That's a nice tutorial on starting a local exchange.

One of the tools that might be useful are if a delivery network were employed.

For instance, in Los Angeles and New York City there is HipMunk, which bills $5 to courier your item across town for delivery next-day(ish).  So for cash-out service, this works great, and lets a single buyer reach and wider geographic area.  Since there is only on hop between buyer (well, HipMunk might internally make it a couple hops), there is much less risk of the item getting lost.

In San Francisco is Postmates, which offers a pesonal courier / delivery network as well.

I describe how HipMunk could be used in this manner and link to Postmates here:

Are there other cities with these types of personal delivery networks?

I just updated the site:

- Now the equations are simpler: no need for {{ and }}: you can just type mtgoxEUR * 0.95
- New parameters added: USD_in_PHP, USD_in_EUR, all currency conversions from http://openexchangerates.org/latest.json (USD -> any other currency)
- Lots of currencies added (this makes the currency list very long, but it should be usually automatically determined.)
- Minor improvements

Bug reports, feature suggestions, etc very welcome!

Edit: sorry, I didn't add wvap from mtgox, since there are already weighted averages from bitcoincharts.com, which incorporates the trades from all exchanges. (eg. EUR_24h, USD_24h)

I asked about possible freelance work and the technology stack that you are using a little while ago. Will you reply?

Sorry, missed it! I'm using python and django. I will have to think about the freelance offer. Now kind of in hurry.

Lots of minor updates made, for example now you can link to a city this way:

http://localbitcoins.com/location/DE/Berlin/

Also there is some random "active cities" fetched at the bottom of the listing page.

Sorry about the continuous errors with the site, we are rapidly making changes, because at this point we sacrifice stability over features. In the longer term the site will be more stable Smiley

ad # 103 is still located in the wrong city (FF/M I believe) although I gave it a Berlin ZIP code

It does shoe up correctly in http://localbitcoins.com/location/DE/Berlin/ tho.

you know what - please delete all ads from PLZ 10627 (these are all mine), I kept getting my eMail adress wrong.

I will make new ads from my home computer later tomorrow with the "correct" IP settings.

Brilliant idea, well done.

... but unfortunately I get a 500 - Internal server error right now on the http://localbitcoins.com/ Please note that other URLs work fine, like for example http://localbitcoins.com/location/DE/Berlin/

EDIT: By the way, would it be possible to sort by price? When you get too many results close to you, you might want to pick the best price ;-) (unless it will only display 10 results at a time, so no need for sorting)

Well, there were couple of bugs, they should be fixed now and there shouldn't be 500 errors any more. If you are still getting them, drop me a msg.

We will add ability to stort by price, but that is currently minor priority, since there aren't any sellers to make this kind of sorting sensible.

What city did you try? What country?

We recommend using postal codes/zipcodes, because they usually work somewhat well, but cities should work as well in most cases...

Hmm, I'll look at it... Don't you have your ad edit URL where you can delete them?

Edit: in fact, I don't see any ads from Frankfurt, if you mean that... There area only ads in berlin leipzig, dresden, hambur... Your IP located position never goes in to the ads.

Yep, you can change your default location on the main page (the two boxes and "change" button). It should save the cookie for about like forever, so you don't have to rely on the IP location. (how could I make this more intuitive?)

Well, whats counterintuitive is that I suck at thinking.

Can you avoid spam in the listing like the guy from IT selling "goldbarren" for 1 BTC.
