601  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / DeFi boom on: September 02, 2020, 07:58:31 AM

source: https://cryptofees.info/

If you haven't been paying attention to Uniswap and Defi boom, i am not recommending to getting in anymore.
I mean study by all means and this might not even be the top yet because most of the newbs don't even seem to know how it even works.

But this has been most definitely a fomo phase and fees are not for small fishes. And it's anything from $10-50 with erc20 token transfers. Chasing the hype usually means you are already late and this will blow over eventually, just like the ico boom did.

If the project is defined as a defi, it doesn't mean it would have any reason to exist.

Are there any major exchanges that have announced that they will support this airdrop? I mean could i hold my XRP in Binance or Coinbase for example and get those free tokens that way?

604  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Uniswap on: August 30, 2020, 07:05:36 PM
Yeah, it's pointless for me now. I can't sell $10 worth something without paying $20 in fees. I need to wait for the gas prices to calm down a lot before i even take a look at that again.
605  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Electrum update: A trader lost 1400 BTC on: August 30, 2020, 04:17:22 PM
So what´s the correct method to update electrum wallet? I might have few of the old ones in my old laptops and when ever i get them working again i was planning to go trough my wallets. But i am afraid of any automatic updates now.
606  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: There are 3 quadrillion times more atoms of gold than "satoshis" on: August 29, 2020, 08:40:19 PM
Yes, a comparison between gold's smallest amount and BTC's smallest amount.

Except you can just add more digits after the decimal point. Currently satoshi is considered "smallest" amount, yet there have already been exchanges with btc pairs working with 9 digits after the decimal point so i can't see any point in this comparison.
607  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: US file a lawsuit to recover funds from a hack by North Korea on: August 29, 2020, 12:19:10 PM
I wouldn't hold my breath that North Korea would comply with U.S demands. If by some miracle those weren't stolen by NK gov officials, imho they will be at least confiscated by them now. Is there a similar case in history where NK was supposed to return stolen goods to u.s?
608  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Satoshi Stop bitcoin? on: August 29, 2020, 09:42:48 AM
Satoshi Nakamoto has done a great job in bitcoin invention, his idea is what many of us are celebrating and enjoying today and we are grateful to have such a great idea, we have all believed that by the decentralized nature of bitcoin, it should be unstoppable by any government, even by Japan where Satoshi was claimed to be a citizen. Now that his idea has been propelled far and wide, do you think he has the capacity to stop it again?

Stop it how exactly? He could manipulate the markets by suppressing the price or causing a flash crash that could take years to recover from, but that's really all he could do. He build it so that no one man can control it. Decentralized.
609  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Laws of Bitcoin on: August 29, 2020, 06:10:34 AM
1. Never Discuss Your Bitcoin - Don’t ever disclose the amount of Bitcoin you
have with anyone. Ever.

I understand the need to brag. Need to tell at least someone about something you are very interested in. I have friends bragging in 2015 about making money with altcoins, without realizing that they just made a target on their back. Last years they have just told everyone that they have lost everything in hacks and scams. Funny enough people believed them.

2. Not Your Keys, Not Your Bitcoin - If your Bitcoin is not stored safely in your
wallet, you do not own it. If you leave Bitcoin on an exchange, you do not own it.

This i controversially kinda disagree with. It's a liberarian dream to be your own bank but with that comes with a huge responsibility. Real banks are going to be way harder to rob and you most likely aren't providing that level of security.

If you are afraid of exchanges being hacked, you might as well be worried about being hacked yourself. Things have evolved since MtGox, Mintpal and Cryptsy, at that time it was clear that every exchange was shady, and those were the big ones. There weren't any KYCs or any kind of regulation anyway.

I mean there will be hacks and exit scams in the future too, but there's a huge difference putting money in some shady place "that haven't exit scammed yet", like Yobit, then with holding your money public places like coinbase.

Also lots of places have set a new standard and these days you can assume that they have insured their holdings.

However, if you are worried that irs or someone is confiscating your money because you haven't been paying taxes and you have been hiding your money from the government, that's a whole another issue and i understand why you need to keep your private key. However i don't understand why you wouldn't just pay taxes.
610  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto after COVID-19 on: August 28, 2020, 11:03:37 PM
I am hoping that nft projects would kick off next after de-fi. This whole covid era has been weird experience, while my buddies have lost their jobs and i am doing better then ever with my crypto investments. It feels backwards, like i am rewarded for doing nothing. Well i am taking risks but it feels like this kind of luck isn't going to last forever.
611  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Decentralized Game framework on: August 27, 2020, 04:44:40 AM
this is a game platform, i want to develop a game platform that brings liquidity for both game and crypto markets.

Can you ELI5 on how would this work with rare collectables? What incentives would the liquidity provider get? Maybe i am stupid and just don't get what you are trying to build.
612  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why don't more people invest in btc? on: August 27, 2020, 04:36:41 AM
Because it is still too volatile. Take a look at the last 24 hours. Bitcoin is down 2.5%. Now imagine a big investor bought million dollars worth of Bitcoin just before it started depreciating in value. He just lost part of his investment in one day. Sure, the price might go up by 5% tomorrow, but it can also go down another 5-10%. Both scenarios are equally possible. It is the uncertainty that causes the fear.

Yet currently 95.5% of the whole time Bitcoin has existed, it's been profitable to buy. ( https://twitter.com/CalendarProfit/status/1298711847407718401 )
It baffles me that investors of all people are looking at short time frames rather then seeing the big picture, and at the same time everything can go down, even gold.
613  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll: when will cryptocurrency go mainstream? on: August 25, 2020, 02:44:11 PM
How do you define mainstream?

What would need to happen to bitcoin that you would say it's mainstream now?

You can already use it for groceries (converting it to cash in btc credit card apps and to pay). But if you are waiting for shops to accept btc for hodling, i am guessing you have to wait some more. It's just too volatile for that and going to be so for a long time. It isn't designed to be as liquid as cash money from the start.

Or do you accept your grandparents to understand how the wallet works? The same ones who barely understand how to use a browser?
New tech takes time to get adoption like that.

The hard truth is that we are pretty mainstream now. Not everyone is going to accept us, and a lot of people are going to fight us.
Some will be agaisnt us for political reasons, some people hate change, some people technology.
Hell some people against vaccinations and burn 5g stations, so ofcourse there will be people against Bitcoin.
That doesn't mean we haven't been adopted by many.

Lessons learned from successful investors:
...
Second: Get the profit as quickly as possible "Overcome greed"
...

Surely you have been talking with traders then rather then investors, because that sounds like a trader talk. To Bitcoin investors this has been most certainly a long term investment and being greedy and patient has been a good combo in hindsight.

617  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitpay alternative on: August 23, 2020, 12:51:43 PM
Bitpay does not operate their service in our country. I'm looking for a service which can convert my received BTC into stable coin instantly as I'm having buy sell business in my local. Without having converted into stable coin, it hards to ensure profit and very much risky. So, there is any alternative of Bitpay which operates worldwide, please suggest me one which you have used and have experience on that.

Doesn't coinbase commerence do this? At least you can accept DAI, USTD and bunch of with them. I suppose you could say that you just accept usdt and not bitcoin or maybe you can choose accepted payments. I haven't used it yet.

Well it's a big country with lots of governement officials, there are bound to be different views on this. They will probably go back and forth with this few generations until they give up. Meanwhile bank in Russia backed a loan with an altcoin.
619  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Some Influencers Are Not Helping on: August 22, 2020, 09:03:27 AM
Everyone with enough followers is called "influencer". Naturally some of these people are paid shills, some of them will use their own followers to manipulate markets and some of them are just enthusiasts. There's really nothing we can do about them, expect accept their role in this.

When these influencers abuse the their followers telling them to buy something up, these followers will blame the project when it crash and will call it scam rather calling out their hero for manipulating markets.
620  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: building a crypto criminal database on: August 21, 2020, 10:33:11 PM
...
Their "anti-criminal strategy" falls off a huge cliff the moment you start wondering how these hackers will cash out.. because they are most likely not that stupid to ever move their coins to a centralized exchange anyway. They'll probably use Bisq or other p2p methods in combination with mixers to get through unseen, so how useful is this blockchain identification thing then if the ways they'll cash out are KYC-less anyway?

You lost me there, what were the ways to cash out kyc-less again? Most fiat ramps i know need at least a bank account, and getting big sums of cash to your bank account raises questions. We got kyc now even in BTC 2 cash ATMs.

These days even in person to person trades are worrying me, because my accounts might get connected to something illegal the other person is doing. Also dealing with large cash sums raises questions of the origin too.
