661  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ONC] Onecoin - CPU only - Pools opened! on: January 19, 2014, 05:33:52 AM
GPU mining doesn't seem to work, all my blocks end up rejected.  Anyone else tried it yet?  I left out -Nfmin -Nfmax and -StartT because I don't know what they stand for or how to find out and could never find an explanation!  Also, whilst googling for an answer, I found a post somewhere saying Onecoin uses different mix and hash functions than YAC and other scrypt-janes so possibly this is why it isn't working?  Assuming the standard scrypt-jane GPU miner needs to be tweaked specifically for Onecoin, as a dozen blocks all ending up as rejects in a hour doesn't seem right.

NFactor 11, kynda obvious GPU wont work.

Can still mine GPU mine YAC just fine with N factor 14, play around with settings enough and all scrypt-jane coins yet released are still GPU mineable.

Profitably mine @ Nfactor+ 10? nah hard to believe

Well it isn't so profitable now, but thats not because you can't GPU mine it, crank up the thread conncurrency and lookup gap and it'll work.  Trust me, scrypt-janes were my bread and butter for a long time while everyone was staring at coinchoose and coinwarz.  In any event, I suppose it doesn't matter much at the moment as my i5 is still finding blocks right now.

I'm gonna mine it for a bit and see what happens.  I always liked onecoin and was sad to see it go away, hope there is still life in the old girl yet!

Chinese loves scrypt-jane coins, idk why, but they do.

Yeah was a very fair release with a very good dev.  However the decimal places proved to be an issue.

The One Coin is a very nice concept though and most people would like a bit for their crypto portfolio.   I didn't know you  could still mine it.

I asked the dev why it need to have 18 decimal places, since 42 does not. However it seems 42 will need to have 18 in the future.

i could modify the code to fix that, remove tx fees. and make it rounder but who will support it?

The block reward is still 0.0000005 and won't halve for another 3 years, could survive just fine with no transaction fees for now.

And unless the network gets uber-fuckhuge, most miners shouldn't have an issue with accumulating at least 0.00000001 quickly enough to be able to transfer it to market.

Only issue I could see is past miners who happen to have an odd amount of onecoin not being happy with you rounding away the last 10 decimal places worth of their coins.  Seeing as this coin was never traded much and never hit an exchange, that has to be a relatively low amount of miners though.  I don't know coding, but perhaps can you modify the client so you can only send and receive coins with a precision of 8 decimal places for now, but be sure the scraps in the last 10 decimal places simply remain locked up until a later date when it is feasible to switch back to 18 decimal places?

What's the price? on http://www.guogao.com/trade/VEL/
One VEL @ 0.053 Mil CNY?! is that right?

Seems so. Is there a tutorial for an english-only speaker to trade in there? As far as I remember that site has a lower limit for withdrawal of 1BTC. Am I right?
I don't know, what's the price?
Do you know?

Yeah, I am totally confused. If 1 VEL = .054 CYN then 1 VEL = .0088506 BTC. That can't be right, can it?

What is the proper conversion? What am I missing here?

Yeah, your math is a bit off.  1 VEL = .054 CYN, then 18.5 VEL = 1 CYN.  1 BTC = 4900 CYN = 90740 VEL so 1 VEL = 0.000011 BTC.  Coinedup still cheaper than guogao.

im thinking 1 xcp should at least get to the 3 - 4 mBTC range
Your want it to be or you think it will be? If latter, may I know your reason?

EDIT: it's a honest question. I really want to read some analysis with data. Smiley Something like how many new IPOs per month in Havelock, how many new bets in bitbet and how much XCP it needs if we have similar popularity.

It needs none of those things to go that high or higher.  All it needs is a whale who burned hundreds of BTC to corner the market and a trollbox screaming about the latest and greatest thing you must buy!!  Seriously, the market cap of most crytpo assets are inflated and manipulated.  Mark my words, the second there is an easy to use, bug free windows client and the burn period has ended, you will hear nothing but "XCP to the moon!!" for weeks in the trollbox, wouldn't surprise me if it hit .01 BTC

1: It's in active development. We're a testing community.
2: You didn't create a backup. That's your fault.

-salvagewallet -rescan -reindex don't work and I have no backups because I just made this wallet a week ago after my last one kept corrupting.  no wonder GRC can't get on an exchange, I wouldn't want to deal with the constant bullshit of this client if I ran an exchange.

I see no warning on the front page saying "Warning: this is alpha software and expect things to break constantly".  If I am not told otherwise, I just kinda expect a client to have basic functionality like not disappearing my coins into the ether.

I at least should know better to keep a backup, especially since this shit just happened a week ago.  But if you are trying to grow your community, you are gonna put off a lot of new miners who don't know better when this shit happens to them.

Do -salvagewallet and you should be fine. Always worked for me.

Unbelievable, I hate this fucking piece of shit coin so fucking much, if it wasn't so profitable I wouldn't touch this buggy bullshit.  Well it is profitable when the wallet doesn't corrupt AGAIN and 15K GRC disappear into thin air.  Fuck GRC, fuck GRC, fuck GRC.

Not working, this coin is fucked.

So if I want to burn more than 1 BTC, it is ok to use the same wallet, just as long as I am making a new adderess for each BTC, correct?

I could be wrong normally & usually I am

what was understood was that you could

Burn NO more than 1BTC (0.99990000) per address.

the other part that needs answering is the Importance
of why it's not wise to burning More than 1BTC??

You can burn up to 1 BTC (that is, send 1.0001 BTC to your burn wallet to get 1 BTC + 0.0001 miner's fee)
Burning more than 1 BTC from the same address will not give you more XCP than burning just 1 BTC.

2nd burn MUST Be from a new wallet, new address only
1 BTC per address

Hold on, PhantomPhreak can you please clarify this?  Do we need to make a new wallet for every burn, or can we simply make a new address within the same wallet?

Well, I lost 82k coins transferring between wallet updates, probably got stuck on a fork somewhere, now I am waiting for the blockchain to download on 1.3.0 and it is going so painfully slow diff will be through the roof by the time it catches up.

on block 7000+ and rewards are still 1000 a block, may wanna patch that

I'm sorry for my ignorance.. The reason it told me was because it was over 51.. (I stopped mining because I don't like helping a 51% attack )

3% fee is to much, just flee to another until they decrease it again.
\
hop onto http://noblecoin.cryptotycoons.com/ soon and get 0% for life!

I'm pushing so hard to get users to prevent a 51% attack, we have to break up that giant pool =0

No one has cared about pools getting over 51% on these new alts in forever now, why in the hell would someone 51% a coin they can't spend or sell anywhere?

Start gridcoin with a -salvagewallet command, using the backup wallet.

Ok, I used the backup wallet I had made from a few days ago, it syncs up to block 40319 then I get "system error:CDB():can't open database file wallet.dat, error -30974" and then it crashes and I get "A fatal error has occured.  Gridcoin can no longer continue safely and will quit.
EXCEPTION: St13 runtime_error
CDB():can't open database file wallet.dat, error -30974
c:\Program Files (x86)\Gridcoin\gridcoin-qt.exe in Runaway exception"

I was doing a resync and an update a few days back and got these same error messages.  I then restarted the client and they went away so I wrote it off as a fluke.  I think a fresh install and new wallet would be in order, I would love to recover those 6K though.

Qt just freezes and shuts down
