61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Where can I get PCI risers for the graphics cards that don't ship from China? on: June 16, 2017, 03:39:33 AM
why would you 6pin to sata like in that aliexpress offer?

molex is like 100+ watts up to 134w before really stressed..

sata you would be lucky to get away with 75watts.. i believe its like 54w safe limit.

6pin connector is safe to 200w.

be sure you discard those adapters they include, or repurpose wisely.

You're way off.
http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html
Molex is max 60W, but depending on rail it's connected to.
SATA is max 54W, but depending on rail it's connected to.
6 Pin is max 75W
8 Pin is max 150w

well that's the internet for you.

do you really think your molex is only drawing 60w from RX series cards at the riser while mining?

have you heard any news about sata connectors burning up with RX series cards at the riser when used for power sources?

i used to run my GAW Black Widow script miners off two 6pin power connectors and so long as i didn't go crazy with overclocking it was safeish and stable drawing over 200W from each connector.
62  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's ZCash AMD GPU Miner v12.5 (Windows/Linux) on: June 15, 2017, 12:50:15 PM
Please i need to understand what make some GPU has more hashrates than others, from the following list of GPU features which exactly is the main responsible for better or high hashreates:

1. Core Clock(Mhz)
2. Memory Capacity
3. Stream Processors
4. Memory Speed
5. Memory Clock(Mhz)
6. Process:(xx nanometers)
7. PixelPipelines
8. Memory Interface: (128, 256 Bit or higher)

For Zcash I believe Memory bandwidth mainly
RX 480 256 GB/s
R9 390 384 GB/s

Secondly the Core Clock

The microprocessor gives energy perfomance.

Anyways someone can add more info..

Regards

that pretty much sums it up.. the memory STRAP comes in to play also but was not listed in original query.

Process (xx nanometers) is just the manufacturing specification.. the more advanced (lower number) processes may allow for higher core over clocks but generally it just means the chip is more energy efficient.

i had no issues with win7 and would go that route.

was mining eth/zec and hash rates were on par with top end reports in this forum for same gpu's.

Thanks a lot man that helps me a lot

also last questions Smiley)

do you suggest dual mining ? and whats your opinion about best mining software for windows 10 64x ? pool mining or solo mining ?

and you said "if mining on ethereum is still even gpu based at all" do you refer to ASICs for ethereum ?

if i know programming and hardware can i build an ASIC ?

you seem to be asking the right questions now so i'm happy to guide you best i can.

it's a tough question.. i don't personally dual mine. i see a lot more lost profits in mining this way although overall there may be added gains for me.

it taxes the hardware more, draws more power and lines the pockets of those i don't wish to contribute to.

i think genoils ethminer is great software, but starting out i would not get all about the politics and mine with claymore on eth only.

i would avoid the terminology "solo mine" as well.. generally solo mining is when you are not utilizing a pool and mining directly from your full node. there is a branch of solo mining where you are on a pool but the only benefactor of a block reward but that's a different story.

just adds to confusion.

maybe "sole mine" would have a better choice of terms.. or possibly it was crafted this way intentionally to obfuscate the ability to mine without pools at all.

Ethereum difficulty is pretty reasonable if you have a small farm.. you can avoid pools and their hidden fees all together.

thanks for editing to add specifics..

it's a close race on ethereum between r9 390 and rx480 if efficiency is not an issue.

you should also take into consideration the effect of rising DAG size/difficulty as some cards are more prone to losing hash as dag increases.

6 months from now my answer may no longer be accurate. if mining on ethereum is still even gpu based at all.

as for your creating a good rig question, I would suggest focusing on a dual power supply setup and sticking to quality components instead of what you can get fastest/cheapest.

also start small.

starting out you will make mistakes regardless but hopefully they will not be catastrophic costing you (expensive) hardware and you can learn and implement knowledge slowly going forward and expanding if that is what you intend.
67  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Hash rate of RX and R9 series which model of each series have better hash rate ? on: June 15, 2017, 11:04:56 AM
i'm glad i am able to elaborate because this is actually a good analogy for mining.

just as baha cars will be faster in varied terrain, open wheeled f1 racers are superior on flat tracks.

then there are the public offerings that can be purchased from car dealers.

if you can specify what your circumstances and specific applications are, as well as what your intention is tuning wise then one may be able to give you correct answers.

likely though a search will yield better results because the most correct answer will make you $$$ and cost everyone else $$$ due to increased network difficulty assuming they are also mining where you intend.

it's like you just asked what car is fastest.
69  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Paying for Miner Help. Trying to Mine to Two different addresses. on: June 15, 2017, 04:20:27 AM
why not run from the same folder?

i have been doing this since forever, linux and windows, without issue.
70  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's ZCash AMD GPU Miner v12.5 (Windows/Linux) on: June 07, 2017, 08:26:53 PM
Haha! I would much rather I lose 2.5% of my income rather than involuntarily give you 2% of it   Kiss
I think there's a psych study done showing how people usually distribute money in a situation like that.

there are also considerations like closed source software vs open source which one may audit themselves.

may be useful to look up the definitions of "Claymore" (:
71  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Whats the lifespan of a GPU? on: June 05, 2017, 06:42:45 PM
i would think as long as you get 2-3 years out of them your golden.. because by then new technology cards will be 2-3x faster probably and the mining difficulty will increase also making the older cards less and less efficient

until someone makes a tahiti coin that features an algo which  only mines on amd tahiti core gpu's.

p.s. can someone please do this?

Anyone has solved the issue where the miner shows No AMD OPENCLGPU Found. Exit

yes, they likely installed drivers and then everything worked fine Smiley
73  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: AMD Rebrand - RX570 / RX580 - Official Thread on: June 05, 2017, 06:35:30 PM

Also when one finds a sweetspot for undervolt mV value, is applying this mV value to all GPU speedssets other than the first set (300 Mhz-750 mV) best practice?

The difference is so small (750 -> 831) that you gain nothing by making voltage steps.  Also, this is mining, so you will be always in the last state.

some algos switch between less intensive iterations though so I belive the last and second last states should be modified just to be on the safe side.
74  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Whats the lifespan of a GPU? on: June 05, 2017, 06:00:53 PM
depends on your definition of lifespan.. undervolted and modestly overclocked they will never shut down or display artifacts on you under reasonable conditions for 5+ years I would say.

of course they dont make things like they used to so who knows if component selection/quality control is slipping over the years.

if they are purely on mining duty I could possibly forsee adjusting voltage and clock rates/intensity well into a decade of mining lifespan.
75  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Hacking GPU cards back into operation because I need something to do.... on: June 04, 2017, 09:33:19 PM
570 would likely still be under warranty.. and if you can boot it, ensure it's got oem bios and send it for exchange is what I would do.

76  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v9.4 (Windows/Linux) on: May 30, 2017, 02:36:09 PM
the 7870 only has two gigs of video ram.. pretty sure thats not enough to mine ethereum. the reference you are making to 11Mh/s is an old statistic before the dag grew to the size it is today.

the 7990 issue is strange. try running only one gpu at a time to troubleshoot by specifying -di x where "x" is 1,2,3 or 4 in your batch file.

anyone have some insight on why claymores ethereum miner for some reason submits shares between 5-20 minutes at times and when i use eth proxy or other software it's far more frequent.

same pool of course, and although f2pool offers vardiff i dont think it's miner adjustable.

getting these false alarms on my gpu not reporting shares for over 15 minutes is a pain but no other miner seems to achieve the hashrate this software can.
77  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Data Center Mining Garage and Man Mining Cave ( PART 2 !!!!!!!!) on: May 25, 2017, 05:06:26 PM
are you pool mining all these gpu's?
78  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EXCHANGE] Poloniex - Crypto Exchange with BTC/NXT on: May 25, 2017, 04:17:56 PM
never had a withdraw issue on polo, although during peak usage phases the withdraw confirmation email has taken a few hours to arrive.

auto-renew of loans arent working though.. whats up with that.
79  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's ZCash AMD GPU Miner v12.5 (Windows/Linux) on: May 23, 2017, 08:15:07 PM
v12.5:

- added support for latest ZCash forks.
- improved fans management for latest drivers and Polaris cards.
- added "-mpsw" option.
- added shares-per-GPU statistics when "s" key is pressed.
- Included EthMan v3.0 which supports passwords and email notifications.

cool.. any rx570/rx580 optimization?

performance improvements in general?
80  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Slim PCI-E riser on: May 23, 2017, 04:03:44 AM
i was thinking ribbon riser at first, but don't know any that utilize the small 4pin floppy drive power connector.

either way that power connector is no better than the sata drive connectors.. just not enough contact and surface area to reliably transmit over 50 watts consistently.. not to mention their condition after a couple cycles connecting/disconnecting and then some oxidation on the mating surfaces to boot.

stick to something with molex if you are using RX series cards or the higher end r9's.

if its some old 7950's or r9 270x's you might get away with it.
