641  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Short question - Short answer [Official Thread] on: July 01, 2017, 07:34:06 AM
Question about 'sweeping' (import)

After you sweep the private keys of lets say a paper wallet to a desktop wallet like Bitcoin Core or Electrum, what happens? I have read that the balance on the paper wallet gets deducted to zero with fee and transferred to the desktop wallet, so does the private keys of the new desktop wallet gets changed?

Thanks!
642  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: can you expain trade strategies? on: July 01, 2017, 07:07:29 AM
Does anyone here have experience using STOP-LIMITS? For example the price of a coin is at 0.01 BTC each, if I place orders to buy some at 0.009, buy even more at 0.008, and sell at 0.012, and sell all at 0.015, is this a good way to earn profits?

This depends on the volatility also, so I'm not sure if this would work all the time. If you want to profit all you have to do is buy at a relatively lower price and always sell it higher. However the price may never increase again, which happened to a few coins I bought too, so it's really hard to have a 'sure-win' strategy.
643  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Every time the media calls Bitcoin a bubble let's agree to buy a bit more! on: July 01, 2017, 06:57:42 AM
Right now Bitcoin is still gaining popularity and momentum, so I am getting and saving up Bitcoin now. Right now Bitcoin is still not that popular around in my area, probably barely 1 in every 10 people actually uses Bitcoin.

I'm in! Lets buy all the Bitcoins! Grin (Maybe just twice a month is good enough Smiley)
644  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [Idea]Interactive HowToUseBitcoins website/app on: July 01, 2017, 03:07:16 AM
Hmm, this is a good idea to start from and would make learning what is BTC easy and fun, +1 for this project. Smiley

Maybe you can create a mini-platformer game like Mario where there are questions (pops up when you hit the question block in Mario), and you have to enter the correct 'pipe' which has the answers on them.

Or if you do not want to gamify it some much, then perhaps a simple quiz where you choose an answer, but you make animations to make it interactive.

If I think of any better idea I'll let you know again. Smiley What content do you have currently? E.g. Questions/Info you would be giving in the guide
645  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Creating a newbie guide pdf over the weekend, what do YOU want to learn about? on: July 01, 2017, 02:26:17 AM
When I was a newbie, I would ask these (basic) questions.

- What is Bitcoin? (Is it just a digital currency?)
- How does Bitcoin work? (Blockchain technology)
- What's the use of Bitcoin?
- How do private and public keys work?
- How do I deposit/withdraw my Bitcoins for cash?

It is nice of you to create a guide for newbies, good luck with that! Grin
646  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can someone track my address that uses a same wallet? on: July 01, 2017, 01:50:43 AM
It would be very hard to track down, as there are millions of transactions out there and it would be quite difficult to find a connection between your addresses. Just do not post your address together publicly on the Internet, and I think it would be fine. Smiley

Bitcoin is all about anonymity too!
647  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: can bitcoin wallet be hacked by hackers? on: July 01, 2017, 01:32:46 AM
No, thats the good thing about Bitcoin, is that you have security and privacy. Smiley Of course if you have an online wallet, your password may be stolen somehow, especially if you use same passwords in many sites. Just keep your private keys safe, and don't let anyone have access to it. Smiley
648  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Overinvested - Hold or sell some positions at a loss? on: June 30, 2017, 04:06:22 PM
Hey guys,
I started to switch most of my investments to the top 10 coins, but even there the volatility is high. Today my main positions are ETC, LTC, NEM, STRATIS, XVG, STEEM and WAVES. However, especially WAVES, NEM and STRATIS have declined during the past weeks and I am not sure if this might stop anytime soon. Thus, I ask myself if it would be better to close all positions and observe the market for some weeks, especially because I am fully invested with my "crypto currency money" - if there is another drop I cannot buy any cheap coins. Obvisouly I made a mistake and invested too much...

What do you suggest? Would you sell some coins at a loss or wait? Due to the ongoing drops I cannot close the positions on a neutral/positive level.
If you are considerably new to trading, try not to invest in so many altcoins, and start trading small first. If you are able to sell at a neutral price, then go ahead and sell some.

If the drop is too low, I would rather hold it than to sell it, its just that you have to be patient and monitor the price at all times, feel free to create open orders that allows you to sell at a higher price though.

I would suggest still to hold on to Bitcoins for now, and maybe only invest a little of it into altcoin trading. Bitcoin still has a lot of potential for growth in the long run!  Wink

Stick to a few coins that you trust and like will do!
649  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New world!!! Bitcoin world!!! on: June 30, 2017, 03:39:33 PM
A few images that should pretty much make you understand why the banking system is not the solution and bitcoin make the financial part in anyone's life easier.
-
The images are quite outdated though, not that Bitcoin prices have rose up to 10x, and so have the fees. However it is still true that banking fees may still be higher if you are dealing with large amounts. Tongue The good/bad thing about Bitcoin fees are that they are around the same regardless of the amount, good for large amount, disastrous for microtransactions.

However I like Bitcoin as it is limited so I hold some and let it grow, at the same time use it as a digital currency as I find it more convenient. Smiley
650  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Afraid of August One? on: June 30, 2017, 04:53:53 AM
I am still a bit uncertain about it, but I am looking forward to it and hope this can improve Bitcoin. As others have said, it is important to keep your coins safe, especially not in online wallets like Blockchain and CoinBase.

I've already made the switch to a desktop wallet, so now I'm just waiting for the day to come!

652  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Think I got scammed on: June 29, 2017, 03:43:43 PM
What kind of game? The only game I can find is a mobile app spacey the bird, but with no investments though. You should give the link to warn users not to join.

I got 'scammed' by one of those ponzi games before too, which I obviously did not know and I had to learn it the hard way. I invested just $10 (luckily just that), and soon a few months later the site had bugs and it 'went down', forever. Sad

I learnt a lesson to stay away from games that require you to invest, and offer increasing earning rates upon investing. It is hard to know these sites are scam only until you've been scammed. Truth. Tongue
653  Other / Off-topic / Re: Where should I start learning programming? on: June 29, 2017, 01:42:49 PM
HTML is not a programming language.
Haha, you are right, but I would say HTML is a basic 'language' to learn especially if you want to create a website. Smiley

You are right too, it depends on what you like to do, if you would what to learn to design your own simple website, which is what I want too, then you should start from HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Smiley

I would say start small, Python is totally fine too, if you want to create scripts with certain functions. I also suggest learning C and Java, since it is very common, just learn the basics would do! Cheesy
654  Economy / Economics / Re: If you have a lot of bitcoin, should you spend it or save it? on: June 29, 2017, 09:51:38 AM
I would not consider having less than 20 BTC as a lot, but I would spend a part of them if I really had that much, to use it for what I want, because thats what Bitcoin is for anyways, to store your coins as an investment. Really depends on yourself (How greedy you are Tongue) for when to save/spend, but if you are still starting out, I suggest save.
655  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: We need apps not coins on: June 29, 2017, 09:46:07 AM
The only to not include transaction/service fees are really through support by donations, or by web advertising. There used to be a free tipping service ChangeTip, which allow you to donate and send bits of satoshis to other users completely free without any fees, but this service ended, and I think they would suffer more losses if they continued.

To give services incentives, we would have to be the ones to give them, so are you willing to? Wink
656  Other / Off-topic / Re: Where should I start learning programming? on: June 29, 2017, 09:42:40 AM
I recommending downloading SoloLearn on your mobile device, its a Google App, but its free, easy to use and supports multiple programming languages.

If you are completely new you can learn some basic html or c, where you can learn then free, w3schools is one the choices. Smiley Try out SoloLearn first and decide what language you want to learn! Grin
657  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The reason that keeps me from investing in bitcoin on: June 29, 2017, 08:55:17 AM
Bitcoin is actually more suited to be an investment rather than a day to day currency. I still suggest you to buy some and hold them instead of using them, and treat them as 'gold'.

If services like fast food restaurants decides to use Bitcoin as a payment method, maybe they can come out with a method that allows for no fees between accounts, but this is just a suggestion.

Existing methods including Bitcoinpay, but it still charges a fee of 0.8%, not completely free. Undecided
658  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cyber attackers asking for $300 in bitcoin on: June 29, 2017, 08:47:10 AM

This picture speaks a thousand words, and as shown, do not open suspicious links/emails, and always create a backup (of files, wallet keys, stuff that are important).

This is the downside of Bitcoin. Looks like the number of related attacks will just get more frequent, and harder to tackle. Sad
659  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ransomware Cyberattack ask for Bitcoin on: June 29, 2017, 08:40:08 AM
Thats, true, Bitcoins can be used by criminals and governments cannot control any illegal activities due to its anonymity, which is quite a heated debate in the Bitcoin community to whether countries should accept them. All things have pros and cons. Smiley

I hope that this will stop soon, hackers are getting better with new ways to get money out of their victims, especially when everyone is using the Internet now. Stay Online-safe!
660  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: i got scammed by "shapeshift.io" and bestchange.com can't be trusted on: June 28, 2017, 01:18:29 PM
Where do you get your BTC address from? It might be possible that you copied your address wrongly, just a possibility, or your address requires some deposit fee and it may have caused some trouble when the BTC was sent.

Do you mind telling more details about your wallet address? (Exchange site, online wallet... etc)
