661  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: I inherited miners. Looking for my best option. on: March 31, 2017, 01:02:24 AM
There aren't a lot of good SHA256 altcoins to be mining with ASICs.  I would just put them to work on Bitcoin, you won't actually earn very much but it'll be easy and consistent.

Without electricity costs though Bitcoin mining is an amazing investment though so you should go all in and get an S9 or something.  You'd probably get ROI before the warranty even wears off.
662  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Oh shit, it's a draw - Blockstream wins on: March 31, 2017, 12:51:31 AM
I agree, I don't support BU but we need to ignore non-voters because Bitcoin really needs to move forward and in elections you don't just not vote expecting for the old candidate to stay in forever.
663  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When I talk to NON-BitcoinTalkers they don't know.. on: March 31, 2017, 12:49:05 AM
(ps. Just sent some mBTC.. they received it instantly on their phone (as always - just not confirmed).. an hour later I had 3 confirms.. Mempool down to 2MB.. meh.. all systems seem to be back to normal.. really not sure what all the fuss is about.. hehe)
Yes mempool is almost empty these days, i think spam attack on bitcoin network from BU supporters have stopped lately because they failed to deliver bug free software. After few more weeks we may again see similar congestion on mempool to create hypothetical panic so that people start to believe 1mb block is not enough for bitcoin.  Grin

check the dates of the mempool attack.
june/july 2016.
then it settled down
then increased in october ongoing until recently
https://blockchain.info/charts/mempool-size?timespan=1year

this was a core orchestrated attack to try swaying peoples belief that core features are desperately needed.
CSV in june/july.. segwit in the autumn

now core are planning a mandatory activation(UASF) they dont need to sway people over any more

meanwhile other implementations like BU have been running for years. no deadlines, no threats. no mandatory activations. no mining PoW nukes
It's not like BU would do a mandatory activation when they're not even the development team and they need to manipulate people into supporting them before the new coin would actually be successful.
664  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Best way to buy BTC with Paypal? on: March 31, 2017, 12:33:50 AM
PayPal will always be inconvenient to buy Bitcoin with.  It's too easily reversible and everyone will assume you are a scammer or make you verify your identity unless you pay giant fees on your purchase.
665  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitcoin Bitpay Debit Card? on: March 31, 2017, 12:31:55 AM
Bitcoin debit cards are a good idea and Bitpay is a pretty reliable service but just remember (because I got confused) that you have to convert the Bitcoin into fiat on your card before you can spend it - it doesn't just do it automatically whenever you pay.
666  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: NEW TRADING PLATFORM LAUNCHED SISTER OF LOCALBITCOINS on: March 31, 2017, 12:29:39 AM
Sounds like a pretty pointless service when LocalBitcoins is much more established and works very well on its own.  No point in having loads of different sites which do the same thing when you need the convenience of having the most people near you as possible by searching one site.
667  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Taxation on the alts on: March 31, 2017, 12:26:55 AM
Because of just how many new altcoins and slight variations that they make it's very hard for governments to make people declare their earnings in altcoins if they trade them directly to fiat.  Generally though I would trade back into Bitcoin and then that into fiat as it's more convenient and you can (usually, remembering Mt. Gox) trust that your Bitcoin is pretty safe being only briefly held in the exchanges.
668  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Do You Equate MLM-Distributed Coins To Be Scams? on: March 31, 2017, 12:24:08 AM
Even if MLM systems help to spread information about the coin, they're still bad for people in general because naturally these schemes make most people fail as they are based around Ponzis.
669  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is it still worth it to trade? on: March 31, 2017, 12:22:01 AM
With the crazy swings right now it's more practical to trade than ever if you're willing to work on improving your skills and spend a lot of time doing it as Bitcoin is famed for its volatility.  If you're dedicated and have nerves of steel volatility can be great for day trading.
670  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is decentralised, so who defends it from hackers? on: March 31, 2017, 12:19:05 AM
Bitcoin as a network is safe.  Individually, it's about giving responsibility to a variety of third parties for simplicity if you want it and also for yourself.  Responsibilities such as upholding a ledger are given to lightweight wallets like Electrum but the responsibility is still on you to keep your computer safe from viruses and keep your private keys safe.  So the responsibility is contained with the private sector and the individual.
671  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Experiences in Mining on: March 30, 2017, 10:50:44 PM
Hello and Good Day,

Bitcoin and other  cyptocurrenies no doubt  is not new to anyone  now.
What is surprising  and exciting  is the means which people to get them.
I am a novice but with determination to raise " a stack" of it.
I hope my experiences help others  in the same way.
Everyone is invited to add his/her own ideas.
NO SCAMS
NO PONZI SCHEMES

USE THE REFERRALS
LET'S  BE FRIENDS.

My first try was with apps- bitcoin aliens and faucets-moonbitcoins and moonlitecoins.
I made some  coins,  small but it is still coins,  you can even stack up coins to pay for cloud mining this way

Now I am up to cloud mining.
So far I have registered on some of them *those giving free Ghs* and waiting  to see results.
Let's hear yours

If they have referral systems, chances are they're Ponzi schemes.  I can't say I trust any cloud miners, maybe HashNest, HashFlare, ViaBTC and Genesis Mining but I'm always a tad skeptical even of these since they don't tend to be good investments if they're legit.
672  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: In 2017, Is a $400 ASIC miner still profitable? on: March 30, 2017, 10:47:58 PM
Usually no, but super cheap or free electricity might let you get away with it.  It might even be a bit profitable now but is unlikely to continue that way due to difficulty changes in the future.
673  Economy / Speculation / Re: for the first time ever, i'm hedging part of my long term position with altcoins on: March 30, 2017, 10:42:30 PM
That's what usdt is for. Anyone buying doge with the expectation of preserving their dollar value is a freaking maniac.

Doge is holding up splendidly in dollar terms...!
It's unlikely to in the long term though.  Doge has had a slight recovery since its huge dump, partially because of the general rise of altcoins, but it won't last.  Doge is dead anyway.
674  Economy / Speculation / Re: YORK's price prediction topic. on: March 30, 2017, 10:31:41 PM
Litecoin chart Bulltrap :

I don't think that a significant amount of people care about Litecoin anymore, but it'll keep steady and a stable store of value if you can't be bothered exchanging Bitcoin for fiat every time.

Bitcoin has never gone straight up like that though, it's just unrealistic.
675  Economy / Speculation / Re: China found huge gold mine. Price evolution? on: March 30, 2017, 10:28:56 PM
The gold market won't fall very dramatically as there is a lot of gold in circulation.  Some Chinese people already seem to have large enough stakes in Bitcoin hence their mining monopolies, but I don't think that Bitcoin will be seen as reliable enough for people interested in gold to put a lot of money into Bitcoin.
676  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why Does Anyone Think BTC Splitting into Two Will Make BU Go to the Moon? on: March 30, 2017, 10:23:03 PM
Merchants don't always have to have too deep an understanding of Bitcoin and they shouldn't have to partake in this.  I think that most will still use their old BTC for at least a while after a fork unless the BU price rises too much.
677  Economy / Speculation / Re: Your Bitcoin Assets on: March 30, 2017, 10:20:00 PM
If I had money, I'd have been buying when it was just over $900 as I didn't expect it to go lower.

Right now, I'm holding since I still expect Bitcoin to go up long term if these problems are sorted out.  If they're not in a few months, I might diversify.
678  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Japan to accept Bitcoin as payment method. on: March 30, 2017, 10:10:53 PM
While they are going to consider Bitcoin as a payment method, they even recognise it's asset-like qualities and seem to have a deeper understanding of Bitcoin.  It's very refreshing compared to, say, Indian politicians still thinking it might be a Ponzi scheme.
679  Other / Off-topic / Re: Best Anti Virus Now on: March 30, 2017, 10:12:26 AM
I use AVG mainly, pretty solid and doesn't slow down your computer but it might bug you to pay for a full version.  For scans when I'm skeptical I use Malwarebytes which is always pretty solid.
680  Other / Off-topic / Re: This scientist re-wires frogs to grow extra limbs. Could it work in humans? on: March 30, 2017, 10:08:16 AM
Frogs were seemingly just chosen to show that limb changes are possible, but it wouldn't work reasonably in humans.  Otherwise it would have happened in the past 17 years.
