pay attention at all. I have seen a few miners quit within the first 24 hours saying they dont earn as much as on regular pools what as we know is not correct.

I don't think that bitcoin will ever implement anything stealth.  It will have to be a 3rd party processing or else a parallel wallet system.  They don't want to mess with their multi billion dollar economy plus with all the bad press from illegal activities, they don't want to invite more criticism.  So I don't really know who/what is developing stealth addresses for bitcoin, but Zerocoin ended up having to do it as a separate coin instead of what they wanted to do because the developers of bitcoin said they didn't want to participate with their project.

From what i know this is an issue for bitcoin, refusing innovation, well look at casettes, cds and so on.
LOL. If they dont want to touch their multi billion dollar construct osmethign else will take lead just as apple over blackberry, and see blackberry now. ugh , i need some sleep - fast.

What a hit and run Hard Fork?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am running a pool, and I got several orphan blocks now.

It is just a terror to all pools.
Why didn't the dev team tell to pools. Just submitted source code some hours ago and it hard forked!!!!!

And how about the exchange sites?
Do you think they update your wallet within some hours?Huh
Many exchange site will get loss by old block chain on this weekend.

And then, what exchange site will like dark coin?
They will remove this coin ever!!!!

Hard fork at friday night?HuhHuhHuh
What are you doing?HuhHuhHuhHuh?
What is your intention?HuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuh

It is just terror to all!

tomorrow i will evaluate if it makes sense to lauch a darkcoin news site if somebody else doesn’t do it, some sort of place where important announcements for users and pool owners are bundled, hmm.

it's not that.. I have tried this on another system, still ubuntu  12.04 32 bit, but an entire new box.. Same thing...  Something goofy with git on 32bit ?

How are you building the daemon for 32 bit?

I dont use 32bit systems at all, however ,why should it be any different than described in the docs : https://github.com/evan82/darkcoin/blob/master/doc/build-unix.md
