Post best quotes here.

prislanders: I've been telling yo about the crash since $40...you all got mad and banned me. Now I got the last laugh.
642  Economy / Speculation / Re: Without mtgox the price will be under $100 within an hour on: April 21, 2013, 04:25:18 PM
The price going down on other exchanges can simply be explained by speculators trying to take advantage. Here's how it works:

1. Speculators see MtGox down and assume the price will drop (due to panic, or whatever, especially if the downtime is for very long).
2. Said speculators stop their normal buying (speculators are always buying and selling to make profit from arbitrage or buy/sell order spread). This dries up "demand" on the exchanges.
3. Some speculators will sell, thinking they can buy back their coins later for cheaper due to the coming sell-off. This adds more supply and causes the price to start going down.
4. Whenever MtGox comes back up, or demand starts to look more natural, speculators rush to buy back their coins causing the price to stabilize.

No real panic or cause for alarm.

Except point 4. The last time gox went out during a fall it followed the other exchanges not verse visa.
No, the last time gox went out there wasn't a change at all. -.-

Price is stable at http://bitcoinity.org/markets

Really, you need to just relax and let BTC be
bitcoinity stopped updateing mtgox. Look at last trade: "an hour ago"

OMG BTC-e is down a whole $1.50 in last 90 minutes OMG panic sell BTC is dead

 Roll Eyes

I wish that would be the case for €, the price is going up there. It's at ~$125 (at Bitcoin Central)

Completely off topic, but do you like Bitcoin Central? From what I've seen it looks super legit, even compared to gox.
644  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are you expecting a crash when Avalon Asics will be released? on: April 21, 2013, 04:04:22 PM
When the first device will be received, the owner will mine like crazy, and the supply will increase.

Please. The difficulty adjusts so that the same number of coins are adjusted per unit of time. The supply will not increase.

More hashing power can only be good for the network.

It will increase in the extreme short term. The first few blocks would be generated faster so for a short period of time there would be marginally more bitcoins. Of course its unlikely that everybody turns on their asics at the same time.
645  Economy / Speculation / Re: Without mtgox the price will be under $100 within an hour on: April 21, 2013, 03:54:58 PM
But anyway, this is a clear indicator that prices on gox are artificially inflated and the real market thinks the price should be much lower.

Excuse me.... what? How is the gox price going up before the crash indicate that gox is over inflated.

LOL @ Bids going up at bitstamp.
647  Economy / Speculation / Re: Without mtgox the price will be under $100 within an hour on: April 21, 2013, 03:40:51 PM
This downward move began before gox went down.

Clearly not trending down just before gox closed... if anything moving up :\

We are in bear mode! Doesn't someone want to short!

I am always willing to short, but not on bad odds.

1. Since when were you shorting, you looked like a permabull.
2. I pretty much offer the best odds on binary options on any instrument anywhere.

Very.  Large DDOS.

Source? Anyway, this is bullshit, sorry. Some database issues much more likely.

WTF is a database issue and why is it more likely?
652  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bears, Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is on: April 21, 2013, 05:18:43 AM
maybe because it's silly to agree to a bet in which your winnings are denominated in the currency whose exchange rate your bet is against.
Read thread please.

Looks like the Grand Canyon down there.

Lol. It does though, doesn't it.

Apparently the forseeable future was half an hour. It "crashed" down to 121.11. Looks like its bottoming out. Put a small buy order at $120.51. Not sure if it will be executed, its so small I hardly care.

Huge increase in volume and big drop like said in the last 10 mins. But already climbed back to 125 as I type this.

Not sure. I suspect its one of these people that is like "well, this is  pretty good price to sell, probably will dip lower anyways, if I put in a momumental sell order split into 1038204820 different trades it will look like a sell off maybe I can get the price to tank while I'm at it."

657  Economy / Economics / Re: Interest and Bitcoin - Impossible? on: April 21, 2013, 04:30:49 AM
I think people have this all wrong.

There isn't any Bitcoin 'bank.' Normal people won't deposit their bitcoins into any institution by default like they do with currency because otherwise the bank would have to provide negative interest which doesn't make any sense.

That doesn't mean there won't be loans, however. But it will work more like venture capital, with only certain people doing it and subjecting themselves to considerable risk. For loans such as those associated with housing, I suspect it will end up working sort of like car dealerships. The seller of the house (or an agency the seller uses) will provide an interest-free loan to the buyer not to profit from the loan, but to profit from the sale of the house, likely with a large down payment required. Most for-interest loans would go to businesses.

What does this mean? A much safer financial climate all around.
658  Economy / Economics / Re: How to make sure your machine isn't software key logged ? on: April 21, 2013, 04:19:03 AM
Back up your files reinstall OS from a boot-up CD. Thats the only real way of making sure.

I thought we had to take off and nuke the whole site from orbit.  Its the only way to be sure.

Considering how valuable are these digital goods, there would be no problem in investing time and money in developing some very nasty 0 ring rootkits.
Even if you scan with an AV a harddrive as slave or from a bootable disk, it still doesn't ensure the cleanness of a drive if it wasn't on a sterile environment... ESPECIALLY if it is running Windows.

Considering the AmiBIOS source leak, accessing ring 0 would be trivial, and a BIOS Rootkit would be impossible to be cleaned up by an AV.
I would normally not worry that much, but with bitcoins a certain level of paranoia is expected.

There is no need of worrying as long as you follow very simple rules:
Ideal:
1) Nuke everything and start from zero.
2) Make a new partition and install Linux
3) Never use root
4) Use that partition only for Bitcoins and never use it for leisure browse anything.

If you are using Windows 7 (if you are still using previous version, you better kill yourself):
1) Nuke everything and start from zero.
2) Create a user with user privileges.
3) Use sandboxie for browsing, even with Chrome. Thinking of it... better sandbox everything. Sandboxie is your internet condom. Cherish it, learn to love it.
4) Use Kaspersky Antivirus. Better something than nothing.

Dude, windows XP is super legit. You can get full source now. XP > Lunix.
659  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: April 21, 2013, 04:16:15 AM
Well it did go from $129.x to $127.01in 2 min.  I figured it would go back to $120 but again low volume of only 200 didn't move it far.

Probably stay within $125 and $130 for the forseeable future (which is, for bitcoin, like 5 hours lol).
660  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: April 21, 2013, 03:53:22 AM
And here it comes, the sell off

but it's low volume so far
What is this sell off you speak of? There is huge sells and no price change. More like, playing-chicken-with-wall time.
