Request for help...

I have 2 CM1s mining in Australia due to high elec costs...Over the last few weeks I have noticed that they only mine for between a few minutes to a few hours (8 tops). Having said this, the best I have done is 2 days str8 mining.

They just appear to drop of the USB line with a "boink" then cgminer reports they are "OFF". I have been using cgminer 2.7.0 > 2.8.4 on a Win 7 system with the same reuslts...could I please get some stability help. (whilling to sheel out BTC for help)
The base Icarus has no MHz control or temperature reading.
Thus if there is a heat issue, cgminer won't tell you about it

I've no idea how to ask a CM1 for the temperature, and if you send it to an Icarus, it will not work
- nor any idea what problem that would cause the Icarus.

Someone was gonna send me a CM1 a while back but they changed their mind.
So I don't have one.

Back when CM1s were first around I wrote the basic support of devices with varying speeds that work like an Icarus
(since I could test it on an Icarus also and get either the expected results or the expected failure)
- with options about expected clock speed and FPGA counts to ensure the hashing is correct and baud rate since early CM1 were 57600.

End of story Tongue

It is only spring here so hope the heat is not the issue....

I will try cycling back to a 200MHs stream though

Did you try using a (powered) usb hub?
No powered USB hub as the gigabyte MB has 3*power USB ports. I do have my eye on a nice Dr who powered hub though...will give it a try

Have you found this to be a good solution on ur rigs?

686  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Re-purposing of FPGA boards made for mining on: October 26, 2012, 02:10:54 AM
I suspect any of the FPGA boards could be adapted for IMEI cracking without any problems, that's a simple sha1 hash and would require even less communication bandwidth than Bitcoin mining.  Been thinking about adjusting an Icarus board to solve work for yambamoney.com at some point if it shows signs of becoming more profitable than mining, but the whole Windows-only client thing is such a pain that I was hoping for a similar site (preferably paying in BTC) with a better API to build off of.

will your "icarus" solution be portable to a Cairnsmore (CM1)?
687  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Cairnsmore1 - Quad XC6SLX150 Board on: October 22, 2012, 01:56:04 AM
is there any chance of getting a monthly summary of updates? e,g,

Oct
Bitsreams
Mokamk  ver 5  (300MHs)

CGMiner
CKolivas ver 3000.1.00001  (yeah updates are my thing)

etc...etc...

P.S. it is all good and I appreciate your work...plus back it up with sheckles now and then

Unfortunately I'm in France on travel for my day job. And I had hoped to have much development time, but unfortunately that hasn't panned out. I've been extremely busy with no time but for work/eat/sleep. Hell this is the first time I've been online in days... I don't even know what's going on as far as recent developments are concerned.

I'm returning to Canada on Thursday, and I'll do my best to dedicate some time to getting some significant bitstream progress made then.

Sorry for the delays everyone. I'm well aware that each day is ticking closer to ROI problems. I'm doing my best to make time. (I have a cluster running myself now, and I need to get ROI on them too, so I feel you pain).

Cheers Glasswalker...appreciate the efforts

Just upgrade3d from 2.7.x to 2.8.x

Can someone please provide a plain english explination of the "Diff" data in the HW mining lines? eg Diff: 100/25

Thanks in advance

ASICS for BTC...ppl should be aware bASIC is shipping in late Nov now ---- ahead of schedule. Some BTC?LTC miners on OZCOIN were discussing their pending arrivals just last night
690  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LTC & BTC on one machine on: October 21, 2012, 08:05:12 AM
mining BTC & LTC on single rig now...thnx

2 * 6770s for LTC
2 * CM1 FPGAs for BTC
691  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Consolidated Litecoin Mining Guide for 5xxx, 6xxx, and 7xxx GPUs on: October 20, 2012, 10:17:20 PM
bump....great guide
692  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LTC & BTC on one machine on: October 20, 2012, 11:52:36 AM
yes you can, I use BFGminer to mine BTC with my FPGAs and cgminer to mine litecoins with my GPU

just make sure when your using cgminer your config looks something like this

Quote
cgminer-2.8.4-win32\cgminer.exe --scrypt -o http://ltc.r00t3d.com:9327

--scrypt being the important part!

can i run cgminer for BTC and another instance for LTC? I dont have to have differnt miners...sounds kool...will start playing
693  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptografic currencys in future on: October 19, 2012, 10:50:50 PM
I think the extending confirmation time of BTC will eventually proove a stumbling block. I can envisage a time, say 5~10 years in the future, were blocks may take days to confirm. I think that this will drive BTC to be primarily high value transactions only as they will be very secure however people will not want to wait days for coonfirmations. This is were a faster currency, like LTC, can step in and fill the relatively rapid transaction space.
694  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptografic currencys in future on: October 19, 2012, 10:24:03 PM
Another way to think about bitcoin mining is that whatever you "invest" in mining is actually an investment in a startup company, lets call it the "bitcoin financial network" or BFN Corporation.  It is as if you invested in a startup company that runs a financial network based on the bitcoin concept.

When discussing my mining with a non-tech head friend lately, I stumbled across the analogy of BTC/LTC mining rigs simply being like a distributed main frame of a commercial bank. With the mining operations simply being the equivelent of processing the transactions. So as a processor, I get paid for how many transactions I can process for the banking mainframe.

My mate was very impressed with that answer and it made sense to him. Do others agree with this simplistic sales pitch?
695  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / LTC & BTC on one machine on: October 19, 2012, 10:19:07 PM
Can I run LTC or BTC on the one machine not simultaneously. I ask as my main miner has 2 FPGA attached but I want to dabble in an LTC set up to determine if I want to built an LTC only rig.

Will this corrupt eithers block chain or something strange?

that stuff is really expensive.....  Smiley

BFL & Icarus still avail?
698  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTS BFL SINGLE on: October 17, 2012, 09:17:01 PM
How about a 6770 + 8BTC....this includes shipping exchange e.g. we both ship goods and not charge each other
699  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Selling Icarus FPGA 380mh per second / 23 btc or reasonable offer on: October 17, 2012, 09:39:40 AM
3BTC incl the shipping per unit... ASICs are coming
700  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 4 BFL Singles on: October 17, 2012, 09:36:44 AM
I got them where you need them. 4 of them, working great.

Brand new power supplies, bonus ATX cablez.

Looking for $750 + maybe shipping depending on location.

The fan seems to rub up against the inside of the case sometimes and all I have to do is prop it up slightly in one direction and it goes away. If you're interested, post or shoot me a pm.
$750 for the lot...?
