I also run a node on azure, but I have a few suggestions: - you should be running bitcoin as a separate user so in the event of a exploit in bitcoind, you server doesn't get pwned.
- you should be using a upstart/init.d script otherwise bitcoind will not restart if the server reboots (rare, but still happens on azure).
- you can avoid making a symlink for bitcoind's data directory by directly mounting the datadrive on ~/.bitcoin
- bitcoin uses TCP 8333, not udp
- you should use basic_a1 or basic_a0 to save a bit of money
- if you don't want sync to take forever, get a D3 or D4 vm, symlink ~/.bitcoin to /mnt/bitcoin (so bitcoin can sync on ssd). once it's synced, move the the data over to the data disk
here's my upstart script for bitcoind (put in /etc/init/bitcoind.conf) description "bitcoind"
start on filesystem stop on runlevel [!2345] oom score -500
respawn respawn limit 10 60 # 10 times in 60 seconds
script user=bitcoin home=/home/$user cmd=/usr/bin/bitcoind pidfile=$home/bitcoind.pid # Don't change anything below here unless you know what you're doing [[ -e $pidfile && ! -d "/proc/$(cat $pidfile)" ]] && rm $pidfile [[ -e $pidfile && "$(cat /proc/$(cat $pidfile)/cmdline)" != $cmd* ]] && rm $pidfile exec start-stop-daemon --start -c $user --chdir $home --pidfile $pidfile --nicelevel 10 -m --startas $cmd end script

Talk about trigger Happy. I recently saw this: So the question is: "When Is A Double Post NOT A Double Post?" Ans: When the first one is locked before the second one is created. Perhaps the mod didn't notice that I locked the first thread before I started the new thread. I hired a contractor in the first thread, he later backed out of the deal so I wanted a new start with a fresh new thread. So quick to judge wrongly, why is this? it has since been moved back

for the record this is terrible if you want to help the network. peers only make 8 outgoing connections, and they choose randomly from a set of ip/port pairs stored in peers.dat. It's very likely that by the time someone wants to connect to you, your ip and/or port has already changed, so no one would be able to connect. Also, non-standard ports have less priority than standard ports, because they only get used if more than 50 connection attempts from peers.dat has failed.

You can still mine without wallet enabled (ie. ./configure --disable-wallet), but you won't be able to do so with the built-in RPC interface. You'll need to use a third party pool software. I think p2pool can operate without a wallet.

-port=<port> Listen for connections on <port> (default: 8333 or testnet: 18333) although you'll have to change it every time you reconnect.

as in, ssh into your server (I seriously hope you have ssh access) type: curl https://mydomain.com/blocknotify.php/?blockhash=00000000000000000dd3c33eaf1a2746ebe841418b98cb15f4a0bb71f3330d5e echo $?
the echo on the last line is to check the exit status. I'm suspecting that the culprit is your script failing and thus returning -1 to bitcoind when it's executed.

does it run successfully in in shell? as in, run the command, then do "echo $?" to check the return status.

you do realize that referral links will still be removed even without a new russian moderator, right?
