661  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Users Should Use Linux Not Windows on: September 08, 2017, 12:07:59 AM
Why Linux or Windows?

Mac is a perfectly good option.

663  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What type of wallet do you use? on: September 07, 2017, 10:11:06 PM
Electrum is a good wallet.  It provides cold-storage and it is light.  It's open source and it has been around for several years.

I'm not convinced that a rogue employee at the manufacturer of a hardware wallet cannot put in nefarious code into the firmware.
664  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What are the 3 thing you look for in an ICO? on: September 07, 2017, 09:52:04 PM
What about established products? Do you care if the project is already working or it's just a roadmap in a whitepaper?

Yes, it is definitely MUCH BETTER if the project already has some working software.  That is even better than having code in Github.

Very few ICOs have working software.  Most of them have simply put together a nice looking website.
665  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Canadian bitcoin trust fund just got approved in canada on: September 07, 2017, 09:21:07 PM
This is great news, especially after ETF has been rejected. Canada is showing the world that it can be done.
The only question I'd have is: How is investing in that trust different from investing on your own? Since trust profits are based on the price of Bitcoin, the risk of buying their shares and buying Bitcoin is the same.

If you can buy the coin, it's better because you'll avoid the fees of the trust.

For many, it's a hassle to open an account with an exchange, go through KYC/AML again, set up a wallet or cold-storage.

With a trust, they can quickly trade it from their stock trading account.
666  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many people are asking you about Bitcoin now? on: September 07, 2017, 09:17:58 PM
I have both kinds of friends:  Those who are very bullish believers and those who will never buy it.  The latter thinks that the U.S. government is going to stamp it out or the NSA is going to hack it.
667  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Congress plans to regulate cryptocurrencies on: September 07, 2017, 08:59:00 PM
Can you copy and paste the quote from your link to the Congress site?

I glanced through it and I don't see where it says that.
668  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What are the 3 thing you look for in an ICO? on: September 07, 2017, 08:47:56 PM
People are trying to put anything and everything on a blockchain, including the kitchen sink.

Many times, they don't make sense or they're trying to squeeze a square block into a round hole.

669  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can i participate in the ICO without creating an Etherium address? on: September 07, 2017, 08:42:42 PM
Yes, there are still ICOs that accept non-Ether.  But if the ICO is selling ERC-20 (Ethereum-based) tokens, then you'll need an Ethereum address anyway.

Avoid token sales like ours.  We will be accepting only Ethers.

670  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Canadian bitcoin trust fund just got approved in canada on: September 07, 2017, 08:28:30 PM
Good to see that bitcoin is growing in popularity in Canada.  We are based in Canada.
671  Economy / Speculation / Re: Where do you see bitcoin 5 years from now? on: September 07, 2017, 08:26:22 PM
It depends on if Bitcoin solves its scalability issue.  If it does, it will rally much higher.  If not, it can potentially be taken over by another coin.
672  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency discussion on: September 07, 2017, 03:29:48 PM
If EOS can come through with what they claim, then it will be one of the most valuable coins.

However, their claim is lofty and they did not explain how they will be able to pull it off.
673  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is it too late to buy bitcoin? on: September 07, 2017, 03:27:52 PM
Should have bought more before August 1st.

"Should have" are the two most commonly used words by investors.
674  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Portugal Joins Spain, France in Cash Crackdown on: September 07, 2017, 02:54:54 PM
As governments' spending continue to go up, their debts will continue to go up.

As governments' debts continue to go up, their taxes will continue to go up.

As governments' taxes continue to go up, cash payments will continue to go up.

As cash payments continue to go up, government crackdown will continue to go up.

As government crackdown continue to go up, crypto buyers will continue to go up.
675  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many people left their full-time employment to go into Bitcoin? on: September 07, 2017, 02:49:31 PM
We have, sort of.  Not into Bitcoin, but into our own currency.
676  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The time is WWIII, what are our Bitcoin Doomsday Preppers doing? on: September 07, 2017, 02:46:45 PM
Gold usually goes up in a crisis.

Bitcoin is mainly a store of value and competes against gold.  So it will likely go up in a crisis.
677  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it technically possible to ban Bitcoin in a particular country? on: September 07, 2017, 02:44:29 PM
Passing a law to ban something is very different than enforcing the law.

Speeding on the highway is banned.  Government enforces this among 1% of the drivers or less.
678  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin Really A Currency or An Asset? on: September 07, 2017, 02:41:36 PM
Bitcoin isn't much of a currency (yet), because very few people use it to buy stuff.

It's mainly a store of value and competes mainly against gold.
679  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin or other coins on: September 07, 2017, 02:39:01 PM
Among all of the cryptos, Bitcoin is the most secure because it has the biggest network and the most number of nodes securing the transactions.  After 8 years, it has been attacked the most and survived.

Other than that, most other cryptos are superior to Bitcoin in other aspects.
680  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to explain bitcoin to teenagers or children on: September 07, 2017, 02:36:00 PM
With many teenagers, it shouldn't be hard to explain.

Many of them already play games that have virtual goods or native digital currencies.  Think of Zynga's Poker, which is played by tens of millions of people on Facebook.  It has a currency used only by that poker game, but only by players in the game.  Tell the teenager that the main difference is that Bitcoin can be used outside of any game and by anyone.
