It sort-of, kinda worked, the first line at least: but I got something different for the second pass... see screencap here:

Looks like your base64 command does not have a -d option for decoding, or ignores it, or it's got a different function, which is not apparent here.

Try: man base64
Or: base64 --help

Then work out what's the way to decode with this particular program.
622  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: December 16, 2016, 09:41:35 PM
but first off, where do I find a particular Monero address hex "spend_key",

type this in monero-wallet-cli: spendkey

and secondly: what software or website is recommended to convert to base64 (and TEST conversion back too)?

Assuming some type of UNIX system:

$ echo -n 01234567890abcdef11111 | base64
MDEyMzQ1Njc4OTBhYmNkZWYxMTExMQ==
$ echo MDEyMzQ1Njc4OTBhYmNkZWYxMTExMQ== | base64 -d
01234567890abcdef11111

Listen to those you think wise and feel you can rust

A most oxidizing recommendation, and one well worth following, I say without irony.
624  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: December 13, 2016, 06:06:44 PM
There is a new version of monero, 0.10.1.

This version is necessary to pass through next fork, in early january. If you run a daemon, you should update to this version within 26 days, or you will get forked off.

625  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: December 11, 2016, 02:44:32 PM
That won't help. I think the original blockchain got corrupt a wee bit. Best to delete it, and let it resync. It's a lot faster nowadays (assuming you don't have a slow HDD).

626  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: December 11, 2016, 02:30:52 PM
Sorry for off topic, but does anyone know where I can import a Soend Privtae Key for Monero?

Sure, I'll PM you, it's pretty easy.
627  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Monero rebase? on: November 26, 2016, 03:01:43 PM
I know that Monero has been doing a "rebase". Does anyone know what stage they are at with it?

Can you be more specific about what rebase you are talking about ?

In git terms, this would mean we're moving to a newer version of the codebase we started from (Cryptonote/Bytecoin), and we're not doing that (and it'd be a massive timesink since I think they also changed a lot since we forked).

So I'm thinking you're talking about something else, but I can't work out what.

Yes that's all good and all but ehst exactly do they do ? Noone has told me yet. How do you out them on as well ? Also the raffle how do I see what place I'm in ? Could you please not put 1M into the raffle its really annoying.

Suits are needed by the rules. They don't do anything except fill the need defines by the rules Smiley
You don't put them on explicitely. You own them, and they're deemed to be worn where appropriate.
If you're in IRC participating in a story, you may decide you're wearing a particular once, as befits the story, for example. But really, it's a quota as defined by the rules.

The first University-sponsored games were held in ##crypto-kingdom today, under the (not so) benevolent of one of the faculty, who (not very) kindly accepted to be our host tonight.

Due to an unfortunate glut of CAN in the lot raffle, we kinda all ended up with the same score (except sirjacket, who we lost in borough 4, but would otherwise likely have topped the best score, so we average the probabilities) Cheesy

Since the rules anticipated that there would be ties, the following participants are awarded a moderate bonus in WIS:

Syksy
rederin
Mooo
tombot
hmc
Sirjacket

We will confer with the king as to what amount of bonus is appropriate, and have it carried over in game.

Congrats to all participants!

The date is set to the 19th, on saturday. 5 to 7 GMT sound like a good time, let's see if anyone's interested in playing, and whether they have time preferences. You don't have to "register", you just need to be there on IRC at the time. I'll be there, for one Smiley Anyone else ?

Nobody expressed any time preferences, so I'll go for 6 GMT. Anyone around on IRC at that time is free to join Smiley

See the linked post for the minigame rules.

Dear Townspeople, oyez, oyez!

Cryptotown and the University are partenering to host a series of games for everyone. These are ad hoc minigames, played in IRC [1]. These will not be on a schedule, but the organizers are keen to try and keep the townspeople occupied during this eriee time of... well, timeless time.

The first minigame in the series will be a chance game. Every player is welcome! The game will be based on the Lot Raffle.

Rules:

The game is round based, and players play in increase player ID order in a round.
Entrance fee is a bottle of wine per round (any one will do, but make sure it's a WINE, not a GIO item). Participation in a round is optional. At a player's turn, you choose whether you want to participate in that round. If you do, you consume one bottle of wine first, then play the lot raffle once. If you find a CAN, you get three points. A CRxxxxx coin nets 2 points. A CK token yields 1 point. There are 3 rounds, and the scores accumulate. At the end of the 3 rounds, scores are tallied. All the characters with the highest score will get a moderate bonus in WISdom. All the characters with the second highest score will be a slight bonus in WISdom. Any character is free to give up to 1000 of one particular item to the LotRaffle character before playing the lotraffle.

The date is set to the 19th, on saturday. 5 to 7 GMT sound like a good time, let's see if anyone's interested in playing, and whether they have time preferences. You don't have to "register", you just need to be there on IRC at the time. I'll be there, for one Smiley Anyone else ?

What is going to happen with my land and house now ? It still says it will pay out 0m /year. Before it said 29k or something now its 0. So now what is going to be done about this ?

This is going to get fixed in the database. You have nothing to do now. It is a bug, apparently caused by the pause, which is apparently only halfway in effect. Sorry about that.

Once this is fixed, the game will still be in pause until further notice, so no tax and no income until time starts again. Once it does start, payouts will be recalculated (they were forced to the Office pool recently by the GM).

Again, sorry about the state of it all, and the hassle in getting it fixed. It should be at most a day, from what I've heard.

In all cases we get the next trouble in simplewallet:

make sure you run monero-wallet-cli, not simplewallet, it's been renamed, so if you run simplewallet you're probably running an old version.

Error: transaction <9e2e37247a520f170198ea827ba000eb93460eb481f3a136e69dd05b503985c5> was rejected by daemon with status: Failed
[wallet 49UHzL]:

Message in bitmonerod:
2016-Oct-10 18:50:51.028434 [RPC0][on_send_raw_tx]: tx verification failed

make sure you run monerod, not bitmonerod, it's been renamed, so if you run bitmonerod you're probably running an old version.

If this persists, then in monerod:

set_log 1

And try again. You will get more information about why the daemon is rejecting the tx.
It could be a double spend, there were a couple bugs which would cause the wallet to get confused about what's spent. If so, run "rescan_spent" in the wallet.
634  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: October 08, 2016, 07:23:09 PM
So how is the tx transmitted to the XMR network if it does not go through the server?

It does go through the server. But it does not *have* to. That is, if an attacker were to compromise some part of the chain from client to server, the attacker could induce the client to generate a transaction which would be relayed to the Monero network without going through the server.
635  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: October 08, 2016, 05:39:56 PM
As I have stated before a 2 part auth should be added, I personally would like to lock it to my IP and or MAC. There are many 2 part methods that should be added.

While generally useful, I'm not sure that'd help in this particular case:

- If the server is compromised, and is sending compromised JS, that JS can probably disable such checks, as well as post away your private spend key to an attacker.

- If the connection is MITM'd, same considerations apply.

- If your computer is compromised, the attacker can do whatever it wants.

Locking to IP and/or MAC would work if any tx has to go through the server, but that is not the case here. What would help is the ability to run known good Javascript only. So something like having the Mymonero website running on an HTTP server on your local machine, and connecting to the mymonero site as normal to get new txes and relay spends.

And now see this:

And presumably you had posted it just beforehand, right ?

Shaken by the unexpected vehemence of Zenon's portents, Mooo looks around, seeing stunned and worried faces all around. Only the king seems still composed and determined.

A discreet signal summons an aide to the Margrave's side, who then promptly scurries away to send a horseback messenger to Stonehaven. After all, a military detachment would not be needed, so the troops could focus on keeping order and protect the workers and the burgeoning settlement.

Heeding the wise Magus' words, Mooo will pack lightly, not forgetting his sketch book. Even if the dragon is not brought back, new and fascinating new landscapes and lifeforms found in Zenon's foreshadowed eerie domains will be couched on paper for the world to see.

Mooo walks up to the Margrave of the Maple Leaf to sign his name to the expedition's preparations.

Is nice finally such videos started. But it has a fault with inflation saying it will be 0.3 XMR/minute. It is 0.3 XMR /block. and block is on average every 2 minutes.

0.3 XMR/minute is correct. 0.6 monero per block at 2 minute target.
639  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Kingdom - 1991 Retro Virtual World(City) on: September 25, 2016, 06:51:52 PM
Stonehaven's geography is getting better known by the day.

After a day's general rest, part of the Margrave's troops were tasked with continuing the systematic mapping of Stonehaven, cataloguing villages, terrain type and other geographic features. By now, most of the county's interior is known, as is the corridor following the river towards the Österjön. Troops are given leeway to keep a moderate pace, trading off speed of mapping with thoroughness, and preserving stamina. Indeed, the dragon capture expedition might start without much notice, and a long march may be needed - north, as it happens, since recent news indicated that the Margrave's original thought of a White Cross destination might have been incorrect.

For now, mapping continues, while the remainder of the workers toil away at the construction of Stonehaven't first town, overlooking the river.
