641  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CHA] Chancecoin protocol, client, and coin for decentralized dice betting on: April 30, 2014, 08:36:12 AM
It is a good ROI but cheap in fact :

Chancecoin is linked to a real (and bankable) business. You are bankrolling the house by owning Chancecoin. You can't theorically lose money by owning them, and you can play with Chancecoin when you want. Chancecoin is a share and a coin.

I don't know the current volume of Satoshidice, but It was sold 12 M$ a year ago.
The current CHA value is only 220 000 $...
With 514 000 coins, each CHANCECOIN should be 23$ worth at least. It can easily outperform satoshidice and other competitors.

If you have further numbers, please correct !

It is twice as much marketing for Limecoin anyway Cheesy
Eventually, people will only buy the original one, with the better algorythm, not a scrypt copycat.

Reimbursement from their own pockets is the most honorable behavior possible, especially in cryptoland.

On the contrary, do you think Mastercoin will ever think to reimburse every people that were stucked with unwanted MSC bought for maidsafe IPO ?...

Do you think major exchanges reimbursed people from their own pockets ? Remember MtGox ?

CONGRATS to Counterparty devs. People know that when shit happens, devs will repair, technically and financially. Confidence is the key.
Counterparty devs have perfectly led the incident : Public announcement, patch in less than few hours, reimbursement...And Community proposed to donate more !
What can we expect more ? Classic Devs in altcoins would have easily said "It's beta", "The protocol is not affected, so we won't reimburse" or "You were idiots to have so much money on a web wallet". They didn't.

That's why there are 3 IPO starting by the way

Guys, did you see the absolutely chaotic IPO on Mastercoin ??

Mastercoin adress for IPO was removed 2 hours after launch.
MSC holders were very eager to dump at the fixed price and Maidsafe don't want MSC anymore...

EVERYBODY have foreseen it and let it know it could be catastrophic for Maidsafe, but each time investors was attacked/insulted by Mastercoiners , saying Maidsafe agreed a fixed price and 0,02 was the real MSC value, so there will be no manipulation...

Price is already -40%...

Many Investors bought MSC just for the IPO and now are stucked...Disgusting and shameful.

I don't want to make more MSC bashing, but all of this was foreseen.

Problem is I didn't listen to myself just thought I had time to get in and out, over slept by a few hours and now my lifes destroyed just lost $50 of my $65 savings with a disabled ex to look after. Anyone got a suicide hotline number lol?

Wasn't you who sold 400 MSC @0,17 yesterday, just before this chaos ? :-)

650  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: The Official Mastercoin Foundation, Master Protocol & Mastercoin Thread on: April 21, 2014, 11:46:09 AM
I think Mastercoin's price will fall back down after Maidsafe finishes its fund raiser.  Well..... unless Mastercoin can get some more partners.  The way I see it, Mastercoin has a good month of being able to be used as a fundraiser standby token for Safecoin and then goes back to waiting around.  I know that it theoretically can be used for 1000 things, but so can the pencil on my desktop.  Mostly that pencil sits there and hardly does anything.  Anyway.... I am happy, I always believed it could be possible that Mastercoin would come through, so I bought some Mastercoin sometime back and so now its up!!!  I didn't buy any counterparty.  I'll admit, the counterparty platform looks smooth and clean and I really like it, but Mastercoin has first mover advantage and much more money invested in it by people with strong alliances.  Sometimes it isn't what you know or what you can do, but who you know.  That is just the reality of being a ground breaker first mover verses a copycat that managed to be a little better.  For counterparty to make it, it needs to be more than a little better, smoother, and cleaner, it needs to be A LOT better.

Counterparty was the first DEX and, as you said, is better.

Technologically speaking, I don't see any reason to keep using Mastercoin Protocol instead of XCP. Anyway, Counterparty are not the best to recruit IPO candidates and have no marketing actions, so Maidsafe probably did not even know XCP.

Mastercoin Foundation have made a great work to persude Maidsafe to exclusively use their protocol. Maidsafe is a very interesting project.
651  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: April 15, 2014, 05:55:56 PM
Despite being so innovative, XCP has become victim to pump and dump

Pump and dump, with an average volume of less than 1000 XCP ? What are you talking about ? Don't use terms you don't understand. The parasite coin is just dying. Not because of lack of innovation or whatever, but just because of the lack of communication and exposure. Amazing devs, but only the 8 people on that thread know about it. This coin is going nowhere with the current direction. What is happening to the new website ? What about the 2 experts' audit ? Introduction video, and so on, and so on... DOGE is terrible, but it is everywhere, which is at the end of the day what matters, no matter how retarded  / super cool this coin is.

So if only 8 people know about it and it is 4 m$ worth, how much will it worth with 80 people ? And 800 people ?  Wink

You are totally right on marketing, but that is why XCP is a good target and investment : with no communication, bad exposure and 2 month-time, XCP is near the top 10 coins. I made exceptionnal returns, easily between 50 and 100*, with this kind of coins, when strictly nobody cares and poorly marketed.

Vircurex is dead. Cryptostocks, which belongs to Vircurex, will die, and issuing shares or paying dividends in Cryptostocks becomes dangerous. As a shareholder, I do not want to lose my shares and will welcome a solution.

Could devs contact cryptostocks to move towards Counterparty protocol ?
Businesses owners in cryptostocks are looking for more stable and secure platform.
One is even moving to Mastercoin (Why MSC and not XCP ?!). It is time to contact business owners, and show them the counterwallet too.

Furthermore, does someone especially know a businness owner in Cryptostocks ? He could convince him to move toward XCP protocol and I am sure Devs would help. I know only one but I am not able to perfectly explain him why XCP.

Thanks Sampey for the last update !

Juste a question : Is there a way to leave the "capital" in altcoin and receive the gain in BTC ?

I mean for example :

You have 100 000 DOGE initially. You don't want more DOGE, you just want to use CAT because this market is sideways.
Can you limit your "capital" with 100 000 DOGE ? It means total Pong orders don't excess 100 000 DOGE, and BTC are not "reinvested" to buy 102 000 DOGE cheaper and gains made just stay and accumulate in BTC.

Thank you by advance

Is the technical case over ?

I hope so because, in the last posts, Bitcoin Core devs were strictly like US Regulators, and XCP Community was the BTC one, pushing revolution and innovation ahead. I am not sure BTC representatives would deserve to gain cause with regulators in the near future, if they have same methods when in similar positions !!
655  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] THE NEXXUS PROTOCOL - P2P Altcoin Exchange/ Multiwallet / P2P Hosting on: March 21, 2014, 12:03:39 PM
I was not talking about voting. I am sorry if my message is not clear enough about why to have some updates.

All supports are not to be technical ones. I am just trying to remind the basic link between shareholders, users and success. The private phone call you had was longer than a post or update for EVERY shareholder...I am an early but just a little investor in Nexxus, like the vast majority, so I won't call every week, and Devs have not to answer hundreds phone calls neither.

You said you want to give your investment the best possible chance to succeed with a long term view. Satisfied and Informed shareholders means more users and visibility, and (for example) 30% more chances to succeed. And it will prevent anybody from wondering and leaving due to the lack of updates, interests...

Disclaimer : I can be biased because I am an experimented investor and I have succeeded in my own "real" IPO for my business. So I am prone to think public relation with shareholders is a an edge, and having early fans, users and supporters make often business a success.

You could choose BTC-E because
- The volume of exchanges is enormous (so there are always buyers and sellers, and numbers of successful pongs can be great),
- Markets are very often "sideways"
- You can trade BTC and fiat, so one doesn't care if he gets stucked in BTC or fiat (unlike "shitcoins")

If you choose another "cryptsy copycat exchange", it won't add nothing interesting, just a few altcoins that were'nt on Cryptsy, but with low volume.
And again, CAT is perfect for daily or weekly gains on sideways, not really for speculation.
657  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] THE NEXXUS PROTOCOL - P2P Altcoin Exchange/ Multiwallet / P2P Hosting on: March 21, 2014, 10:34:22 AM
I own 15% and don't really care about share price. I have seen delivery of a wallet, exchange and soon to be deployed android app. I don't see many others with that particular feather in the cap. The share price can remain at zero for a while - so what. Its there for a reason.. no dividends. And why the hell should a business pay out dividends when its in start-up? A good business will earn profits and pay shareholders from profits. Cryptsy does and I am sure Nexxus will get there. Patience is a virtue. Want to get rich quick overnight? - get a lottery ticket or go to a casino.

I would be more worried about scams where large divs are paid out for a period of time and then the stock goes bust. I am glad with my Nexxus investment. If the market doesn't like zero dividends while the company is trying to generate real cash flows, tough. I was consulted about the zero divs and completely agreed with the rationale. I want to give my investment the best possible chance to succeed with a long term view.

I strongly agree there is no need or rush in dividends. Although, I would recommend to have a minimal and clear policy for shareholders : there were dividends until 5th march, so we can't guess if Nexxus goes bust, faces technical delays, or has no user's fees at all, or anything else.  Not anybody was consulted.

I don't agree that it is normal, safe and respectful to say there will be 0 dividend, no news for months, and shares price will go to the floor because that is what devs decided to do and it's better for profits. Cryptostocks is the only "shop front" at the moment. Satisfied shareholders become users and satisfied users become shareholders.

Hi Sampey

I noticed only 2 problems :
- Putting a static order is definitive, even if you ultimately uncheck "static" and update parameters.
- NXT doesn't accept decimals, so Pongs don't work in NXT market.

Just another word : I used to invest only in promising coins because if I get temporarily stucked in alt-coin, I don't care.
I have to say I am not sure there are still promising coins and Cryptsy is becoming a cemetery. So intelligently using CAT is becoming harder.
Are you planning others exchanges ?

Thanks

+1 for Common Sense

When you really think about it in a global way, storing data in a second blockchain is even more wasteful.

Imagine these two future cases:
Scenario 1: Bitcoin + Counterparty
Scenario 2: Bitcoin + BitcoinLikeSecondChain + Counterparty

Scenario #2 will always use up more data globally than #1 because we have to add in the second chain + its overheads.
Scenario #2 makes all parties (Bitcoin, BitcoindSecondChain, and Counterparty) a little less secured.

Why have Counterparty/metaprotocols running on top of a second chain when it's even simpler to integrate directly into the chain like some of the Bitcoin competitors?  Why even have OP_RETURN?  Why even have script if we really want to save every bit of space?

Counterparty is just tiny writings in the margins of the Bitcoin book.  Reducing the margin to 40 bytes and advocating that all metaprotocols write to more books is just encouraging more wasted resources for everyone on the planet -- just so we might save up a few bytes in one book.

Allowing just enough room in OP_RETURN for a hash is like leaving enough room for Fermat to write down one last equation when that one equation could have led to another, and another in a chain of discoveries.  It makes sense that a little more room for writing in the margin will make the Bitcoin book more valuable for everyone NOW before the new competitions come.

Please allow some room in the margins instead of encouraging metaprotocols to waste more trees by starting more useless books.

It is called a free ride.  Given that the overwhelming majority -- >90% -- application for the bitcoin blockchain is currency use, using full nodes as dumb data storage terminals is simply abusing an all-volunteer network resource.  The network replicates transaction data, so why not come along for a free ride?

Rather than engage the existing community, mastercoin and counterparty simply flipped an "on" switch and started using bitcoin P2P nodes as unwanted data stores.  An unspent transaction output was never meant to be used as arbitrary data storage.  The fact that it can be abused as such does not make it right, or remotely efficient, or the best solution.

The UTXO (unspent transaction output) database is the entire network's fast access database.  Every single node needs that database to be as small as possible, for best processing of network transactions.  Encoding arbitrary data into unspent outputs is network-wide abuse, plain and simple.  The entire network bears the cost.

Translation : At the moment, Mastercoin and XCP are only parasites from bitcoin dev's points of view...
Sorry for being so direct but this is what I read as a non-technical investor.

Trading shares ROI is 25% each month.

But has anyone tried to calculate the coumpounded ROI if you re-invest earnings let's say once a week, or once a day ? It must be very significant.
