Keep in mind, the person above me states something important which most believe they can still mine.

But the ETH route seems the only viable solution for most, since almost everyone has a GPU in their computer or can acquire one.

I would have agreed a month ago.   But I think Bitmain's S9 is a game changer for many.  Getting like 2/3rds better efficiency means many that mine with a S7 now will be able to mine after having using a S9 which is a nice surprise.

So there is a chance for those with more "normal" electricity to still be able to mine after having with S9.  S7 still will remain a good machine but it's harder to speculate what the highest electricity price that makes sense to keep mining it will be.  So some with "cheap" and "free" electricity might get some S7 deals after having.  All speculation really at this point.

I think faucets are good for you, for someone who new about bitcoin and if you already know how bitcoin's works. You can try join signature campaign on this forum.

I would not suggest it for him.  Even as a teenager earning cent's per hour is not a good proposition.  He could be learning skills or a ton of other things much better long term.  Faucets are just a waste of time.

But I still think he should get parents involved and goal not be "purchase things online without my parents and crap".   As if he get's his parents support hopefully they will support him in it.   I think a lot of parents would support someone this age looking at something financial that is a possible investment. I think it's a great thing to learn technology at early age.

Looks like the engine just started again and harder then the first time.
I have to wonder if this in intentional difficulty manipulation, or just coincidence.  It keeps happening, but seems to be even more pronounced lately.  If it is possible to control the network difficulty without a 51% style attack, then I don't think the future of Bitcoin is very bright.

I just don't see a 51 percent attack happening by anyone related to bitcoin.  It would be a huge scandal and lose who know's how much value on BTC price.  So if someone has 51 percent... they would be losing money long term to preform it.  It would hurt them long term so cant imagine big company doing it.

So if being manipulated I don't think it is for attack.   It would be other reasons which would all be speculation.

Payment has been sent and bot message received here as well.  Thanks Marco!

Don't get me wrong but I don't think that Bitcoin is a game for someone who is only 14.

Nothing is a game at 14. For some of us, that's when we started shaping our career. If young children don't actually have the ability to purchase bitcoins until their like 18 - 21, do you think they'll bother to check it out then?

I personally think the community is losing out on a lot of younger users (to increase bitcoins adoption) because of how difficult it is to obtain them.

I think the part that is out of touch is wanting to purchase it without parents.... it makes me wonder what is he wanting to buy?  I guess it could be digital goods that only he knows.  But for physical goods his parents would find out I would think.

I would urge him to ask his parents for help, maybe start a account at a bank to tie to a real exchange.   I had to be around that age when my parents let me play with small amounts of money on stocks with their support.  I would think if he shows a passion and shares with parents a good amount would support him.   I could see some parents scared of "bitcoin" but... it's hard to say.

Either way you life will be much easier OP if you get parents support.   What is your goal?  Is it just to "purchase things online without my parents and crap." or are you wanting to learn or possibly hold it?
608  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can I earn money in this forum? on: June 07, 2016, 10:54:03 PM
for newbies the bitcoin faucets is very good way to earn some bitcoins for free

This is honestly a myth in my eyes.  Faucets are good for one thing that is getting dust for free to play with.  It is just that dust and super small payments. But if you want cent's to play with for free yes it is fine for that.

But as a newbie if you spent a entire day doing faucets even at 24 hours your value in USD would be cents.  So very very small amount for all the time spent.  It never works out on time spent getting a worthwhile amount.  I suggest many other things instead of faucets.
609  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mining bitcoin on: June 07, 2016, 10:50:58 PM
What are the first steps for a newbie to start mining ?
calculate first before you start mining, how much electric cost for mining, how much profit you got, how much bitcoin you got from mining if all give you a profit. you can start mining

My questions for starting off is what is your electricity cost? (make sure to include all fee's/taxes).   And do you have a VAT when buying gear?   Those are a good indication of if jumping in is going to be worthwhile.

Based on electricity we can recommend certain gear.  If you have "free" electricity you are very lucky and can use older gen gear.  If you pay depending on cost of electricity you might need the latest and greatest in efficiency (S9) or electricity could be so high nothing makes sense and hosting would be best option.  So all depends on anwser.
610  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Legitimate and worthwhile Bitcoin Mining Websites/Programs on: June 07, 2016, 10:47:21 PM
Forgive me for my ignorance, but I am new to Cryptocurrency and I don't fully understand many things. I keep hearing that Mining is an excellent thing, but is there any sites that can Mine for me.

Also, do we mine with our existing Bitcoins/Satoshi. Meaning, do I place the Bitcoins/Satoshi that I have purchased into mining and expect to produce more on top of what I put in.

Again, sorry for my lack of basic knowledge but I am here to learn from the best.

Mining is really no longer about the program/website.  It is about the gear you need to do it.  For example if wanting to mine BTC you really need an ASIC you can look at hardware thread to get idea of them and cost.  But cheap electricity and an asic is a must.

There is Ether that can be mined by GPU's.  But it takes a decent GPU to do it so not all computers are going to be up to it.  So again possible investment in gear to be able to mine.  It is most profitable GPU mined coin by far currently.
611  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon 7 on: June 07, 2016, 10:41:23 PM
all of you guys forgotten to mention the MOST IMPORTANT comment or request :

PRICE !

it has to be lower or equivalent to a S9 within the specs range.

TY Avalon team.

p/s : will be replacing & expanding mining ops, 30 x S9's in the plan. If A7 can beat it then I will most likely go for A7

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I saw the A6 as more expensive than the S7 based on $ per TH/s.  Not sure though.  I never bought one.  I would not be surprised if Avalon comes out with a miner that is around 9-11Th/s and .15 J/GH for $1600.

It was higher priced but it kinda fitted a market other miners did not.  It was geared where 110/120 ATX psu's could power it up easily.  Also it was a "quieter" miner, not as quiet as the 4.1 but still quiet.

My big things would be what efficiency they hit with it.   And of course price per hash.
612  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Which firm of mining hardware providers is the best one? on: June 07, 2016, 10:35:10 PM
Go for hashnest o Bitfury
If electricity is a problem, second hand miners are probably better and much cheaper

If not, an antminer S7 or S9 are probably the best ways to go, though if you purchase miners second hand they will arrive much faster and with power supplies

He mention's he has "free electricity" so I'm not sure why you would send him to the cloud for mining.   "Free" electricity he will make more mining at his place.   So kinda not the route I see him going.

With "free" electricity he does not need the latest and greatest efficiency so I think S9 would not make sense for him.  Waiting till having and snagging some bargins on S7's likely is best thing he can do.  And this assumes he can handle noise/heat.
613  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 21 cents per kw, Any way to mine? on: June 07, 2016, 10:14:59 PM
For me, I will wait and see if the new AMD 490 cards still has the 512 bit memory bus, if it has and price is reasonable, I will buy.

The AMD 490 will have 1024 bit memory bus, that is the HBM2. But it might not be too fast for Ethereum mining.

It's kinda a lot of speculation at this point no one knows speeds of 490 mining Ethereum.  It appears to be faster... how much is the question no one knows.   I think value wise 380/390 will drop.  And 400 series will take it's place. So waiting on the card for holding value I can see a point there.

But you are also missing out of mining currently.  So you might be mining at a higher difficulty.... so even if faster it could equal out or you might lose due to difficulty.  Again all speculation.
614  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread May 24 to June 6? picks are closed!!.... prize = 0.10 btc on: June 07, 2016, 10:10:25 PM
Looks like it is gaining a little bit still in just a few hours but still negative which is great:

Bitcoin Difficulty:    199,312,067,531
Estimated Next Difficulty:    196,245,122,976 (-1.54%)
Adjust time:    After 30 Blocks, About 4.9 hours
Hashrate(?):    1,526,947,373 GH/s

Price on coinbase coming in around 579 so pretty good there to.   I hope next period is as good as this one as are rise in value and no hug hashrate bump.
615  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Increase my bitcoins. on: June 07, 2016, 08:03:52 AM
Is there an easy way to increase my bitcoins. By like investing and such but not gambling. I'm tired of using faucets. Thank You.

P.S. Don't say work hard. Just tell. What is that work that I need to do?
Trading, but you will need a big amount and experienced in it.
Or try some mining sites which are already a trusted one. Do not fall on hyip and doublers cause you will only loose your btc in a short period of time.

Trading is pretty hard to profit from, especially with so many scams such as pump and dump schemes out there. There are so many shitcoins out there that you may not know that are not legit.

Also, it requires a lot of experience and stress. Watching your coin go up and down constantly is not a good feeling.

There really is two way's I see as "safer" investing.  Most altcoins are crap... just are you might get lucky might not.  But first is just holding BTC it is not exciting and does not gain more BTC but value can go up.  In past week we gained around 40 dollars for each bitcoin you owned.

Other coin is harder to tell long term but Etherium is gaining popularity.  This has a lot to do with it can be mined profitably at more normal electricity prices.   But it is one I would keep an eye on.  But it is not a sure bet.

tried to image new disk for new image for miner controller
no space on disk
tired to format IAW raspberry pi directions
http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/14827/~/using-sd-formatter-tool-to-restore-full-capacity-on-sdhc%2Fsdxc-cards
tired with size adjustment on and off
and still only get 20MB

now i have no SD card, no spares lying around.

going from bad to worse

Have you looked at it in disk management assuming your using windows? Obviously be very careful if you select your computer HD instead of SD card.... huge issues.  But it should show SD card and partitions on it I believe.

What were you using to put image on SD card?  I really like win32diskimager -  https://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/ .  There are many instructions out there for it, but it would require a SD card big enough for image (so fixing sd card first).
617  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain New Miner S7-LN 2.7T @697W discussion (Not official) on: June 07, 2016, 07:43:42 AM
Why buy a miner that's going to be close to or totally UNprofitable in a month?

Bitmain kinda shot themselves in the foot about these, didn't give themselves enough time to sell very many before they announced the S9.

I would love to see some more images and hear about sound level.  I'm thinking this could be more of a S3 replacement for those with "free" electricity that don't want a full bigger miner like S7/S7-F1.  Also does requires less electricity then regular S7, so again some market for it.   So i think there is a market for it, just smaller then S9.

But once someone get's one I really hope we hear on sound level maybe even at a lesser freq and see how low it goes.
618  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon 6 not working connection refused - help on: June 07, 2016, 07:38:25 AM
First time miner, so excited to get new miner
Avalon 6 miner with 1200w power supply
New unit from China. Arrived with in two weeks.
Packaged will and everything I needed in the box.

Went through the straight forward connections
Log in and see the miner is not working
Go into advanced and see the connection has failed

All powered on
Fan Running on power supply and miner
Miner goes through start up - fan to full power and back to idle
Green flashing light on miner - this means trying to detect mcu and fan
Usb adaptor ACU LED is blue, which means stand by.

Advanced settings
Cgminer API Log
Socket connection failed - connection failed

I have gone through basic checks
12v on all connections
Rasberry Pi powered on and working correct
Changed out some usb cables

Maybe firmware issues?
Any feed back would be great!

On the status screen does it see miner?  Did you get a kit with RPI with your miner or did you make it from image online? If so what image did you use?

Might be of some use long ago was my setup - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1257327.0

Does not see the miner
Screen has nothing
Came with a full set up
But also tried with a image sent from the seller in China
I have seen the guide, I will try the image posted.

Always says connection refussed

Very frustrating
Seller has agreed to test the unit or return to manufacturer
This is a lot of money in Shipping and a lot of down time

I would like to sort it myself to avoid this.

How do I post pictures?? I am new to forums.
I would like to add screen shots to make my problems clear

With being new you can't post them where you can view them on board.  But you can post a link to any common image site and upload your images there.   Then just post link on here.

My image is old at this point but is set to DHCP and should connect automatically to networks with DHCP server (pretty much all home routers).  Just make sure to enter your pool info in after as it does not come filled in if I remember right.

This was my unique problem in the forum : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=869002.0

I'm transparent, i'm not hiding anything.

(First let's solve this misunderstanding, after that we can talk about the bid issue (I know I was wrong) and the sanction).

So are you admitting you used a shill to bid up a auction?   You are kinda trying to move it down the road... but I think it is important and shows character of person.  It sounds like your admitting it just making sure.

Also what about the "double-dip in a free giveaway by BiPolarBob" do you admit to doing that?

Giveaway?
Yes, I did it (that time I was "new" in the btc world), and as you can see my english isn't my native language. that time I just was looking a way to earn/get some satoshis, but don't doing scam or something illegal.

I was using a paid signature too (bitstars and after :bitmixer).

After some hours of reading about the community, btc and altcoins I stopped using my "account" to get some kind of income. (SPAM signature, the current big problem in the content in this forum).

Then I started using my signature with a NO-paid sig campaign, as you can see.

2nd, the bid issue, I did it too, but I was just one time. (The digital "batman" key, obtained as a gift from buying a nvidia card @ amazon.

It was the 1st "bid" without other bids behind, so idk...
.

Like I said, i'm very transparent, I could easily delete the post and hide the evidence months ago, but I didn't.

"who owes nothing fears nothing."

in this case : If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear.

(sorry my bad english).

Quoting so it remains here.  You have to realize when breaking a giveaway rules and entering multiple times.... you are doing something wrong.    I don't think it can be blamed on language barrier.   You chances are can expect negative feedback... but not getting in trouble with forum's.

No shill bidding is going to make you look even worse.   It is again something I don't think a language barrier would make ok.  You have to know it is wrong to list a auction and bid it up.  Possible trouble with forums on this one not sure up to people much more powerful then me.

So we not have admitting to two not great things.  I think "Warning: Trade with extreme caution!" tag is likely to stay given character shown with act's like that.  But who knows I could be wrong.
