Nice buying opportunity at cryptsy.

Bought an extra 100 at .000985  Cheesy

Yeah, just saw that huge dump!  Had an order in at .00106 ish that got filled.

Ok, I really wanted to get up to be a member of the exclusive 10k club but I gotta stop buying at around 6k CGB.  Time to withdraw them to stake for the next year!  Assuming this CGB will have appreciated greatly by then.

603  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DUCK]DuckDuckCoin - Kimoto Gravity Well - Genesis Egg Recovered! on: February 12, 2014, 08:03:16 PM
FINALLY!!!!  If there is one group who has been clamoring, screaming, and down right begging to have there own crypto-currency, it has got to be the outdoorsy types who enjoy camping, hiking, bird watching, and hunting.  Ya know, the type of person who doesn't even know a GPU from an ASIC.  The type of person who hears the term "hash function" and thinks it must have something to do with breakfast.  I LITERALLY cannot think of a group better suited for their own crypto!!!!!

OMG!!!  I missed the IPO!!!!  God damn it, I need to mine this like some fucking pleb!?!?!?!?

If I had a time machine and could only use it once, I wouldn't go back to kill Hitler or stop 9/11, oh no.  I would go back in time to buy into this IPO.  It was only the chance of a lifetime!!!!

Well, I may as well make the best of it and start mining.  My balls are literally swelling with excitement!!!!

604  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Melange [SPICE] - The Spice Must Flow! on: February 12, 2014, 07:35:55 PM
Spice finally got a pool.  I was wondering why the difficulty was going up and had to check this thread.  Been mining it on and off since release but it seems the days of easy SPICE are ending.

Hopefully this starts drawing attention to the coin at least.  People are dumping it on the sci-fi exchange for crazy cheap considering its rarity.
605  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | CPU only | NO PREMINE on: February 05, 2014, 11:26:59 PM
So is their an ETA from the dev on when coinjoin will actually be implemented into the wallet and it goes anonymous?  I am interested and thinking about investing in DRK, but until the anonymity tech is implemented, it is just another shit coin.  I've heard promises of an anonymous coin before (SBC, zerocoin implementation in MEC, ANC, NVC), but so far no one has delivered.  I don't wanna get stuck holding a bag of worthless coin and false promises.

well, this week we are going to test it in testnet mode, so we are actually moving along...

and this is not "just another scrypt copy" at least different hashing algo's have been used...

I mean no disrespect, I am just being wary after hearing promises from like this before.

The 11 different hashing algo's is great and all, but I (and the rest of the world) will be buying this because of the anonymity, not because of the algo.

I will be watching closely, good luck.

these pools kinda suck, both the hash-rapid pools aren't showing new coins show up in my account, are they paying out?  And the top.dogemoon pools seems to be taking forever to find blocks for some reason.

609  Other / Archival / Re: Counterparty (XCP) Buy/Sell Thread with Google Doc on: February 04, 2014, 10:00:30 AM
I assume if as many bugs as possible are worked out in the next couple weeks and the GUI launches successfully, a centralized exchange wouldn't be too necessary.  What better way to advertise XCP than having people purchase it on the world's first decentralized exchange?  Still, I agree that many people are wary of anything new and until the software is smooth as butter, a centralized exchange wouldn't be a terrible idea.  NXT would have never pumped as high as it did in the early days without dgex.com, not with that buggy ass client.  Even if the devs bust ass and do everything they can to make the GUI launch as smooth as possible, they are human, and finding all the bugs in just a few weeks isn't possible.  If the software is even 10% as buggy as NXT's was, some investors will be deterred.

I don't know if I like the part that says "already 95% mined (rare)".  Although it has been released for many months, and miners have had ample opportunity to mine it, that fact can get twisted and turned into a horde screaming "SCAM!! SCAM!!" really fast.

Quote
God damn I don't know, it's like unless you make sure to personally notify every miner in the world of your coin's release and be sure they are mining from block 1, it'll be called a scam.  Oh yeah, and be sure to make the first block halving 5 years down the road so that the guy who builds his mining rig next year can get some too, because 50% inflation rate (from coins that are billed as deflationary) makes for stable currency.

sixteendigits You are absolutely correct to point this out! I posted the image to Reddit CryptoMarkets http://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/1wvaqi/trying_to_raise_awareness_about_this_hidden_gem/ and your concern was the FIRST response I got! To quote the respondant:

Quote
Can you explain why "already mined 95%" is a good thing? Sounds mega dodgy to me.

Here was my response:

Quote
Will you say the same thing when every other crypto is at 95% complete mining? At some point you just start using the currency and largely forget mining. This is true for all others. CGB had an accelerated mining period, it was well and fairly advertised and mined by a large community.

What it means is that you don't have to fight inflation. Its a good place to park cash and sit on interest. Doge for example requires a million USD PER DAY injected into it to maintain its price against miners dumping coins on the market. CGB is less than $1000.

Soon we will see a large flight from fiat into hard assets and digital currencies. Investors with lots of cash will not just throw their money into anything, they are trained to discern between wise and poor investments. They will chose a second gen (progressive) crypto with low inflation so that miners are not free loading on their capital. I am not trying to convince miners to mine CGB here. I'm talking hot money and discerning investors.

This is an opportunity to inform! One aspect that excites me about CGB is that it truly is a hidden and undervalued gem. This is what intelligent people look for and I will put myself out there to argue against every last poorly thought out response from the yet-to-be-converted. It is a great opportunity to shed light on the frustrations of the inflationary nature of rapidly expanding coins and win over their user base.

Quote
Perhaps rather use something along the lines of:
"RARE - Only 1 million + 2% annual inflation"

There is no winning. When you say that its rare because there are only 1 million, that's intellectually irrelevant as it can be divided down to 8 decimal places. The actual supply is realized to be little more than aesthetics when you compare to other cryptos. Real investors know this. Market cap is much more important and what the number in your wallet looks like is almost irrelevant. When they pick up on the 95% thing its an opportunity to explain that the INFLATION PERIOD IS DONE!!  Cool Hop on board.

I wonder if 95% Mined (low inflation) might be an acceptable message. I really want to get it across that you wont have miners "freeloading" off of your capital. We need to target the people with the cash not the miners!

I do very much welcome the criticism! Thanks!

I don't know if I like the part that says "already 95% mined (rare)".  Although it has been released for many months, and miners have had ample opportunity to mine it, that fact can get twisted and turned into a horde screaming "SCAM!! SCAM!!" really fast.

I'd put something on there alluding to the low amount of inflation through continual PoW and PoS.  Like something to allude to the fact that it is stable and usable as actual currency because of that.  Implies that it is mostly mined already without screaming it.

Then again, inflation is a bit of a dirty word to the crypto world as well.

I hate miners sometimes and feel dirty being one of them.

Anyway, I'm started to slip off topic.  I don't know, fuck it, picture is fine!

Good point (and counterpoint Tongue)

Perhaps rather use something along the lines of:
"RARE - Only 1 million + 2% annual inflation"

And perhaps remove the 1.5% from the interest bearing line so as not to throw too many percentages out there.

I like elambert's ideas, less numbers and doesn't scream that it is mostly mined.

papersheepdog, I do agree with you though that investor's (people actually putting money into crypto) is who needs to be targeted.  At a certain point, we miners need to grow up and realize investors don't give a shit if a coin is fair.  If a coin is well designed, secure, and easy for average joe to use, an investor doesn't give a damn if it was all insta-mined in one block by the dev and held solely by him.

We need to realize that computer geniuses don't necessarily have the economics knowledge to design a working currency and maybe the world can't wait decades for a coin to have a reasonable rate of inflation.  Take QRK for example, now I don't like QRK for a few reasons (not gonna turn this into a QRK thread) but I thought it's distribution model was genius.  I'd say 6-12 months of mining + 1-2% inflation seems about what coins should shoot for these days.  Well, we have that distribution model in CGB but with PoS security!

But yeah, I am starting to preach to the choir here.

Mastercoin went up to 3X pre-sale price in BTC first week after end of sale, settled down to 2X, then worked its way up to a peak of 25X over the next 6 weeks.

Well if we are going by that model, sellers that can't wait should be selling at more like 0.003 BTC.

Counterparty sounds interesting.  Do I understand correctly that all I need to buy it is a bitcoin wallet with which I have control of the private key?  I use Multibit.  Would this work?  If so, I'd like to buy 0.1 BTC worth at 0.003 BTC if anyone is willing.

Oh no, now buyers are gonna start posting offers at 0.003 BTC and I will forever be known as the guy who tanked the price on day 1?

But to answer your question, yes, I believe as long as you have the private key any BTC wallet will work.  Now to actually use the XCP, I believe you need the standard bitcoin-qt + counterpartyd software.

I'd buy 1BTC's worth at 0.003, pm me if you can offer such a price......I was gutted finding out about this project literally 10 minutes after the final burn had finished! Had i found out about Counterparty a day earlier i would have burned a few BTC's of my own, but due to a ridiculous work schedule I haven't frequented this forum much since Dec 2012.

Sorry man, like I said, I'm not selling.  I am thinking a bit more long term on this one.

The guy selling WEED on the Dex gave me a marketing idea.

Of course you can sell weed on XCP! A Decentralized Silk Road is just a sub-feature of XCP. All you need is a guy with enough trust to issue an asset corresponding to say 1 oz of his product.

The forum would have to exist elsewhere, but transactions could be conducted entirely through XCP. The authorities could shut down the forum, but again there would be no money exchanged there. They sure as hell can't shut down XCP.

Silk Road made up something like 50% of Bitcoin transaction volume at one point.

Technology to support a decentralized virtual black market is live today. We live in the future.

Holy shit, you are right.  I guess I didn't stretch my imagination enough and thought of it more as a protocol merely for exchange of financial assets and virtual goods, but really this can be an exchange for ANYTHING.

I knew I was gonna regret not burning more BTC, this is gonna be huge.
616  Other / Archival / Re: Counterparty (XCP) Buy/Sell Thread with Google Doc on: February 03, 2014, 04:56:03 PM
Are potential buyers discriminating against me because my name is Bitye West?

I haven't had one message or inquiry about my 800 XCP for 8 btc offer.

I have a total of 6856.81 XCP.  I'm just looking to sell enough to cover my initial investment of 6 btc.

Well sell some cheaper then!

Do I believe XCP is worth .01 or even higher?  Hell yes I do, which is why I am not selling any of my stash for the time being.

The reason there aren't buyers fighting to buy XCP at .01 BTC is because the burn period ended a mere 24 hours ago and went on for over a month.  Everyone who wanted to invest in XCP already did.  Your potential market is literally people who just heard about XCP in the last 24 hours.

If you want 10x+ back on your investment, wait for XCP to prove it's functionality and word to spread.  If you absolutely need to get back your BTC now, settle for less.

Meh i'm so bad at this stuff, is the client only visible in the cmd? Or should there be an interface popping up?

There will be in 2 weeks a GUI client released

Ah ok, is there any way for me (as someone who was too late for the IPO to get some XCP now)?

Is anyone else confused about this address - http://www.blockscan.com/address.aspx?q=1FCkCQCnEtHQ3j7NqdkAnkqQUvqfti4XoA? I fail to see the transactions required to achieve it's balance.

Edit: I can understand this a bit more after checking this transaction on Blockchain.info - https://blockchain.info/tx/e4c7f4aa3bc124a108227acf510615b2d63a5d73fe6466de5e7aec9ce26760eb. I still don't see how the XCP have been successfully credited to the above address.

Oh wait, I see what you are saying now.  Brain is fried.  Yeah, I don't get it either.

Sure there is a simple explanation, but I haven't touched the software yet so I have no clue how it all works.

I think dude must be updating blockscan.com or something?  It isn't showing the most recent burns either, so assuming info on the site is inaccurate at the moment.

I nearly never touch cryptsy anymore, absolutely never keep a large amount of BTC in my account there.  So tonight, I wanted to buy a fairly large amount (to me anyway) of various alts.  I transferred a total of 4.8ish BTC to cryptsy, as soon as they confirmed, I was logged out and my BTC is gone!  Always, always, always, cryptsy needs to fuck me over when there are critical market movements.  GIVE ME MY 4.8 BTC FUCKING NOW AND NOT AFTER 3 DAYS WHEN YOU FUCKS DECIDE TO ANSWER MY TICKET!!!
