681  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Gridcoin (GRC) - first coin utilizing BOINC - Official Thread on: January 08, 2014, 03:20:15 PM
Do you have any backups of your wallet files? I backup once per month.

I had the same thing happen to me once, when I used my backup everything re synched and was back to normal.

Btw what is your hasing speed? over the last 36-48 hours.

I fall out of sync 1-2 times a day, that 6K was mined over the last 36-48 hrs or so, I was periodically checking the block explorer and rebuilding the block chain as needed, so I know I wasn't forked for 2 days or something.

Hashing speed was around 2400Khs.  I do have a backup from a few days ago.  This is something I SHOULD know by now, but I have never dealt with it before, is it okay to use a wallet backup from before I mined those blocks?
682  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Gridcoin (GRC) - first coin utilizing BOINC - Official Thread on: January 08, 2014, 03:18:12 PM
WTF?!?!?  I fell out of sync with the block chain so I started rebuilding it, and now all of a sudden the ~6K GRC I had in that wallet is gone.  I did a -reindex and it didn't help.  I went to my roaming/appdata directory to see if my wallet was missing or something and now I have a wallet.(longstringofnumbers).bak file and a wallet.dat file.  What is that .bak file?  Never seen that before.

.bak is a backup file, the long string of numbers is an epoch (unix) timestamp.

Likely your old wallet was corrupted and a new wallet.dat was created and your corrupted wallet was moved to a .bak file.

It sounds like you hit a hard fork of the blockchain (likely you lost connection to the internet and you have more than wallet so you you were mining on your own personal network) then when you regained internet connection the wallet realized it was out of sync with the main blockchain.

There should be a way to restore your old wallet from the .bak file but I don't have any personal experience with this so i can't give you the details, but even if you restore the wallet I wouldn't count on your coins being there because it really sounds like you hit a hard fork.

Yeah, but I shutdown gridcoin and rebuilt the block chain multiple times over the past few days.  Was I continually mining on a forked chain for days?  And like I said I was checking the block explorer to be sure I was synced.  If that is the case I can't be the only one who found themselves on the forked chain, and apparently the block explorer was following it on and off as well.

And why is the .bak file all of a sudden 960kb, about the size my wallet.dat used to be, and now my wallet.dat is 80kb?

Sooooo........everyone is ignoring the fact that this coin will be fully mined by Feb?  No dev around to address this?  Welp, into the trash heap of shitcoins it goes.
687  Other / Archival / Re: [ANN][NOR] Chuck Norris Coin +Launch January 14+ We're looking for legal action on: January 07, 2014, 07:43:50 PM
No no no no no no no no no and no.  Why did Chuck Norris jokes infest the troll box all of a sudden?  Chuck Norris is a crazy evangelist D-list actor, he isn't cool, and jokes about him were played out 6 months ago.  Stop, find a new meme, even reddit has tired of Chuck Norris jokes.

Just a few minutes ago I calculated when all coins will have been mined. It will be end of February. What then? With no miners all particles will be stuck in our wallets awaiting confirmations that will never happen?

Bump, I want an answer from the dev on this.  If the the last block reward is 1563 coins, the max amount of 1,000,000,000 coins will be hit by next month.  What then?  I was thinking about buying some particles before it hit an exchange but this seems to be a pretty glaring issue.

i just read they are relaunching the coin
does this mean we are just wasting our time mining
are we going to lose all the coins

http://www.reddit.com/r/sCoin/comments/1ud2e4/scoins_goals/

He posted that 2 days ago, I assume that means today was the re-launch, not that I remember the original launch.

Bitcoind isn't actually capable of showing the BTC balance of an arbitrary address, so, for the time being at least, neither is counterpartyd.
oooh... You're right.
Code:
bitcoind getbalance pubkey
This always show zero
Cannot find a trick with auto-labelling? (lost the command to set label) then using:
Code:
bitcoind listaccounts mybeautifullabel
Should show the balance.
Such basic feature missing -__- After 5 years!

edit: Oh! counterparty wallet show BTC&XCP. No problem. Just address doesn't show BTC.

More important:
Does counterpartyd has a command to show the total number of XCP?
(or list all burning proof and show total XCP, neat way)

Another thing as you're around:
Can you differentiate burning transaction from the soft and from blockchain.info?
Doubt it.

I'm still wondering about this early adopter additional reward. 'seem I'm not the only one thinking about it.
What do you think about it?
You could create an awesome asset, the very first.
Ideally with long term dividend on a betting system, or whatever.

Burning is between block 278310 & 283810. That's 5500 block time.
Could split in 5:
up block 279410 = First 20% time get 50.0% of 1stAsset
up block 280510 = First 40% time get 25.0% of 1stAsset
up block 281610 = First 60% time get 12.5% of 1st Asset
up block 282710 = Last 40% time get nothing
up block 283810 = Last 20% time get nothing
And you keep 9.375% to give as such or resell(XBT) in 2~3 month for bounties for the development of the project.
Feel free to keep a part for yourself 2dev. I'm sure no investor will be against.

Other % possible.
50% - 20% - 10% - nothing - nothing - 20%dev&bounties.
66% - 33% - nothing - nothing - nothing.

I'd like to underline, in plus of the highest risk of burning in the first week;
Our money is blocked for a whole month.
As v0.9 is need for everything. Can't trade it back before, even in case of sudden money need.

Yes, fantastic idea, let's take the only new "2nd gen crypto" that has some respectability to it and make it just a little bit scammy by altering the reward structure after the fact.  I have no problem with a dev keeping coins for himself for their hard work, but he laid down the reward system in the first post, changing it now is not kosher.  What in the fuck is wrong with you people?  We have a dev who seems passionate about creating something new, he isn't trying to take your BTC from your wallet, and has set up reward parameters that don't punish late adopters too harshly.  It is basically the fairest and most honest project I have seen in months.  So let's all try to put a stain on it because you need "muh early adopter bonus".  I remember the days where if someone launched an alt with front loaded block rewards, it was automatically labelled scam and looked at with derision.  Now it's just par for the course.  The dev said in his first post that this was alpha software and it was possible to lose your BTC if something breaks.  Everyone was warned, you can wait if you think it is too risky.

PhantomPhreak, don't listen to these greedy assholes.  They just want their early adopter bonus so they can shit the coins all over the order books as soon as it pumps.  Keep doing what you are doing, you have my respect.
692  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I'm dumping Nxt and here's why you should too on: January 06, 2014, 10:11:05 AM
I dumped mine, not because I was mad at those mean greedy 'ole early adopters who risked BTC when no when else would and now have the gall to not just hand their coins out (sarcasm in case you couldn't tell) but because the source code was finally released and word is it is a mess.
693  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CACH] CACHeCoin released on: January 05, 2014, 09:33:32 PM
It is scrypt jane so don't hide the gpu miner from newbies who don't know any better while you use it, fucking scam.
694  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: January 05, 2014, 08:16:49 PM
Is this another error with the blockchain.info burning instructions?  In step 4 it says "Under “Change Address”, you should choose the same address as your “To” address" but the pic is showing the "from" address as the change address.  Just to clarify, I am referring to step 4, not step 6 as the post earlier was referring to.
695  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LDC] Leadcoin LAUNCHED! on: January 05, 2014, 07:18:29 PM
Will someone else please start mining this and raise the difficulty already?  I don't want anymore of these coins, but I'm getting so many blocks, I just can't stop, someone save me!!
696  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: QQcoin, what do you think? on: January 05, 2014, 12:05:56 AM
Yeah, most have not heard of it, same with applecoin.... that's a good thing. Applecoin was awesome to me and continues to be so Smiley

Yes i don't get it.
Ppl are complaining about all the clones and then when something new arrives (qqcoin and velocitycoin with jane-scrypt) nobody cares

Doge and Earthcoin brought some real new innovation. One used a joke as driver (Catcoin, Mooncoin, CoineWestcoin, etc. followed) and Earthcoin used good marketing skills (not so easy to copy). The Jane-Script is not really new. Copperlark used it, too (release june). And to be honest: To that point where you can mine a coin only with specialized equipment, the coin is grown up.

Never the less. I have QQCoins and think they will rise in price. And I think I am the only person which points out disadvantages and holding them^^

Copperlark is not scrypt-jane, it is SHA-512.  If your definition of innovation is DOGE and EAC, you are easily impressed.
697  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] microCoin MRC - Scrypt-Jane - nFactor - Relaunch January 10th on: January 04, 2014, 11:05:52 PM
Good to see a dev own up to a mistake and actually commit to a fair launch unlike many of the other "fair" launches we have had lately (looking at you MOON!).  I will definitely be present for the relaunch on the 10th!

Sweet, one of the most infamous scam coins of all time hit a milestone!  Let me check if that makes PHX any less shit.   UMMMMMM..........NOPE!  Just as shit as it always was!

Very interested, after the success of NXT, this is the only 2nd gen crypto that doesn't scream scam to me.  But yeah, please come up with a simplified (ie. idiot proof) way to invest because I am scared I am going to screw something up and lose my BTC.

I just called my finance and called off our wedding.  I told her I wasn't sure if I loved her because I can't be sure of anything anymore.  You have left me a soulless broken husk of a man OP.  Just please tell me you won't do it, not DOGE, just no, this can't be real, it just can't.............
