601  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Does anyone really think Terracoin is a threat to Litecoin on: November 15, 2012, 10:48:09 AM
TRC dilutes the market and takes interest away from LTC, so yes, I do believe that TRC is a threat to LTC.

Things may change radically with ASIC but there is no ASIC around right now.
602  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone with a lot of MH/s want to fork the TerraCoin chain? on: November 07, 2012, 04:29:25 PM
It's not so fair if we see them building their own club house and we just go burn it down. :-(

I must admit that your analogy above did tug at my robot heartstrings Smiley
603  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What should I mine? on: November 07, 2012, 04:01:07 PM
I'd say Litecoin. I like PPCoin but I'd get more PPCoin by mining Litecoin to buy Bitcoin to buy PPCoin  Roll Eyes

I've mined a few Terracoin just for fun but it seems to be a carbon copy of Bitcoin without really adding anything new other than changing some basic behaviour. Terracoin right now seems very susceptible to a 51% attack and may well not be round for long. Hopefully I'm wrong on this and Terracoin can weather a 51% attack in which case I'm interested.
604  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone with a lot of MH/s want to fork the TerraCoin chain? on: November 07, 2012, 03:33:38 PM
Why would anyone destroy an alt coin it seems stupid to me

Surely running a 51% is only testing the coins robustness. It is not stupid to test coins in this way but sensible in my opinion.

We are here because we are interested in alternative cryptocurrencies. We want them to evolve into something better than what is already available. We are all watching the Darwinian process of cryptocurrencies. Launching tests on coins like 51% helps weed out the weak coins. If a coin can survive a 51% attack then we can all be reassured by that fact. If it cannot then it was not meant to be.

I have 2.4Mh to contribute.
605  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mining bitcoins while mining litecoins on: September 24, 2012, 11:34:12 AM
LTC and BTC mining are both done on GPUs now. The days of LTC CPU miners have gone. However there is nothing to stop you from using the GPU on BTC and the CPU on LTC. The problem is you're only going to see 10-20Kh running on LTC which is not going to be worth the energy spent.

Until a CPU only coin turns up choose either BTC or LTC.
606  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PPC Charts on: September 24, 2012, 10:11:26 AM
Many thanks for the charts. Interesting to see that someone paid 0.001.

This is an odd request but not a hard one. Can you give the site a favicon please?
607  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Price of PPCoin[PPC] on: September 19, 2012, 07:02:00 PM
do you remember what we did to bbqcoin?
shhhhh xD

I would very much like to see you try the same with PPCoin. Kudos for knocking out BBQ, you've helped the Darwinian process of cryptocurrencies. At this point in time if a cryptocurrency can be taken down easily then that should be exposed as soon as possible. I think it is safe to assume that people have tried hitting PPC, I take some reassurance in PPC now as it is still up and running after what must have been its most susceptible period at birth.
608  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [LTC pool 45 MH/s] - Coinotron - PPS / Proportional LTC reward system [NEW!!!] on: August 12, 2012, 07:15:54 AM
All these attacks are in vain as more pools will just pop up anyway. DDOS makes the operator suffer more than anybody. Hopefully the futility of the operation will dawn on them soon and the attacks will stop.
609  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / LTC Address limit on: August 12, 2012, 07:11:25 AM
Newb question but what is the limit on the addresses you can generate in the LTC client?

I imagine that it has to be a finite amount and whatever that amount is couldn't a client be compiled that was tasked with creating addresses automatically and as fast as it can.
610  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LTC/USD prices by the end of this year would be... on: August 09, 2012, 11:14:20 AM
Until there is commerce, Litecoin will languish.  Once a silk road opens up for Litecoin, the currency will have made it.  Until then?  Litecoin won't be much higher than the current price if not lower by the end of the year.  With what 30,000 new coins each day?  Lol, there isn't enough demand as it stands.  And this is coming from a person that likes litecoin.

But it's nice to dream.

Agreed. Though I also have Litecoin just in case Smiley
611  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: For Sale: TWENTY THOUSAND BBQCOINS on: August 09, 2012, 08:38:13 AM
Not sure why Cubox got so upset. He took part in the Darwinian process of cryptographic currencies Smiley
612  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is windows for dummies? on: August 08, 2012, 05:23:04 PM
I'd say OS X is for dummies. I work in ICT and constantly have to disinfect peoples Windows computers because they do not know what tools to use or how to use them. People end up locking up there PCs while trying to look for "Free Porn Download" and ignore results like RedTube. Macs do not have this problem generally except for the recent Flashback.

Personally I reckon it is time for Mac to be the target. With the help of the massive flock of iSheep pushing up the number of Macs out there it looks like this may soon come true. iSheep seem to think that Macs are impervious to visuses and till now that has been largely true. There is nothing I love more than telling a Mac user their computer is infected even though they tell me that it is impossible Smiley
613  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT BTC on: August 08, 2012, 05:15:29 PM
Someone told me about Silk Road. It sounded good as it is only available on the Tor network and uses Bitcoins. I'm always interested to hear about new tech so an underground website using an experimental currency is right up my street.

I'm sure a lot of people got into Bitcoins because of Silk Road. It is the killer reason to get Bitcoins Smiley
614  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Whitelist Requests (Want out of here?) on: August 07, 2012, 06:55:23 PM
I'd like to be whitelisted. The hours I've spent on this forum as a ghost, I'd like to be able to chime in occasionally. If I'd have known about the newbie system I would have started earlier.

I am a BTC and LTC miner. My LTC is waiting in the bank for ASIC to hit BTC which should turn all the GPU miners to LTC which will sky rocket in value, at least that's what the LTC cultists are hoping will happen.

How do you even see your total time online?

Going to go look in my profile now.

EDIT: Found it. Profile -> Show Stats
616  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The day after ASIC hits, what to do with the hardware? on: July 31, 2012, 11:28:13 AM
Right now I'm getting more Bitcoins from mining Litecoin and trading them on btc-e. When ASIC hits I'm guessing everyone will move to LTC as currently there does not seem to be any other viable altcoin.
