6361  Economy / Economics / Re: Ron Paul vs. Paul Krugman on: June 09, 2012, 10:41:05 AM
Austrian economics is based primarily on deductive reasoning and logic. That puts it into the same category as mathematics. Similarly as mathematics, it is based on axioms. Strictly speaking, it's not science, but a tool that can be used in science.
Can you provide an example of a specifically Austrian Economic axiom and how it can be used in science?

BitcoinCard in Vienna Day 1: Coffee, missing ATM's, and some testing! (Pictures)

http://blog.bitinstant.com/blog/2012/6/8/bitcoincard-in-vienna-day-1-coffee-missing-atms-and-some-tes.html

Alright, that's already enough.  I want to put an order in for at least 10 of the first run.  And a gateway device that I can plug into my router.  I'll put it on my roof and cover my entire neighborhood.  Then I'll take them to the farmers' market that occurs every Saturday across the street from my house and see what I can do with them.
Dude, if these and Matthew's devices do what they say they do we need to set up camp on Wall Street and show those pissant Occupiers how it is done.

Go for it.  I don't live anywhere near Wall Street.
Yeah, I don't either. And I can't believe I asked you to go camping.  Roll Eyes
I am rethinking this concept. Since these are communication devices, there is no reason protests can't coordinate from anywhere. Protests can be combined with flash swap meets, and attract vendors that will be interested in Bitcoin. All I'm really trying to convey is that it's time to go PUBLIC and take a stand on Bitcoin for Main Street.
6363  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Casascius-compatible address tool for Android. on: June 09, 2012, 03:24:11 AM
So you have an offline Brain Wallet Android device. Cool cool cool! Now how do we get the private key in text or QR to a paper backup without something going online? Is it possible to photocopy the LED display? Maybe use a camera or camcorder, or Polaroid? I'm sure I'm overlooking something.
6364  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paper Wallet on: June 09, 2012, 03:06:16 AM
I have a code that uses the KJV1611 Holy Bible for a Brain Wallet. I shouldn't have a big problem finding a copy of that anywhere I go. I just hope Tom Hanks doesn't figure it out.
6365  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Coming next week-- the world's first handheld Bitcoin device, the Ellet! on: June 09, 2012, 02:43:44 AM
I don't think this is a competitor to the Bitcoincard, but a companion instead. In fact, it might behoove the developers to optimize these to facilitate both systems to work together. Bitcoincard is not a Point of Sales device. I'm sure there are more ways to integrate the systems.

If Bitcoin becomes controlled by the evil Banksters

how?  Huh

until they convince Bitcoin users to turn the power of Bitcoin against the evil empire

how?  Huh
Obviously they wouldn't gain complete control, but they could give large holders an offer they cannot refuse and then buy all the ASIC factories and strategic patents. They will then order an army of clones to restore order to the Empire and pwn the Bitcoin Network for years. What they don't know is that Satoshi had two children that will be the downfall of Darth Bitcoin.
Go ahead, ask me another silly question.
So Satoshi is Vader?
Who is Vader? Are you talking about Star Wars? I am just making a silly analogy in this off topic section because I am bored and frustrated with Bitcoin sitting at the starting gate.

How can it "further subjugate the poor" to then "bring balance to the economy"?  Huh

If Bitcoin becomes controlled by the evil Banksters, then for awhile the rebel forces will be on the defensive until they convince Bitcoin users to turn the power of Bitcoin against the evil empire. Bitcoin is itself neither good nor evil, but the design does favor the good side if the good side is vigilant.
6370  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: BTC to Philippine Pesos (PHP)? on: June 08, 2012, 10:17:44 PM
There are PNB branches in the States. I would like to see if I can get a Bitcoin exchange account linked to a PNB account. I don't think it would be directly linked to the Philippines, but it should make it easier to transfer money.

Is this something Bitinstant.com should be interested in?
Can you post more details since I don't know anything about PNB?
From the website http://www.pnb.com.ph/rci/
Quote
PNB Remittance Centers, Inc. (PNB RCI) was incorporated on October 19, 1990 under its former name, Century Finance and Remittance Centers, Inc. (CFRCI). The California Department of Financial Institutions licensed it as a transmitter of money abroad in May 1991. It is also supervised and examined by different regulatory agencies in Nevada, Texas, Illinois, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, Florida, Washington State, Oregon and Alaska. PNB RCI is a subsidiary of PNB International Investments Corporation, which is wholly owned by the Philippine National Bank in Manila, Philippines.

PNB RCI began its operations by opening the National City branch (in San Diego) in September, 1991 followed by Chicago, Illinois branch in February 1992 and the simultaneous openings of West Covina and Union City branches in March 1992. Jersey City in New Jersey, San Jose and Carson branches opened for business that same year. To further expand its remittance services and to reach a greater portion of Filipino-American remitters, additional branches were opened in Las Vegas, Nevada, Illinois, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, Florida, Washington State, Hawaii and Texas. Today, PNB RCI has forty four (38) branches in the US and soon will be opening additional branches in California, Oregon and Alaska.

The high quality of client service, competitive exchange rate, and rapid delivery of funds make PNB RCI the no. 1 remittance company in the United States.

you mean to say that bitcoin is the dark side of the force?  Shocked
Indeed. Bitcoin will be the force that chokes the monetary sytem, but not before it is used to further subjugate the poor. It will be decades (or 3 more movies) before Bitcoin fulfills its true Destiny to bring balance to the economy.

So the Occupy movement has become the Zombie apocalypse?
6374  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin coexist with other cryptocurrencies? on: June 08, 2012, 02:47:36 AM
I absolutely believe there will be other crypto-currencies and that the naysayers here will gladly merge-mine them because there will be adequate incentives. There is a lot of wealth that can be thrown into such an effort that once realized, would generate the momentum to continue to grow with Bitcoin. The reason I think wealthy people will force a parallel currency is because their vanity is stronger than their fiscal sense. They would rather have their own silver than our gold.
6375  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coineer - The Bitcoin Magazine - SPOILER on: June 08, 2012, 02:15:33 AM
I'm not putting any money on the success of any bitcoin-based magazine until a distributor picks it up and stocks bookstore racks. In the meantime, just enjoy what you are doing and see where it takes you.
6376  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Leaving Bitcoin on: June 08, 2012, 02:12:03 AM
Bitcoin is the gateway currency. One hit and you're hooked. Soon you'll be merge mining Namecoin. You'll be trading Litecoin. Before long you'll be jonesing for IXCoin because the high just isn't enough. To the OP: Yes you should definitely go cold turkey before you OD on... SolidCoin!
6377  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Leaving Bitcoin on: June 08, 2012, 02:07:40 AM
I can quit Bitcoin anytime. I just don't want to right now.

Addict
Nuh uh! I quit Bitcoin several times just today.

The Occupy rebellion has been squashed by the powerful new Empire.
Emperor Silvergold - "Good. Good! The Deflationary Power is strong with you, Young Satoshi. A powerful Coin you will become. Henceforth, you shall be known as Darth... Bitcoin."
"Yes, My Master"
"Lord Bitcoin...RISE."

That's a nice tutorial on starting a local exchange.
6380  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Warning Against Using Taint on: June 08, 2012, 12:36:22 AM
So what if Apple makes a Bitcoin app and only allows "Apple Coins" approved by Apple to buy Apple approved products and services from Apple vendors in Apple Land? They would call any non-Apple coins "tainted" and will void your Apple Health Insurance and send you to Apple Prison.
